We were very unhappy with the food. The fish was quite greasy. We primarily went there to try their pasties. It is difficult to find a restaurant that has pasties. They are an upper Michigan thing. We were disappointed in them as well. The dough is suppose to be flaky, like a pie dough. It was not at all flaky. Not like the type of dough they should have. The continents were not good either. They were tasteless and did not have the correct ratio of meat, potatoes, onions. We will not go back and do not recommend it. read more

I can say with the utmost confidence that out of all of the fish and chips I have had in Denver these are the best. My pregnancy craving has been fish and chips lately and I have eaten them at about a dozen different places in the past few months. Their fish (cod) was flaky and the batter was light and perfect. Since they batter and make the fish made to order there was little doubt it would be good. Their fries are ok but I have had better. Fortunately you can't really screw them up so they are a nice accompaniment. Lunch runs approximately $12.50 for fish and chips and if you get it to go it comes in great packaging so you don't spill everything on your desk. I docked one star for the staff taking forever on a to go order and then not telling me it was ready even though they knew I was there to pick up. If you want fried food done right, this is your place. It's not greasy, and it satisfies any craving for fried food. Chips are good. They've got curry for them--always a plus. Batter is not too heavy and is cooked just right. I crave fish and chips about once a year. GB satisfies that craving. I get cod, some chips, and a soda. Going with 2 stars because I'm super annoyed with this place anymore. We ordered door dash a full combo with extra scallops and squid. Get our food and there's barely no food. So I check and instead of giving us a full combo we got a half combo and none of our extra foods. I can them and they say next time they'll make it up and took my info so I can claim the rest of our food later. Fast forward 2 days... decided to swing by for lunch. Was stoked that I had food credit so I order my half combo and sub tilapia for scallops plus Bonnie squid and scallops ... dude was super nice and apologized for the error. Even said I got this and made sure to note the ticket that it's a correction to our mistake we can't have that happen again. Now I guess I should know by now to check my food but they swore it's fixed. I mean how can you fuck up fuck up fix right.... WRONG. Get back to work open my food and sure as shit I'm missing food again. Not sure who they have working in back but they clearly cannot count. This time missing 2 scallop, a squid, and a prawn. Not only am I now 30 min late to work but I'll have a cold box of fried fish and a hot scallop, squid and shrimp to eat. Let alone the food is steeping in its own juices inside the new clear containers they use while I wait for them to remake half of it. There is a choice of side, and didn't think chips was fries, so that was on me. I got coleslaw instead. There's nothing special about it, didn't stick out to me. have not been here for a while. Stepped in on 11/7 and ordered 3 pieces of cod. The fish was very small in portion, and heavily breaded. The filets were overpowered by batter. Then it was fried way to long, very over done. we had a total of 6 pieces/ one order of fries(very small) and a side coleslaw(small cup) and two sodas. It came to 37 dollars!!! Two words: so good. The ambiance is casual, like a pub. They do serve alcohol. Order from the counter and seat yourself. The fish are expertly crisped and I very sincerely suggest the combination plate. I am funny about scallops but these are perfection. I have been wanting to come here for forever. I was tempted to get the combo but decided to go classic. I got the 3piece cod with a side of chips and curry sauce. As well as a cup of clam chowder. I first must say I finished all of it and it was truly delicious. The cup of chowder was creamy and I liked that you could taste the clams and potatoes. Sometimes at other restaurants the potatoes are overloaded this once was great. You also get a side of oyster crackers. The cod was fried fresh and it was delicious and not fishy. The chips were the fat kind, kinda reminded me of steak fries. Were great especially when dipped with a side of curry. The curry was full of onions, I love that!!!! I just moved to Denver in January. I've made a Saturday morning tradition of grabbing breakfast at Wake and Bake, which shares a parking lot with these guys so I'd been wanting to try them for a few weeks now. This place hit the spot when my most recent fish and chips craving hit. I got a meal with a half order of cod (3 approximately 6" long pieces), chips (steak-fry style), a side of baked beans and a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. Everything was great! I ordered for takeout and my meal was ready in less than 20 minutes. They brought it out to the curb and everything was nice and hot. The batter on the cod was crispy but not too heavy. It was perfectly flaky and delicious! The menu claims there's a clam in every bite of their chowder and they weren't lying. I grew up in Massachusetts and good clam chowder (loaded with a healthy portion of freshly ground black pepper and oyster crackers, of course!) is one of my favorite cold weather comfort foods. Ordered fish and chips and bangers and mash and shared because I wanted it all lol Everything was delicious. Fish was fresh and not the least bit fishy. The coleslaw was so so good. The sautéed onions on the bangers were drool worthy. I happen to love spicy mustard, but theirs was inedible, way too much horseradish. The clam chowder was meh. Not awful but wouldn't get it again. The cod is amazing, especially with the side of curry. I recently tried the prawns. Tasty, but a bit tough. The problem is it's gotten very expensive. The half order of cod alone was $12.95, the side is $2.50. If you get the meal it's nearly $20. And you're only getting a drink and a side with your fish. I got a half order of cod with a side of curry and a half order of prawns. With tip it was almost $32! That's too much for lunch. But did I mention it's really tasty? read more

Fish is very good everything else was a joke! Fry's were dry and had no taste, how do you mess up French frys ? The side of cole slaw for 2.50 is comical not to mention the size of the tartar sauce you get. I had to pay a extra 1.08 for more when I arrived to pick up my order even though this meal costed 23.00 ! Definitely not a great location, the one on colfax is much nicer and friendlier! I would like to mention there was a friendly man there, that was going to give me Tatar sauce but this awful woman made sure to charge me 1.08. She was rude and looked like a lost puppy dog! This is the kind of restaurant where I would not hesitate to try anything on the menu. Though it was my first visit, everything I had was spectacular. It's obvious that this little place takes great pride in all that they do. As I drove by, I noticed the little building sitting off of the street. It's likely this place is a converted house and as such, it feels quite homey, like you just walked into somebody's house for a home cooked meal. After I drove by, I started thinking about fish and chips and quickly noticed that GB Fish & Chips had high ratings. It was a perfect culinary storm, and though the construction in the area made it difficult to get back to, I would later learn that it was 100% worth the inconvenience. The young man that took my order was kind, courteous, and helpful, unlike the garden center employee at Walmart today, who made it seem like I was bothering her by asking a simple question. No, this young man's attitude was perfect. Further, he offered suggestions on what a new customer might wish to try first. So cod, it was. And yet, I am a huge fried oyster fan. I asked if I would be able to order one fried oyster to sample. YES! Great restaurants always accommodate their customers and aim to please. Yes, it was a little pricy for just one, but that is what I wanted and that's what I got. Turns out, the fried oysters were incredible, right up there among the best I have ever had. I did not regret spending the extra $2.50. And the cod. Wow! I am no expert, but I have had my share of tepid fish with breading that did not adhere well, or with a flavor that is out of whack. Not here; each piece of cod was piping hot and perfectly seasoned. The breading had intermittent elevated pockets of crunchy goodness, which only added to the appeal. The fries were also prepared perfectly, golden brown on the outside, hot and wonderful on the inside. The fries are steak fries, an excellent accompaniment to the fish. I was one tarter sauce container short, which I did not mind. First, an employee walks through the dining area to make sure that every customer has enough lemon and tarter sauce, so I could have ask for more. Even so, I decided to enjoy the purity of cod without tarter sauce on my last piece. And so glad I did. If somebody demanded that I find one area that needs improvement, it would be to adjust the pop machine. Upon engaging the ice lever, ice comes pouring out at a rate that is much too fast. I can imagine that employees get tired of wiping the floor clean from ice that has escaped and melted. And it wasn't just me. Every customer I saw use the pop machine lost several cubes on the floor. Small time problem, but I felt like I had to offer some balance with the rest of my flowery compliments. GB Fish and Chips is an example of what can happen when a restaurant cares about the details, hires genuinely nice people, and manages the place like their livelihood depended on it. Because it does. Went here for an early dinner today and it was amazing. We might have to go back for a second time while we are here in denver. The service was great, the gentleman manning the cash register was super friendly. The fish and chips were so good, you could just tell it was fresh fish that had been freshly fried. This is exactly what we are looking for. As someone who's had some quality fish and chips in London, this really took me back. Would definitely go here again.
