I have been going to this salon for going on years, and I've always been happy with the way my haircuts have come out, but I think this time was the one that didn't come out how I wanted it to. I usually have the same woman cut my hair although I don't know her name, she cuts its exactly how I want it and offers her advice on how I should go about it certain ways. This time around, I had someone different cut my hair, and in the moment I thought, "ok I have the EXACT SAME picture I always use so it'll come out how I want." In addition, the photo I had showed the length at a middle/ almost short length. Upon further looking at my hair and comparing it to the photo reference, it doesn't match. I'm really saddened because I wanted my hair to look nice for a very special occasion I have coming up. I'm not even sure if I want to go back to ask if someone else can fix my hair. While the prices are affordable, I'm just not sure this salon is going to be my go to anymore. read more

She never let me fix my hair and she would fix it to how she wanted it. All I could do is smile and said good and leave as fast I could. What would they even do if I said I didn't like it?? My hair is very straight and fine which means you have to be precise when cutting it - she was so gentle and meticulous I closed my eyes and practically nodded off. I came here years ago for a hair cut and I really liked the service and hair cut so I returned about 2 years later. I mentioned to him (the owner) through text I can't speak Spanish so can I have an English speaking stylist this time only because I need to communicate if there's something I don't like. He said yes of course. I arrived and they placed with me the stylist who can't speak English. So he translated for me here and there. I spoke to them about a balayage the next time I came in, and I was quoted a price. Due to price changes a year later he had to change the price which was fine. I came in with a certain photo and wanted a black to brown balayage. They insisted they knew what they were doing and what I wanted. I also told them NO color higher than my ear. Nothing at the roots basically. 1ST VISIT ATTEMPT: it was soooo light I couldn't even see it. Did not match photo at all. He told me the color would brighten in a few days after I washed it. It did not. So I requested some lighter tones. He told me to show my friends and see if they like it. They did not. They couldn't see it. He mentioned they did this bc he thought I was going for a conservative subtle look. Which was not what I said I just didn't want it extremely bright is all I said. SECOND ATTEMPT TOUCHUP: I arrived and was placed with same Spanish speaking stylist. Not sure what happened but the manager had to leave. So he reviewed the photo with her before he left and he mentioned I wanted lighter highlights to show the balayage. When she finished my black hair looked completely brown and the color was all over my roots. All over. I was extremely upset and I tried to tell her that's not what I wanted. She didn't understand due to the language barrier and she said she thinks it looks good. When she sensed I was unhappy she got mad. And gave me attitude. Not an apology, attitude. I left and sat in my car and FaceTimed my friends to ask them their thoughts. They all mentioned it was too drastic and just looked like bright brown red highlights, not a balayage. At this point the manager Michael returned and saw me sitting in my car. I explained what happened and he was upset at the stylist. And he apologized immediately. He was extremely upset at his stylist and even told me HE AGREES this is not what I asked for. They (his wife, another stylist who was also not there until after, and him) tried to convince me it looks good. They told me to go home and show it to my friends to get their thoughts. I said no it's not what I asked for at all and my friends agreed. So his wife took me in the salon again to try a third time. THIRD ATTEMPT: stylist is now his wife who was kind enough to take time to try to fix it. so I explained the bottom of the hair was somewhat fine but the roots have such bright brown red highlights. Please make them back to my natural color up to the ear. I pointed exactly where. She said she understood and grabbed about half my hair and dyed it back to black brown. AS SHE IS. grabbing the hair I stopped her and said it again please don't dye below the ear that area is fine. She said of course And then dyed it. So half the color gone. And then uneven brown red highlights hidden in random parts of my hair (I have layers). They asked me if it looked good, and I was so exhausted I lied and said yes to leave. I saw zero signs of improvement. I did not ask for a refund bc they put a lot of their time into my hair. I appreciate how kind the husband and wife are so I hate to leave this review. But this is an honest review of my experience. I gave them three chances to fix my hair and it came out wrong each time. This is why I did not have them correct it a fourth time. *** I'm not sure they know what a balayage is. I constantly have people asking me about my "highlights", and I tell them it's a balayage. I first came here last year when I was looking for a new hair salon after the last one did the whole "you asked for 1 inch, but I cut 4 inches" bit. Yelp reviews are what attracted me but the owners, Michael and Alex, are what have made me keep coming back. I will not let anybody touch my hair after experiencing their service!! I used to spend so much time looking through pictures of hairstyles that would go with my face, but at Genesis salon I no longer have to do that. I feel like I have a personal stylist in Alex. I just tell her to do what she thinks would look good on my face and I get an AMAZING look EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I cannot give higher praise for this place, it's the place you bring your whole family to. In fact, when my mom came down from SF, even with our short time together I made her an appointment here and she was thoroughly impressed. Alex recognizes problems and fixes them. This was one of those last minute wild hair up your you know what type deal. I decided to chop off my locks. Literally on the way home from work. So I looked for a spot on yelp with tons of great reviews and also on my way home, and low and behold, we arrived at Genesis Beauty Salon. The owner, as well as all the stylists, were super friendly. I let the owner know over the phone what I needed and he said they could take care of me. Now I have some pretty thick hair, and I wanted an A Line bob hair cut. Most of the time, I can't ever get the stylists to cut it the way I want. They either leave it choppy looking or way to thin at the ends to where I end up with split ends for days. I have to say Mercedes did a fabulous job with my hair today. I showed her what I wanted and she got pretty darn close to it. My hair was medium length and as soon as I heard and felt the first chop of the scissors, I knew it was the point of no return. I swear, I was so worried that it was not going to look like the photo I showed her. Not the case at all. She did an excellent job (see pics). I just left Genesis for my first ever balayage and it was such a great experience. I feel like a new person with my purple highlights. I've never gone this bright before and I'm excited to see how my friends and family will react. Everyone at Genesis was friendly, especially Michael. First time coming to this place. Owner lies about the price over the phone quoted $60-80. Second the worker is not interested of doing the hair upon arrival unless the owner helped her with the job while speaking in thei language Spanish. Lastly, once everything was done they over charged double the amount $195 and it was not the price quoted over the phone and they also delete your review when in reality this place isn't a 5 star salon. First time here, Came across some issues. I was looking for just a trim and they had a availability so I booked an appointment. I do not speak spanish but the ladies cutting hair primarily spoke Spanish so there was language barrier. She understood me that I wanted a trim and we cute 3 inches off. I also told her I wanted to cut my grown out bang to curtain bangs but she wasn't understanding my request and just left them long. I left it as is because i don't wanna go through the trouble since there was a language barrier. Then when it came to paying, they don't take card payment. It's cash or Zelle. On there Yelp page they say they accept Apple Pay but they don't. It's Zelle and when I tried sending the money it wouldn't work. It said "Could not send money because this phone number is connected to a small business account" the lady kept Saying it was my fault? Idk how. When it clearly said it was due to the phone number being connected to a small business. Which idk why that was an issue but it wouldn't let me send it. I was able to Venmo her. There where no signs in the salon stating they don't take card and that payment was going to be cash or Zelle before hand. Over all it was a small cute salon but definitely recon taking cash and being bilingual so you don't have issues communicating, unfortunately this was not a location for me. read more

Alex did my bridal updo style in December. I loved the way she styled my hair and it just made me feel so special, I was then ready to tie the knot. I love this hair salon, it is my go to. True gem in Garden Grove. I first came in for a haircut last year(July 2017) after I recently moved to Anaheim. I searched for hair salons near where I lived. Genesis Salon had by far the best reviews from clients so I decided to check them out. I texted Michael for their next available appointment and within minutes he replied and got me in the next day. Upon arrival Michael and their staff made me feel welcomed and made me feel like I knew them for a long time. The haircut came out exactly what I wanted(I forgot who did my cut). About a month later I came in for a Brazilian Blowout. Heber did an amazing job! I was very happy with the service. I went in again for a haircut and another Brazilian Blowout (March 2018) and Fabiola did amazing. I told her what I wanted and she delivered. Recently (May 208) I came in for hair coloring(balayage) and I was very disappointed in how it came out. Two days later I asked Michael if they could fix it because it was not what I was expecting. I was close to just coloring it one color to get rid of the ugly highlights. He got me in the same day! Alex is a genius! She fixed the color and it turn out better than what I was expecting. - I highly recommend them! Their prices are very reasonable and they do full services when it comes to hair. So I never really review places but today I went in to get my Luxy 160g clip in extensions cut to mix in with my hair and omg I have to say that Alex (stylist) was AMAZING! Michael (owner) was so nice and talked me through what Alex was doing and made me feel so comfortable! It was only $45 and they made it look so seamless even before they curled my hair! Go and see the before and after! (Just FYI I curled my hair extensions prior so you can slightly see the difference since they used a different curling iron but it's still great!) :) Thanks Michael and Alex! Michael and Alexandra are quite the business minded duo. Michael does the greeting and the front desk services as well as shampooing. He's warm and welcoming. They even have snacks and drinks. The place is clean upon arrival and relaxed. I messaged the company on yelp to set up my appointment and Michael responded within minutes and I had an appointment set up for a couple days later. Alexandra is the stylist and she is very thorough. I ask for a typical cut, but some stylists don't add enough layers to the back. I like long flowing layers and Alexandra did a great job with the layers. Exactly what I wanted. The products that she used during the cut smelled really nice and blended perfectly into my hair. It seems like she has a natural sense for hair products. I went to a different salon a few months ago that applied an oily product that made my hair look like it needed another wash after it dried and that salon was double the price of Genesis (sigh). I was very surprised at the amount of services that are packed into that one price for a trim. There was shampooing with some high quality tea tree oil scented mix. I was offered a drink and melted into the chair. Alexandra also dried and styled my hair which I was not expecting to be included in the price. I attached a picture of the long ash blonde cut with layers for viewing. This place really has the "it" factor that you want from your salon but never get, so you repress that expectation in hopes that you can minimize the disappointments in your life (you can tell I've had a lot of disappointing salon experiences lol). After the cut, I wasn't sure if that was really a haircut or a religious experience (haha). I think it was because the staff made every effort to make me feel taken care of even though I'm pretty sure I came in a little bit frazzled from my day and skeptical of the services. My first visit and absolutely loved it. ‍ Staff is so nice to every single customer- I can tell they have long time regulars turned friends and I like that. Got a trim and layers (curly/wavy hair). Didn't take a picture unfortunately but my sister and I loved how we looked (she has very curly hair)! They styled both our hair after haircut and didn't sacrifice nor rush the quality styling even though we made other customers wait a little bit (they squeezed in a last-minute appointment for us). I noticed that every phone call got answered and that's a great sign to me. I noticed that when I called the day before asking for an asap appointment I also only had to call once. Wow. Hands down, this was one of the best services I received!! Michael was SO helpful and so friendly! So starting from the beginning... I was looking to get my hair dyed grey for a while. I looked at various Yelp pages, but it was difficult finding a place that was skilled and adequately priced. Eventually, I found Genesis, which had beautifully done hair, good reviews, and decent prices. When I reached out to Michael, he responded to me right away and helped me schedule an appointment. At the appointment, Michael had Fabiola take a look at my hair. They gave me the tea - no tea, no shade - that it would probably be hard for me to get it to the shade of silver grey that I wanted, which was very reasonable. We decided to dye the transition black and ombre into a grey-ish colour. It took a few hours, which wasn't as long as I expected. However, the grey was barely there, and it looked like a few grey streaks instead of grey ombre. I was told to give it some time and that it should lighten with a few washes. Unfortunately, this didn't happen, but Michael was excellent when I was leaving and followed up with me quickly thereafter to make sure I was happy with it. I did end up coming back to get it worked on again, and the second time look FANTASTIC. Fabiola was great, and I think she maybe misunderstood what I wanted beforehand? Or maybe it needed two times for the color to take flight. Anyhow, I really REALLY appreciated their extreme helpfulness and taking it above and beyond to help me achieve the look I wanted. They were incredibly attuned to me being dissatisfied the first time and were very helpful in doing their best to find a good compromise for me. I would absolutely recommend this place for others to get their hair done, and they were very swell to my dark, Asian hair! Thank you to the whole staff who were incredibly helpful and sweet!
