The outdoor spigot in our back yard had not worked since we moved into our home 11 years ago. James Mabie from George The Plumber carefully worked backwards from the spigot into the house and eventually solved the mystery of why the water wasn't flowing where it was supposed to go; and, more importantly, figured out where the water was going and helped us avert a disaster. James stayed in contact with me over the phone (I was away from home) the entire time, carefully explaining what he was doing and making sure it was good with me. This review is for two separate service calls/repair experiences that we've had with George the Plumber recently (well, really Mike and James from George the Plumber :) TL;DR - both times were five stars + Our first service call with GtP was for an emergency service when we discovered one night that the sewer line at our house was backed up. When we ran the shower, water backed up outside our back door and came into the house. We got in touch with GtP the next morning, and they had James at our house within a few hours. Upon first inspection, James thought we would have to remove the basement toilet (original, from the 40s) and replace it (those things don't go back on once you take 'em out) to get to the backup. But it turned out that they were able to clear it without doing that and within a couple of hours, we were back in business with a totally clear sewer line. Bonus on this job for: 1) not unnecessarily replacing the toilet, which saved us hundreds of dollars, and 2) James cleaned up a very nasty sewage mess outside our backdoor which I appreciate maybe more than having a working toilet. Also, Mike (the owner) stopped by and checked in to see how things were going. Super pleasant and friendly. A month later, we had a non-emergency service call to replace our leaky kitchen faucet. Originally, my partner was going to do it but we discovered that the cold water shut off valve was broken, so decided to let the pros handle it. We had James back at our house within 48 hours of calling them this time. James was able to come earlier in the day than expected, and once again knocked out the job in a totally reasonable amount of time. He ended up replacing both the hot and cold water valves under the kitchen sink, installed the new faucet, and removed the old sprayer hose. In addition to being total plumbing pros, everyone at George is very friendly and easy to talk with. James explains everything that he's doing or that needs to be done, and they are up front about the (very reasonable) pricing. My background is in residential construction management/customer service and I've dealt with a lot of subcontractors who are great at the work they do but not at the people-part. This isn't the case with George's team. They're all awesome, and I'm so thankful to have found a reliable, professional plumber for our home. read more

We have a history of being plagued with pinhole leaks, and needed a section of pipe replaced in our basement. I was able to receive an estimate after sending in pictures, and when they arrived they also saw indications that a linked section was likely to start leaking - this is typical, you fix one spot and it starts leaking nearby! For just a little more, they replaced that section too! They arrived at the time I was expecting, and were done by the end of the window in the original quote, which really helped my schedule for that day a lot! read more

Mike & his crew came over to do what I thought would be a simple task. Replace our big old hot water heater with a new, energy efficient one. Problem turned out to be that in the intervening 23 years, the old unfinished basement had been nicely finished and the water heater was tucked away behind a wall. At first blush, it looked like there was no way to pull out the old water heater without costly, messy demolition. But they found a way. Mike Xeron has helped us before and, as always, this most current situation was handled with sensitivity and professionalism. We discovered a good bit of water in our basement one night. I don't write a lot of reviews, but after a lot of bad experiences with other plumbers I wanted to make sure to get the word out on my experience. Mike came and quickly addressed the three issues we were having, a stopped up garbage disposal, stuck valve on a bathroom sink, and a shower valve that only did cold water. The plumbers who have come to my house -- one has come on three occasions - are absolutely great. They find the problem, figure out a solution and are completely transparent about the options to resolve it, never ever pushing anything expensive and, indeed, usually finding a cost-savings solution. In one case, I had changed a P-trap but had dislodged my garbage disposal, which then began to leak. My finger was on the buy button to buy another disposal when John, after a careful hands-on investigation, realized that I'd loosened a lock on the GD. No new purchase required. Mike to the rescue!!! This past week temps have been the lowest in years. As I write this, the current temp is 14F with a -1F wind chill. Gentleman and a plumber.........how good is that? Called this company based on Yelp reviews....thanks Yelpers. We had a surreal water bill. Not high-----surreal. Had already had my regular plumber look for any problem, but knew I needed a second opinion. You can't proofread your own work, afterall, need a fresh pair of eyes. Got good information on the phone from Mike when I called for an appointment. He came out-- on a Saturday no less--and confirmed what we already knew, there is no leak. His response time was excellent, he answered any question I had for him, he knows his stuff. I liked that he had an apprentice with him. If a young person can learn from a master: technique, customer service, that is most desirable. They don't teach that stuff in school. I always notice when a skilled craftsman takes on a young person, would that they all do it. They tightened a bolt on a first floor commode and looked at a soon-to-be showerhead installation. Gratis. On a Saturday no less. Phone time, and then traffic. No charge, the man said. Will I use this company for upcoming installations? Will I recommend this company to neighbors on the listserv? Ummmm, Does the Pope root for the Argentinians in a soccer match?? Had Mike come for a commode replacement, he did an excellent job. Noticed something for another bathroom, why not replace it while we're at it. Great idea. As he and I were talking, we agreed that it's helpful to have a record of the model number of appliances and fixtures. It's better and faster for all concerned. We can go straight to what service is needed if we are on the same page. So easy to do when you take a phone-pic. Appliances, toilets, furnace, hot water heater, anything with a name plate on it that shows model and serial number, keep for your records. Hang on to this link for George the Plumber.
