The bacon taste like pork (make me wanna do the rappers delight). " Have u ever been over a friends house to eat --and the food just aint no good, the macaroni's soggy, the peas are mushed, and the Chicken taste like wood" LOL.. This was kind of like our experience with their food. no seasoning no nothing. but it's a good place to go since most places close so early around there. I came here for lunch with a group of 6. There is plenty of seating here, downstairs and upstairs. They have a big TV on the 2nd floor. This place has a wide assortment of food, from burgers, sandwiches, pasta, pizza etc. It pretty much fits almost all diets. I had the shrimp linguini, it comes with soup or salad and garlic knots. The portions were decent, but the shrimp didn't seem to be fresh and it was breaded shrimp. There was a lot of oil in this dish, more than i expected. It's a good place for large groups and it can probably even fit the appetite of picky eaters like me. It's a decent lunch spot. read more

despite some of the bad reviews, i came here on my trip to nyc and it was right around the corner from my hotel, so walking distance is perfect! anyways, the food was SO GOOD. idk why ppl were complaining, but they might've just had a bad day lol. i got home fries with fried onions and green peppers and cheese eggs. my boyfriend got pancakes, turkey bacon, and cheese eggs. We shared everything. the pancakes were A1, literally everything we needed them to be. Our eggs and home fries were also delicious. The home fries were so flavorful. The OJ? it was freshly squeezed and SO yummy. Usually freshly squeezed OJ can be a little sour but their's was made with the sweetest oranges lmao (i assume). My boyfriend loved his coffee, he got refills lol. The only thing I didn't appreciate was that my tea cup was dirty around the rim. The food was good! I got the Turkey BLT, and it was YUM! For delivery when you're in the office all day you are wishing for a good tasty sa'mich and George's delivered it. My issue was they didn't include anything such as mayonnaise pepper salt forks napkins... nothing of the such even though I requested it specifically it when I ordered it... Georges was recommended by the front desk clerk @ the Downtown Marriott; what a great suggestion it was. We ended up eating there both mornings we were in the financial district. The breakfasts are large portions and served fresh and fast, the service was outstanding and friendly. My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting George (the owner), what a nice guy. Its nice to see an independent owner working hard to serve quality and very tasty food in such clean restaurant. If you like sausage give theirs a try, you wont be sorry. Big menu, benedicts available, decent service. But the place is very ungracious and the food is the very epitome of a greasy spoon. Just greasy, low quality food. They evidently do well because they have long hours and a big menu. These things are plusses, of course, but you really need better food. Prices are reasonable, but that's not enough if the food is greasy. I presume all the very positive reviews are from folks who expect, or are happy with, greasy spoons. It is a choice to aspire to something better, so I don't want to detract from the fact that they are well served, but if you expect slightly more upscale food (given the upscale neighborhood), you won't walk out of here happy. If you're going for lunch, the food in Hudson Eats (second floor of Brookfield Place/ Liberty & S. End Ave.) is way better. But they will not serve you a breakfast at 8 am on Sunday (mostly lunch & dinner, nothing really for breakfast there). Way better breakfast at Beans & Greens, but only M-F. Even better, less greasy, breakfast food at Devon & Blakely, although there's no seating there. read more

I love the corn muffins here. Get one toasted with butter. It's delicious. The fresh squeezed OJ is great too. They also do turkey bacon exactly as I like it: salty, crispy, and breakin in my mouth. George's was a great find! Super close to our hotel in the Financial District and right down the street from the Freedom Tower. They have a huge selection of food and the prices were amazing - definitely a surprise for a restaurant in NYC! Seriously - my friend & I both ate an amazing big breakfast for under $25 total. Can't beat it! The service was also great & I totally would have been cool with going back there for lunch or dinner. Next time you are in the area, try George's! Lots of calories at a reasonable price, but quality is not good enough to quality George's as "good value" to me. If you don't worry about calories or not spoiled by fancier brunch places, George's might be an ok option for you - service is good, menu is extensive, and portions are huge. read more

Went here for breakfast and ordered the yogurt parfait and oatmeal. Both were kinda Meh...oatmeal was especially meh. Service was pretty awful: our server was surly and slow and unhelpful... the owner did notice the impatient/unsatisfied looks on our faces and came over himself to apologize and try to rectify things, which I thought was really sweet, and I felt merited one extra star... Was convenient to where we were staying (at the W) and had outdoor patio seating, which merited the additional star. We do not plan on returning next time we're in NY. read more

I went to this place to grab some breakfast so I ordered a poppyseed loaf slice and a cinnamon bagel. To drink I got a vanilla latte. Andddddd... first of all the guy who made it was super nice and smiley which I appreciated and the latte was SOOOO good. He said "starbucks won't make you this good of a latte" boy was he right. I do like starbucks vanilla lattes but this latte was a whole new level, It was so creamy and just amazing! They cut the bagel into 8 little squares which I loved!! The only thing was they put a ton of cream cheese on it so make sure you tell them light cream cheese if you get a bagel lol! Sooo cute tho and I loved this place :) read more

This place sucks! You don't get everything you ordered! We ordered from this place via SeamlessWeb. The Honey Mustard Chicken sandwich is supposed to come with french fries and coleslaw ($10). But we didn't get them when the order arrived. We called to see what happened, and they said they didn't have space to put them and now both ran out... at 8pm on a Monday. Seriously? Ok, day 2 in the financial district. Tried another diner for breakfast...and it was ok. Fast, efficient, staff. Meals were a little on the high side, but it is New York. Typical diner breakfast - eggs, toast, bacon. I had fruit salad again - more variety than your typical melon and grapes. Nice! Husband's eggs, toast, bacon, hash browns...ok. Not great, but good. While we were finishing breakfast two NYPD guys stopped in...so the locals do eat here. Good is all I can come up with. Nothing special. Not bad. Not great. read more

Definitely will visit George's again when back downtown. I now live out of state so my mom and I get together for day trips in the city, so when I wanted to take her to a spa downtown I needed to scout out a place to eat, as we usually aren't down this way, especially at breakfast time. Found George's on Yelp and liked what I saw, especially considering the owner/staff seem to be up to date in checking and responding to Yelp reviews - I like that :) did not give five stars because I wasn't blown away by anything in particular, but definitely good diner food at a cool little spot downtown with a nice staff. Anyway, we were on a tight schedule and although it looked very busy, we were seated quickly at a table on the second floor. Very New York style seating - lots of it and close together, so if you're looking for an 'intimate setting' this isn't the place; we were sat next to a young guy that was buy himself and he was super nice so it was a pleasant experience. We were going to the spa and wanted to eat light - after seeing everyone else's Belgium waffles and pancake stacks we immediately regretted it, as it all looked AMAZING. I got eggs, bacon, home fries and toast - easy-peasy. First and foremost, LOVED the bacon. It's some kind of pepper-flavored bacon and was very tasty! I like my scrambled eggs well done (hard) and they were perfect; not 'wet' as you usually get even when you ask for hard. We had a big debate as to what kind of potatoes were used for the home fries, as they were very yummy but not the 'standard' russet or white - we're guessing Yukon Gold just based on the color. (again, I definitely will be trying the waffle next time - looked VERY tasty!) Mom got fried eggs with sausage links and some toast and it was also good. Sausage links weren't massive but they were thicker, so when cooked they sliced them in half which she likes - gives them a little extra crispiness. Eggs were (I believe) over medium and she was happy with how they turned out; was able to dip her toast in the yolk and finished it all up. Service was good - our waiter was very nice and everything came out exactly as ordered. I felt bad for the one woman who every time she walked by seemed to be right after I dropped some piece of silverware, and before I could even budge she was running to pick it up and I appreciated that. Hostess was very nice and, even though she was very busy, she made sure to wish us well as we were leaving - it's the little things like that which make you want to come back! We had breakfast here two days in a row! Both days we did not have to wait to be seated, the service was good and the food was delicious. We fully expected to pay higher prices than our normal because it is NYC and everything is more expensive here. The restaurant is small but clean. Overall, a decent, hearty meal for the money! We came to George's for lunch after a trip to Ellis island on a 90 degree day and I expected it to be the kind of place my risk averse (when it comes to new restaurants) wife and kids would think was just OK. What we got was standard lunch fare, really well executed. The kids had spaghetti and meatballs that were excellent by their (and my) standards, plus milk, and dark chocolate ice cream. In their estimation, this is the best meal they have had in NYC. My wife got the grilled chicken pesto sandwich in a pita and it was way better than expected- warm soft pita with great filling. Food and service is terrible. Ordered oatmeal which didn't even come with any flavor or fruit. It was just a bowl of flavorless oatmeal. The omelette I ordered ended up costing $20 because the server added extra substitution charges such as replacing sausage for turkey sausage and charging me extra for onions when the omelette didn't even have the onions or me even ordering onions. To make things worse, the egg also had egg shells in it. The waiters seem like the bus boys and the owners needs to figure his place out. If you are not a tourist, don't bother going into this place. I rather go to McDonalds for breakfast. The server was completely rude and ignored me (as me telling him I didn't even order onions on the egg and him charging me for it but then completely ignoring me). read more

I'm visiting new york and my family and I wanted to go grab some breakfast shortly after we arrived at the hotel. We walked about a mile and it was totally worth it. The waiters and waitresses made us feel comfortable and were very friendly. This feels like the kind of place where everyone knows everyone. My boyfriend and I went here this morning for breakfast and while the food was delicious, the service was AWFUL!!!! After we were seated, it took our server 10 minutes to even acknowledge us ... and another 5 minutes to get a cup of coffee. He never checked on us once, we had to ask another server for coffee top-ups and I could see him at the side of the restaurant texting on his phone the entire time. He only had a few tables and it took him 15 minutes to bring us the bill after we had asked for it. So annoying when you're trying to have a quick breakfast before the million things you have planned in New York that day! Too bad really. I know the consensus is three stars but we had a 2-1/2 star experience, and we're rounding down. On the plus side, the location is on a corner and it looks like a good diner from the outside with lots of menus etc trying to draw you in. But there were major demerits to the place: 1. Our waiter tried to give my friend strawberry yogurt for the blueberry that was ordered. As it looked like strawberry, we asked and he said they were out. He should have not brought the wrong one in the first place. He didn't apologize and wasn't very upfront about it. It was also a tiny amount of yogurt and was a rip-off in my view at about $3. 2. I'm also feeling they gave us regular coffee instead of the decaf. He showed the black coffee pot but pointed to a tiny label on it that said "decaf." It kept me up all night. It was $2. 3. The place is small inside. While the front door has an enclosure to help keep the place a little warm, they started using the other door which blows a ton of cold air inside when it opens. After that kept ruining our talk, we paid and left. 4. There are other places around and will try them. Seeing that the owner comments on negative reviews, no we're not planning to go for lunch! read more
