Even though it's a cold weekday, there was a bit of a wait before we snatched a few spots at the counter. I found the experience to be everything you want in a neighborhood diner--bustling with activity, seasonal music, a pie on the counter, regulars who were called by name, and bottomless coffee. The menu had the classic options for breakfast and lunch. I opted for the big breakfast so I could try a little bit of everything and my husband got a Philly cheese steak sandwich with fries. My breakfast was absolutely spot on, from the fluffy pancakes to the crispy bits on the potatoes. My husband loved his sandwich too, and even made a pal by chatting with a regular who told fascinating tales about his life. Hidden Gem in Clintonville. It was my second or third time at George's Beechwold Diner. They serve breakfast all day and lunches. I had The Garbage Omelet; it was very delicious. The Garbage Omelet has bacon, sauage, ham, different cheeses, and veggies; with home fries and your choice of toast (wheat, white, rye, or english muffin). The Garbage Omelet filled me up. I will have to try the Big Breakfast 3 pancakes or 2 french toast, 2 eggs, home fries, and your choice of meat) or Meat Lovers Omelet with bacon, ham, sausage, veggies, and pepper jack cheese. I recommend going early in the morning because it can get packed and have to wait to get a table. However, George's Beechwold Diner is a wonderful to get breakfast and lunch, and the service is excellent. read more

This was my first visit to George's Beechwold Diner. I stopped in for breakfast, and since I was by myself, I sat at the counter. The service was fast and friendly. A few moments after I sat down, I was sipping on an ice tea. You know how sometimes you get served ice tea that has been sitting around too long? Welp, not here. The ice tea was great. And when the waitress asked me what I'd like to have for breakfast, I asked her to pretend that her favorite uncle, who was trying to lose a few pounds of weight, had come in. "Whatever you'd feed your favorite uncle, that's what I'd like." She must really like her favorite uncle. The veggie omelette with spinach and feta cheese she served me we absolutely perfect. And then, she had the cook give me sliced tomatoes instead of potatoes. What a great touch! And while I was cutting into one of the tomato slices, another waitress approached and asked "you know what you should try?" In response to my puzzled look, she suggested I have some of George's Greek sauce in a bowl and dip my tomatoes in it - "that's the way we eat our tomatoes" she said. It was so good that I almost forgot to eat my sourdough toast. What a great way to start the day - an unbelievably good omelette, fast service, and very friendly people - all for less than $10. read more

I still stand by my previous review of the food, but I've got to update about the service. The past few times I've been here, my order has been mixed up and/or the service was SUPER slow. On my most recent visit. They forgot part of my order. When our waitress came back, I mentioned to her. She apologized, said she "Forgot to enter it" and would be back with it. We did not see her again until she dropped the check. By that time, I had been finished eating for awhile. After the checks were dropped off, she never came back. She spent most of that time chatting with some other patrons at the counter. We waited almost 15 minutes and finally took our checks up to the bar. We sat back down and she came over about another 5 minutes later and said she didn't know what card went with what bill. It needs to be said that they were NOT busy. At all. We saw multiple people come in for a table, be completely ignored, and walk back out after a few minutes. If you want eggs from chickens that were tucked in each evening, or single sourced fair trade coffee that takes 10 minutes to "pour over", go to the Short North. Beechwold Diner is the best of throwback/retro you can get in one place. Beware - it's not a big place, and it gets crowded during busy times (read most of the time). But don't let that stop you - if you get there, you'll have a great meal. We stopped in early for breakfast and I always notice how clean things are - the retro wall hangings over the steam tables, near the grill are pristine, not a spatter of grease on them. Whoever cleans this place - I want to hire them for min?. They've replaced the seat covers and keep up with changing their tabletops. (Remember when businesses would advertise at the local diner? It's still a thing.) Our server was nice, got us coffee immediately, our food quickly, and our check timely - efficiency is a boon when you're turning over tables as quickly as they do. Two things to recommend: the gyro omelet (made with gyro meat & feta) and to sub out toast for their griddled biscuits. They cut their biscuits in half, butter them up, and slap them on the grill until they're golden-brown. It's as yummy as it sounds, no jelly needed. I usually skip the home fries, but they are thinly sliced, almost like little potato chips or thin, flat fries. They're better when they're well-done. You cannot go wrong. Im a huge fan of breakfast places like this so naturally its a five star venue in my mind. My brother and I went on a wednesday morning, casually strolled into a busy yet relaxed scene. The bar had plenty of seats open, but the tables were full. There is a sign that says they reserve booths for 3 or 4 people, instead of just seating 2 in them. Im guessing that mostly applies to when they are busy, because they seated us 2 at a booth when it opened up. I think this might trip people up, because they are a smaller venue, so be aware of possible wait times. Most importantly the food was fantastic. I had the 3 pancakes and 2 scrambled eggs, while my brother had the sausage omelette toast and homefries. We ate everything because it was meant to be that way. Parking sucks but our experience here was awesome! The good: -Mom & pop diner vibe. We went on a Saturday around 11:00 and there was a line but we got lucky & got seated within 5 min. You either wait at the door & awkwardly stare at ppl waiting for them to leave but that's the diner charm right? We must have went at the perfect time bc once we got our coffee the line was out the door. -The food has large portions, service was great- all different ages, the staff interacted like family (probably was family) and everyone was "Hun" especially regulars :) -We will be back and Josh wants to try their pancakes. I would LOVE if they made some gluten free pancakes or maybe they will let me bring my own toast? A girl can dream. On another failed attempt to go to Tasi (I'm SO over that place, btw), my friends and I turned to trusty Yelp to find an alternative. And that's how's we wound up at Beechwold Diner. In an unassuming location, I really didn't know what to expect. But Beechwold Diner did not disappoint. When we arrived around noon, all the tables were full, but we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes before one cleared. Our server was a big dollop of sunshine. She was incredibly sweet, helpful, fast - and had just the right amount of sass. She was moving people through quickly enough to keep the wait time low, but we never felt rushed at all. The food was very traditional diner food - pancakes, french toast, eggs, breakfast meats, homefries, sandwiches, etc. Among the four of us, we tried a little bit of everything, and it was all very good! Everyone's plate was completely clean. The only thing none of us was in love with was the coffee. It was kinda horrible to be honest. Oh well, so you have to go somewhere else for coffee first. YUM!!! We went there on a random Sunday morning and there was already a nice little line. Now some of you may be turned away from this, but in my morning diner experience this can only mean one thing, the food must be good. The owner of the busy joint was walking around greeting people by name asking "how's business?" "How's the fam?" He was making sure everyone was comfortable and played host like we were all standing around in his own home, asking if any of us wanted coffee, juice, etc. while we waited. We grabbed a booth as soon as one opened (only waited about 15 minutes). And grabbed the menu. They do have a few specials listed on a big board int he front, and we all ordered off their breakfast menu (although I will be going back for lunch since I really want to try their Reuben) And when things came, my jaw dropped. My eggs and sausage were done right, meaning that they obviously cook everything on the one single, skillet, meaning my eggs were cooked in yummy grease (again some of you may be turned away from this, but to me, this means diner!) There is a small diner on high street that many, believe to be the best breakfast in town. I believe that its over rated. In my search for a fantastic breakfast I stumbled recently upon Beechwold. I'm glad I did. Beechwold is everything that a diner should be and nothing that it shouldn't Friendly service with a smile from the owners. Great food, with decent prices and large sizes of servings with out being overwhelming or making you feel sluggish for the rest of the day. Daily Specials, or at least specials that appear to change on a regular basis to give you the best of what's around Good, but not great coffee that is always hot, and your cup full when you want it. I'm a fan of the breakfast starch of choice, potato, that you can get here that are made fresh on the griddle in front of you. The cinnamon rolls are fantastic, and hot, gooey, sweet and delicious and for only 3 dollars. You could easily eat one and get a cup of coffee and have it be your breakfast. To top if all off you have funky diner decorations, and comfortable booths for those that want it and, a long seated bar for those that prefer that eating method. I woke up hungover at 6am, having passed out at 9 pm drunk off my ass. I was bewildered and lost with nothing to do... then the idea popped in my head... What about breakfast? I want diner food. So I hop on yelp and I find this place and I am happy I did. This place is your quintessential old school diner. It is tucked in the corner of this little strip. You walk in and you're greeted first thing with a friendly "Hey! How are ya?" This place is clean and well taken care... I usually don't hold high priority of this when it comes to a diner, so when it is, it is noticeable. The coffee is hot, not burnt, and is constantly being refilled. I walked out of here cracked out of my mind and I loved it. The waitress was super friendly with her scratchy smokey voice...perfect. Now... I was insanely hungry so I ordered the big breakfast. It was the most expensive thing on the menu at $10. What I received was about $20 worth of food at any other diner...holy moly was it a lot of food. And it was GOOD. My eggs over easy were runny and perfectly mopped up by my well buttered toast. The French Toast was crispy and sugary. The bacon well done and crisp. It was exactly what I wanted. Sunday at 1130AM. The overview... If you want someone to cook and clean up, come on in. I always try to order from the specials, ...because they're supposed to be special. Everything here is re-purposed. The cinnamon rolls other reviewers rave about? The server loaded a desert plate of them from a Cinnabon box. The homemade hash, I read is a must have? Came from a GFS can. We had a short stack of butterscotch pancakes. A novel taste. I wonder if GFS also carries that batter mix. Our friendly server mentioned the beef was not corned and cooked here, but GFS. "Is it thinly sliced for sandwiches, or chunked with potatoes?" Even another server chimed in "chunky". You know the canned dog food looking item I was served. She recommended the french toast, but we had already ordered the pancakes. All the breads were coming out of plastic bags anyway, not fresh baked. Could the dredge make it over the top special. I will say that I saw a woman come out of the back with foil crimped around the edges of 2 pies crust. That's what it looks like when mom pulls them out of the oven. Maybe those are homemade. The place is clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. The bathroom is only one, for all to share. The interior 'wait for a table area' stands 4. Might be cold waiting outside in the winter months. This review is only for breakfast. Although I did not see anything special to make me think lunch is the high point. The man and I were lamenting the lack of good diners around us since our move from central PA. The land of Amish and diners should be the license tag line. So one Saturday morning to keep The Kid occupied we struck out to find a diner. We scored with beechwold. Everything a good diner has: Counter seating Fast service Biscuits The biscuits are amazing! They open them up butter them and throw on the grill. Man got the hash last time and I did the breakfast bowl which is basically biscuits and gravy with cheese. Super yummy! Thanks to traveling from hell to breakfast for work, I have a serious appreciation for good diner food. When all else fails, find a diner, order a stack of pancakes or a sandwich, and let yourself relax for a little while. Beechwold diner is a nice example of the neighborhood joint - relatively small, plastered with local memorabilia and general knickknacks, serving up hot and cheap breakfast and lunch for the regulars and anyone else who stops in. When I stopped to check them out on a Sunday morning, I got a clear tip that things would be OK when I noticed a family get seated next to us with a disabled child. One of the waitstaff who clearly knew them well bustled over, said hello, delivered enthusiastic hugs, and then helped them get their child comfortable and took their orders. That kind of connection and compassion makes OK places good, and good places great. Is Beechwold diner good? I'd say most of the food is pretty decent, though I'd bet their corn beef hash comes out of a can. The pancakes and squad gravy were both pretty darn tasty, and a slice of pumpkin roll we took home for later hit the spot nicely. The coffee was hot (and they kept it coming!) and I felt like we paid a very reasonable bill for what we got. It's not the fanciest or best place - or even the best diner - I've ever been in. I live really close to Beechwold Diner, as well as a few other diners (Wildflower, Jack and Benny's, etc) but this is our family favorite. Firstly, it's diner food. Don't come in excepting housemade lox on rustic bagels or something, it's legit diner food. But very good diner food. So I love the homefries, they are always the right amount of crispy, and I like that they are scallop-y instead of squares or shreds. They also are so great with my kids (2 1/2 and 1) and get them their food quickly. We also recently went for lunch and I had a GREAT rueben. I wouldn't have minded it being a little bigger, but it was salty and sour and delicious and I stole my toddlers homefries, so it was awesome. We are always too full for dessert but the pie looks AWESOME. My ONLY complaint is that the coffee is TERRIBLE. I don't consider myself a snob about coffee, I just like strong black coffee, but I can barely tolerate the coffee here. :( So as long as I've had a cup at home, I'm happy as a clam! read more

Pancakes are to die for! You can smell the vanilla when they set them down in front of you. Just a tiny little true diner in the Indianola/Clintonville section of Columbus. George will treat ya right. He always has a smile on his face and greets everyone if he can from behind the counter grill. Basic comfort food, I always get the pancakes, because, well.. I LOVE THEM! I also get a burger to go and its huge and char grilled and tasty. Never had a problem there, unless its being too full to get up. I miss The Beechwold Diner so much since I moved back to Florida. Have not found a comparable place for breakfast with the diner ambiance and friendly staff that George has. Note.. it is a TINY place with limited seating, AND SUPER busy with waiting lines on Saturday and Sunday mornings.... so if you are planning on spending a couple hours there, be prepared to get some glares from the servers, since you are cutting out on their tip money. read more

I really like when places are good even though they look unassuming from the outside. It's a thing with me. This diner is cozy and clean. It's seat yourself. There was no tables readily available when we first came in, so we just went ahead and took the counter because we wanted to eat NOW. However, tables came available slightly after we had sat and started talking, so it seems like it would not be obnoxious. Home fries were a little lacking, but killer over easy eggs (and I've had my share of over easy gone wrong in my day) and the good kind of soggy wheat toast. This is an old school diner where you can get a great breakfast at a good price. It is a smaller place with a lunch counter, a few booths and the coffee is served in various mismatched mugs. When you walk in you are directed to seat yourself once a spot is clean by a sign at the door. We arrived a little before noon and the place was full except for a clean booth in the back, so we grabbed it and settled in. The waitress appeared quickly and took our drink orders. She was not overly friendly, but no need for casual chit chat as long as my breakfast comes hot and fast which it did. We ordered a bacon and cheese omelet with home fries, French toast, sausage gravy and biscuits, and eggs over easy with home fries and bacon. All were good and portions are large. The home fries were tasty with good balance of crispy edges and fluffy potato. The sausage gravy has a nice little kick and they grill the open side of the biscuits which provides nice texture. Bacon was cooked perfectly crispy and omelet was appropriately cheesy. Overall this is a good place to come for a stick to your ribs breakfast at a decent price. read more

Friends and I had breakfast here this morning after walking for Breast Cancer Awareness downtown. How the hell have I lived in Clintonville for 3 years and never realized this place existed!? It's just like the diners I grew up with (except without the scrapple!) Such a cute place with a community feel. Counter seating lines one wall, while booths line the opposite. You literally stand in line until a spot large enough for your party opens up. We waited about 15 minutes; not bad. I enjoyed a typical greasy spoon fare of 2 eggs over easy, rye, corned beef hash & hash browns. Our waitress was efficient and sociable. No complaints here. read more

This place is horrible. I was picking up a post mates order and had to wait for 11 minutes. Nobody would acknowledge me. They could clearly see that I was picking up food for someone to deliver it. After they finally got to me the food had been sitting there on the counter the whole time. I asked her if this was going to be hot and they said it just came out five minutes ago. There is no way as it was sitting there the whole 11+ minutes that I was there. The poor man had cold food. I hope he reported it and got his money back. I'm just a little sad that we didn't stop in to this diner much sooner. The good news is that we know about it and it's just down the street. From the outside, it's rather unassuming and doesn't look like it could amount to much on the inside....WRONG! The interior is fresh, very clean and has just the right amount of Coke memorabilia and historic photos of Clintonville and the rest of Columbus. We stopped in on a Monday midmorning (which is great because so many restaurants are closed on Mondays). There were a few people at the counter who you could tell were regulars; chit chatting with the servers and the guy working the grill right behind the counter. You can sit down wherever you like so we choose a booth. The "breakfast or lunch anytime" was a huge bonus because around that time of day it's likely that I'll still want breakfast and my husband will opt for lunch. He ordered a burger and I went for the corned beef hash that was listed on the specials board. The food is good, a little unremarkable but it's a diner and they're not trying to make any promises about delivering gourmet cuisine. I did notice that his burger looked like it was hand formed and the veggie toppings looked very fresh. He opted for waffle fries instead of the chips; they were of the "OreIda" variety but were nicely cooked and tasty. My corned beef hash was definitely from a can but still acceptable and my over easy eggs were done perfectly. Once thing I appreciated that may not be as major to other patrons was how they prepared my rye toast; it was lightly toasted and covered from edge to edge with just the right amount of melted butter. We'll definitely be adding this to our regular rotation of brunch places...with pleasure. Good food, nice atmosphere and friendly service. A nice, traditional american diner with nice traditional american prices. Has bottomless coffee, which I like. The coffee itself is nothing to write home about but it is hot and plentiful. There are many potato options and the home fries are pretty ok. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Parking is a bit of a challenge, since it is mostly front-end in on a busy street. Getting out is also an issue for the same reason. Don't let that stop you from noming on a omlettte though. read more

I hate to give this a 5 because it's going to make it more popular and crowded, but I gotta do it! Ha. Best breakfast in town. No reservations and there is always a short wait, but it's worth it for a classic diner breakfast, and cheap. My go to spot. read more
