We stopped by Gaskins randomly for dinner after a recommendation, and were lucky enough to get a spot immediately. Everything about it blew us away -- food was amazing. I can't remember exactly what we got, but the entrées were incredible! I would skip on the bone broth though. It was also the cutest restaurants and seemed perfect for a special occasion or date night. Our server was the loveliest human as well, and really made us feel comfortable and cared for throughout the experience. Highly recommend!

Came here for a birthday dinner of 6. I love how the menu changes seasonally and that they use local ingredients. I thought it was a cool concept. The halibut was absolutely amazing. Very fresh and well seasoned without needing a lot of salt. Definitely one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. The strawberry and blue cheese salad was good too, and I'm not usually a blue cheese fan. The desserts were good but not mindblowing, a bit overpriced. The staff gave us free ice cream as a surprise. Our server was very nice.

We were visiting Hudson Valley for the week, and heard good things about Gaskins, so we made a reservation and came here on a Thursday night. We booked a couple days before on Resy, and they only had a 5:15pm available. There is limited outdoor dining space. They have a good COVID distancing set up, with two tables for each party; one table is reserved slowly for setting down plates from the staff and leaving empty plates for them to pick up. We ordered two appetizers and two main dishes each. The appetizers came out at the same time. We shared the peach and tomato salad, and the crab cakes. The peach and tomato salad was refreshing and great to have on this hot day. The crab cakes were also made really well. My husband enjoyed his burger, and my charred broccolini was simple, but good. Would recommend this place for a great meal in Hudson Valley area.

Great experience here. The restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere and serves elevated, really well-executed comfort food. Basically everything you'd want from a neighborhood restaurant. Would highly recommend visiting for anyone visiting this part of the Hudson Valley. Everything was great but the Eggplant Agrodolce and the Bluefish were the standouts.

Overall, I enjoyed our experience. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. I do recommend the Burrata and Fried Corn as appetizers because it was delicious! Our server was very kind and the restaurant looks nice. In contrast, however, the dessert was not of the highest quality. We shared the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake and it was not good The cake was super dry and the rosemary frost was very strong. I'd love to visit again.

The cornbread, shishito peppers, and shrimp tacos

A delicious welcome. This place knows what good food is. I've never had such good corn bread: in fact I've never had cornbread that had ACTUAL corn in it. The shishito peppers and shrimp tacos were also phenomenal. For my main, I went with the curried beef and was not disappointed. When the waitress said the meat falls apart she meant it. The flavor was explosive and the rice was crispy. I can't figure out how they made zucchini taste so good! My mom had the scallops and my husband had the tuna; I got to try both and "perfect" is not enough to describe them. Lastly we shared the cobbler, and wow, what a grand finale. Can't wait to come back when covid is over so that we can see the inside which I have no doubt is spectacular.

The signage is funny, and bathroom is clean. They have a nice sized indoor/outdoor space, and host weekly events. I would definitely love to come back. There used to be numerous German restaurants in NYC and throughout upstate NY, but over the years those numbers have dwindled substantially to a handful.  A relatively new addition to the local Hudson Valley dining scene Jaeger Haus was started in 2018 (in a 70 year old restaurant building) and serves up seriously tasty and authentic tasting German beer, wine, and food.  We've dined there a few times over the last two years of visiting this year--the mood is relaxed, the beer is delicious, and food remind us of our travels to Germany and Austria.  The menu is tight and by that I mean it's focused on what they do well--which is traditional German food. While I wish they might add a few classic German appetizers to their menu for variety, their range of entrees provides ample choice and I am slowly making my way through those selections. Lola, one of our servers for the evening, quickly took our drink orders.  I ordered a mug of Hofbrau Original Lager (on tap) and after being given a tasting, my wife ordered a pint of Hofbrau Weissbier (which is similar to the sort of wheat beer she occasionally enjoys).  So refreshing.  A basket of house-made thinly sliced Roggenbrot (rye bread) arrived soon after our drinks with softened butter, lightly sprinkled with sea salt. We passed on the appetizers, knowing that our entrees would be substantial.  My wife ordered the Wienershcnitzel which comes with braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle lightly sauced with a cream gravy.  These are classic sides which one can find served in restaurants from Vienna or Munich to Heidelberg or Berlin.  I ordered exactly the same thing (having tried other dishes on our prior visits), except I ordered my Wienerschnitzel "a la Holstein" (with a fried local farm egg).  The egg, especially the large yolk, provides an added level of lusciousness to the crispy veal.   Our meals arrived in due course.  They were gorgeous to look at and ate even better than they looked.  The spaetzles were soft and fluffy, the red cabbage was rich and well spiced, and the veal . . . the veal was heavenly.  Crisp on the outside, fork tender on the inside, dipping into a bit of the egg yolk (in my case); goodness what a delightful taste sensation. Just delicious.  We both earned "clean plate" certificates tonight--suitable for framing--felt satiated, but not overly full (which is where we like to end a meal).  We nursed our beers a bit longer, sharing memories from this special day, paid our bill (the bill encouraged customers to tip in cash, which we did), thanked the staff, bid the co-owner "danke schön und Wiedersehen" and we were on our way.

Instead, I'll raise my glass and enjoy the casual pub atmosphere as well as the food and drink. Armed with some suggestions from well-researched friends, we enjoyed our pours here this evening. Prices feel more like we were drinking in Westchester County than Dutchess, but still okay. The information on their bourbons, scotches, and ryes, could be better, not just a brand name. If you enjoy burgers, you really can't go wrong here with any of the selections on the menu, accompanied by well-prepared and crisp fries. The burgers are cooked exactly to order, and these meals will come out quickly. The fries are perhaps a bit "Can we get you another drink?" salty. Service here is friendly and very casual, and you might get some tastings if you sit at the bar. They have stuff going on many evenings during the week. I'm sure they have reasons, but I'm very surprised at their cash-only policy. At least in my own circles, having plastic as a resource very often increases our likelihood of buying additional rounds of drinks. They do have an ATM in the back near the rest rooms. But in future visits, I'll be perfectly happy to exchange cash for my food and drink.
