I finally got to try the pizza at Arizmendi, which has been on my list to try for a while. It's delicious and totally hits the "thin crust California style vegetarian slice made by a local pizza co-op" craving. It will feel very familiar if you've had Cheeseboard in Berkeley as they're affiliated and share some roots in their creation, but they don't have the signature green sauce that Cheeseboard does and I did find myself missing it. Regardless, the pizza was delicious and had super fresh ingredients and was very satisfying. I'd definitely grab a slice here again when I'm nearby!

The pizza today was superb! I got the daily special slice which changes. Today's was tomato basil, and it was very basil forward and over flowing with heirloom tomatoes which made it almost refreshing which sounds strange for pizza but it was so satisfying. With a crispy undercarriage and still somehow perfectly chewy melty, it had a great balance . I also got a chocolate chip cookie which was massive for the price, chewy and not too sweet. The service was quick but the out door seating was full today, which reflects the popularity of this quaint and highly popular location. Luckily it's a quick walk to the park and even through the extra distance, the pizza was still crispy and delicious.

I first heard about this place because Zendaya once mentioned it as one of her favorite spots in the Bay Area. After visiting, I can definitely see why it's so popular. The bakery was busy, the bread was fresh, pastries were still warm, and everything smelled amazing. Whenever I visit a new bakery, I always order a croissant because that's my way of judging how good a bakery is. This time, I got the chocolate croissant and a carrot muffin. The chocolate croissant was good, but not the best I've had in the Bay. I wish it had been flakier, with more layers and a richer buttery flavor. The carrot muffin was okay too. My mom liked it, but it just wasn't my favorite. That said, the prices are affordable, and it's still a solid bakery overall. So, I'd still stop by if I were in the area.

I cannot say enough about this place!! I loved it. I spotted Arizmendi while I was riding the N Muni, and I immediately bookmarked it. It was full of people when I passed it, and I had a feeling it would be delicious. I was right! My friends and I got pastries at Arizmendi and coffee somewhere nearby before going to see the Monet exhibit at the De Young museum. I got a pumpkin muffin and a strawberry + pear + blueberry scone. Both were genuinely so delicious. My friend got a carrot muffin and a piece of focaccia bread with mushrooms and onions. I was in love with every single thing we all ordered. The interior of Arizmendi is small with lots of shelves of pastries and beautiful breads. I wish I had purchased a loaf of bread, but I didn't want to carry it around all day. I'll definitely be returning to Arizmendi and buying bread and more pastries!!

One of my absolute favorites! - $4 pizza slices (yes, less than 5) - savory pastries, including the iconic cheese roll and tomato cheese focaccia (olive focaccia is just as good) - coffee (to perk us up after pastries) - sweet pastries (muffins, scones..) Benches in front of the bakery with lush green trees all over - this location is perfect for a Sunday morning stroll.

Today's flavor pizza (roasted tomato pesto) - savory with subtle sweetness from toasted tomatoes, dough is thin yet fluffy and crispy. was given to me wrapped in foil but was still incredibly fresh and not soggy. highly recommend getting their specials! There's a bit of a line but it moves incredibly fast. A must stop if you're in town!

While I was in the Sunset, I decided to get some food from Arizmendi. The pizza of the day was cherry tomatoes, zaatar, feta cheese, lemon and garlic oil, p+p, I got a half pizza. I felt the pizza could use more zaatar but the feta was good, reminded me of goat cheese. Bialy with onions, poppy seeds: This was also pretty good, savory, I really liked the poppy.

Long line on a weekend when they start selling pizza at 11am, but line moves fast. Similar style to Cheeseboard in Berkeley - different vegetarian pizza each day, by the slice or half or whole (pre baked / hot). Pizza itself is fine, but a bit soggy for my personal preference. Plenty of other baked goods for sale.

When my wife and I started planning our leisurely drive to San Francisco, we intended to visit two bakeries, Tartine and Arizmendi, with the goal of purchasing scones and other pastries/desserts. Our cousins were familiar with both bakeries and graciously volunteered to be our foodie guides as we drove to these two bakeries Saturday morning. After visiting Tartine and B Patisserie, Arizmendi was our final bakery and our last stop on our Bay Area foodie tour. Just like the other two bakeries, Arizmendi was a popular destination, it was different than the other two in the selection of the pastries, and I highly recommend their corn cranberry scone and their cheese focaccia. Arizmendi is also located in the Mission District specifically on Valenica and 24th Street. The bakery is in between a Royal gas station and the KitTea Cat Lounge. Parking consists of street parking and just like the other bakeries, parking could be challenging, but Arizmendi is worth the trouble parking and walking to this confectionary paradise. This bakery is a business where their baked goods are enjoyed at home since there is minimal seating. What's unique about this bakery compared to the other two is how the baked goodies are selected. It is self serve where it's a little hectic trying to maneuver around other customers to pick the pastries and breads you desire. The young black lady behind the register who checked us out was courteous, friendly, and took care of us quickly. As you enter Arizmendi, there are four wooden display cases with plexiglass holding scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pies, croissants, focaccia, cookies, and shortbreads. As you peer through the plexiglass to decide what to select, make sure to grab the provided wax to pick up your baked goods and place them in the provided bags. One of our friends asked us to grab scones, so scones were one of the items we knew we were going to purchase. My wife selected other items, but I asked her for a focaccia because my cousin said that Arizmendi was know for their pizza breads. I highly recommend you purchase their corn cranberry scones. These scones are hearty, the cranberry is plentiful, and I really enjoyed these while I was drinking a coffee at home. The focaccia I picked was a cheese focaccia made with poblanos, kale, and queso fresco. That square pizza bread was a savory revelation where I devoured that as snack after heating it in our home toaster oven. It was cheesy, the poblanos and kale were tasty, and I completely agreed with my cousin's assessment about their pizza bread. We're so grateful to our cousins for taking valuable time to serve as our foodie tour guides during our trip to San Francisco. Bay Area denizens are blessed to have three bakeries where they can satisfy their pastry, dessert, and bread cravings. We're fans of Arizmendi's scones and pizza bread.

12.07.2025 - pizza - house-made tomato sauce w/ basil sunflower seed pesto. Forgot to take a photo before eating, whoops.

pizza of the day - The flavor of the day was house-made tomato sauce w/ basil sunflower seed pesto. The flavors on this pizza were spot on. Tomato sauce and pesto tasted fresh and balanced. But the star was the chewy yet crispy sourdough crust. Thin but thicker than a NY slice, this had chew, structure, crisp, and flavor. Would definitely come back to try more slices. chocolate chip cookie - This had crispy edges and a soft interior, a buttery cookie base, and the perfect amount of chocolate. One of the best chocolate chip cookies I've had in a while, would get it again.

I always pass by Arizmendi on the busy 9th and Irving street. Most recently, I wanted to try a selection of the savory goods. The store itself is quite small, with only a several people fitting inside at a time and with the majority standing outside. The wait was not too long on a Saturday afternoon, which was around 5 minutes. Bialy: I enjoyed the savory and caramlized onion filling with the seeds on top! It was delicious and chewy. Mushroom Tomato Focaccia: I loved the doughiness and chewiness of the bread, and it was airy witha crisp exterior. The toppings were plentiful, and I loved the blend between the mushroom and tomato. I can see why this spot is always popular at any time of day, with savory and sweet goods being made fresh daily!

Happy birthday Arizmendi! As always, a line out the door but the speediest and friendliest service, with nice cozy spots along the sidewalk to sit and enjoy your baked goods at. Swung by twice during their birthday weekend to try some of their specials - the chili oil bialy was tasty, though I daresay I prefer the original more; and both pizzas of the day - one potato and another triple mushroom, which came with a deliciously tart sesame vinaigrette that cut through the cheesy sourdough goodness were some of the best slices so far! I also got a seasonal scone which came with nice chunks of pear inside, as well as a pumpkin muffin - shockingly tender and fall apart without being overly moist. There's always a new seasonal goodie being made at Arizmendi, so I find myself coming by often to see what I can try each time. Truly a neighborhood staple, everyone should swing by!

I got half a pie of the pizza of the day which was house made tomato sauce, spinach feta, garlic oil, parsley, and Parmesan cheese. I enjoyed this flavor a lot but my sister prefers their mushroom pizza. They start making pizzas at 11:00am. The menu changes daily so look online and keep an eye on flavors you want to try. The staff have been kind each time I've came here. They have a good selection of bread.

Do they have bread for sandwiches for a party?

Yes, they have all kinds of breads, loaves, muffins, etc.

My daughter has an egg allergy, which things can we eat and which must we avoid?

How big are their pizza boxes? I am wondering whether they will fit in my refrigerator. Do it half pizzas come in a half sized box?

    Full sized box

Will there be a pumpkin cheesecake special order for November 2020?

Yes for $38 and must pre-order by 11/22. Check their website, it's there.

I bought 2 croissants yesterday and they didn't taste like traditional ones. They had slightly sour taste. Is that normal?

Yup, I was like "what the heck" the first time too! You gotta read the label carefully - they sell sourdough croissant, so like any sourdough it's slightly sour. Don't be concerned that it went bad!

    Open on July 4th?

Guessing yes since their website lists a pizza of the day flavor for the 4th. I'd call first.

I've been to Tony's a few times, and the first two times, my hub and I have left raving about it and telling all our friends and fam to get to Tony's. It's a l w a y s busy, even on weekdays, even in the middle of the work day. Reservations are smart! Parking is not easy but not impossible in the area. Without getting into the gnarly details, it wasn't fun and I've been grieving pizza since this new discovery. So why would I go to Tony's with this new allergy? Because! I read that they offer a gluten free, dairy free pizza. Insane I know, but yet they offer it and I was PUMPED. When asking the waiter what I can get based on my needs, he responded to me like I was a war criminal. He was a Caucasian gentleman with brown hair. He raised his voice for all the diners to hear about my allergies, told me I couldn't get any pizza, and when I pointed out that there were options, he told me "I'll triple check if this is possible for you." When he came back and confirmed it was possible, he tells me they can do a gluten free pizza with vegan cheese and vegan pepperoni. It felt like the moment he heard 'gluten' and 'dairy,' he mentally categorized me as 'vegan' and stopped looking for ways to make the experience enjoyable. Yikes! Lol I fully recognize - girl, why did you go to a pizza spot with a gluten and dairy allergy? Yes I am not okay for this hahah but also I felt pretty embarrassed and treated really poorly. This experience doesn't reflect Tony's as a whole, but it was just a terrible interaction and that waiter made it real clear that he has no patience for anything that is inconvenient during his work shift.

Here's how it went: Service: friendly. Once off hold on the phone, and when picking up, the staff was pleasant for sure. The space: convenient walk up counter. Love a good sticker wall, and the display was nice to have. Value: honestly reasonable, especially comparatively. Ordered a small cheese and a small garlic and clam and two people could for sure share a small. Taste: other recent reviews are hitting it on the head - while the garlic and clam was decent (3.5/5), the cheese struck a core memory of elementary school cafeteria pizza (just without the tiny pepperoni diced cubes, 2/5), and both were just lukewarm, soft/not at all crisp, and just weren't packing much flavor at all. I can see Golden Boy being a workable late night solution for the City that Goes To Bed Early, but not much else beyond that at this point. Rating 3 stars at places with nice people working is not my favorite, so I'm glad that it's an institution and has stood the test of time and truly hope that they can/will calibrate on elevating their formula here, because I want to see this place deserve the love it gets.

I also enjoyed their use of fresh basil and the grated Parmigiano-Reggiano they throw on at the end. It's kinda like a new york slice, but a little gourmet? Very tasty for sure. Critiques: First off, each slice is $6-7, which is a bit steep. Maybe times have changed, but this is def not a budget meal, especially if you are eating multiple slices. Second, some of their already crispy slices have been sitting on display for some time and completely cooled down. When these slices are then reheated, there is a bit of an overcooked taste? Lastly, they only have a few topping options and the quantity of toppings on each slice (especially protein) is pretty sparse. I also ordered a slice of the Sicilian as well to mix things up. It was good, but the crust was just a touch too greasy for me.

I went to the restroom, and while I was gone, the waitress approached my boyfriend while he literally had pizza in his mouth and a full beer in front of him and told him, "My chef said to charge you." He was confused but said okay because it made us wonder if they were closing. I checked the hours, and they weren't supposed to close until 10 PM--it was barely around 9 PM. I HADN'T EVEN ORDERED MY FOOD YET. I was still planning on ordering my own pizza, dessert, and a drink. Instead, we suddenly felt like we were being rushed to pay and leave. What made the situation even more unprofessional was that she left the payment device at our table for Apple Pay and then actually left the restaurant. She was the only server we had seen around, so we were basically left sitting there with the payment device and no server. We eventually had to get up ourselves to find someone so we could ask for boxes and return their payment device. No one had even asked whether we needed boxes, wanted anything else, or were finished ordering. My boyfriend didn't even finish his beer because at that point the entire vibe had changed and we just wanted to leave. We had driven an hour specifically to try this restaurant and were genuinely excited about it, which made the experience even more disappointing. I completely understand if a server's shift is ending, but there is a professional way to handle that--especially when customers are still actively eating and one person at the table hasn't even ordered yet. Someone could have simply explained that her shift was ending and introduced whoever would be taking over our table. Instead, we were made to feel like we needed to pay and leave. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the experience. We really wanted to like this place, but being treated this way after driving an hour to come here was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
