Delicious ice cream, cleanest place, great service. I brought my wife and daughter and had a wonderful time, old school, good family time.

The gelato here was amazing. They have small taste spoons which help you decide what to get. The service was prompt and friendly. I had amaretto almond and a cinnamon graham cracker dough (special) flavor. They were both rich and delicious. As my son ate his cherry ices, I debated going back for more since almost all the flavors sounded yummy. If I lived in Richmond, I would be a regular. The only downside is the location. It is in the back of the back of a strip mall. Perhaps they can do cross-marketing with Crustacean Boil & Grill in the same mall. read more

Probably my favorite ice cream in Richmond. I'll take the whole barrel of baklava (with real chunks of baklava) to go please! Employees are really friendly and the line is normally out the door during summer, but it moves quick! They have their regular flavors of just ask, chocolate decadence, birthday cake, but I love trying their seasonal flavors. They also have a freezer with pies, cookies, and cakes. I can see why there are multiple Gelati Celestis in the area, this one just happened to be the closest. I was impressed by the number and variety of flavors, and I got a kick out of them having a flavor called "Just Ask." A small cup seemed expensive at first, but you do get a lot more than you realize. It was tasty, though slightly creamier than I've had at most other places. The help here are very friendly and polite too. There's more seats outside than inside, perfect for eating your gelato on a warm evening. read more

The best gelato in rva hands down! It came to VCU's campus for a food truck event today and I was amazed by how the taste was. It was smooth, perfectly sweet, and delicious! I chose Oreo cause it's my favorite flavor and I was looking to see if it did it justice, having tried several failures, being too sweet with other brands. But.. wow!! The best cookies and cream I've ever tasted! Better than häagen-dazs, breyers and closest to Italian gelato you can find in the east coast or Virginia! I ordered online and drove to the store to pick it up. Quick and easy process. I ordered the mint chip and it was delicious!!

I visited this location over the weekend and was just completely dissatisfied with every part of the experience. We ordered the sugar free raspberry sorbet, it was crumbling as the employee scooped it into the cup, it was not sorbet by any means and just bright pink ice chunks. (if someone would have let us we would have tasted it before ordering to avoid that mistake but they did not allow taste testing). The prices were extremely high for what we ended up with. Over $20 for 3 people getting a small scoop? The staff was also very unorganized, 3 people tried to take our order but got called to help for other issues. To top everything off this is just not even gelato, this is ice cream. I would not recommend. read more

My family LOVES Gelati Celesti. It is our children's number one choice when we ask them where they want ice cream or dessert. The ice cream is so rich and creamy and love the variety of choices. My son usually gets Chocolate Chocolate, I get either Chocolate Peanut Butter or Just Ask, and my daughter usually gets some type of icee or sherbet type. My husband just samples all of ours!! When I first moved to Richmond I found Gelati Celesti by accident when I make a wrong turn and went to turn around in this little shopping center. I saw the name of the store and memorized it for later. A few days after I went back to try it out and am so happy I made that fateful mistake! The best flavor hands down is their "Just Ask" which is a vanilla gelato with a peanut butter swirl and Oreo chunks. Can life get any better? I always sample other flavors and enjoy what I've had (Salted Caramel, Pumpkin, Banana & PB) but always end up going with Just Ask. Whatever you go with though, you will not be disappointed. Their toddler size may seem tiny but don't let looks deceive you, their gelato is rich and it's a great portion for a little something sweet. I haven't tried any of the ice cream sandwiches or other goodies for sale but I'm sure they're awesome. The staff is always extremely helpful and patient when we're in there, and I used to work at an ice cream shop so I know it can get stressful during the summer. I love their huge chalkboard wall that allows patrons to add to the decor of their shop. I love them so much that I'm getting in touch to see if we can possibly have some of their gelato at our wedding next summer! read more

I give it 5 stars for never serving me bad ice cream, old ice cream or frozen/burned ice cream. This says a lot. I have been going here since they opened and when in the "Mid West End" I always try and stop in. Today, with 100+ temperatures, it was a no brainer. I went in and got a small (most would call it a large) chocolate chip on a regular old fashioned sugar cone. Simple, perfection, creamy, fresh, and with big chunks of chocolate that were crunchy and delicious. I am also impressed by the large assortment of flavors given that all ice cream and sorbet is made fresh daily. There are sundaes, banana splits, sherberts, Thank God I had cash on me because they don't take ATM or Credit Cards so be forewarned! read more

This place was always packed when I went there & for good reason....creamy, soft, scrumptious ice cream in a multitude of deeeelish flavors.....perfect for any occasion & homemade, right on site! (You can even see them mixing it up in the back) I particularly love their Chocolate-Peanut Butter. Nowhere else makes this & I mean nowhere. Haagen Dazs THINKS they offer Chocolate-Peanut Butter but they don't even come close to the yumminess of Gelati's! Also to die for are their Almond Amaretto and Chocolate Decadence. I really can't think of a Gelati flavor I haven't liked. I've been living in San Francisco for 9 yrs now & totally miss Gelati's - in fact, I will go out of my way & make it a point to travel to Rich when on the East Coast, just to stop by & have a pint (aka single serving size) Well worth the cross country jaunt! read more

Number one thing I loved: the scoops they load onto that tiny cone are huge. And I found everyone working to be really friendly and pleasant. There were a couple of cops waiting for ice cream before me, so maybe that had something to do with it. They have sugar cones, which I found to be a treat, along with the regular cake and waffle cones, and you can even get it dipped in chocolate. I opted for the 'Toddler' size, which means one gigantic scoop for $2 & change. They had a few peanut butter ice creams (my weakness is a thick ribbon of peanut butter), and they even let me taste each one. I ended up going with the "Just Ask," or whatever it was called, which is white chocolate with a peanut butter ribbon and Oreo pieces. Lots of good choices there but I liked mine. It did get really sweet at the end but I was expecting that. I wanted to take a nap after I ate it and it ended up ruining my dinner plans, since I'd gone there around 3. Still, quite tasty. They have so many flavors it will give you an identity crisis as you may think about changing your name to one of them after trying them all. When something is said to be "X Flavor" you can guarantee that the flavor of the Gelato is going to slide right across your tastebuds and smack you right in the mouth and ask you "Where my money? I can't say anything bad about Gelati Celesti. Seriously, they have awesome ice cream and they get bonus points for being a locally-owned family business. Some of my fave flavors...baklava, cinnamon oatmeal cookie dough, birthday cake, and almond amaretto. I've heard rumors that it's not actually gelato here, but whatever it is, it is divine! I've come here a few times now and I love loVE LOVE their white chocolate gelato! My second favorite has got to be their pralines n cream. Full of flavor, rich and creamy. For a little over $5, I got 2 huge (in comparison to other gelato shops) scoops in a waffle cone! It's enough for 2 people to share! They've got a great selection and they let you taste the flavors before you make your choice if you so wish. Definitely worth the trip. I'm somewhat puzzled by some of the prior mixed reviews. When reviewing an ice cream shoppe, I think it comes down to a couple of things - taste and selection. I didn't count the number of flavors but I would say there were at least 20. They had both the standards and a couple of unusual flavors as well - Salted Chocolate - when I was there. As for the taste - it was way above average - the salted chocolate was not sweet at all and was balanced very well. The Just Ask was a tad sweet for my tastes, but it paired well with the more savory salty dark rich chocolate ice cream. The ice creams were creamy and perfectly soft. There were no discernable ice crystals anywhere in sight. If there is any knock, I guess it would be the location - a bit hard to find in the back of a strip mall. I can't really deduct stars for this though. Very strong showing here - I would definitely return. read more

Oh MAN I love this place. They make everything there and you can tell. My mom really loves their peach ice cream because she says it tastes just like homemade. I really enjoy some of their more creative flavors. The best one is white chocolate peanut butter Oreo, which I usually find there during late summer/early fall. The fruity flavors are also good bets. Drawbacks: it can be a little on the pricy side for ice cream, but it's yummy enough to be worth it and you get a lot for your money. This place is the best! It was my first time there, and the woman working was extremely friendly, helpful and patient-- it takes a minute to choose your flavors! She asked what kind of flavors I like and scooped me some samples to try. I ended up going with Just Ask (white chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and crushed Oreos) and Chocolate Decadence. Today I tried the espresso bean and the white chocolate. Espresso bean was very mild in flavor (and only because I'm a stickler... isn't espresso in this sense a grind not a bean?) Anyways The white chocolate lacked all white chocolate flavor. I think I'll go back and try some of the other flavors, hopefully something wows because the hype here is huge... sadly it just didn't meet up today. Probably my favorite place in the area to go get good quality ice cream, I've been coming here to Gelati Celesti since the late 90's. They are often coming out with new amazing flavors and have an abundance of different options. The staff is friendly and will let you try anything to see how you like it. Recently, I got a to-go pint of salted caramel for my wife (her favorite) and came home to discover it was actually coffee flavored. I called the location and they said to just come in next week and have a free pint of salted caramel. Of course, I couldn't make it in that week and took a few weeks to get back, and they still were willing to honor that. I can't say enough about how awesome the staff is here and their options are amazing. I'm satisfied with almost every type of ice cream they have, which makes it a tough choice when getting ready to checkout! read more
