The brisket was the thickest cut of brisket I've ever had at a K-BBQ spot, tough and unappetizing. The glabi on the other hand was the thinnest I've ever had too. Not big on giving one star ratings but this location specifically needs an overhaul with customer service. We were seated quickly as it was not really busy (about 6-7 tables). Once seated, waitstaff passed by us a total of 4 times over 8 minutes and not once took our drink or food order until we called for one. From there, it was a nonstop waiting game and fight to get anyone's attention to serve and help us. Every time we tried to get anyone's attention they would either forget what we asked for or just keep walking. It was such an unenjoyable experience that all we wanted to do was leave. At one point, our grill was dirty and so burnt from waiting and leaving it empty just burning without food that it actually caught fire with flames coming up and I tried to lower the flame. Waitstaff walked by and didn't even do anything until we got their attention to please change it, "oh wow" is what was said when they saw the empty grill on fire. Even when we asked for the check we wait and after giving our card we waited over 12 min for someone to return. Mind you, it was not busy. Food was okay, we basically had to ask three times for any sauces and most of the meat was so fatty that it was inedible. Ambience was normal Gen ambiance but cleanness could be better. My husband and I came for our anniversary dinner and had such an amazing experience tonight. We've been here countless times and this was definitely the best experience. The quality has been going down with every time we visit this place. The appetizer plates are so small and literally almost empty, I had to ask for another one and it came with slightly more but still a shock that basic kimchi appetizers are being given in bites. The servers were all extremely busy but they seem to be understaffed, our food takes so long in between each order and we never got what we asked for on time. The grill burned and the stove wasn't working, it was empty and we asked to change seats but were told it's okay it works but the fire kept going out. I hadn't been here in a while mostly because my past visits were disappointing. We're talking long waits and subpar service. BUT I was having a major craving moment for their beef belly so I decided to lower my expectations and arm myself with extra patience. I thought I was prepared for a long dinner but boy oh boy, this place really tested my limits. First off, only two waiters on a packed Sunday night? Seriously? Shame on management for the massive understaffing. I felt bad for them but at the same time I was hangry and losing it. Food took forever to arrive, and I had to ask for water six times (like, are we playing a hydration game or something?) And don't even get me started on the ventilation. 1 star for this place is generous. What was supposed to be an anniversary celebration turned into us walking out due to the lack of service and overall acknowledgement. Went all the way to the top and walked back and my parents were still waiting to be greeted! Another family was also waiting and the father went to get someone to assist for seating. Bad way to start a restaurant visit. Still took another 5 minutes or more before we were seated and the other family at least another few minutes after us, unacceptable without an apology for the wait. Look at all the similar comments on the reviews for this Gen location. It's just the way they run their restaurant. I tried to call to speak to a manager about our experience, and no one answers and you can't leave a message. We sat for so long without anyone greeting us that we actually decided to get up and leave. Went to the Greek restaurant across the street and had great food and great service. We came here because it's centrally located between Pasadena and North Hollywood but I don't recommend. The best thing is that there is a parking garage next door. This is our go to place when we get to host friends who come to visit for the first time. First, service is really fast specially if you book by way of yelp or open table. Seating is a plenty and the servers are on point. Ambiance is warm, cozy and trendy. They have a different sets of menu for lunch, dinner or premium menu. I think the price point of the lunch menu is very reasonable and has a very good selection of good meat and noodles and appetizers. If you like the experience of cooking and eating , then this is for you. However, if you don't like the smell of food clinging to your hair and clothes then maybe you can try the Ala carte. Actually I love Korean bbq and this time we decided to visit gen with my family. Manager was very rude when we asked to change our table because the sun was shining right on us. The manager refused to do it referring they have only one waiter. It was around 3 o clock Friday. The service was terrible. I asked for extra chopsticks and forks a few times. We waited for them more than 10-15 minutes. We waited for each kind of meat around 10-15 min. I asked for desserts a few times. They even didn't offer knifes or scissors.
