Octopus was... an interesting situation. I got takeout because I was heading to a bar nearby and desperately needed sushi. I ordered the Kara Roll, salmon belly sushi, and chicken karaage. The Kara Roll is basically a volcano roll, but the portion was noticeably bigger than what I've gotten at other places around here, and I was honestly just happy it wasn't over $20 like most sushi spots. Flavor-wise, it was pretty good, though there was definitely more rice than salmon. Not a dealbreaker. The salmon belly sushi was mid-tier quality, but that's not shocking. I've been to a lot of sushi spots, so my standards are a little high. Still solid for the price. I got the chicken karaage during happy hour and it was very affordable. The only downside was that the chicken was a bit sweet, which just isn't my preference. Overall, as a takeout option, this place is fine. I almost ate the whole plate, I had their seared tuna carpaccio-it was good just wished it had it little more sauce for flavoring, the tuna was tender just don't like when I get connective tissue bites. It's chewy and stringy- not much of it but it was there. The side salad was good but dressing was a bit watery, and lastly the sushi rolls were huge! We got the all you can eat, I found myself full with the rolls that we shared! I also ordered their pomegranate sake, which sounded good in theory in my head, so when I asked our server, she immediately said, I got you! I can make it cold! I had stars in my eyes for her. She was awesome I regret not asking for her name, she was the eldest in the restaurant if this helps. The good thing was that they had a Reverse Happy Hour...Basically their regular happy hour menu but from 8 pm to closing. The service was quick and very friendly. The chicken karaage was probably some of the best I've had in a long time. They marinated the chicken for a long time and the crunchy breading was excellent. The tofu salad had a touch too much dressing but still really good. Bake mussels and baked Alaskan roll were really, really good as well. Lastly, the salmon collar was big and meaty. I think the reverse Happy Hour was great and we probably won't visit outside of Happy Hour dining. There were a lot to choose from starters to regular rolls to premium rolls. We moved away and came back to visit in the area and decided to order take out which we hadn't been here in a while. Jack of all trades, master of none. This is a Japanese restaurant that offers sushi, bento boxes, izakaya (tapas), ramen, and yakisoba. If they did any of them well, it wouldn't be so terrible. Some are passable--the izakaya and the bento that we tried were okay. The noodles here are not great, and the sushi was bordering on terrible. I'm not a sushi snob--it has to be pretty bad for me to not like it. And at first I thought: this is serviceable sushi. But the more of it I tried, the more it just seemed like a chore to eat. Eventually I gave up trying to enjoy it. I got sick afterwards. So did someone else in our party who ate more or less the same stuff I did: mostly sushi. We came here because we were trying to please everyone: not everyone wanted sushi or bento or whatever, but everybody was okay with some type of Japanese food. I came in with average expectations since I was just casually searching for food in the area, but I was pleasantly surprised! During happy hour (3-6pm Mon-Sat), the prices are great for sizeable portions of sushi! The party cocktails are also delicious and come with a fun light up ice cube, coming in at a bit under $15 for 5-6 servings. The rolls we got were about $11-12. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere inside was a bit like a sports bar with the purple lighting and TV screens throughout. It's not the best quality sushi I've ever had, but it's still good, with solid thick pieces of fish, and it's definitely worth it during happy hour!
