Read years ago about how this place has the best seafood in LA. Finally made the trip out to Malibu and I have to say that I wholeheartedly agree. Definitely on a whole 'nother level. First off, the SAUTÉED LUMP CRAB CAKES blew every other crab cake I've tried out of the water, highly recommend as a must try for appetizers. The OYSTERS were also really top notch. Today, I attended a birthday dinner for my mom. I have not dined at Geoffrey's in over two years, so I was excited to go. For my main course, I ordered the Australian Waygu New York Steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The meal was bland, with no flavor. The steak was tough and a little dry. For my appetizer, I ordered corn chowder and tuna tartare. The tuna tartare was good, however, they only gave you (3-4 ) chips. The corn chowder was delightful with a mini crab cake. I ordered the "Lychee Martini" and it was very invigorating. For dessert, I got the blueberry cheesecake. This was the best cheesecake, I have ever tasted. It was so creamy, smooth, light, and flavorful. Yummy :) Our waitress, Dede, was very pleasant and accommodating. Our seating arrangement was so beautiful. Sitting outside, you could see and feel the ocean breeze. The majority of the seating is located outside. Very limited inside seating. Overall, this restaurant is a cool place to hang out. It's very trendy and upscale. The only problem is that the valet parking is very small. It's very difficult, at times, for the valet attendants to maneuver. We went for our 23rd anniversary last night. I have always wanted to go here, and they only expectations I had was, it's Geoffrey's in Malibu, a legendary restaurant. Whenever you mention that place to anyone it's always ooh and ahhh, but there's wasn't much of that last night. The personel and serves very all very nice, but the food and the place are disappointing. Looks like a rundown place from the 80's, and the small $70 steak with two asparges was cold !!!! And yes the by is water. You can picnic for free on the beach for that. I had notified them that it was a special day for us, yet we were seated by the filling station and restrooms and in under the roof, instead of a nice table out in the open patio closer to the water. There were vacant tables that was much better than where we were seated And with a price tag of $280 without alcohol, we won't be going there again. read more

I enjoyed the ribeye. The cut of meat was large...but a bit on the pricier end. Salmon was cooked well too. The view was nice, thought a bit on the gloomier side. Staff could have been a bit more attentive. It seemed to take awhile to get things/sides/water refills. You can walk down to the waterfront in front of reception, so be sure to do that as a post-meal walk! Valet for $15 is a bit much. You might be able to street park outside of the restaurant along the road (not sure)...though getting down to the restaurant is a bit steep, so beware. Auto 4% surcharge on top of the bill. Geoffrey's is iconic, I have been going to this location since it was the Holiday House and I love the view atmosphere really everything about it. The food is good, and for the price, I'm getting the location, and the sunset. Then it boils down to the service and on my most recent visit it's comparable to a trendy diner. No one here is going out of their way to make this experience any more memorable than they have to, just look out at the ocean and be satisfied. This place has really gone downhill for me and it's unfortunate. The last visit here was a big disappointment and it's not just one thing I can pinpoint, it is simply just the lack of quality. It was very calming and relaxing sitting oceanside with a beautiful view, I just wish the rest of the experience matched the vibe. My husband and I visited Geoffrey's Malibu on our last night in Los Angeles. Upon arrival we were greeted by valet (FYI: no personal parking at restaurant; only valet, which is added to your dinner bill). We had reservations, so we were promptly seated, upon arrival. Came here for dinner. I haven't been here in years and the ambiance was just as nice! I think they added an seating area where it's more inside but you still have a nice view of the ocean. We got the Ahi Tuna Tartar which was really delicious. I enjoyed that more than my actual entree Herb Crusted Salmon. My bf got the Seafood Paella and that was also delicious. Our waitress was really nice and helpful in deciding what wine to pair our food with and we went with a Pinot noir and that was a great choice! The only thing was we ordered a drink in the beginning but asked not to place it since we were going to drink the wine and she said okay and still brought it out. One of favorite restaurants so far!! First off, breath taking views overlooking the water!! Our waiter was so nice, he had originally seated us closer inside but then moved us outside next to the glass railing for a better view. It was gorgeous!! Food was amazing, the fried oysters hands down was a fave!! So delicious!! My hubby had the filet mignon and I had the salmon. Both were delicious!! Filet was so tender and flavorful, my salmon was crusted to perfection on top and flavorful as well. Both sides were amazing we completely finished everything. Definitely will plan to come back. All plates seem to be shareable amongst 2-3 people Appetizer: Sautéed Maine Mussels 5/5 Love, love, love! The Shallot and Ale butter sauce was so good and creamy, small bits of bacon added to the sauce, and there were a good amount of meaty mussels to share. Crostini bread is also given and perfect to dip with the sauce. This is something I would order again and again. Main: Lobster Quiche - 3.5/5 & Scotch Benedict - 5/5 Lobster Quiche was good but not great. I couldn't really taste the caramelized onions and felt like I was waiting for more flavors to kick in. The mixed greens salad didn't taste fresh, I had a couple of shriveled pieces and the sauce that accompanied it didn't really taste like anything. The Scotch Benedict with the Smoked Salmon and Roasted Croissant was really good. We loved how warm and soft the croissant was. Everything paired well from the perfectly poached egg to the smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. Ended our meal with a delicious crème brûlée. It was big and definitely shareable among 2-3 people. I decided to dine at Geoffrey's in Malibu. Every dine in experience at Geoffrey's has been a wonderful experience. I sat in the outside dining area. Our server, was prompt an attentive. I ordered eggs with Ribeye steak. The taste was perfect. The ambiance is soothing an very appealing. The ocean view is a must for first timers. Although sometimes it is cooler in the evening, it does not take away from this wonderful dining experience. It is a good idea to arrive at their opening hour, as it fulls up fast. You have the option of parking on PCH, which is always busy, or driving down the steep incline to their parking area. You can not ask for a more beautiful setting, a panoramic ocean view and comfortable chairs. The tables and umbrellas are strategically placed to give you the very best Malibu experience. It is a pleasure just to sit there. The service was impeccable; friendly but not intrusive. We were there for an early dinner on a warm day; the Pacific Sangria was refreshing and perfect. I could drink them all day. We started with the servers recommendation of Spicy Fried Oysters; not too spicy and fantastic, delicious, Couldn't be better. My husband had a ceasar salad , no surprises there. Fresh deep green Romain. His main was the swordfish; he said it was the best swordfish he ever had. He is a fish guy so that is quite a statement. It was served with beautifully roasted fingerling potatoes. I was not so impressed with my choices. I love a good tomato so I ordered an heirloom tomato and burrata salad. It is served in a large bowl and either the tomatoes were tasteless or they were overpowered by the burrata and dressing. Had it been on a plate I could have separated out the heirlooms, but I did not get the tomato I craved. I ordered Glazed tofu with five mushrooms because I have never seen it on a menu. The glaze was thick and overly sweet. I could not really distinguish 5 mushrooms as they were all sautéed mixed together under the tofu and the sauce, the earthy Unami of mushrooms was lost . I couldn't eat half of it. Too rich. At this price point I expect fine ingredients that shine. Both of my dishes came up short in this area. Geoffrey's is pricey, it is a prime location in Malibu, one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. It's a high end neighborhood. It says on all of the menus that a 4% charge is added to your check to cover a higher minimum wage and other government regulation expenses. Why not build this into the menu prices is a mystery. There is also a 12 dollar charge for Valet parking. A 200 dollar check becomes a 280 dollar check after tax, surcharge, valet, and tip, also there is a sign outside prompting you to tip the Valet. You don't eat here to save money, this is a special experience. The Disneyland of dining, if you will, at about the same price. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. If and when we visit again, it may just be for cocktails and appetizers. If you are visiting, this will be a true Malibu experience to write home about. read more

A classic long time establishment in northern end of Malibu is a long drive for us but we came here to celebrate a birthday after our day at Getty Villa. It's right off PCH, valet parking only. Ocean side view but not right on the beach, there are stairs to walk down which is nice during daytime but at night there are no lights on the pathway so no after dinner walk. Seating is alfresco with ocean views, there are cozy booths and table with chairs seating, also there are heating lamps. They have a cocktail and wine menu. It's pricey but you pay for location to celebrate a special occasion. I can imagine many engagement proposals are popped here as there are many couples. Our party of four ordered: Drinks: watermelon and cucumber is strong not too sweet. Appetizers: crab cakes and coconut shrimp Entrees: surf and turf - lobster and steak dish is hearty with risotto and mashed potatoes - Paella with seafood is a large dish. - Seared sea scallops - filet mignon. The food was good, the place was clean, parking is Valet. The restaurant is obviously on the higher price range, given its location. It's not an everyday or every weekend kind of dining, but more like a place you go to celebrate special moments. Some of the photos here on Yelp also suggest that the restaurant is right next to the beach with no visual obstructions. This is somewhat inaccurate. Where we were seated, there were at least 2 houses with rooftops that were obstructing the ocean view. Ultimately, it should not bother diners as you enjoy the food and service. There's valet parking for $15. All tables are outside and most have ocean views. Our waitress was wonderful. Her name is Marcie and she's the best part of the restaurant. The staff that checked us in mentioned to us that once we start there's a two hour limit to our table. They start the timer when we sit down, not at time of reservation. The restrooms are clean and look like a fork in the road where you choose from two doors and one of them leads to paradise, while the other one leads to death. Food is very good. The baked Brie comes with fruit that's a bit spicy, which I liked a lot. There's no kids menu but they can modify any dish. They couldn't make sunny side up eggs. They only had poached and scrambled. My husband is vegetarian and got the mushroom omelette. He didn't like it at all, so I deducted one star. To me, the food was good, but not to the point where I would come here solely for the food. There's also a coastal access staircase. I didn't go down there so I don't know if it goes down straight to the beach or not. Overall, I recommend it. The view is great. The menu is large and when we visited during weekend brunch there was a variety of breakfast and lunch options to choose from. I started off with a mint, cucumber and lime cocktail. This was super refreshing and strong - the perfect way to kick off a meal. Oh, and speaking of kicking off a meal. The comped bread and butter is divine, but don't fill up on it! My sister and I also shared the coconut shrimp app. This was just okay - shrimp came served on top of a fruity compote that made it all taste a bit perfumy. For my main I went with chicken picatta. I loved it - don't get me wrong. But it wasn't really a chicken picatta and was more like chicken in a cream sauce. Usually I order this dish to have something lighter and not creamy (sensitive tummy committee) so I wish this was noted on the menu. In any case! It was still delish and I gobbled it up. Celebrated wedding anniversary here with husband. Originally had a reservation for 12:30 pm but was running late. Called the restaurant to tell them I won't be there until 1:00 pm. They changed my reservation but when I got there our table was not on the side next to ocean view as indicated when I made my reservation. A party had left sitting next to the ocean view so there was an empty table. I took a chance to see if we could move over. This was before they brought our entrees out. The server never got back to me it's like they forgot I even asked. But what made it upsetting is that the couple next to our table asked the same question if they could move over and what do you know? They were allowed to move over! Not sure what happened there but this experience left me speechless. On top of that, every table got their white napkins with the fork and knife on top of it, but we didn't get any white napkins. We had to ask for it. Now on to the meal. The only shining star of the meal was the crab cakes (5/5 rating) We also ordered the Chilean sea bass. The fish was overcooked, taste is mediocre at best. Fish was sitting on top of the sauce and made the fish soggy. Baby bok choy was not fresh. Not sure why the chef paired baby bok choy with fish. Could have used another vegetable for example spinach, asparagus or tomatoes (3/5) Next entree we ordered was the seafood paella. Mussels and clams had very little meat and the shrimp had no flavor! Literally no salt nothing! It tasted bland. It tasted like the shrimp was steamed on the side and tossed into the sauce. Rice was alright. Flavor was ok (3.5/5) Also ordered a summer berry sangria (3/5) Nothing special in my books. Had better elsewhere like perch. I don't think I will be visiting again. There are better restaurants with ocean view. Food was also overpriced for the experience we got. The bill also included a 4% surcharge for government mandate and employee wages. It just didn't make any sense. I get prices are rising with inflation but that does not mean you charge to the customer an additional fee on top of an already overpriced meal. To all yelpers, take into consideration if you decide to come here for a special event like a birthday or wedding anniversary , please save your money and time and I suggest to book somewhere else . But ultimately the choice is yours. I just didn't think it was worth it. This was just my experience but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Highly disappointed. read more
