My family and I love Genghis grill! Staff in Rockwall is always so pleasant. My favorite to go to.

4 stars for the experience of something new and a decent amount of food. We stopped by Starbucks and saw Genghis. Not having breakfast or lunch yet, it caught our eye and did well for a 2 in 1 trip. The guy at the front asked if we had been there before and we said no. He walked us to a table and said someone would be with us shortly. Our waiter came and proceeded to start our order but we were still quite confused on how everything worked. No one explained the process so we were lost until the point we got to the bar area to create our bowls. At that point, one of the cooks gave us a holler at what to do. You definitely may have to experiment with flavors but it was pretty good. read more

So....I understand Covid is a huge thing. places are slow, people are trying their best. And for the most part everyone is getting the benefit of the doubt from this guy. Let me also begin with I eat at multiple ghengis (including this location) all the time. But I can't even begin to find a place to start with this experience. Upon being seated we noticed there is one. Yes one person working every table. There is one hostess and one manager cooking that's it. After sitting for roughly twenty minutes and being told multiple times "just hang on I'll be right with you." We are finally served. Note at this time another employee has now begun helping cook bringing the total to four. We order our drinks and ask for our bowls we are then asked at the table ok what starches we want. Ok well that's new I usually base that on what looks good for my bowl that day. So we chose and then we are asked would you like an egg? Well yes we always do so he goes an rings them up then comes back "oh yeah by the way we charge extras for eggs now just started" ummm why not say that to begin with? so we decide against it. They don't usually give enough to warrant the extra charge (which is a dollar mind you). Now here comes the fun part going and telling the person making your bowl what you would like in it. So I ask for chicken. The tiniest bit is put in, I ask for more please. I get a huff and just this look of omg really. So I knew this was already going to be an adventure. This proceeds through everything I order, barely any is put in and I ask for more and attitude ensues. We get to the vegetables I ask for onions. They put some in. As they are moving in the bowl things are falling out, mind you it's not even up to the top. And they just throw it away so by the time we are at the end and the grill half of my bowl is gone. This is twice in a row now this place has completely disappointed and I believe it is time to just give up on it all together. Also side note, don't require masks if your not going to make your employees wear them properly especially handling food. I do not recommend until things are fixed. read more

Employees were touching raw meat with bare hands and not washing their hands after touching the raw meat. The food was not in temp the thermometer reading was 44 degrees where the refrigerated meats were located. They were very understaffed and the workers appeared to have been drinking alcohol in the bar area while working. I observed the waitress going outside to a vehicle outside to smoke and she didn't wash her hands at all. I couldn't believe what I witnessed at this location I will not return and for their health safety I will not recommend any family or friends to eat here. read more

It's been a little over a month since my husband and I ate here. We have one Genghis Grill in Oklahoma City but it's technically in Moore so it's a bit of a drive. So, I'd been craving this and we drove all over Dallas looking for an open location not under construction which wasn't a biggie, but I was excited. I remember the food being fine. I actually liked mine fairly well. My husband said his was meh. But what I do remember after a month is the unpleasant waiter. His picture should be under the dictionary under shouldn't work in customer service. It's not that he was purposefully rude... he was unfriendly, unhelpful (we barely saw him so only one glass of water, no refills even I could've slurped the dregs rudely) and when we left the restaurant, his attitude stayed with me. I ordered the special $.99 eggroll. It wasn't brought out to me and when I mentioned it, he plopped it (I guess that was pretty rude) down in front of me (how dare I ask for food I ordered and didn't get!) and it was half frozen in the middle. I believe a smile can make your day lastingly good... so can a crappy attitude. And he was TRAINING someone! It was lunch time. Food came out fairly quickly. I could handle someone maybe having a bad day? This was just his demeanor. Never smiled. No pleasant talk. Just a scowl the entire time. read more

It was good and it was served warm. I just didn't like touching the messy Serving pieces with chicken and pork on them. They gave us wet napkins at end of counter but by then..... we had all ready touched the serving pieces for the vegetables ....... I don't think I will be back. Maybe if the vegetables were before the meat????? I know it's cooked, but I also saw customers that didn't use the wet wipes and they touch trays and stuff ! This is one of my favorite places to eat lunch at! It's nice that you get to pick what you want to eat in a nice setting. The veggies are fresh & the meat is really good! Really bummed out they do not offer shrimp as a meat choice for the lunch menu. Overall, the experience is great with friendly staff & a clean environment. Extremely flavorless you could not tell that we had asked for a few different spices and sauces for each of them -very few vegetables that we requested and the rice was not completely cooked! overall just a horrible experience we have it here before but it has been quite some time due to Covid and how their layout is. Clearly not the same restaurant as before COVID. Gone are the self-service seeds for topping. This place had dirty floors and the tables were so subject to so many chemicals they were worn. The worst part of our visit was the price. Our bill for two, without alcoholic beverages, was over $50. I was floored that the price of a large bowl, without add-ons, was $24.99. You can get a T- Bone steak at the Saltgrass across the street for 24.99. Now I know why there were only 2 other tables in the place at peak dinner time on a Thursday. My friend and I went in and waited at our seats with no service for about 5 minutes. When we got up to leave, we spoke to the Manager, Vicky, and she asked us if we would stay, she would serve us herself and pay for our food. Vicky did an amazing job and it turns out the waitress walking around ignoring us was new so there was at least some explanation. Thank you Vicky, for turning that around for us. read more

I love Genghis Grill and have been here several times but this was a totally different ball game. They must be under new management, we were barely greeted at the door and the place was a disheveled mess. The food bar was disgusting and barely had clean utensils to pick your stir fry with. The employees seemed confused as to what to do and the cleanliness was very poor. I am highly disappointed and wish that management would either retrain or hire more help. read more

I came here and there were two employees not wearing masks. One of the employees not wearing a mask was bringing food to the tables which I find so disrespectful. When I saw that my food was ready I hurried up and grabbed mine before he picked it up because I did not want him handling my food. They should also either require customers to wear masks or at least put a shield where the food is open to put in our bowls, because the meat and vegetables are exposed and could become contaminated when customers (especially those who do not wear masks for some reason) come near. It's hard to believe that restaurants like this still exist during the pandemic. I will not be coming back until the pandemic is over, and that could be a while. read more

I'm really not one to complain. But I have to share our awful experience at Genghis Grill in Rockwall this evening. We showed up around 7pm. It took them about 30 minutes to even look at us and the three other couples standing at the front waiting to be seated... we finally get seated.. she comes out and takes our drink order about 10 minutes of being seated. We gave her our bowl orders then as well... it took about another 10 plus minutes for her to come back with our three bowls... no drinks though.. about 5-10 more minutes she comes with our waters and one beer.. We go load down our bowls and wait NO JOKE an hour before we see our food or her again to see if we needed anything. They brought Colbys and Cades food first. No biggie. But we had no silverware.. I went to the hostess stand and asked for silverware and salt/pepper.. they had no clean silverware. Took them 5 minutes to come back with soaking wet forks and an empty salt shaker and pepper.. the boys had their food for about 15 minutes and mine still never showed up.. so I asked for to go boxes and mine magically shows up in a to go box... our bill was still $40.. we had the worst experience/customer service I've experienced. We were there almost 2 hours and I never even got to take a bite out of my food.. no refills.. we just left money on the table and walked out. I highly doubt we will return which is UNFORTUNATE because that's my favorite restaurant.. read more

Extremely poor service. I walked in seconds after a table of 5. I was not greeted or asked if I was with anyone, just ignored. The restaurant is dead btw. About 10 minutes later, a server noticed me standing and asked how he could help. I told him I was here to eat? Lol. I was sat down. My server only came by once and that was to give me my menu. It's now 7:02. I made my plate at 6:30. No one has been by to check on me. My server is standing at the end of the counter near the grill. It was a disappointing experience. I love the food here, but come on. 33 minutes to get grilled food in a dead restaurant? 7:03. The server who brought my food just slid it across the table and said nothing. I wouldn't give 2 stars for just my experience alone because restaurants have bad nights. But, my boyfriend who has also been to this location and is a GM at the restaurant he works for agrees that his experience with the service has always been poor here. So 2 stars. This Genghis is the worst! The food came hot and fresh except the rice it wasn't cooked all the way and when I told the manager he said he would check into it. He came back and I has a piece of hard rice and all he had to say was that's odd. And walked away. I had a large Bowl made just the way I like it and I couldn't even eat 1/4 of it it the rice was that hard! Back in the day, I used to skip my last class before lunch to go to what I thought was an amazingly delicious chinee buffet. My boys and I would stuff ourselves on this crap until we had no choice but to go to sleep once we got back to school. Not once did I ever visit the Mongolian grill inside this chinee buffet. I think the little fella in the chef hat actually slept standing up. I recently returned and realized how bad the buffet really is, but I think the lil' chef was still sleeping. Fast forward a couple decades from my high school glory and we have Genghis Grill. I have been to this location several times since it's my pop's favorite lunch spot. All in all, it's not bad. I usually do a damn fine job of putting together a bowl that I am proud of. Sure it could be a little cleaner. Sure the service could be a little better, but the food ends up pretty good and the old man is happy so I'm happy too. On yesterday's trip, the service was fairly prompt, our bowls came out quickly and tasted great! Plus it's pretty affordable for the amount you get charged. One thing I will add, Genghis Grill has recently taken a page out of the Subway play book. They have been mounting a fairly massive 'look at us we're all healthy and shit' campaign. My hats off to corporate since it seems to be working, they always seem to be loaded with the diet coke with a value meal crowd, but I'm not buying it. Unless your bowl of delicious Mongolian grilled goodness is small enough to fit directly in your hand, it's not gonna change your life. Not for a few hours anyway. read more

I've always enjoyed the food at Genghis Grill. But their shortsighted management caught me by surprise. I can't have starch. For several trips, enough to earn free bowls on the reward card, I've been advised to fill a second bowl with cabbage as a substitute for the starch. On this trip, even thought I explained the problem, at the end of the meal, I was charged four dollars for the bowl of cabbage. I explained to the manager that the restaurant suggested the accommodation, but he insisted it has always been their policy. I guess they will have to do without this regular customer from now on. read more

I've taken the covid issue into consideration. I understand that they are understaffed. My issue is with the manager. First off the way they are social distancing is complete ridiculous. They have no marked off tables. They may put to parties next to each other and that may put 3 tables between two parties. We had about a 20 minute wait because there were no tables. Again there would have been if management took a second to look at their setup. After our 20 minutes of waiting to get a table we sat at our table for another 15 minutes without getting even a drink. All this was happening while table after table after table that came in after us were waited on. I was finally able to get a manager over and explain what was happening. He didn't understand why I was concerned with that. Right after I explained what was going on and he had no response, a 4 table that was sat after us was waiting on. That's when I was done. I will not be going back to this place again. The 1 star is completely for the management. The food was always good before and I know the staff was busy. read more

I don't know WHAT has happened to this place, but it has gone to crap! Used to be a nice place to get a good, quick lunch or dinner and a drink. There was a girl cleaning the raw meat area. She wiped the edge of the meat containers and then the counter with the same rag!! Holy cross contamination batman!! 4 tables at 8 PM on a Friday night, and our waiter disappears for 15-20 minutes at a time. We sat so long between drinks, I actually finished my regular size bowl so we had to go to the bar to get another round. On the way out the door, by the hostess stand, where 4 staff members were standing, a member of my party slipped, and I mean slipped, in what was nothing short of a river of water coming from the hallway. If you're on Wheat Belly, Paleo or Diabetic diets, this is the only place to eat and stay on the program! While Genghis Grill has always been a good choice for staying close to your diet plan, it's now 100% compliant for all three by adding cabbage to the carb list! YEAH!!!! The veggie choices have always been very good to excellent for people watching their carb types and diet plan, now there's an appropriate carb selection so you don't have to compromise at all. We just returned from this location and my husband is now hooked on Mongolian BBQ beef as the protein selection. Now he even wants it here at home between visits to the Rockwall location. You can also beef up your cabbage quantity as a side for $1.00 which I did. The cabbage cooks down more than the old carb-heavy choices like brown rice, Udon noodles fried rice, spiral pasta and tortillas but now there's CABBAGE! Well worth the extra charge for a little more cabbage. Our personal Warrior was Carissa and she is the best of the best. I don't know if one can request being on her Warrior station but you will be extremely happy and well served if you do. For those of you familiar with Latin, she is ne plus ultra. For those of you not familiar with Latin, Google it and learn something new today that you can continue to use. You're welcome :) There's also a new WiFi type payment device on your table that we used and it worked perfectly. You can also play games but there is a charge involved that I didn't pay attention to so you will have to find that out yourself. read more

This can be a nice change and it's a unique experience as you get what you literally get. You pick your raw foods, meat and Veggies etc and pick noodles or rice and you get your own sauces and spices as well. Give it to the cook and wait for the food. The service here could be better at times. And the bar is a joke imo. But whatever. Never used it here. It's tiny and I have never seen anyone tending it. I've ate here lots in the past, and I'm not sure what happened, but it has gone down hill. I came from lunch because I wanted something healthy and that I could control. I got greeted at the door with "hang on a sec." the place was basically empty. I stood for awhile, and finally got seated. I ordered a water, and it took the waitress for EVER to get it to me. I got up to get my food, and as I was going through the line and lifted a set of tongs, BUGS flew out of it and began swarming. GROSS. It used to be a good place to eat, but now, the place is dirty and gross and I do NOT suggest eating here. read more

First time visit - for lunch. Staff cheerfully explained how to prepare our own servings for the "lunch bowl" and submit the tray for grilling while our drinks were delivered to the table. The freshly cooked bowls were delivered promptly and piping hot. Since we picked our own ingredients each portion was made exactly to our liking. Both were excellent and we will be back! read more

I have always loved the Genghis Grill, so it did not take much effort to come up with this location to try on an trip back from Little Rock, Arkansas to Dallas. I first had to checkout the lady's room after the 5 hour trek. The restrooms were large and clean. The prep line at this location can only be used from one side, whereas some of the others are like salad bars, and are accessible to guests on both sides. They now have seasoning tips and recipes, but being the self-proclaimed chef that I am, I came up with my own concoction. Which was AWESOME, if I do say so myself. The wait staff was friendly and anxious to help. All in all this was a very nice lunch, and not a bad price for the type of establishment it is. Mongolian grills can become expensive, and they give you a 1 bowl or bottomless bowl option. I love this option! read more

I have been a fan of Genghis Grill for a LONG time, way before they started popping up everywhere in DFW.... It's still one of my favorite places to eat but I find myself appreciating this location the most! The staff here is so friendly and helpful! Sure, all they have to do is keep your drinks refilled and offer suggestions, but I seriously feel like VIP everytime I come here! They have great teamwork and you will get refills from servers that aren't your own and everyone including the management is constantly checking all tables to make sure everyone is taken care of! For a Carnivore like myself, you really can't beat this place! Build your own bowl with as much meat and veggies you can fit in there! Having been to the restaurant before we were looking for a quick and tasty dinner out. The restaurant was mostly empty and we still waited in line for 20 minutes to fill out bowl. They kept interrupting the line service to fill to go orders and moved them to the head of the line. We waited an additional 40 minutes for the food to arrive which was half burnt in such a way that it must have been left unstirred in the grill. The waited didn't check in or offer refills on drinks. I love Genghis grill as their food never disappoints. Their staff was great, they were all masked up and very attentive. However, i found it odd that they were letting us serve ourselves with the same spoons instead of having someone put the items in our bowl like other buffet style restaurants do it during this ongoing pandemic and with so many people now out here walking freely like zombies without masks in it made me cringe watching these people touch everything with their bare hands. read more

I love being able to mix my own food together, but if you have no idea of what you're doing, they have little recipes with exact measurements you can follow. I love Mongolian style food and the beer was very reasonable last time I was there for happy hour. read more

Every time I have been here it is quick, food is really good and staff is always friendly. Good portion of food. Even enough for the next day . Probably one of my favorite places to eat in Rockwall. Way better than all the dang Mexican food places. If you have never eaten Mongolian food I definitely recommend trying it. read more

If you are not a person that eats too much, get the small bowl and pack it like you mean business. The key is to stuff with it different meats and sprinkle the seasonings, vegetables and sauces. Always add eggs! I got the regular bowl and I was struggling to finish it. Another tip: I wouldn't mix seafood with chicken or other meats. You always may not need to add salt or pepper as you get plenty of flavoring from the other sauces and seasonings. If you get a regular bowl, this meal may last you for a day or so. All in all, I highly recommend. The pineapple mint drink is also a must have. read more
