I have always been a huge fan of Gelati Celesti. It is a Richmond staple. There are so many locations so you can get your sweet fix no matter where you are around town. The ice cream is very thick and creamy. Portions are large - I typically get a toddler or small size. It is on the pricier side but definitely worth it. They have a variety of flavors and allow you to try as many as you want. They also have unique seasonal flavors, which they update on their website and social media. There are pints and quarts available for purchase in store. This location has seating inside and outside under a covered patio. read more

Gelato Celesti is my favorite space for a "sweet treat." They have a wide variety of flavors that they change often. The plus is they allow you to taste as many as you want before you make the big decision of cone or cup. My favorite flavor is mint Oreo! It's seasonal and not offered often, but when it's offered I get it every time! My second favorite is strawberry! You can't go wrong with strawberry flavored anything!!! Their gelato is the same no matter the location. I've never had a bad batch. Also, the staff is always helpful and friendly and they do a great job keeping their buildings fresh and clean. We stopped in Gelati Celeste recently for dessert and it was delicious. I ordered the birthday cake and it was so good! It was perfectly creamy and sweet with the perfect birthday cake flavor. They had a lot of flavors and let you sample them so I was able to try a couple before ordering. I also tried the salted caramel and it was really good as well! There were quite a few people there but the staff got everyone in the line through quickly so we didn't wait long. read more

Gelati Celesti has a great reputation and it lives up to it! It's an adorable ice cream spot. You can grab a cup or homemade cone and fill it up with any of their delicious flavors. My favorite is their Just Ask which is white chocolate ice cream, Oreos, and peanut butter. However, every single flavor I've tried is top notch. They also tend to to have new and specialty flavors. Keep an eye on their instagram to be updated with any new flavors and their availability. Once you decide on what scoops you want to try add some homemade hot fudge. You won't regret it! If you want a grab and go option, they have a freezer section full of their most popular flavors and other sweets. I also love coming with a group of friends and taking advantage of any of their high tables, tables, or booth options. There's even a few tables outside so you have enjoy your treat outside on a beautiful day. Additionally, the ice cream shop itself is super cute. Gelati Celesti is my absolute favorite ice cream joint in RVA! The ice cream texture is thick and creamy. My favorites are coconut, rum raisin and coffee. I used to frequent here when I lived in RVA. Now everytime I visit VA, I'd go to GC. I wish they offer out of state delivery. read more

We went here for dessert after dinner. It is in the back of a mall area so not easily seen. however, there is a lot of parking. THere is indoor and outdoor seating available. The staff were very friendly the night we were there! I had the wild cherry vanilla and it was excellent I am not usually a big fan of ice cream and gelato... but this was very good. read more

Another great Gelati Celesti location in RVA! This one is a little more hidden than some of the other locations around Richmond as it is tucked at the end of a strip mall across from Peking & Regal Cinemas off Broad Street & West End Dr. The service is usually speedy and friendly as the staff does their best to keep the line moving as this is a smaller location. There are a few tables inside as well as some bar top seating along the window, but there is a decent amount of tables on the covered patio right outside. We got to experience one of their top selling summer flavors, Jawsome, in celebration of Shark Week as it was topped with a gummy shark! Definitely a great summer treat! read more

I have been to the Gelati Celesti in Scott's Addition many times. This was my first visit at the West Broad St. location. I was impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. I instantly felt like. valued customer and they were excited to see me. It is hard to choose a flavor here. There are so many good ones! I wish they did sample flights of flavors - try a little of a lot of different flavors. I choose the birthday cake flavor because I love sprinkles. I wish they flavor had more sprinkles. I ordered a size small and it was the just enough. If you discover a flavor you really love I recommend purchasing a quart or pint of the flavor. It is a good value. It is always a joy and special treat here. I will continue to return. read more

I've been going to Gelati Celesti since I was a kid. Ice cream here is always creamy and satisfying! My favorite flavors are Just Ask and Rainbow Cookie. The Rainbow Cookie flavor is a tribute to the former Ukrop's rainbow cookies, and I'm so glad that Gelati Celesti can keep this nostalgic cookie alive! We all scream for ice cream! Gelati celesti never disappoints when it comes to satisfying your sweet tooth! For this time, I got the small (two scoops) of "strawberry shortcake" and "cookie dough" in a waffle cone -- fantastic. The cookie dough is a classic with mini chunks of cough inside of it. The strawberry shortcake was pretty much plain strawberry ice cream, but with a few chunks of shortcake crumbles. The staff was very friendly and kindly let us sample the new seasonal flavors (Key lime, Sicilian Pistachio, brown sundae, and red orange sorbetto) even with the line outside the door. There was an employee cleaning off all the tables to ensure ample seating for the new customers walking in the door. Mmmmm the best ice cream around Richmond! I love coming here as there are a variety of flavors sure to satiate any craving. The prices are more on the expensive side, but I believe you are delivered a hearty portion of ice cream for the money. The flavor combinations are classics with a twist, there's so many flavors to try. my favorite flavor is the "Just Ask" !!! You can order ice cream at the store and also buy prepackaged pints in the freezers. There is seating indoors and outdoors at this location. The staff were very friendly and expedient. There is plenty of parking as this location is on the corner of the strip behind the movie theatre. There are multiple locations of this chain and the quality of ice cream is uniform across the locations, so nothing disappoints! read more

Gelati Celesti is, hands down, the only ice cream shop I've visited since 2000-ish! Originally just a single location, it became a habit for both my parents to bring me here for their own craving and knew I'd love to go. Back when the free magazine Punchline! was out, it was loads of fun to read it's silly or funny articles--sometimes out loud--while enjoying one of a kind flavors that, if you want them? You HAVE to come here. No one sings at you when you tip; This is a BIG BONUS. Now you can get pints and milkshakes, but I urge you to get a *freshly made* waffle cone. While most cones suck, Geltai's waffle cones are SO GOOD. They don't get soggy but they still drip a bit out the bottom. So, yes, get napkins! I believe one location says open late (Or used to) by BowTie Cinema, which is a great business strategy, considering the late movie crowd let's put directly across the street. Super sweet treats & staff! I appreciated there was ample seating in the restaurant and the fact that they have a complimentary water station. I love this place! Because it was so hot out, I couldnt get ice cream off my mind..and I googled to see what was near me and this was the closest place. I hadnt tried them before but am so glad I have found them. I had no idea they were tucked away in this little shopping center. I chose a 3 scoop cup filled with a rainbow cookie, oreo and cream, and something with peanut butter cookie dough and caramel. All 3 flavors were delicious and hit the spot for me. I will go back for sure. My only issue with them was there were no dairy free ice cream flavors. The server was super nice and offered for me to sample and I did and it was what led to me having 3 scoops instead of 2 lol. read more

ABSOLUTELY love Gelati Celesti, especially this location since it has the best flavors! They always let you sample the flavors they have before you choose what to order so you can get the best possible combination. Also, they really give a lot of gelato for the amount you pay - the small looks very small, but actually contains a whole lot of gelato packed inside. I love the nutella flavor the most - it tastes like actual nutella with gelato texture and it is amazing. The location is so clean and the staff is really friendly, and I would definitely recommend coming by. read more

I have been to Gelati numerous times. I've never been disappointed. They have a lot of flavors to chose from. My personal favorite has always been the Honey and the Lavender. It's even better when you get two scoops and you get one honey and one lavender. The pair actually work really well together. These two flavors tend to be seasonal in my experience. Gelati Celesti is quite popular, while in Charlottesville speaking with a knife employee of a business they stated the only reason they come to Richmond is to come to Gelati Celesti! That is saying something. Great place and you won't be disappointed. read more

Nice modern look, very spacious if you have multiple kids. The ice cream is not heavy, definitely better than any store bought brand. The sizes are generous if you buy a cup. Medium cups are just the right amount of ice cream. If you buy a large, you can mix flavor as there are 4 scoops in this size. read more

My last Gelati Celesti review was in 2015? Man, time for an update! My husband and I LOVE this ice cream. We're obsessed with Just Ask and buy pints of it frequently. Most recently, I branched out and tried the butter pecan. I don't even like pecans on their own but ohhhhh my goodness. Are you kidding me? This blew me away. I ordered a small cup and devoured every morsel. I wanted to lick my bowl clean! Can't wait to go back and buy a pint of that. It had nuts in it, so that means that it's healthy, right? read more

The smell of the store is already so appetizing and deliciously sweet! The ice cream sandwiches are a must try. You can ask for any cookie with any scoop of ice cream you want making possible to have so many combinations. The taste is great but the creativity on flavors is a tad bit lacking. Excellent, Creamy Ice Cream I've been going here since the 90s, and I was born in 1996! For a place I've been going to for my entire life, one might assume I could be blinded by nostalgia. This is our go to gelato haven. Even if there's a line, it goes quick. Friendly staff always willing to give you a taste of the many varieties of gelato. The strawberry mint chip was a yummy flavor that they just added. Great combo! I also love their seasonal ginger snap, and pumpkin! But my fallback flavor is the mint chip. Lots of big pieces of chocolate. If you're in a hurry, see if your flavor is in the freezer case! Outdoor seating is nice in the summer. Indoors, at peak hours, when it's busy, they could pay better attention to the tables and floors. They can get sticky pretty quickly with all the turnover. Other than that, what's not to like? Gelati Celesti is hands down the best ice cream you will ever have. Period. End of story. My top favorite flavors are chocolate peanut butter, birthday cake, chocolate decadence, just ask, gingerbread cookie crunch... actually just all of them! You can't go wrong. The flavor "JUST ASK"!!!!! Words cant describe how the simple mixture of peanut butter, oreos and vanilla gelato can taste so freaking amazing!! The gelato is so creamy and it isnt overly sweet. Typically I can only eat a few bites of ice cream before I'm over it but I got myself a scoop of the "just ask" in their waffle cone which tasted delightful and I couldnt resist but to buy a quart of it and a couple of cones to take home. Put it this way, I've been to this new-to-me gelato shop twice in the span of two days. It's that good! The first time, I defaulted to my go-to flavor, amaretto. Perfection. Today, I branched out with a completely new and different type of flavor (for me), blueberry cheesecake. It was phenomenal, tasted like fresh berries with chunks of cheesecake throughout. The place is clean and the people behind the counter are nice. They'll let you sample as many flavors as you want to ensure you're making the best pick(s) for your palate. Warning, the Small size is bigger than you think it will be, with two fairly big scoops. It's a fun option as you can then get two flavors if you like. If you're not hungry enough for that, you can order a kid's size which is one scoop. They sell pre-packaged pints of gelato and gelato cakes to go.
