It's a great concept; small-batch high-quality donuts from a chef with a lot of experience out of a beautiful restaurant (it looks like a high-end diner). So I was wildly disappointed by donuts that prioritized innovation over taste. I left half of my bacon and eggs donut uneaten, and the gluten-free/vegan option was as dry as the stale donuts you'll find at a Grocery Outlet. Service was also a bit uneven. I was told there weren't any of the donuts I wanted left (but two customers after me in line got fresh ones of the ones I wanted... It's been a minute ... In January we had the good fortune to make a little content at George's. We meaning I just moved plates around while beautifully composed photographs were taken. I did make a few myself and they turned out nicely, thankyouverymuch. Making a pretty picture at George's is easy to do. Almost anyone with a clear eye could do it. The interior of the space is built out perfectly, in welcoming fashion. The chef's place in the rear has a window so visitors can look in and watch the magical merriment being made. The merriment makers behind said glass are super friendly and smile when you take their picture (always ask first!). Actually, everyone here is nice. Genuinely so, not made up cloying pretending to welcome you. A good people place frequented by other good people. The tasty donut treats freshly made are delicious, as are the sandwiches and sides. Many things were tried and without exception, all were satisfying. King George and the family were there in the booth in back. There were stories and laughter and an all around good time. Worth adding George's to an SF adventure if you're coming from away, and certainly worth regular visits if you're nearby. read more

Went here for an afternoon meal hoping to try their famous donuts but they were sold out. I ended up ordering the donut holes with chocolate fudge sauce, french fries with garlic aioli, plus George's chocolate milk and a latte. Everything was good but I just wish I came earlier for the donuts. The place itself is super nice. Bright, modern, and really welcoming. Ambiance was chill but lively at the same time. And service was friendly. Prices are on the higher side for donuts/ coffee but the quality and vibe make it feel worth it if you're treating yourself. The aesthetics and food quality is simply amazing!!!! but the service is horrible. The girl at the register was very unwelcoming and appeared like she did not want to be there. An attractive storefront, hard to pass by without wanting to check it out! Got to stop by on a Tuesday afternoon to try their donuts. They sell crullers here which is harder to find these days. Was impressed by their flavor selection and quality. These donuts are beautifully crafted, fresh, soft, and fluffy. The vanilla bean cruller was my favorite -- the coating is not overly sweet and the donut itself has a great egg-y taste. The glaze isn't overpowering. We got to try the limited edition pistachio cruller as well which had a nice salty touch. The brioche donuts were good as well, but I would definitely rank the crullers at the top. My only small critique is that these donuts taste a bit on the oily end, but at the end of the day, these are donuts! read more

It felt like a club as there's a gentlemen fitted in a black suit and ear piece checking you in. Great new addition to the West Portal neighborhood. Vibes are 10/10. We waited in line for a little over an hour. The staff passed out some hot coffee while we were waiting outside, which was a nice touch. My husband and I got two lattes and a donut each to try (chocolate glazed classic donut and vanilla bean glazed cruller). My husband thought the chocolate glaze was a bit thick, but I loved the vanilla bean flavor of my cruller. Beans for the coffee comes from Four Barrel. Ambiance has a nice vibe for an afternoon snack. Selection looked good. The donut hole flight with the chocolate sauce was really good. Something about hot donuts is simply magical especially on a rainy day. Americano was good. Just would have liked them to have brought over the cream and sugar for the coffee instead of having to go back to the bar to get it. Or just have me come get it there and then i could add my own. Went here for brunch over the weekend and have to say it was amazing from food to service. Right when you walk in you're greeted by the amazing staff. We were seated immediately inside due to the time we came in. Got the avocado toast which was flavorful and huge serving and can be shared. I'll never wake up on time to beat the early risers, but I had some luck mid-morning on a weekday. I ordered: -- Bacon & Eggs (brioche, $4.50): this had potential to be uniquely sweet & savory, but it was sweet all-around, including the bacon & custard filling. -- Classic Raised Glazed ($3.50): too springy, not enough of that fluffy softness I want to sink my teeth into. -- Classic Chocolate Glazed ($3.50): did not try although the bright sprinkles stood out against the dark chocolate glaze. -- Valrhona Chocolate Cruller ($4.25): again, the substantial texture is not what I was expecting. -- Apple Fritter (brioche, $4.50): taste does not compare to my favorites of its kind. -- Créme Brûlée (brioche, $4.50): the only one I would consider ordering again. Soft brioche bread encased in a thin crystallized sugar coating with a sweet filling. It's obvious that great care was taken in preparing George's high-quality donuts, which makes it all the more disappointing that the taste & texture weren't there for me.
