I hired Halcyon to replace a spring and rollers for my garage door on 8/31. My garage door stops closing within a day, so I called the company immediately. The same technician arrived within a few hours and found that the garage sensors' lights are off. He did not have the parts, so he asked me to wait. The technician is nice and told me not to worry. I did not get ANY response from Halcyon for two weeks. The company ignores my two emails as well. On 9/14, I hired another company to inspect sensors. The technician fixed the sensors within a few minutes WITHOUT using any parts. Based on the comment from the second technician, the malfunction was due to wire damage caused by a recent replacement. A simple maintenance work turned into a two-week nightmare dealing with an irresponsible business. I have learned from my lesson that choosing a contractor is an important task. I've used Halcyon for a new door / opener install at a previous house. I recently had a competing company tell me that I need new springs, rollers, and a new opener. It didn't sound right so I called Halcyon-they replaced two rollers & performed some basic maintenance & the door is working as it should. Halcyon is the best. No Issue with the person who came to fix the issue. This is with how companies deal with being transparent with the customers. I would not hire them again and will not recommend working with this company. Fee transparency was not declared on the phone by someone called Beth. Issue: 2 garage remotes were not working. Charges: I paid are as below 1. Trip charge ( $125) This was not informed to us when we spoke to them. 2. Labor Charge: $90 for 1 hour (It took literally 10 minutes for the person to fix the remote, however, initiated maintenance stuff that we did not order or ask him to do making it an hour job. We really liked the guy who came and he was meticulous with the job, however, if you are offering complementary service, make sure you don't charge the customer for it. I asked them if they could get a dent out of my garage door and get it back on the rails and Beth the service representative was extremely patient, helpful, and informative. She let me know that they always try and repair a door before suggesting replacement. When John their service technician came out, he was able to repair my door in just 30 minutes and it only cost me $165. I had contacted another company which had informed me they had inspected my damaged garage door and I would have to replace the whole thing and purchase a new motor. Halcyon is the best. My idrive garage door opener got stuck on Sunday morning. I had another company come out and they were not able to troubleshoot the problem. The salesman/tech (John) was very friendly, knowledgable and fair on his pricing. As for my garage install, their office called me and rescheduled with me on three separate occasions. I can understand schdeuling issues, but the 3rd time was a bit much because I had to coordinate for someone to be home. Anyhow, onto the important part, the install: Install went well, the tech knew his stuff and was fast. My only complaint about the techs work (which I didn't catch until the next day after the fact) was that the weatherstripping that goes on the outside of garage door that attaches to the house had literally fallen down from the top. He used small nails with a flat top that was very visible/ugly and apparetly many of them missed wood. When the garage was closing/going down it caused the strip to fall. Additionally, on the weather stripping, he never caulked the nail holes or the seams where it sits against the wall making the wood undernewath susceptible to water damage. I thought this was piss poor and figured if i called and complained they would probably have to schedule it causing me to wait longer and I'm sure all they would have done is put more of the same ugly nails into the wood this time. I also think that they would have argued that caulking the weatherstripping is not part of the job (assumption). For this reason, I decided to fix it all myself and give the company three stars. While I didn't provide the company an opportunity to fix this since I didn't tell them, I feel that something like this shows the quality of the work and I didn't have the time to wait and go through possible rescheduling 3 times again. read more

One of the springs broke around 5pm on Sat 3/15/2014. I called around 6pm and asked if it could be fixed on Sunday. The rep apologetically said that Sunday was their only off day, but would I like to schedule an appointment for Monday between 12-2. I did. She quoted the price for one spring and said I could get both springs replaced for an extra $30. I could tell the installer. Jon Sprung showed up 10 minutes early. He installed the new springs in 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the motor didn't work anymore. Jon replaced the motor with a Linear LDCO800 in 1.5 hours. I would highly recommend and would use them again. read more

Jon fixed the rotten job done by GDS (Garage Door Services) that also go by several other names. That provider did a shoddy job and overcharged for their services. When the door started malfunctioning after GDS had changed a spring, I called them back but they refused to provide the warranty service. So I called Halcyon. These guys are the best. Beth squeezed me into the days schedule. Jon arrived in the mid afternoon, spent an hour and a half and got the door working smoothly again. The charges were fair, for example I was charged $50 for a spring when GDS told me it was $329 (I had ended up paying them $200 for a spring). Awesome! My only complaint that the first time they sent someone who didn't seem to have a good attitude and wanted to simply replace the whole setup. I called the office and this is a family run business, talked to the lady and she said will send her husband Jon who is super busy, but it was worth the wait! The first guy who came over said he doesn't know how long it would take him, maybe 1 hour, maybe 3 hours?! wtf... I was ready to wait another 5 days. Anyhow, Jon came over, he pointed to some issues, had a great attitude, fixed the problem in less than 45min, replaced the bent fixtures and now the setup looks much better and steady. I am so impressed with this company. Great price, service, and polite. I called a competitor, in Sunnyvale, who would not give a definitive answer about the cost. Halcyon quoted $199.00 for one spring and $249.00 for both. They came out the same day! They quoted between 12:30 and 2:00, and the installer was here at 12:25! They were able to come the next day after my garage door spring was broken. They came in the time window they promised and went to work directly. My garage door now has a new spring and is working fine. They also offer one year labor and 3 year part warranty which I really appreciate. The technician was nice and respectful. One thing I was unhappy about was that I was charged $40 extra labor when I was ready to pay the bill. The extra fee was not communicated to me during work or prior to the payment. It came as a surprise. If someone told me earlier that there would be a possibility of extra fee, I wouldn't have minded to pay $40 extra to have it fixed earlier. The total cost of replacing two springs is close to $300, which seems to be a little high to me. read more

We called Halcyon Overhead Door informing them the problem for getting it fixed, however they cleared all the codes which did not work and still being opened by neighbors. Used these guys twice. The first time for my townhouse was ok, but the repair guy kept trying to talk me into replacing the garage door opener instead of fixing the motor. He did the job at an ok price. The second time for my single family home to replace the torsion springs. This other repair person said the cables needed to be replaced, both sides, even though only one side showed slight fraying. He quoted a price and afterwards added labor for an extra 30 minutes which he didn't tell me about before doing the job. Asshole! This company really pushes their repair people to sell add ons that are not necessary. There are many better garage door repair companies out there; don't be suckered by this one! read more

I found this company through diamondcertified.org, so I trusted they won't be unreasonable. The result: I was charged $180 for a set of rollers, and $70 for a 21" reinforcement bracket. I later saw the rollers for $30 on Amazon, and the bracket for $18. After I complained they gave me a $100 discount but insisted that they stand by the $180 and $70 prices. $130 vs. $30, $40 vs $18. You decide whether you want to deal with this company or not. read more

Want to agree with a previous poster about the additional labor charges, hidden fees, and additionally, high prices for parts. Have used this company twice, first time was several years ago for a broken torsion spring. I experienced good service and fair prices then. Now, I experienced another garage door problem. However, this time the experience was worse, this company has declined. A surcharge is against the merchant agreement businesses are supposed to adhere to when they agree to accept credit cards. It is very unusual for a contractor to charge a credit card surcharge. Halcyon charges an extra fee when paying by credit card. This is something they did not previously do. This surcharge was not mentioned when I scheduled, and was only disclosed when it was time to pay. I did some research on what door parts cost for roll-up doors. I discovered after comparing the price I was charged for parts by Halcyon, that Halcyon parts prices are 100-400% higher, even factoring in expedited shipping. With such a high parts mark-up and the surcharge they want for using a credit card, I would no longer recommend this company. I found this company through Diamond Certified. What I have since discovered is that companies must pay $ as part of being recognized as "certified". I understand Halcyon is in business to make a profit, but with their high parts mark-up and additional undisclosed fees, Halcyon Overhead Door should be avoided. read more

Our garage door died and we got three bids to fix it. Prestigious Garage Door didn't even have a set price and was "bargaining" when the guy got there. He charged us $50 just to come out. Halcyon was responsive, professional and accommodating! They were also the best price! Jennifer on the phone was courtious and couldn't have been nicer. They even rescheduled when I had something come up. Jonathan, the repair man, was also knowledgeable, courtious and professional. He was honest and knew what he was doing and got everything done really fast and well. He even tightened the screws on the door and lubricated the motor without me having to ask! I really needed to upgrade our garage door which I think dated itself from circa 1970. I knew that there were new garage door openers out there that were decibels softer and faster. As a result, I decided to hunt for a contractor who I could trust. While searching on http://www.diamondcertified.org/santaclaracounty.html I found Halycon. I took a look at their site and knew that they were the one for me. I called in the morning to obtain a quote for the installation of a new garage door opener that they could recommend. I had done a little bit of research and was glad that they recommended one that I had in mind. Their service included the total product, installation, removal AND tax. Not bad. After letting them know that I wanted to schedule to have this installed, they informed me that they would be able to come out that same day to set this up. Whoa. THE SERVICE: So when I set this appointment up, they gave me a three hour window to expect someone to come by. The guy showed up on time and was able to get to work. He was able to scope things out for us and noticed that we had a broken spring. (Ohhhh... so maybe that's the loud bang that we heard about 2 years ago...) What really made me frown was the fact that we had to replace the broken spring. Yup, extra $$$. Luckily, he had the part on him and was able to replace it. I am not sure what the price of replacing a spring is, but didn't really have a choice. Boy, that was pricey! THE VERDICT: The garage door installation went smoothly. The Chamberlain garage door is ever-so silent. Not even my dogs can hear the door open and close. To top it off, we have 2 new super sleek garage door opener remotes. Sweet. TIP: Although the quote includes the garage door opener, two remotes, removal and tax, it does not include an external keypad. If you want this, it will cost you a mere $20 extra. Not bad. read more

7/1/13: Hired them to install a garage door opener. The installer used his car keys as a ballast to get the wall control's wires from one side of the garage to another. So he throws the keys and they land smack on the middle of my BMW's hood! Needless to say, I told him to get out and cancelled the job from Halcyon. Update 7/3/13: Jennifer from Halycon asked me to give them a 2nd chance, so I did. But this time I had John, the owner, finish the job. This time no mishaps (and he asked me to move my car, which I obliged) and the job seems to be finished just fine. They added in rollers for the door to help appease me. read more

Four years ago Halcyon installed tension springs on a roll up garage door after an existing spring had broken. Those lasted two years. I called them again and new springs were installed. No discount was offered notwithstanding that springs should generally last 10 times as long those springs lasted. Two years later I had trouble getting the door to raise. It would open about 10 inches and quit. This time I called someone else. Upon arrival he took one look at the springs and said two things: 1) the springs were mismatched, i.e., two different spring strengths; and, 2) neither were appropriate for my garage door since mine was insulated and thus heavier thereby requiring a heavier, stronger spring. Further, the reason the door had not been performing as it should was that because the springs took an inadequate load, the door opener motor had to work that much harder. He said that it was obvious to anyone working as a garage door installer that the springs were inadequate because with proper springs you should be able to lift the door with one hand. In contrast, with my door I had to squat as if I would doing a dead lift and raise the door using a significant amount of effort. I'll not use this company again. I really am disappointed with the poor quality of their work. read more

We used Halcyon for a new garage door opener installation last year, and were so impressed that we called them again to replace our other, older opener. Their prices were competitive, and the information they provided regarding specific selection and installation details (Belt drive or chain drive? How much horsepower is needed?) was greatly appreciated. They were able to schedule our installation for the same day (!) - but as it turns out, their previous job ran long, so they weren't able to make the originally scheduled appointment time. However, Jennifer kept me well-informed, and worked with me to define a mutually-acceptable alternative. Jon arrived and was incredibly personable, informative, and - most of all - capable. We had a few challenges with the installation, but he and his assistant were able to resolve them all without difficulty. They also installed a MyQ gateway to allow for internet control of our openers (awesome, BTW), as well as diagnosed difficulties with HomeLink commands from our vehicles, and installed a repeater to ensure reliable functionality from them. They even went the extra mile to ensure all controllers were programmed as needed, and verified full functionality. A perfectly-implemented installation effort, which we couldn't be happier with.
