if there was no stars, i'll give it no stars, especially this visit. first off, right when i came in, the older lady and the boy that has a high pitch voice not once greeted me. but the on after was very well greeted. what's going with that. i feel, i know i'm right, your employees have some bring against me. can you ask then what it is!?!?!?! they seem to always have an attitude. especially the boy has the high pitch voice, when he happens to get me. i would let have to describe your employees if you actually read your comments, it's been said a couple of times for name tags i know, i read the comments. what really pissed me off and why i'm writing this comment is. please, the owner of gemma's, please really do something to your employees of customer service. it's sad that the 2 younger ones have better way better customer service. they don't pick and choose who to greet. no matter how busy they are, they always greet. says a lot. while i was walking out the door, the older lady said, something not underneath her breath but loud enough i heard it and i came back. she walked away right away!! the boy with the high pitch voice i know he heard it. they were standing very close to each other. please tell, the lady next time, she is frustrated with me for what ever reason n has the nerves to talk such nasty things, say it when i'm completely out the door. If she's telling you no she didn't. If you have a audio inside, please go thru it n hear. She said something about my mom, really talkin shit about my mom. My mom, wasn't with me. High pitch boy was right there, I know he heard it. For her to say such things about a parent. How insensitive it is knowing that her dad had pass away. Owner, when you see me. i'm sure your employees will point me out to you. please let me know how you handled the problem. I love this place, not only because it's closer to home (I frequent restaurants in Cerritos) but also because of the quality of food they offer and the smiling faces. There's this one server I particularly like, wish I know her name, she always acknowledges my presence (calls me Ate). We call in orders for pancit bihon for work meetings/parties. My co-workers like the simplicity of their pancit bihon (no chinese sausage nor fishballs). As for me, I come here for breakfast (fried rice, fried bangus, silverfish omelette, sausage, tocino) and my lunch favorite is the fish sinigang. Their food is never lacking of flavor. Of course I never leave without my usual side orders: turon, empanada and a bag of pandesal for my breakfast at work. :) read more

I've gotten nearly everything here from freshly baked pan de sal in the morning to their lumpiang sariwa. Was visiting my sister-in-law in Long Beach and wanted to pick up some goodies. Found this place through yelp and thought I'd give it a try. Boy, was I underwhelmed. By far the worst filipino bakery I've ever been too. Picked up an egg pie and some bibingka. Egg pie was average, nothing exceptional about it. But the bibingka, oh the bibingka - HORRIBLE! The ingredients stated it had salted egg in it but in the entire bibingka there was the tiniest sliver of salted egg. The bibingka I make out of the box is 10x better than this place. Ordered a tray of 50 lumpia bc I was so excited to find that there was a bakery selling them near my house. I was extremely disappointed. They were soggy and bland. Total lack of flavor. I stopped in for a quick snack. Ive came here before for goto. It was great. You cant really mess that up. But i had some Balut which i love. I'm not even Filipino. haah. But at 1.25 its alright price. Tambuli is $1 and its half the size of the ones here. With the Goto and Balut in hand, i will come back anytime i am in the area. Saw the article in Long Beach Post and had to try it. What a great experience. Was waited on by owner Prescilla, who was kind enough to explain ingredients and offer tastes of the food items in the hot trays, as well as help me choose a dessert: to die-for sans rival, a cake with cashews, buttercream, and meringue. Bought a package of Star Bread from Gemmae's sold by my local Filipino market in Santa Maria, CA. My local market makes trips down south to purchase bakery items, vegetables, etc., from other stores to sell since my area is severely lacking in any Filipino markets/bakeries found in more metropolitan areas. Every roll in the package was under baked and contained a large blob of raw dough. Very disappointing and I'll be returning them to my local store so that they may reconsider offering Gemmae items in their store. read more

Wonderful little Filipino shop! Food is authentic, delicious and service is acceptable. Parking and service give it a 4/5 instead of 5/5.

Every single cake til about the fifth grade my mom would get from here. Their ube (taro) cake was so good and moist and PURPLE, my favorite color. Ahh how i miss being young and eating Ube cake from Gemmaes. This is a small filipino bakery that has good treats like macaroons, cookies, ensaymada and those rolls with the butter and sugar on top in a circular foil pan. read more

This is not some flashy bakery like Sprinkles. It's a down home Pilipino place that's about the people and the food. It's in a tiny strip mall where some of the locals hang out. You can get the fast food in the heated serving bins, but the real reason to go is the bakery. The little cream cakes (choco cream and ube cream) are good. The mamon is really good at this place too; if you're going to get only one thing, that might as well be it. Somehow they make their cakes really moist without having them fall apart. It was a hot day in Long Beach. It was one of those days where you didn't want to go outside to check your mail because it was that hot. Knowing it was that hot, I assumed it was best that I go for a run. I was a fool to think that. Luckily, I came by Gemmae's bakery. First off, they noticed that I looked like hell and was probably going to pass out, so they immediately offered me water. While the water was nothing special, they get five stars for not waiting for me to ask. In fact, they even added ice to the water so that it would even more refreshing. After a few minutes, I was able to regain some consciousness and realized I wanted something cold to help beat the heat. Seeing Gemmae's is a Filipino bakery, there was halo-halo on the menu--no hesitation when it was ordered. My god, it was glorious. And it wasn't just because I was having an ice based dessert on a horribly hot and humid day. It was glorious because it was delicious. The ratio of red beans, coconut jelly, corn, and all the other ingredients were perfectly balanced--not too much ice either. Topping it all off was a fat scoop of ube ice cream that, when bit into, brought me back to my trip the Philippines when it was horribly hot and humid and I was feasting on halo-halo. After it was all said and done. I demolished that serving of halo-halo and immediately felt like I can take on the day. I couldn't. I called an Uber, ordered another halo-halo to go, and took off into the sunset. That wonderful experience alone will be what brings me back. Five stars all around. read more

My go to for, I know it's a bakery, but they have the best Lumpia! And their lechon paksiw is delicious, best around.

I go here just for their halo halo and ensaymadas. Their halo halo is really good! And they put a lot, like a lot of leche flan and ube.

Food is mediocre at best! Only when I am desperate for Filipino food that I go here. Servers are not friendly, they look like they hate doing what their job. And watch out , always ask for your receipt, they cheat! There's always additional dollar here and there that somehow added to the price that was advertised! Starting off with the good: the Lumpia was delicious!! So addicting. Really enjoyed it. However, I walked in and ordered a 25 count and was told 15 minutes, I waited somewhere between 30-40 minutes for my order!!!! And no one bothered to give me an update on why it was taking so long or anything. I didn't understand what was being said between the cook and the cashier that took my order but I was able to decipher that she told him I was waiting for my order and this was probably at the 15 minute point. No cool!! Especially when I still had a 50 minute commute ahead of me. Also, I noticed customers would come in and there was hardly an sense of urgency by the staff to greet or help those that came in unless it was someone they seemed to know. I'd probably come again, but I'd order ahead. I also bought some mamon (sp?) but the egg flavor was too overpowering. I have purchased some before at Goldilocks and loved them there, but I really wasn't a fan of the ones here. read more
