Greek salad and an original Gyro.
    Kirk H.

I love gyros, I've had them all over the state. There's a really good one at a place up in Peoria, but none of them compared to George's. The texture and flavor of the meat, the high-quality ingredients, etc.. as well as reasonably priced. And comes with Greek salad or fries, I always go out of my way to come to this place .

Fantastic spot for gyros, pastas, and salads! Super super fresh food, extremely reasonable prices, and warm and hospitable service. 10/10. Delicious. No website and the yelp menu pictures weren't great, so uploading menu here in clearer format for future customers.

I can't believe I've never been here before! The food is absolutely amazing. I got the Gyro Picado and it was phenomenal. The tzatziki might be the best I've ever had, and the salad on the side was a great portion and tasted delicious too. The gyro itself had SO much meat in it; I was very pleased. I have to say, when I opened up my Greek fries, I was a little disappointed to see that the sauce was vinegar based and I was expecting a creamy lemon sauce, but when I tried them, I was not disappointed anymore. So. Dang. Good. For the gyro, side salad and Greek fries, I spent just over $15 - a great deal nowadays. The place itself was cute too. You can tell it's been around for a while, but it was cozy. Nice little bar inside and a TV to watch sports on the other side and a cute little patio outside too. I will definitely be making regular visits here.

I've driven by here several times and finally decided to drop in. The restaurant is small and possibly decorated, but clean. The staff was very friendly. I ordered a gyro with fries. This was one of the best gyros I've had in awhile. I'm glad i stopped by and will do so again.

We have been coming to George's for years. It's in an old convenience store, and there's nothing fancy about this place. There is a small bar, but I've never actually seen anybody ordering anything from it or anyone manning the bar. Perhaps You have to ask? I've had many things here, but I almost always go back to the Greek salad with gyro meat. They're great dressing is really delicious and it's a very large salad. Of course their gyro pitas are also delicious and they are served with those kind of fat fries, smaller than steak fries and bigger than McDonald's fries. I've also had the spaghetti and meatballs - - I'm a sucker for meatballs of any kind and I like these ones, as well as the really good garlic bread. My son has had the burger, which I've tried. If I were in the mood for a burger this wouldn't be the place I'd come, but it was absolutely fine. Tip: be prepared for a crowd certain times and days. Georges is located very close to Mesa City Plaza, Mesa Police Department headquarters and the central station, along with a lot of other businesses. At noon during the week (Monday through Thursday) there can be a long line and sometimes it's difficult to find a table.

Amazing Gyros here. They claim the best in Arizona and they may have a few other States beat. Simple Greek food with some American options. Gyro and fries for me.

We were greeted by two friendly faces and asked if we visited before. The person behind the counter explained their array of offerings and was patient while we made a selection. There are a variety of donut flavors from plain to strawberry shortcake. In addition to donuts, they offer breakfast sanwiches, coffee, ice-cream, and cocktails. They also have a donut and beer flight! A bit spendy for a donut at $3.85 each or 4 for $15, but honestly, compared to other specialty donuts I've tried, this is worth it! The space was clean with plenty of seating. It was inviting and felt like a nice place to hang out for a bit. We opted for the maple as that's my go-to flavor and it did not disappoint! It was certainly sweet, but the glaze was well done. The layers are flaky, but also offered a bit of density, making the whole thing texturally enjoyable. We had to stop ourselves from indulging in another so as to not ruin our appetite, but we would certainly recommend and visit again!

The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick. Now, onto my order- a bagel and iced tea. The iced tea was great, no comments, and the bagel was absolutely delicious! There is also a nice parking garage accessible via the alleyway between buildings under the apartments (see photo). Atmosphere 5/5 This is a One-off small business cute cafe rating. There is season appropriate seating curbside in front on Main Street. Today we enjoyed our takeout dessert in front it was such a neat overcast day. On the inside there are item for sale on small wall shelves in the dining room and freezer refrigerators giving it a small town vibe. There are approximately 6-8 tables for eat in service. As the summer temperatures arrive these tables will become even more in demand. This is a quaint Gluten Free eatery with a nice selection offered in menu. Service 5/5 This is a take menu to table, decided then return to counter to order. Orders are delivered to your table. Helping us today was Paula. She was the ambassador to the restaurant who welcomed us immediately. She asked if we've been in before and once we responded no, she thoughtfully walked us through everything including the Gluten Free information. Food 5/5 Both of us were hungry for breakfast and we were ready for this new experience. Coffee was severed in large and individually unique cups. Coffee was nice. 4-Eats we ordered for inside service; a powdered sugar Waffle and I ordered their biscuits and sausage gravy. Sides were two eggs over easy and two sausage patties for additional protein. Desert were two oatmeal cookie pies the we enjoyed curbside in front. Our breakfast choices were fantastic. For mine I ordered too much because the sausage in the gravy would have been sufficient due to their generous serving size. I will order the same thing less the two Patties. Desert 5/5 Our picks were delicious and will require another extra 30 minutes in the gym! $67.90 includes generous tip for excellent service! If you're in the Downtown Mesa area put "Against the Grain" on your list of places to eat. Eat well my friends-SYOY!

Upon entering he asked if I was there for the pickup and I advised I wanted to place an order for to go. He was kind enough to take my order and direct me to their menu. I opted for a gyro sandwich thinking it would be a simple request. He not only took my order, but went to back to gather the ingredients to prepare on the grill. Once he compiled my order he even gave me an unexpected bonus (extra bread that was freshly heated up). The sandwich was amazing. Whatever the veggie combo is and dressing along with the ample, well seasoned gyro meat is...awesome. You won't go away hungry, I'm fact, I only ate 1/2, and saved the other for lunch the next day. I get there's a labor shortage, but there was one person behind the counter who was new and seemed to be the only person there. She was so new that she couldn't answer questions about the menu items. She was also left to do all of the cooking by herself. We were the only two people in the restaurant, and it took 30 minutes to get food that wasn't good. The meat was dry, and the fried cauliflower was soggy and seemed old. The online menu indicated choices for the plates, but we weren't asked about choices of salad or rice. In fact, the online menu was more informative than anything they had in store. Speaking of the menu...as you can see in the photo for this Yelp page, the prices on the displayed menu were covered up. With inflation, I'm sure they had to raise prices, but at least put the new ones up. We asked for a menu with prices, but the person had to search for one, explaining again that she was new. I initially gave this restaurant two stars because we did eventually get food that was passably edible, but then, I remembered the prices. My passably edible shwarma combo was $15.
