Having been an avid cyclist for over 25 years, I've seen my share of bike shops. Gearhead in Pacifica tops them all, hands down. Matt & Tracy helped me build my dream mountain bike, component by component. Their patience was endless. They steered me clear of unnecessary parts, yet understood I wanted the best possible. They could have made more money on all this by, e.g.: building custom wheels, but my heart was set on factory-made ones. Despite, I never got any "attitude" about it. My bike was built meticulously. Unsurpassed Service I have had my old Specialized Stumpjumper serviced there 2 times and was very happy with the results. Very mellow staff and always other bikers hanging out. Very easy to start a conversation about the local trails. My buddy and I were having minor problems with my bike last tuesday. We were getting set to ride but my bike was'nt working properly. We went to Gearhead but it was CLOSED. We were outside the closed shop trying to fix my bike for about a minute. One of the workers or owner saw us fiddling with my bike outside. He came out of the shop which he did'nt have to do on his day off. He fixed the bike which was very minor but we could'nt figure it out. I was not charged a cent too. When have you ever received service from a CLOSED business? I have never experience such service and will be a customer for life. I proudly sport my "Gearhead" sticker on my big truck. read more

Went into shop to inquire about new handlebars, a unique wheel set build, and a high quality bike rack. These guys impressed me on all accounts. They helped me find a new pair of handlebars that would not cause me pain in my hands - the ones which came on my bike (ordered the bike online - not an in-store-purchase) were giving me terrible arm/hand pain. When I inquired about a unique internal gear hub wheel hub, they knew the exact model I was talking about (every other shop I've visited was clueless about this particular model) and they are actively building a bike using an older model of the hub. I will be going back to have the wheel build here when the part comes in. Lastly, I wanted a quality bike rack. They helped set it up on my car (made sure I knew how to put it on and take it off), and the sales guy owns a similar model - showed it to me on his van. I'm really glad I stepped into the shop and look forward to going back for all my bike needs. read more

Had a great experience. Needed a bike for my 8 year old, one for my 10 year old and one for the wife. Mike spent an hour with us helping us understand the pros and cons of the different models and price points. We demoed a dozen bikes in the parking lot. Walked away with two BMXs and a hybrid. As well as the personal service, got very competitive prices. With the lifetime minor tune up with each bike I will be saving over getting something 'cheap' from a box store. read more

Two weeks ago I brought my 12 yr. old's bike in for service. Price was less than estimated & return of bike was right on time. Due to the professionalism & friendliness this neighborhood business showed us, we decided to go back today to look at a new bike for my 9 yr. old. Free fix for minor repairs for life. They gave us a discount on accessories at time of purchase. Most importantly, Matt was friendly & respectful when giving the briefing of the bike to my 9 yr. old. Love this place! I just wanted to give you guys a shout-out. I came in last Thursday around 6 hoping to get some new tubeless tires thrown on my bike. I wasted my time with this shop ,totally uncool unproffesional service, After ordering a very important piece for my main transportation for getting to work, MY BIKE, shop attendant or owner tells me that he would have it ready in one week, i came back to gearhead after a week, only to be received by a very unwelcoming shop attendant saying that HE FORGOT TO ORDER THE PART...and to top it all off HE was not even interested in helping solve the problem, or rectify the error read more

These guys were super duper nice on the phone and helpful. BUT this is a fancy bike store (their cheapest bike is $400). I just needed to replace some wheels that were stolen and it would have ended up costing me more than I paid for the bike itself. In my opinion, this is one of the best shops in the bay area. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They are willing to work with you to find out your cycling needs. I had thrashed my Bmx Cruiser wheels over a period of time. There was a massive "Hop" it the front wheel. I went into this shop to get them true. My wheels turned out perfectly and I got them a day earlier than they had expected. I have been back to this shop a few times to pick up parts. I've noticed that they treat every customer, regardless of age, with the same respect. It is a hard quality to find in bicycle shop. Between the excellent customer service and the array of parts; it is definitely worth the drive. Also, you can give your bike a real test ride because there are dirt jumps right next to the shop! read more

I went to Gearhead to get the fenders put on because they quoted me only $20. So when the guy took a quick look at my bike, he recommended a mini tune up and quoted $55. He also told me that my bike would be ready by the time they closed (7:00). I called at around 6:00 to ask for the status of my bike. The lady who answered said no one had even started on my bike, but it would be the first bike they'd work on the following morning and that it would be ready by 1:00 pm. 1:00 rolls around and I haven't heard from them so I called. Not ready yet. Waited til 2:00. Called them again. The guy was just putting on the fenders because they didn't have the right hardware. (It's a bike shop...they don't have the screws for fenders?!?!?!?!). It was another 20 minutes before he called to let me know my bike was ready. When we got there. The bill was for $85.00 (Whaaaaat?!?!?!) They did a GREAT job on my bike, but not once did they call to check with me to ok any additional work and PLUS my bike wasn't ready when they said it was going to be. Too bad, but I DO LOVE MY BIKE!!! read more

The reviews are probably really great and others must have had a great experience, but if you have never owned a nice bicycle and bring into get it sized then YOU BETTER DO YOUR RESEARCH! !! The purpose was only to get our new bike sized (it was a gift) and that is what we did, but later the cops were called. Thanks Gearhead for the racial profiling and labeling us as criminals!! Never again will I do business and I will definitely share my experience with others. Be careful people, if you get a nice bike as a gift, don't know much of it or the COPS WILL BE CALLED. I don't know what everyone is talking about, this bike shop has crappy customer service, the door is always locked when I need a bike part, and it is extremely overpriced, big shocker pacifica. Been a resident here my entire life and have been to the bike shop about 5 times. I now would rather drive 20 mins downtown to go to mikes bikes. read more

I cannot begin to say how much these guys contribute to our community. 1) locally owned and operated small business keeping our community spirit alive and unique 2) knowledge of products is outstanding 3) they fix stuff and do their job well 4) you have better trails because of what they do on their own time out of the goodness of their hearts 5) look back on your own childhood about the outdoor time we used to have: they are mentoring youth to care for their own park so that this culture survives and draws new riders to the sport 6) great advice for various levels of skill 7) I've never heard, I'll order it. Fast and reliable shop, first time I went it I needed new pedals for my mountain bike and some other stuff. I had never put a pair of pedals on in my life so I asked Tracy for some pointers, instead of just telling me, she showed me and did for me at nothing more than the pedals themselves. Second time, I walk in and Matt asks me what he could help me with. I reply broken chain and spoke, he quickly removes a bike from the stand without hesistation and puts mine up and does a few checks and says "You need a new chain, do you want to wait while I fix it or come back to pick it up?" I let him know with the super bowl gluttony I was about to partake in and that I was hoping to ride today. He says he'll need about 30 mins. 20 mins later the bike is done/test rode and shifting better than it ever had before. Gearhead for the win! This place tramples my old hometown bike shop in every aspect except for bike selection. read more

Was riding up the 1 when the bottom bracket of my bike basically disintegrated. I walked into the shop and they replaced it on the spot for a super reasonable price. I would get my bike serviced here all the time if it wasn't an hour drive. read more

Brought my bike in for disc brakes service. $70 later and they replaced the pads (I think) and left everything else as is...brakes still don't work right. It is clear to me that they did the absolute minimal amount of work possible and didn't bother to test run the bike. They gladly took my money and when I called them on it the owner made excuses and blamed me. $70 for new brake pads (possibly) attitude and lousy work. They might be great for selling new stuff but clearly they aren't in the repair business. read more

I love this place. The guys are so knowledgeable and their prices are beyond reasonable. If you need something, they order it right away. If it is something really simple they can even help you out. The owner really loves bikes and wants to make sure yours is ready to ride safely. His prices are reasonable, and every time I go (always with a minor problem) he gets me in and out of his shop in under a half hour. And a 5-minute fix is often just $5 or $10. He has earned my loyalty. read more

For some reason, I thought this shop dealt with trail bikes, exclusively. Why? They do it all. Even souping up my bike to get me through some major road rides while I train for a century. I had taken my bike to 2 other shops who wanted me to get replacements for parts that were perfectly fine. When Matt at Gearhead took a look, he immediately found areas needing adjustment that the other shops missed. My second time here and I have to rave about them. This time I just walked off the street with need of a wheel repair and they had me on my way with a fixed wheel and a little adjustment all over in just 20 minutes. Tracy is really knowledgeable, thorough and service oriented. Its really great that they have a woman bike repairperson. Most important, they never make me feel less valuable because I am not a bike expert or into any biking culture. And there are plenty of those kinds of customers in the shop too who seem pretty pleased! They act like they care about me and my bicycle whatever level I am on. I go out of my way to come here rather than another coast side bike shop where they do make me feel not very valued. I've had a tune up here and will have another and its really extending the life of my bicycle. When I'm ready to buy a new one I will consult with them first ad see what they've got. Went Gearhead to get my bike tuned up. Showed up first thing in the morning on a Saturday with my 3 year old son and bike. I got there as they opened and was the only person in the store. I left my bike outside and strolled in with my son. No joke, I stood there for 5 minutes 5 feet from the clerk and politely waited for him to finish whatever he was intently doing on his laptop. This shop is TINY so it made it even more awkward after five minutes standing at the counter that his guy never even looked up to acknowledge my presence. It was actually shocking, rude and kind of strange. He obviously was more interested in whatever was on his computer so I finally called my son and walked out, got my bike and took it to Summit bike shop in Burlingame who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Gearhead needs some serious customer service training. They lost a customer for life (4 person, 4 bike family). Rude, rude ,rude. read more
