This place is always good when you aren't sure what you want to eat. You can create ANY kind of bowl, and now, during Lent, they have Mahi-Mahi. Grab meat, then veggies, they sauce, then spice, then starch...Enjoy. I felt the need to write this for the Oh-So-Understated Desserts. The Princess Pineapple KoKonut Cake is soooooooo good. I like how the cleaned up and modernized this location. I always thought the original "line" was chaotic. But the customer service was severely lacking. There were only two people not in the grill area, one of which stood in the bar watching football the whole time. The other guy got frustrated and ran out the front door. This was only made worse by the "line" having only half the items and sauces available. I was not able to get the bowl I've developed over the last two decades and grown to love. This was made worse by several pieces of steak being so hard, I cracked a tooth. Attached is a picture of the steak that was inedible. To add insult to injury, when the guy came back, he brought the credit card reader to my table. He explained that it was his first time using it. He stood over my shoulder while I had to choose from tip options, the lowest being 18%. I'm sorry, but the pretty new digs do not make up for the service and food being worse. I suggest you add vegetables first then your meats so you can get more in your bowl. They offer margaritas for 6 dollars everyday but it's okay for 1 person to enjoy(not to share). I am addicted to Genghis Grill. I was overwhelmed and slightly petrified by the prospect of so many choices, but once I found the honey soy + schezuan sauce combo, I was in heaven. I love that tofu is an option, and when I happen upon Texas, I always have the all you can eat... Last night I had 4 bowls... I thought I was going to pop. It's that good. I usually go to the location off of Park and Midway and the food is pretty good. The last time I went there, it was during lunch and the service was VERY slow. I took a friend who was visiting from HK and she enjoyed it. It's a nice set up and the food is typically quite good. I've been going to Genghis Grill for a few years, and it's one of those places you go once in a while. Mongolian BBQ is basically a huge raw food buffet line consisting of different meats like chicken, marinated steak, pork, beef slices and seafood like calamari, shrimp, etc. plus all the vegetables you could probably think of at the top of your head. Considering that you pick your own ingredients and your own sauces to have it stir fried, there is no way you could complain about the taste or how it is prepared. It's stir fried with you deciding the amount of spices you put in; what else are you going to have a excuse with a poor tasting dish? Aside from that, Genghis Grill is always packed and even though it's crazy and overwhelming sometimes, I feel the service is great for the amount of personnel they hire as the front of the house. Afterall, they do refill your drinks consistently and bring you possibly anything you ask for. The price is a little pricy considering that most people could fill up so much in one little bowl (the vegetables alone take up a lot of the space inside, and those shrink to a miserable size when stir fried). That is, if you are only getting one bowl. Other wise, time to time, it's nice to swing by here. The store next door to it, is another story! read more

The food was pretty decent and most of the staff was friendly and assertive, but the guy at the bar was complaining the entire time how busy he was and how behind he was when the restaurant wasn't even busy; he basically paced back and forward, not accomplishing anything. At one point, the guy at the bar had a customer ask for beer and he ended up consuming the alcohol instead of serving his guests. Being an Asian restaurant there was a great deal of sodium in our food, so naturally we were going to be thirsty; I asked for some more water and the guy at the bar got upset and made it very uncomfortable while he filled our drinks. The restaurant floor was sticky and one of the other gentlemen went to the restroom with a rag and my partner witnessed him use the same rag afterwards to open soy sauce bottles. The quality of Genghis Grill locations can vary and as with any restaurant you can encounter an 'off' day... I have not had any issues with this location. Wait staff and management have been pleasant. Note: They have a smoking section, (but I am a non smoker who doesn't get bothered by that). I love Mongolian Stir Fry places. I have it down to a science what to put in my bowl and which sauces and spices to add. I love my food every time. A tip is to mash down your meat to make room for the veggies and I add my onions last so it sits on top piled high like a birds nest. I like mine real saucy so I get an extra sauce container. I also get the very large bowl (& you get two starches), eat it slowly (which is hard because it's so good!) and take your leftovers home for a great snack or meal later. read more

I am a fan of Genghis Grill because you can customize your order and you can get everything you want! On this day we were driving around and my husband and I wanted something quick and delicious. Our waitress seemed very shy and took a long time to serve us. We asked her a couple of questions about the bowl sizes and she just kind of looked off and laughed a bit. After we got our bowls we filled them up and the young lady at the grill was so friendly and kind. As we were waiting for our food we watched the TV's and we were enjoying our time. We got our food and everything was great. Our server only came over to check on us once and we had to flag her down to get refills on our drinks. We then waited 5 minutes for her to bring us our check. She took her time and quickly put it on the table and ran off. We saw the bill and were actually shocked at the price. I believe the prices have gone up significantly over the years. For what it is it's pretty expensive. We probably wont be coming back to this location. read more

Wow, where do I begin? I was in a party of 3, and we were looking for something different to eat on a Saturday night, and for some reason, Ghengis Grill came to mind. We arrived at around 7 pm this evening and were promptly seated. That's where promptness went out the window. It took forever to be greeted by our server who took our drink order which arrived what seemed like an eternity later. We had to constantly ask for ice for our drinks, as it was warm inside the restaurant, maybe the AC wasn't working or the thermostat was turned up. Anywho, we get our bowls, and head over to the area where we choose what we want to be grilled, and then drop off bowls off at the grill area, and proceed to sit at our assigned table. We're talking and observing how other tables are waiting a long time for their food, and sure enough, our order also took forever. We get our food, and I chose chicken, shrimp, and beef. the chicken and tiny shrimp were okay, but the beef was very fatty and chewy. I ate half my bowl and asked the server for another bowl as they were running the unlimited bowl promo with the large bowl $14.99 purchase. I waited for twenty minutes and finally stood up, and observed our server hanging out at the bar. She then showed up with my refill bowl, and we had to ask her a second time for more ice. After my second bowl, we waited for a half-hour, and I had to pull our server aside and ask for the check. She then disappeared again. After waiting for 15 more minutes, I went to the hostess stand and asked for the manager on duty. A short Hispanic female with glasses came to our table, and we explained what a horrible dining experience we just had, with the abysmal service, and the long wait for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. She proceeds to tell us that her grill was busy. Sorry ma'am, but that doesn't cut it. You obviously have zero hospitality or customer service skills. I will never again set foot in that restaurant ever again. The Mongolian grill at your run of the mill Chinese buffet would run circles around this operation. read more

Genghis grill is my favorite restaurant but this location SUCKS! The only reason I continue to come here is because it's up the street from my apartments. The entire staff at this location has always sucked. The servers all need training. There's never anyone to greet you at the door, servers sitting around and eating when people come in. Not only was the portion size only appropriate for a rabbit but they also did not get my order correct. It's missing the MAIN side (brown rice). Just look at the photo. Who in their right mind would pay $10 for the BS??? Also I feel like they cheat you when you order delivery and don't fill the bowls all of the way. My second time here wasn't nearly as pleasant. Upon entry, the lady didn't seem energetic about having customers on such a slow day. The whole place smelled like dirty mop water. When I was chosing my ingredients, water was dripping on me from the ceiling. The utensils were you grab the food were sticky. The cooks didn't ask if I wanted eggs in my entree, or tell me that my takeout was ready. I hope there are other cleaner and friendlier locations. I ended up throwing most of my food away, as I was scared to eat it after experiencing the above issues. I will not be back to this location. It's my cousins 15th birthday and he decided he wanted Genghis Grill so since they've given this location a much needed upgrade Genghis Grill he got. We arrived the open design is great it appears we arrived at the perfect time simply because once we were seated the entire restaurant filled up. We were seated near a waitress station which I hate but it was by a window seat so we just went with the flow. We waited approximately 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged (sitting right by the waitress station) while they stood around as if they didn't see us. Finally an employee in a dress shirt approaches our table and asked if we'd been helped, funny thing is once he appeared we magically had the same waitress standing around doing nothing at our table asking what she could get us to drink. We placed our drink orders and then the waitress introduces us to Katherine who will take care of us from here on out. Received our bowls went to the line and this is where the chaos began. They were out of simple things like shrimp, broccoli, corn, lemon pepper and barely had onion and were out of to go bags. We asked if they planned on restocking and we were told they were out. Anywho we made our bowls placed them for cooking waiting about 25 minutes before we received the first bowl, 10 minutes later the second bowl few minutes later my bowl came and after waiting almost another 15 minutes my daughter was told that her bowl had been packed up for a to go order???? Katherine was very apologetic however this was completely unacceptable. She advised that my daughter could remake her bowl for free with the few ingredients left and she would place it for immediate cooking which didn't happen but she did receive it packaged to go as we had all finished our meals. Needless to say this location may have a new look but they still have the same terrible service as I've remembered. Katherine was great and although nothing was going right she smiled apologized and handled it well. We came here for lunch. I like the concept and being able to create your own entree. I always order the medium create your own bowl. The buffet ( self serve ) is full of options for meats, vegetables and a variety of sauces. Once you select your options, the person on the grille finishes things off and the bowl is then delivered to your table. I have been to the locations at Frisco and at Galleria, which I find the be a much cleaner atmosphere. Management needs to do a refresh on the inside, it's too dark and lack good lighting. Aside from that, it's super easy to get a table and the service has been positive. read more

I just can't rate this place any higher... I've been to real Mongolian grills that you stood around watching them make your food. This place is a confused concept... a self service establishment trying to be a sit down service place? It felt awkward from start to finish... especially from the "smoking or non-smoking" question? Wow... what year is this? Yes yes, I know Addison still allows smoking indoors but I'm always stunned by it when visiting for work. The way the line was set up was crowded and having a waiter was also awkward. The bowl itself was "ok"... but hell, I made it. Then again, I got flavors for food I didn't put in my bowl, which means it came off the poles they use to work the grill. I mean would you want to taste seafood on your other meats? I did... Although most all-you-can-eat places are a rip-off for my aggravatingly-small tummy capacity, Genghis Grill is tasty, even when the novelty of create-your-own-food wears off. If they let you, get a bowl for your veggies and another for your meats, and don't forget to grab an egg for extra protein! The sauces are what make or break the meal, so be sure to hold up the line (like I shamelessly do) and taste-test each and every one of them. Throw some spices in for good measure. Remember you can add rice, noodles, or even request tortillas to make your meal carbo-licious and filling. A full bar and green tea ice cream will chase away any existing hunger pains. Sadly, this location lacks a patio, but makes up for that with its convenient location next door to Condom Sense. And as we all know, Mongolian BBQ is an aphrodisiac. In between fits of rage over a freelancing project, my roommate and I had a throwback to simpler times by going to Genghis Grill. In a rare moment or idiocy, the idea of all you can eat Asian treats sounded like an actual good idea. I peeled myself off the couch and into a pair of pants with an elastic waistband and the game was on. The first thing I noticed when we got there was the group of guys doing tequila shots at the bar. . .at 1 pm on a Sunday. I considered this to be a good idea and contemplated a shot as well, but remembered I would be putting around 8lbs of fiery stir fry concoctions in my stomach in the next hour or so. I opted for iced tea. I'm always hesitant to come to Genghis because I'm a germaphobe. I know that whatever sneaks past the sneeze guard will be destroyed by the screaming hot stove, but it's always a gigantic hurdle to climb when you see someone's little runt making his own bowl while he picks his nose and can't help but touch the veggies because he's never seen bok choy or bean sprouts before. I just put my head down and concentrated on making the best damn bowl I could. The first bowl was a seafood protein heaven. Shrimp, scallops, calamari and Krab with snap peas, zucchini, peppers, onions, mushrooms, bok choy, bean sprouts and carrots. I opted for a chili garlic sauce and a generous scoop of red pepper flakes, ginger and curry powder. By the time I got to the line to select my starch (Udon Noodles) it was pretty tricky getting all of my ingredients to stay in my bowl. After about 15 minutes (there were about 10-15 bowls in front of mine), it was time to see how my feast stacked up. The first thing I noticed was how much the scallops and calamari had shrunk down. Those two had comprised most of my bowl so my stir fry looked pretty deflated. Half-dollar sized scallops had been reduced to BBs and the calamari was undetectable to the human eye (I only knew I was eating it when I got that familiar chewy bite). The seasoning was good, the veggies were fresh and cooked surprisingly perfect and the heat didn't overpower any of the flavor. Things escalated quite a bit for round 2. I decided I wanted something with real heat. Shrimp, steak, snap peas, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, bok choy, bell pepper and onion were the cooling agents. The fire was brought on by fresh jalapeno, red chili peppers, garlic chili sauce, curry powder and red pepper flakes brought the fire. Pair it with steamed rice and you've got yourself a winner. My eyes burned, my nose fought off sneezes, my eyes teared up, but most importantly my mouth watered after every bite. It was a winner that went down fast but came back to fight a couple hours later but I didn't mind. We left Genghis about an hour after we arrived with the agreed upon conclusion that we wouldn't be going back any time soon. It's a gimmick restaurant at its heart. The food's OK but it's a novelty all you can eat concept that keep people coming back. read more
