We had a good experience at Gaucho Brazilian BBQ. From the moment we sat down, the service was pretty attentive and the atmosphere was welcoming. Ok is all this place is going to get. Reservations were easy to make and food came out as ordered. The meats were getting repetitive and the "good" meats never came around. The guys serving the meats kept saying shrimp was coming out but it never did. Do make sure to order 1/2 orders of salads to not get full off the food! Second year in a row we hit up Gaucho in Canmore on the way out to Lake Louise. Make sure you're hungry and try to pace yourself. It's not cheap but the various beef dishes are so good (the Picanha and Parmesan beef are stand outside) as is the pork loin, and the beef ribs. This can also be an oddly quick meal. We were in and out in a half hour because you don't have to order, the food just comes to your table. After a plane ride to Calgary, with another hour left to drive, it's nice to eat and run. read more

Absolutely delicious! I been coming here for a few years now. Every time I come to Canmore this is my lunch and dinner place to go. I absolutely love the food, the cheese bread. The either owner or manager is always so attentive and polite. I love everyone that works there always so kind and nice. Today I order a take out and the food was like having food at the restaurant. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!! My friends and I ate at Gaucho for a friend's bachelor party. We had high hopes for a great night of dining, but unfortunately, we experienced terrible service. We were skipped/overlooked numerous times for the meat even though we were seated right in front of the kitchen and in the middle of the restaurant. Our waiter only stopped by a few times and didn't give a very hospitable vibe. We were still forced to tip 20% for gratuity despite horrible service. We would've been so much better off going to a regular steakhouse. Regrets!! Also, one friend asked for a medium piece of picanha and received a super rare slice. Wow.. I'm not sure if i have ever had a more expensive, more disappointing meal... The first thing that should have given away how bad this experience was going to be was the literal buffet of salads and side dishes as you walk in... but somehow i overlooked that. The next most disappointing part of this meal is how they serve you. First, take a plate and go get salads to fill up on while you wait for meat to come around. Once the meat does start to come around - 15 minutes after you are seated - it comes out very slowly... so that each time you take a piece of meat you're then waiting and being forced to let your body start digesting... All of this, so it seems, so that they can serve you as little meat as possible and fill you up on it. If i am coming to an all you can eat meat shop... i want the meat handy and ready and not be forced to wait for "rounds" of serving. The only thing that was actually worth coming here for was the grilled pineapple. It's really good! But unfortunately not worth enduring the terrible salad bar, slow meat and crazy prices! read more

Delicious and worth every penny!! Yes it is pricey at $45 per person but you really do get what you pay for in this instance. There is a salad and hot sides bar which you can go to any time. Those were all super tasty. The meats come to you depending on whether or not you have your card on green or red. They have at least 10 different meat options ranging from chicken wings to parmesan steak and all in between. Sometimes it feels almost endless. Our waitress could've been a bit more attentive. The restaurant was not busy at all yet it took her 20 mins to check on us and to refill water which she only filled up halfway. It wasn't when we were done our meals that she gave us the entire jug to keep on our table. Kind of weird. The guys delivering the meat were super great though! Considering a lot of places in Canmore can run you up to $45 for just one plate, I'd say this is definitely a good one to spend on and food is unlimited. read more

My husband and I came here for Valentie's day this year. We had early reservations, 4pm, so it wasn't over crowded and didn't take a long time to see our guacho servers with the latest meat skewer. As the restaurant started to fill up though, we did miss out on a few key things we would have liked to try - like the shrimp and cheese. Aside from that, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the ambiance was nice and funky. The Valentine's menu included an appy, dessert, and glass of prosseco as well. The appy was kinda dry, so we just avoided eating it... But the dessert was cute and lovely. All the meat was deliscious too! We had been meaning to try this place for a long time, and glad we finally did. Come with a big appetite, and plan to stay for a long time. It's a really fun dining experience. read more

We didn't want so much meat and to spend $100. so we ordered a half skewer of prawns, Camara Assado, and they where delicious and perfectly cooked. Had the Mandioca, yucca wedges. My boyfriend and I are huge carnivores and love steak. We felt the need for a nice meaty meal after days of hiking and being outdoors. We were excited there was a brazilian steakhouse to try in canmore. The service is amazing hands down. The salad bar and warm food buffet style was mediocre. Best part was the potatoes covered in lots of cheese. The meats served to us were tough. my jaw kind of got achey from all the chewing. The best meat was the lamb. It had the best flavor. We were looking for some substance after our excruciating hike! I guess for the location you can't really ask for much but this place was overall OK. Their meats can be too salty and some of them are super dry. I understand it's hard to perfect everything as it's ultimately all you can eat with rounds of meat for everyone. Delicious!!!! Amazing service and amazing variety of food. The waitress was very helpful in explaining how the dining experience works, starting by explaining the green card that meant we were ready for meat to come to our table or flipping it over, meaning we needed a break. I swear every time I took a sip of water, it was instantly refilled. The men walking around with the meat are dressed in cultural clothing which add to the experience. You have two hours for all-you-can-eat which is more than enough time because you get full quickly with all the options. There were 11 different meats and a full salad bar including mashed potatoes, breads and copious amounts of salads - the kale salad, Greek, beets and the mushrooms were some of my favourites. Another delicious touch was the pineapple! It was grilled with cinnamon and tasted like dessert. I left unable to breathe from being so full but it was worth it! Not the best Gaucho restaurant. Salad bar is ok but is very small compared to other Brazilian Gaucho style eateries. The meat ls are good but very slow to come around. The lesser cuts are brought around frequently enough, but the better cuts a scarce. All this said, as long as the beef served is Albertan beef, I will go back. But if they are using Brazilian beef, I will boycott this restaurant after beef ranchers and farmers in the Brazilian rainforest set the Amazon a fire to clear land resulting in uncontrollable fires this summer. read more

I don't typically "earn my keep" when it comes to the meat, but I lived in Brasil for nearly three years and the stroganoff brought me straight back in the first bite! While I've been to a handful of churrascarias outside of their homeland, this is by far my favourite, perhaps in part due to the authentic flavours and a salad bar that comes complete with beloved beans and rice...and oh yes, that stroganoff! We've been here on two occasions now, the most recent to celebrate my last day as a 30-year old (or my upcoming 31st birthday, depending on how you want to look at it) and ended up in the exact same spot with the same waitress on both occasions. Unfortunately, she is the only thing preventing the restaurant from getting five stars. On our first visit, she forgot to put in the order for the cheese bread, and on the second, we ended up refilling our own water from the pitcher behind us (after several failed attempts to flag her down.) With that said, the Brazilians (and other Gauchos) are quite friendly - they circulate regularly and will bring by any favourites. Sometimes, they even humour me long enough to speak Portuguese! Dined at this little gem last night. The salad bar was amazing and they also had a hot bar with other delightful dishes our favorite was the chicken stroganoff. The meat is served on swords and sliced to your liking. The beef rump was to die for!! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the awful avocado "creme brulee" it was more like guacamole with burnt sugar on top. The owners need to seriously take this item off the menu. I ordered it because it sounded intriguing and interesting. The waitress was nice to not charge us for the dessert because she could see the disgust on my face after taking one bite. Overall though, if your looking for some delicious meats you need to stop in. Just avoid the avocado creme brulee! read more

This was so good. Great selection in the buffet. Selection of BBQ'd meat is also nice. We went when they had the BBQ'd beef rib special. It was melt in your mouth yummy. The only meat that was slightly disappointing was the bacon wrapped chicken. It was really dry and hard to swallow. But one out of all the selections wasn't a deal breaker. Went there for supper a week ago with my boyfriend and we loved it! We had limited time in Canmore and lots of places to try, so we actually ended up going to Gaucho while we weren't that hungry. You know the food is good when you're not even hungry and you still want more! I've been to the Pampa Brazilian restaurant in Edmonton, and this place is so much better! All-you-can-eat meat for $40 even when we were full, was so worth it. We walked in around 830pm (they close at 10). There were 3 other tables when we walked in, and by the time we left we were the only table in the restaurant. Ambience: The restaurant had a warm and welcoming feeling while being modern and clean. You can see the kitchen and the chefs cooking in the back corner (which I like), and the restaurant had a very delicious smell. The best cuts by far, were the Rump Steak and the Beef ribs. If you go for lunch, you miss out on the Ribs! I thought the ribs were good enough to justify the price difference between lunch and supper. We tried every cut of meat. I didn't like the parmesan beef because I think it had been sitting out for a while - it was quite dry. The rest of the cuts were decent and worth a try, but definitely nothing compared to the rump steak and beef ribs (and a close runner up was the top sirloin, although it was seasoned with a strong garlic flavor - only if you're into that). There were no chicken hearts that night either. The buffet was fairly good, I didn't try very much since I wanted to fill up on meat and I was already not that hungry. However, the beans and fresh bread were amazing!!! I actually grabbed an entire second plate of just the beans because they were so delicious, and ended up stuffing them down after my meal even though I was incredibly full. The best part of the night was when the chef came over to us and asked us for any special requests. He was very glad to get us more rump steak and beef ribs. He ended up giving us basically an entire meat off a bone (and they are huge ribs, not the baby back ribs you usually see). He even took the time to answer questions and tell us about how the meats are made! Very cool guy and super friendly! We have visited a few similar restaurants in the past but none came close to the experience at Gauchos in Canmore, the service and food were first rate. The head chef came to the table to introduce himself and answer any questions we might have, after the meal he even took one of the kid in our table into the kitchen to show him how the ribs (his favourite) were prepared. The food was delicious and plentiful, they have gag t-shirts with the message 'I got the meat sweats at Gauchos' and they couldn't have been more apt lol. Would heartily recommend this restaurant, we will be back. read more

Having been to a rodizio type of restaurant in several countries (i.e. US, Mexico, Argentina and most importantly Brazil), I thought this one was a bit lacking. The salad bar was decent although not nearly as extensive as the ones I've seen before (e.g. Fogo de Chao). Like many other places, you have your card that flips from green "Yes" ("Sim por favor") to red "No" ("Nao, obrigado") cards to indicate when you want the meat brought on or need a break/are completely done. Normally, I find myself having to turn it over to the red to give myself a break to eat with the constant visits of meat skewers to the table. But here, I had long waits in between with an empty late. There just weren't nearly as many people coming around. Albeit when they did, everyone of them were very nice and offered extra servings upon being asked. Overall, it is cheaper than the other rodizio's I've been to, so I guess you pay for what you get! read more
