I want to like this place. But it needs a more cozy feel. It's not a place you want to hang out at. The fish and chips.... Well I've had great fish in London, Ireland as well as Newfoundland. Huge pieces of Cod. Lightly fried. Not oily. Unfortunately every time I've eaten at this or the Colfax location, the fish is drenched in oil. Chips are very good. Not sure why? 7th for 2022 "In Cod We Trust" Today's visit, I was greeted by one of the friendliest person in whole wide world and didn't even catch her name. I know what I was ordering and I ended up with combination with side of fries and cup of clam chowders. Oops. Clam chowders? What does British know about clam chowders? After ordering and checking out the place to see if anything has changes or updated and they look all the same as last time I was frequenting. Looks like they are still offering cocktails and such with HH pricing. Too bad that I didn't take advance of that and also it was too early for adult drinks. My order was for a take out and my cashier also packaged my food. Clam chowders, a package of crackers, spoon, combo, side of chips , malt vinegar and tar tar sauce. After 30 minutes drive back at home, finding my food was still hot and fries still crispy and I was still happy man! Yes, the clam chowder was pretty good. It wasn't runny, had plenty of clams and potatoes and the right consistency and flavorful I have visited Colfax location and comparing to that one, this place is a dive.. in a good way. Today is yet another day where I would have stopped at GB Fish and Chips, but after closing overnight a month or so ago, the location once on Colfax is no longer on my way home. Holy motha of fish n' chips! GB... YOU are the mack daddy! As close to authentic London fish and chips that you're probably gonna get! Uuugh! I just... I just want some MORE damnit! Geezuuus!!! So... I just got back home from Denver. This was the BEST meal that I had during my trip. And let me tell you, Denver has some amazing ass food. But THIS meal... just exceptional. This is definitely a divey little joint. You order at the counter, take a number, and then you can sit either inside or outside (tables are all spaced out and COVID friendly). All staff was wearing masks and other customers were wearing masks when they weren't seated at their table. I sat outside on the patio and it's super cute! Plenty of room to social distance and they've got those cute little string lights. There's a small parking lot on the side of the building. Super friendly staff!!! From the gentleman at the counter to the young man who delivered my food, everyone was super friendly and helpful. But anyways, let's get to what's most important: those fish and chips! WOOOO! I opted for the combo plate which comes with 1 cod, 1 tilapia, 1 prawn, 1 squid and 2 scallops plus your choice of side. I subbed the squid for another piece of cod (not a fan of squid and there's a was a $2 upcharge for subs) and of course, opted for the chips as my side. That. Batter. Was. PERFECTO! A crispy fried delight. I think heaven was up in that batter because once I had a taste, it was like heaven in my MOUTH! So friggin' delicious. I enjoyed EVERYTHANG that I received. The cod was flaked up for the GAWDS! The shrimp and scallops were amazing too. And I don't think I've EVER had fried tilapia this good in my life. I feel like I don't ever eat it fried, but it's making me want to take a stab at it in my kitchen at this point. I mean, just amazing fried fish, yo! And those chips were perf too. Just the right amount of crispiness and saltiness to go perfectly alongside the seafood. And those PORTIONS, though! WOW! I was struggling to finish my meal. I'm usually a "let's take it to go and eat the rest later or tomorrow kind of gal". But I was not having that at GB. They were truly testing your girl. So when we were in the area I decided to stop here for lunch. We got 2 half orders of codfish and chips. (Half orders are plenty of food!) It came with a container of vinegar and two containers of tartar sauce. There was a couple eating inside but because of COVID we felt more comfortable eating in the car. My friends and I were drinking after watching England win a football game and to celebrate we ordered food to a house and as we drink again watching yet another game we are talking about the curry sauce and we adore it. My husband loves GB fish and chips and I can't say I blame him! They are probably the most authentic we've ever had. It's a very unassuming place. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. It's not inexpensive if you're a big eater. If you're not a big eater, one platter should do you find and runs around 20 bucks a person. It was so good with the thing crispy batter and amazing tartar sauce. The fries weren't my favorite but my husband loves them. Their steak fries. I like homemade natural fries. Had the fried haddock the other day and I had a great little lunch. The size was easily a 12" filet, with a bunch of crisps so I had to take a box but it actually heated up pretty dang well in the air fryer! The batter is not too heavy, fried perfectly and everything was served piping hot. The chips were steak fries and the curry sauce was SO good. Every so often I have the odd craving to have fish and chips. Everyone had recommended this place to satisfy my craving. Their parking can be a little tricky because the donut shop has so many parking spaces it was hard not to park there. We decided getting our car potentially towed wasn't worth it, so we parked on the street. The place is nice and cozy and decorated with an English pub vibe. Seating can be a bit limited, but you can share some of the bigger bench tables. We ordered an order of cod and an order of tilapia with chips. I like tilapia for pan frying, but it wasn't too bad deep fried. However, for me I liked the classic cod for a fried fish. Our meal came out piping hot with delicious tar tar sauce on the side . My daughter and I had lunch here for the first time today, it was recommended by a random person at the dog park (weird convos you get into). We liked, plenty of choices of fish and sides. I decided to stop by with my girlfriend for a quick snack while exploring around Broadway (which is a cool area with unique stores by the way). First of all, they have their own parking lot so not having to look for street parking was nice, although street parking in that area is easy to find. The service was great.
