It's been over a decade that I've been at this Genki Sushi, however it's nice to see it's been renovated and looking a lot more better than what I remember it to be. Tip of the day - if you want fried food, select them first then send in your order to the kitchen first. Our fried items took longer than expected so getting them to the kitchen to work on them first may help lessen the wait time as your other items get to you. Let me start off by saying everything we ordered was made fresh and what was delivered to our table was good. Sad the robot wasn't working, so the udon was brought by hand. Maybe we'll go back and it will be fixed. The service We went around 4ish and there was a wait, but it was apparently everyone's break time and they all dispersed. The timing was odd. The busser was assisting us for items missing and things we didn't receive yet. She was overwhelmed, but helpful. There were items that were supposed to be made for our to-go order and completely dismissed, so they took it off the bill -- no fuss which was nice. I started doing online orders at the Kaneohe location - Windward city shopping center. Their online order is slow - service. The food is ok. The consistency with the chicken karaage is mixed. Sometimes is overcooked while other times is cooked to perfection, so I don't order the chicken karaage anymore. The Cali roll, the tempura, the sukiyaki bowl, croquette - all good. We have been anxiously awaiting the re-opening of this location and are so happy the doors are back open here in Kaneohe! Genki is always a go to spot for a quick lunch, and with the reopening and some specials, I was so very pleasantly surprised. There was a seasonal special which included an uni shiso temaki and uni nigiri which I was so surprised to see at a genki! The staff was all very attentive and the manager also came around to check on us throughout our meal. We even got to take home a set of 30th anniversary genki sushi chopsticks. Never been to this Genki, didn't even know it was here so it was a pleasant surprise for my husband and I when we wanted something quick and simple to eat. I know this isn't this specific Genki's fault, but anyone else disappointed with how all Genki ordering systems are? The giant tablet was so simple! And now there's no game. Also, the website ordering system is okay but needs a lot of work. This is a big reason why I can't give any Genki a five star review. Service wise, the servers are great! The store has a sign posted in front that due to staffing wait times are slow, so I understand, but is the staffing lacking servers or chefs? Our table service was good and it looked like there were a lot of servers, but our food was slow and inconsistent. Maybe the sign should be more clear about what people are waiting for. I do wish that items came out in order or there was a way to track what items you received and what items are on their way. My husband and I finished eating and we spent a good amount of time looking over our plates trying to distinguish what we got and what we didn't. We noticed that we didn't receive one item and we were ready to go, so my husband brought it up and they were kind enough to take it off our receipt, BUT as he walked away from the table, the plate flew in. Again, there should be a better way to track what is on the way and what is left. In the end, I do like that theyre adding new things to the menu. Leaving a two star because my son and I do enjoy the food. The service is non existent at the Kaneohe location. We enter and are greeting with "picking up?". Not a hello/welcome. Told to scan the waitlist code outside. Table is finally ready so we order our food all at once. Half of the order came within 5 minutes. The last half probably wouldn't have came if my son didn't tell me it's been over 30 minutes and to ask. So I asked a hostess and she said she'd check and never came back to the table with an update. Waited another 5 minutes to ask someone else. Magically our food appeared. No one came around to see how we were doing or to refill waters. Paid the check and left with no thank you. I understand they are short staffed but the front of the house had 3 girls working. I hope management sees this and trains their workers to have a sense of pride and make their guest feel welcomed, not forgotten, about which my son expressed. read more

Having lived in Utah, upon visiting we would visit Genki, when the belt was working & the restaurant was busy, grandkids loved this place as picking out your food was easy, as the belt rotated. After a few years , decided to try Genki for lunch and was disappointed at the poor service. The one person on duty Kwena had no customer service & handed us a QR code & menu's with no explanation as we waited for some kind of response.Another person came on duty& was of no help either. Waited approximately 10 mins total & walked out and went to a eatery couple doors down. Never to go back again, Kaneohe has to many good restaurants to patronize! If you go there EXPECT to wait. They will have LOTS of open booths and they will not sit anyone there. We waited 40 minutes, while many booths remained open. They do not turn over tables quickly either. They could be SO much more profitable. I worked in restaurants for many years. They had what seemed to be a manager and three servers in the front of the house. Considering they really only bring water, tea and maybe take your initial order, I don't understand why they leave so many tables open. They don't bring your food or clear dishes as you eat. I saw at least four different people come out from the kitchen area, so seems they have enough kitchen staff‍ Everything else was as expected. The food is typical Genki sushi food. We used to love going to Genki Sushi, and were excited to see it wasn't busy around 5:30 on a Saturday. It appeared everyone there so far was being seated in the central aisle of the restaurant. The place looked fairly clean, and it was about half empty and looked fairly bright and clean with Christmas lights up (It's early December). Most of the personnel looked fairly young. A hostess tried to seat my husband and in a half booth, when much of the restaurant was available, but on request, sat us in a full booth. Disposable chopsticks and forks were given to us after we requested both. The hostess took our drink order: a coke, hot tea, and water, and returned with drinks and a paper receipt. We used to order via a provided iPad at this location, but now, you are supposed to scan a QR code on the provided printout to take you to the website to order, but that wasn't working on my iPhone (the order button did nothing). After calling someone over, he wrote our order down and ordered for us. We ordered two miso soups, two spicy tuna, one kabocha, one dragon roll, and one California roll. Servers brought our miso soup, and the rest was delivered by a car carrying our dish to the table. Spicy tuna portions were noticeably smaller than the last time we went and didn't have the signature green onion garnish. When we asked for that, a worker took our tuna away, and it was delivered a moment later with garnish. Food tasted pretty much as we remembered otherwise, but the dragon roll only had one small piece of avocado on one of the four pieces. I didn't take many pictures but did take a photo of that after eating an end piece without avocado. Our California roll never arrived, despite asking about it once and initially being charged for it. (Servers used to count the various colored plates to generate a receipt, but now, whatever was ordered was charged, regardless of whether it was delivered or not). We had the server correct the receipt, since we couldn't wait for the California roll any longer, paid, and left. We could tell this restaurant is cutting corners to say the least. Now for the sushi- we got the 19 piece spicy ahi and while this was ok- the portion size was so small. Th Eli fry was cold ( I ate it in the car) and the ebi fry spicy tuna had 3 pieces( see picture) now for the uneatable items- the onion salmon was fishy and very slimy. I spit it out and didn't finish. Same for the ahi - although not as bad. There are too many sushi places here in Kailua to have bad sushi. Do better Genki! read more

ANOTHER 20 minutes goes by, I go up again and ask about my order, they tell me it's being boxed up..I waited over an hour from the time I placed my order online til I got my food. Mind you a few people also got incorrect/missing items in their orders and were coming back very upset. The most frustrating part was that knowing they are backed up/short staffed let your customers know that. That is customer service 101. I even asked the worker if they were backed up and she doesn't answer me and just goes they're boxing up your order. I wouldn't be surprised if this location closes down soon. It's horrible. Father's Day dinner 2021 Several months ago, my sister had given me a Gift card for Genki Sushi and I wanted to use it before I misplaced it or forgot about it. I had attempted to redeem the Gift card a couple of times at the Kaneohe location of Genki Sushi, but their system was down. Knowing that my nieces like Genki Sushi, I went to Windward City Shopping Center again to ask if their system was in operation yet... Yay! The land line problem had been solved! I chose the Combination Platter for its simple variety and placed my order for a 4pm pick up time. While I was there, I looked through the menus and was amazed at the selection of food choices. The build-your-own bento seemed intriguing... maybe I'll return one day and try it... Anyway, I went back to Genki Sushi around 4:20pm and my order was ready. There were other customers getting takeout, too, so, it was a bit busy. Service was friendly and efficient! When I got the platter to my mom's house, my family was happy. I explained that the restaurant had run out of inari sushi, so, California Roll was substituted. Everyone munched on the cucumber, ahi, and tamago sushi happily - even though a few pieces were falling apart... LOL! I've been dining here for well over a decade, even back when this place was an actual revolving sushi bar with the sushi chefs right in the middle. It's absolutely astounding how downhill the restaurant has gone over the past couple years (though I suspect it's mostly due to understaffing). We went to genkis for a really quick lunch on my boyfriends lunch break and everything was so fast! We were seated quickly, the servers brought out condiments, drinks and utensils quickly. We really liked the service since they checked on us and made sure all of our food came out. The food was delicious as usual. I got my usual spicy ahi tempura roll and combo fried squid. The fried squid was really fresh! It was hot and crispy, I was so happy with it because it's usually cold when I order it. I saw on the specials that they had ponzu salmon and onion, that I HAD to order it. For $5.95, you get 4 thick slices of salmon on a bed of onion. The ponzu sauce is on the side. I should have tasted it first before pouring the whole thing on because the ponzu was very citrus-y. It wasn't like yanagis light ponzu sauce, this one packed a punch, but for the price, I couldn't complain. Been to this location a few times but tonight was my worst experience there by far. Food took way too long to come out, longer than normal. We did not have a gigantic order, long story short 5 out of the 7 plates I ordered finally arrived. The last 2 plates I was waiting for, was the spam musubi's for my daughter. After we were done, the spam had still not arrived, my daughter sat there watching me eat while all she had was fries. Check was asked for, and I had asked that the 2 orders of spam be taken out due to the fact that I had not received them (and they did) that was not a problem. My inari tuna bomb was not as pictured in the menu, it was sloppy and did not look appetizing. The front house staff were all very helpful and sorry about the unsatisfactory service. I relayed that it wasn't front of house but rather back of house that seemed to lack tonight. They were even nice enough to give me a discount because of it all. We finally get a text and she says oh I'm sorry can you wait a couple of mins and when we were seated, I asked if we could order since we knew while waiting. When our food came I was astonished at what I saw everything shrunk and the prices went up...no service what so ever. Waited over an hour for a table. The restaurant decor was sterile at best. Reminded me of going to diagnostic labs to get blood drawn. Ordering food is only through QR code, staff bring water, drinks, utensils. Most of our food took awhile and came in waves which is ok but what should've been fast, like natto, took forever. Food was absolutely disgusting, ahi was literally brown on the edges, garlic chicken was under cooked and spicy ahi, their signature sushi was awful and tastef old AF. I love this place. Been coming here with my kids for years. Service and food have always been great. The newer workers are a little different, but I get it, they're short staffed, been like this for a while now. Wait time varies on how busy it is. Take out orders have never been an issue for me. One of the workers, she was tall and her name tag said Kayla, she was really kind and catered to everybody. You can tell she was stressed, but she did an amazing job, and I hope that the newer workers can learn from her. read more
