I like Gelson's here is a big choice of any kind of food also fresh deli. Stuff a little bit slow so 4 stars

They have the best orchids here. Love coming here and no longer go to Whole Foods . I can do all my groceries here .

It was my first time shopping a Gelson's and I was not too familiar with the locations of the products. Also I went at a time that wasn't too busy. The manager named Troy was helping me out but he was extremely rude, as I asked him for some help finding an item he said that I should use the sign to figure it out. Now of course I can use the signs but there is something called customer service which obviously this person knew nothing about. After he help find something he also made inappropriate comments saying "see it wasn't that hard finding it, next time use the signs." Now it's important to make note that this is at a time of COVID-19 and people that still have jobs are lucky as many people have been laid off. It seemed to be this person was definitely not happy working at Gelson's as a manager. I am sure there are many eager and qualified people that would love to take Troy's positions, and I know this because when I spoke to some of the other staff they where actually passionate and apologized on behalf of Troy on his horrible service. read more

Love this market and the pharmacy is the best in the area. Best personalized service and attention to detail. The entire pharmacy staff treats me like an old friend and I don't feel like a number as at CVS. I would not go anywhere else & highly recommend this pharmacy. read more

This is specifically a review for the new bakery. It is absolutely abysmal. Their foods are dry, tasteless, and stale. I genuinely appreciated the Gelson's Bakery and I'm concerned as to why it was dissolved. Could someone please shed light on this? Was it bad business? Just loved wine tasting with Jessica on Friday afternoon! She's a gal who really knows her stuff. We tasted the Tattinger Champagne, The Iron Horse, Merlot & Cabernet. Go here when they need to reduce product. If you go at the right time, they sell two for 1 or really discounted prices for product getting close to expiration. The market is great, but pricey. I go for the salads for work heavily discounted and they are the best you will have. Real chicken or turkey or whatever. Just go and check it out. The customer service is what keeps me coming to Gelsons. I have yet to encounter an employee that is not pleasant. They open a new register when there are more than 3 people waiting in line which is welcome change from the big chain grocery story a few blocks away. Their selection is not as deep in some areas but they have what I need. The meat is of high quality, a little more expensive sometimes but you get good quality for what you pay for. And there are other items that are the same price as other stores and some even less expensive. A lot of healthy options. Produce is fresh. Their flower options could be improved. Their prepared food is pricey though. I really enjoy shopping at Gelsons and they are my go to store. read more

First time ever going to Gelson's in PB. I wanted some fresh cod and called ahead to see if they had any, the person I spoke to in the meat department was so nice and helpful. I always have a wonderful experience at Gelson's. I usually don't feel compelled to leave reviews, but I wanted to acknowledge the great service I received. The bagger I had was FANTASTIC! His name was George, and he was a wonderful and thoughtful young man. He remembered me from a previous trip a couple of weeks ago, and asked about how I was doing, and recalled I am a teacher. He asked about my class and my experiences during this pandemic. As a teacher, and a mom of 4, George is the kind of young man we all hope our children grow up to become. I hope the ma age bet of Gelson's sees this and acknowledges and appreciates the hard worker they have! read more

I came here to get ice, which should have only taken 5 minutes max. However, although the store was clean and organized (what the 2 stars are for), their customer service was lacking. I asked one worker where I could find ice since it wasn't at the very front of the store where it usually is in a grocery store. He told me that it was at the front of the store..no description of where. So I went back to the front thinking maybe I just missed it but I couldn't find it. Then I went to the customer service desk and they were not friendly at all. I asked them where the ice was and they just pointed to it. I used to work at a Vons and I was taught to offer a customer help and even to offer to take the customer to the item. These people definitely did not have good customer service. read more

I was laid off from Haggens and I had to leave Albertsons because the Albertsons store that I was working for turned into Haggens. My wife and I drove from FAR away to come here. When we lived in LA, we had a Gelsons every few miles. Not many of them in San Diego. My wife was craving food from the hot bar and I was dying for the salad bar and Wolfgang Puck. Checked what time they close- 10pm. Wonderful. We leave our place at 7:30 and get there at 8:05, plenty of time to spare. We walk in to the ultimate disappointment... The hot bar, the sushi bar, the salad bar, the Wolfgang Puck, and everything else that offered fresh food is CLOSED. The only thing open was the grocery store. We asked the guy cleaning the hot bar and he tells us that everything closes at 7:30. Seriously, 7:30?! WTF!! I have NEVER been to a Gelsons that closes down all it's fresh food departments before the grocery store closes, let alone so early! People still eat dinner at 7:30 you know! So beyond disappointed. Will never come back and I recommend others avoid unless your are just grocery shopping. read more

I stop by Gelsons at least five times a week to order sandwiches or chicken salad from the deli or pick up trays of goodies for my trunk shows at my store located in the same shopping center. They have the friendliest service, best deli in town, and some great values on their products. The store is neatly organized and clean as a whistle. I love their daily fresh soups, salad bar, and all kinds of delicious hot dishes to choose from. They do have value pricing on many of their items so go in and shop today. You will not be disappointed. They have a great team of employees that take pride in their work. read more

You know you're getting old when you get excited about a brand new supermarket! Went to check out the grand opening party today and it was packed! They even ran out of grocery carts. Food samples galore and not just cheese...I sampled mussels, oysters, fried chicken, shrimp, prime rib just to name a few! They let you pretty much sample anything you wanted from the deli case! The inside is open, bright, clean and really inviting. Pricing today was great as they want to draw in the crowds but I'm sure it will be equivalent to whole foods prices once the newness wears off. It was fun just browsing around and I picked up my favorite apples here on sale for only $1.99lb which was a great deal! Try the Envy apples and I guaranteed you'll be hooked! Check out was pretty slow but they did give out very cool Del mar Gelsons reusable totes and a free loaf of bread! I also had a $5off coupon woohoo! Welcome to the hood! read more

Very nice. Too expensive. For the affluent shopper who cares nothing about price..........there is a Whole Foods right across the street. This place has failed to learn the lesson of Haggens and I predict they will head exactly the same way. I really don't understand the rationale behind doing the exact same thing that killed off Haggens, coming in pitching high quality and high prices to somewhere that has that demographic well catered for. Maybe the deli and produce is the highest quality ($5 for two avocados.....)but the exact same brand items elsewhere in the store can be purchased at Vons/Ralphs/Albertsons/Stater Bros/Smart Final for considerably less; so why would I come here? One Yelp reviewer has already done the math @ 36% higher prices ($10 for orange juice......). Having had a browse and checked out all the prices I'd say he's about right, slightly less than Haggens were charging, considerably more than everywhere else; I won't be back. read more

I was really excited to see Gelson's taking over the store where Albertson used to be. I like the market when I lived in Santa Barbara. It is always nice to have a higher-end grocery store near by where you can purchase more exotic groceries and ingredients. But this store is just plain expensive and has nothing else to offer. Gelson's Market is truly a "shopping" experience. Such quality produce and their deli is outstanding!!!! Their meat Dept is nothing but quality from one case to the next not to mention the selection they have in their fish department. They by far have everything in one grocery store and would only need 1 trip. I used to travel from San Diego to Dana Point and now we will have this incredible market in our own backyard. If your looking for quality, selection, and service you've come to the right place. Enjoy this store because there is NOT another one like it. read more

Disappointed to say the least. It's Fathers Day. We called and asked for our lobster to be cooked, cracked and split. When we served them and they were not cracked, split and they were barely cooked. We are not snobs. We are a lobster raised family. We understand mistakes happen and we work with it. In this case, we expected more considering it's premium prices. Unacceptable. read more

Wow, nice to have this market in the neighborhood. Extensive selection on the hot & cold salad bar as well as hot soup selection. Top quality meats and seafood- did you see the jumbo scallops and shrimp - YUM! Deli case loaded with selections, the crab cakes my favorite. I found some good deals. Jeni's is a dollar cheaper here than other stores and Rao's pasta sauce was on sale for 5.99. Lot's of ice cream choices. I like the selection of bread. Seems like there's plenty of beer as well. Kinda lacking in the hard liquor, guess I might not of looked there though. read more

I was really surprised to see any good reviews of this place - seriously. With all the hype I was expecting a better version of Whole Foods, but this store is really disappointing. First of all, there isn't a great selection of organic foods. I'd say it's slightly better than Von's - but not much. Also,the organic foods that they do have are MORE expensive that Whole Foods and other stores, by quite a bit. For instance, organic chicken is 10.99/lb at Gelson's, when I can get it for 6.99/lb at Trader Joes or Whole Foods. Also, the organic produce area is tiny (smaller than Albertson's!) and the prices are higher than other stores- not to mention the quality is very average. They also had only 1 or 2 organic Greek yogurts, while Whole Foods has at least a dozen. The other thing that floors me about this place is the decor- or lack thereof. It looks like a gutted Albertson's - probably because that's what it is. Truly- there is zero ambiance- just signage and racks and glaring fluorescent lights that make you feel like your going to be interrogated at any moment. They've been open for months and it still looks the exact same. I asked the cashier about it and she said she hadn't heard of any plans to "update" the place. Although decor/ambiance isn't first on my list for a grocery store, when I'm paying these prices I expect a pleasant atmosphere....like Whole Foods across the street...or even Von's around the corner makes a good effort. The one thing I do like about Gelson's is the sandwich counter and the pre-made salads/dishes. They have a decent selection and the quality is good. This store also has some of the nicest employees, as everyone is very helpful and says hello when they walk by. However, for the price, selection and the "ghetto" decor I won't be back. read more

Very nice store - clean, lots of employees, high class merchandise. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because it's insanely expensive. I'm a fan of nice stores but generally don't want to feel stupid paying more for something here than I would elsewhere unless I'm really in a hurry. Always check expiration dates because I don't think merchandise moves as fast here. If I'm going to overpay I prefer Cardiff Market - nicer selection of pre-made foods there. read more

I enjoy this market to a point...closest to me over Vons. However, No one seems to want to assist me, but was happily surprised to have bakery gentleman on Easter Weekend to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable...otherwise, cashiers, manager could care less. The wine sommelier is always great when he's present. Not sure how this store is surviving...went to UCLA in the 80's and shopped here occasionally and they were amazing! Not so sure about now and in the Del Mar location-complacent and unaware are what come to mind...The checkers are the worst and don't remember regular guests and act like they are doing a favor when checking you out. They act like they are robots and are completely disengaged. Too pricey to justify! read more

Bakery.....5 stars!!! We ordered 6 dozen cupcakes for my two boys sport themed bday party. I wish i took a picture....the baker decorated each cupcake with a different sports ball....they were perfect and actually a fraction of the cost of specialty cupcake stores.....and delicious! Also their pre made tuna tartar, ceviche and potato salad are excellent. Youll pay restaurant prices...but more than worth it! Very friendly service...so if you want the going above and beyond.....they got it there! read more
