We were seated and the waitress took about 10 minutes to come around with coffee and take our orders. The menu is very straightforward, but note that there are no separate checks, and you need to give cash or card only, no combination. They take Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and American Express. Also, there are no substitutes available for food. They have discounts available for military and police. In general, the food was good. We all got omlettes and they have a nice variety of options. I feel like there are lots of better places for breakfast in OC that go above and beyond though. We weren't too impressed with the prices. My friends and I wanted to grab brunch before heading out of Ocean City. A lot of places have not opened yet near the beachfront, but I found this place. It's a diner style. The decor is cool. The waitress was super friendly. I got chipped beef omelette, and my friends got a burger and chopped sirloin steak with 2 eggs. The chipped beef omelette was delicious. The burger patty was juicy. Very disappointed. The "General" who seats everyone borders on being kind of rude. Three orders of chipped beef. Would be great if they put chipped beef in the gravy. One ordered over biscuit but came over white bread and biscuit on the side. Second order was sent back because it had the limpest pieces of toast....was brought back only slightly toasted. Third order was sent back twice because the bread was not toasted. When I received the third time the toast was burnt and the burnt side was turned face down. Did not know until I tasted the burnt toast. Why put two pieces of toast with the gravy on top. Why not put slice of toast then gravy then second piece of toast and then top it off. We went to Generals Kitchen for the first time and it was so good that we went back two more times while we were in ocean city. We went around 8am on Tuesday Thursday and Friday so it wasn't busy at that time. The service was good, food came out quickly and everything was delicious. The hash browns are great, pancakes are good and my husband had the poached eggs which were very good. If you haven't tried it yet, you should definitely check it out. You won't be disappointed. The food was reasonable and good. Like a good home cooked breakfast. However, the service in this place was terrible. My husband and I walked in on a quiet Monday morning and it was pretty slow. There were about 5-6 people on staff who just turned to look at us and then turned right back around going about their phones or own breakfast. Decent breakfast food. If you like cream chipped beef, it is what they are known for, and everybody I've been with who likes it ends up loving their take on it. I, personally, do not like CCB, so I opted for some hotcakes, and they were also good. They were soft and fluffy, and they absorbed the syrup and butter just right. The orange juice I had with my breakfast was good...and really the sausage can't be beat - HUGE links of sausage as a side. The one drawback is that this place doesn't have any free refills, even on soda...that's so...behind the times. Service was good, though - our waiter took care of us quite well. One party outside had a small child and it was really hot and humid, the mother asked the host if they can stand inside , but the host was firm on making everyone stand outside. No hello or smile just told us to turn around and wait outside. Just need to train their employees better or have better organization. Other then that the food was great which was why the 4 star. Last breakfast stop after a week's stay in Ocean City. Wow, we should've gone to McDonald's instead. Heck, even a gas station would've had tastier food. I'm not a "local", so creamed chipped beef and scrapple aren't my idea of delicious breakfast food, but I did see Country Fried Steak on their menu, and being from the land of CFS (Oklahoma), I thought that might be a good choice. Wrong. What I got instead was a tiny slab of previously frozen, pre-processed, mystery meat, that tasted like it had been deep fried in old oil that's usually used for fried fish. Disgusting. If you're crazy enough to order it, please google an Okie or Texas CFS first, so you know what it's supposed to look like. At least you can't mess up hash browns and fried eggs, right? Wrong again. Both were the same color of brownish yellow, with zero crispness on my potatoes. $70+ dollars for our family of 5. Next time I'll listen to the kids and stop at McDonald's. read more

Worst experience ever in OCMD! Food was nothing special but not cheap. What really made this vist horrible was the staff, from the under aged boys sitting at the bar practically on top of me while waiting to clean a table to the suck ass manager who doesn't give a rats ass about his staff or unhappy customers. This place lived of a reputations that's been dead a long time. And listen I understand help problems but it goes beyond that. Walk in stand at entrance and no one comes. Okay see 2 people seated at bar, I'll go there. Takes 5 minutes and someone shows up and takes the order from the 2 people already seated. Walks past me doesn't speak. Puts their order in, okay I understand. At this point a couple sits close to me. The server brings the 1st peoples drinks, walks past me and starts to ask the people that just sat what they want. I speak up. I'm not in a big hurry but now I've been there 15 minutes. He takes my order. Food is another issue. Got the creamed chipped beef, should call it cream. Barely any beef. Small specks. They stacked the toast on top of each other, small amount of cream and when I moved the top piece of bread now we have the 2nd piece with no sauce. Bland, potatoes bland and that is all I can say. tToast in west OC has much better creamed chipped beef and better service. Will never be back. Disappointed and disgusted are the only verbs that comes to mind. I was ready for a decent breakfast. General is the closet breakfast spot near my hotel. It was around 8am, and the parking lot was empty, so I guess I should have known what the outcome would be. A sour smell greeted me at the front door, like an old mop that has been sitting for days, or a back up in the kitchen sink with food and oil. It totally turned me off, but I stayed because my date didn't mention anything. I ordered a BLT with homefries, thinking I was playing it safe. The homefries looked as though they sat in oil for over a day, and were burnt and oily. I immediately sent them back, the bacon on the BLT also had the taste of yesterday, Rubbery, and not crispy. The waitress was a little aggressive asking us every two minutes were we ready to order, and then if there was anything else we wanted. When we arrived people were outside, I went in and they were seating a large party, they got to me and I said two people, I was advised 10 minutes, the people behind me said 10 people. We were told due to COVID restrictions we had to wait outside, I asked to leave my name and was told no, I'll remember, two people. We waited outside for 20 minutes while large groups who finished were leaving, finally the same man came out and took the group of ten who were behind me. They did not want to serve us because my husband, who has medical issues and is 82, cannot wear mask. The owner said he doesn't not want to be fined. I said the violations against ADA and HIPPA are probably more money. I explained it was medical and the owner asked for a written medical exemption!!! I said that is against ADA and HIPPA and said he is quite aware of ADA because they installed a ramp??? My husband went back to car and got mask to walk to table. Upon leaving, same man, supposedly the owner, handed me a piece of paper with the name of a health dept. person and then explained health dept said you can wear a shield instead of a mask. I told him my main issue was that you stated you require a written medical exemption which is against the law. He didn't want to address that. But, food was good. The General's Kitchen was never a destination for those seeking haute cuisine, and that was just fine with the legions of admirers who lined up at the Generals door every morning throughout the season and even when the weather turned cold. The General's served good basic fare in its old location in the Beachmark Hotel for so many years that it is pointless to count. When the Beachmark canceled their lease last year it was a statewide scandal. This year The General's opened its doors in its new location under the Skybar at 66th on Ocean Highway. While some things have changed (there is a new Siracha omelette and fruit toppings for the pancakes), what you loved about the General's has stayed the same. The old location boasted decor that had not changed since the era of disco, and that, combined with walls covered in baseball caps, gave the place a unique funky feel. In moving into the new location (which seems to have had an outer space theme) the ownership decided not to change what was there; rather, they simply layered the hats and the the cherished 9/11 tribute to the new walls, creating a whole new kind of funky. The food remains exactly what it has always been and what you come to the General's to get - creamed chipped beef, basic breakfast food and simple lunch fare. On our recent visit my corned beef hash was suitably hashy and bereft of any needless foodie frippery. My wife's eggs came with a veritable mountain of crispy bacon, and our toast and grits were exactly as anticipated. Our waitress was efficient and courteous and kept my coffee cup filled. She was open and friendly without wasting time. And while this really should not be important, she spoke with English with a local accent. While legal immigration is a wonderful thing, it has made me sad that it seems like fewer and fewer of the service jobs in OC are being filled by local folks. Gone are the days when local residents and college kids on break worked the summers away in the OC's restaurants. Its nice that the General's harkens back to those times. read more

Just an updated review since the move - it is wholly BIZARRE to be in this place in the setting of the old Galaxy 66. I'm sure everyone is reporting that. Menu same, quality same, service same, staff largely the same just a weird ambiance that is not what it has been the last 34 years. I don't care for chipped beef myself oddly so I get the corned beef hash and eggs every time. It's great as always and my eggs are perfectly poached light like I like them. Service is fabulous as always. They plan to down-date the decor to more suitable surroundings this year - be interesting to see how they pull that off. The best news - it seats dozens more tables than the old location and it's a bit closer at 66th instead of 75th. I'm told there are still lines out the door. We went to General's Kitchen with a Restaurant.com certificate - which made it a very good deal for the 4 of us. It has been years since we visited Ocean City, and we always liked going to General's Kitchen. We thought we had timed it right for an early Saturday morning time, but we still had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. The new restaurant is a lot larger than the old one - a little too much black color to my liking. What was not great was our server, Lana. She was abrupt and curt in her manner and speech - not very welcoming. We wanted to have the Creamed Chipped Beef that we had years before. The creamed chip beef was very good, but the hash browns left a lot to be desired. It took several times asking to get our coffees refilled. All in all, it was not the best experience we have had, and we will not be rushing back any time soon. read more
