I have been visiting this Gelson's off and on for the past 3 years as I've occasionally been doing some work in the area. The store is very organized, well-stocked, and clean. While prices lean towards the higher side, they carry many products and brands that you can't find elsewhere. I come for specific things they carry like gigantic crunchy Peruvian corn snacks, Mighty Leaf tea, and a brand of lactose-free yogurt my wife loves. They also have a great variety of cheeses in their deli area that I often peruse and their wine selection is great. They don't have self-checkout so you need to go through a checkstand. Every time I've gone they're understaffed, so there's always a long wait in line where I've been checked out by glowering employees. I will say I was surprised on my most recent visit to be checked out by a smiling, energetic woman, which was a refreshing change.

Are you ready to trade about 20-30% higher prices for convenience? Then, Gelson's is for you! The hot bar, poké bar, floral market, deli, patisserie, olive oil bar, etc. are all great, and full of fun, tasty options for you to get a quick meal, or stock up for a picnic or event. They even have an actual bar if you want to toss a couple back before you shop for the bougie essentials! The service is always efficient, friendly, and helpful (especially the pizza guy! He's great!), and the store itself is clean and well-stocked. However, it's always WAY more expensive than other markets. What you're paying for is the convenience of its location (I live relatively close and it's on the way home), and the ability to buy "regular" stuff, as well as fun/convenient items. Overall, a nice place to shop.

Definitely a great high end market with great cooked foods, salads, and bakery. Fresh vegetables, meats and seafoods. Plenty of choices of high end or Gelson branch name. Big parking lot and with outdoor and balcony overlook the harbor view. Store is well keep and well organized with friendly staff. Bright and homey feeling upon walking. Fresh flower, great smell of good baked just make you want to buy more stuffs then you support to. As for the prices, well they are on the high end so if you're on budget, look at the prices first. Great place, great quality, great staff and plenty of great choices to shop.

    Hatch chile fest

Drove by Saturday morning and to my surprise there was an event happening right before my eyes. It was Gelson's "Catch the Hatch" sale for their hatch pepper/hatch chiles. From 8am-2pm, a small collection of tents were set up offering freshly roasted hatch peppers ranging from mild to very hot. After the peppers get scorched, they are then filled into plastic bags to steam up and subsequently sold in cardboard boxes. A DJ was spinning 80s pop music while a light rain droplets were falling on a cloudy day. The smells were alluring and inviting in part coming off of their grill. Hamburgers patties and sausages mixing in the mild variety hatch pepper and cheese were being made fresh. I tried their hamburger, a whopping juicy chunk of meat with lettuce and tomatoes. As far as breakfast goes, it was kinda unusual but no doubt a memorable one. In addition, other food businesses brought samples of snacks, drinks, and even ice cream into the fold. Had no idea Gelson's had these types of events, but now I'll keep an eye out for others.

What better food place can you go to on a Friday night than the grocery store! Their shareable menu is good to share or if you are dining solo. The gentleman that takes care of the wine bar knows his crowd and gives the whole place a homey type feeling even though it's sitting in the corner of the grocery store deli. My usual order is the steak frites at a whopping $13!!! Who can beat quality steak frites at $13?!

Clean store full of quality products. They have their own private lot, no street parking. The employees are extremely nice, professional, and charming. Here you can find items that are not available at other markets.

I come here looking for specific things like natural maple syrup and high quality flour. I tend to not get fruits and I tend to find more items here from small businesses than brand name spots, so I'll sporadically find things here to impulse buy. They also have lots of prepared self-service hot foods and a poke bar if you want a meal to go. My favorite thing here are their fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, priced at $3.75. They sell so many of them, that they're constantly putting out fresh batches. I've come in four times this year for it and it's been hot and fresh every time! I find that outstanding as I've been to stand alone bakeries with cookies that weren't as fresh as they are here. The cookie is massive and has high quality ingredients you can taste. I've had issues with the fresh cheese cut in-store, which unfortunately tasted off and had a strong ammonia-like flavor. I will be returning it tomorrow for a refund. This experience has put me off buying their fresh cheeses going forward. I'm also not particularly impressed with the pre-cooked deli selection. There are frequent things that make me hesitate to purchase, such as a recent fish dish that was heavily overdone with capers to the point it felt unbalanced. That said, I do still come in occasionally because they carry some hard-to-find items. I've found excellent coffee here, and I've enjoyed their crab cakes. Customer service has also been very mixed. I had a particularly unpleasant experience with a cashier who had a poor attitude when I was overcharged for an item that was marked differently on the shelf than what I was charged. I went back to show the original price tag, even retrieving the torn portion to demonstrate it matched. Despite this, I was treated as if I might be trying to manipulate the price over a difference of about two dollars. There was no apology, just a dismissive and rude demeanor. The correction was eventually made, but it was handled awkwardly, and I was handed multiple receipts while my original receipt for other purchases was not returned. I left feeling frustrated and disappointed, not because of the pricing issue itself, but because of how it was handled. Overall, I still stop in for a few specialty items, but my confidence in consistency and customer service has definitely been affected. The ambiance of the store is nice. The parking lot it can often be a nightmare.

The majority of the staff I have encountered--outside of one kind gentleman who is technically a third-party representative and not directly employed by the Aldi brand--have been truly unprofessional. Although there is no excuse for this behavior, it does not appear to stem from dissatisfaction with their jobs. In fact, many of the employees seem content. Rather, it is the attitude and manner in which certain clientele are treated that comes across as distasteful and disrespectful. On multiple occasions, I have witnessed and experienced childish tactics from employees. This has included making comments such as, "You better move out of the way," as customers are navigating the aisles. There have also been instances where employees appeared to aggressively toss or move boxes directly beside customers as they were attempting to pass by. While I understand that inventory stocking occurs throughout the day, there are professional standards and common courtesy practices that should be maintained during business hours. From time to time, there are also aggressive customers who behave as though they are entitled to bully others simply because they believe they can. Example: The cart return area has three lines for customers to choose from. On one of these occasions, I was placing my cart back and gathering my groceries when, out of nowhere, I saw another customer mad-dashing toward where I was standing. She then aggressively started yelling, name-calling, shouting, and scoffing in the most unladylike fashion. She gestured that she needed to return her cart; mind you, there were two or three other lanes that were open and available. Yet, she was insistent upon badgering me to drop everything I was doing during my grocery experience to appease her ill repute. Absolutely not. I am unsure whether she may have been attempting to scam me, as she was desperately trying to get me to leave my fully loaded shopping cart unattended, exposing my wallet and groceries. The security who had been on duty and watching the incident did nothing to prevent further harassment. Noting, a continuation of "selective" targeting and job performance. I've also noticed that some of the security will abandon their position to go stand in certain areas of the store and touch store product. I found this odd as I do not see how that is conducive to their "supposed" role of providing safety. Unfortunately, the negative attitudes displayed by some employees seem to mirror this same energy, creating an unnecessarily uncomfortable shopping environment. Nonetheless, I genuinely enjoy the Aldi brand and appreciate the products they offer. For that reason, I will likely continue shopping at this location. However, it would be in Aldi's best interest to address the conduct of some of the individuals representing the business. Improved professionalism, stronger customer service standards, and greater accountability would significantly enhance the overall shopping experience.
