Service was excellent at George's. We had brunch here on a visit and everybody was so kind, helpful, and willing to get you whatever you needed. The space is a bit cramped inside but we managed to grab a seat outside. The food was okay - nothing to write home about. I got the breakfast sandwich and the toast didn't have any butter or cheese - it was just dry bread with some sausage and a fried egg on top (very dry). My husband said the patty melt was just fine. It's a good spot to just grab a bite if you're hungry and the prices are fine. But all in all the word I use for this place is...fine. read more

Going for breakfast there is good. My family and I have been going there for years. Last time we were there, the service was great and it was not too crowded. The chicken fingers my nephew ordered were not good at all. They were too greasy and they just did not look or tasted right. Although we told our waitress, she nodded and said "Okay, do you want me to packet so you can give it to a homeless?" We were charged for it although it was obvious that after a small bite, my nephew (who can eat literally anything) was not able to eat them the big chunks of greasy "chicken." Throughout the first and second floor, everywhere you looked had a yellow-themed item. The waiter was great and quickly got our order. He checked in on us as needed to make sure everything is going well. I got the Eggs Benedict. It came with a side of potatoes. The visual appeal can use some improvement. The Eggs Benedict was not memorable because it lacked seasoning. I had to drown the Eggs Benedict in Tabasco sauce. The potatoes were bland which I could not finish. I hate wasting food and never have leftovers, but I just could not bring myself to finish them. Overall, I would not come here again for the food unless there's changes, but the service was awesome. We were in a semi-rush to get a sit down breakfast and George's got us in and out within 30 minutes. There's both upstairs and downstairs seating and we got a seat on the upper floor right away. They have plastic dividers placed in between each table, presumably for Covid precautions. The decor is totally retro and upbeat. The menu is quite large and includes many standard breakfast diner options. We got an egg sandwich with sausage and a Spanish wrap. The Spanish wrap was a lot spicier than I had anticipated- it was substantial but I would probably skip it next time since I don't want to burn my mouth first thing in the morning. The egg sandwich is just as you would expect: fried egg in between white bread, and we added a sausage link inside. We appreciated the fast service. read more

The french toast was very decadent. We wanted bacon side and got Canadian bacon, sadly. My create your own omelette was good but insanely priced; every add on was $2.50 or more. $2.50 for a few tomatoes? $2.50 for a few onions? Benvenuto is $.75 add on for each veggie. My sourdough toast was burned and the home fries were uncooked and not edible. We didn't order the crepe or blintz and it came anyways. Had a bite; was good. The toast was an additional $2.75. Mediocre at best...for a "diner" it certainly doesn't have the food or ambiance of one. The chocolate milkshake tasted like it was mixed with water and did not taste like chocolate much. EVERYTHING with cheese is slapped with a good ol square slice of American cheese and they don't hide it...the cheese fries we ordered literally came out with melted slices on top. I wish I had taken a photo lol. The fries were crispy at least. The bacon cheeseburger was plentiful but DRY. It does not come with any condiments. No mayo, mustard, nothing. There is ketchup at the table. The onion rings don't bother. They were so freezer burnt that when fried it tasted as if there were no onion inside. Was a little disappointed overall. It was around 4:30 PM after we visited 9/11 memorial and we were super hungry. Since we skipped the lunch and breakfast had just a cup of coffee half granola bar since the morning. We were looking for a breakfast like food and bingo we found this diner. Read about the history and impact of 9/11 on this place and how they came back. We walked to the corner and there it was, looked very promising since it is doing good since 1950. At the entrance there is a bakery with many pastry and savory options. The place looked really authentic like one scene in old movies, I liked the vibe. The menu was HUGEEE...... Looked like they have omelets, sandwiches, pastas, burgers, shakes, mocktails, tacos and what not. There were enough vegetarian option as well. Finally I ordered a strawberry milkshake and veggie melt sandwich. Strawberry shake was tasty and not extremely sweet. However, it didn't feel like fresh strawberries one, it tasted more like one made with syrup and icecream. The sandwich was also not like a traditional sandwich, I was surprised (not in good way) to see 90% broccoli and 5% carrots on a pita bread with melted cheddar. It was neither written on the menu nor told at the of placing the order. I was super psyched about eating at this place but din't like the food much. After all this next surprise came in the bill where they charged 20% gratuity for 2 people and something called other charges. We ended up paying $60+ for a drink and two plates. Came here for takeout and it was pretty disappointing. I ordered a toasted everything bagel for cream cheese. The bagel was tasty but, they put almost no cream cheese. There wasn't even the glob in the middle that I could spread out. It was a small tiny dab in the middle. In my years of this life i have ate a lot of burgers, many, some call me the greatest burger eater of all time. When I walked into this restraunt and pryed open this beautiful menu l was flabbergasted by the shear amount of things on the menu, just a great assortment of things. Italian, Mexican, Greek, American Breakfast and of course, American lunch. It came to a long time of carefully surveying the menu but I came to the resolution of what I'll be getting. Philly Cheese Steak Fries, but of course with the fries I must have a burger. So I got a simple Bacon Cheeseburger. Not long at all after I ordered the food I came very quickly, with much haste. I ate the Philly Cheese Steak Fries. They were fantastic. Then came the burger, after the amazing fries I was expecting a good burger. My expectations were blown out of the roof. The second I bit into this burger I knew it was special. Best Cheeseburger I have ever ate. On a note apart from the food, the customer service was fantastic, super kind and were quick for refills. Go to this place. Treasure it. Enjoy it. Don't take it for granted. Enjoy every second. Respect eveyone here and have a great time. We were in NYC for Easter, and sadly, this was our last stop before heading home. The two previous mornings the line here was down the sidewalk, so we decided to give it a try Sunday morning. George's was right across the street from our hotel, located in lower Manhattan. This was Easter morning, and it was not quite as busy. There was still a line, and about a 20 minute wait. We were fine with that and we were seated upstairs in about 15 minutes. Service was lovely. We all got waters and drinks quickly. The food also came out quickly after ordering. We all had omelets and they were pretty good. I would like to try some of their other traditional breakfast offerings. However, breakfast for us in NYC will depend on which part of the city we are staying in. read more

If I could give George's a zero rating, I would. Lousy! I met a friend there for lunch last Friday. I ordered the mixed veggie dish. It was served as a salad, which wasn't made clear on the menu. The broccoli was clearly thawed from frozen, not fresh at all, nor was the corn. These were plopped on a bed of iceberg lettuce. Absolutely disgusting! And they have the nerve to charge $18.50 for it. They should be ashamed of themselves. My friend had a burger, which he finished. The service was good, and the ambiance was OK for a diner. This was my first visit to George's. It was a Monday at 10:30am. I ordered the George's Steak Sandwich. While upstairs, I was asked how I wanted the steak cooked and the style of eggs. I went with medium and sunny side up as described in the menu. I enjoyed my meal while barely making out 80's music over the chatter and watching an articulated bus make a tight turn outside. I also had the option of watching the Cooking Channel on television if I moved my seat. Everardo provided top notch help. The large open-faced sandwich started out as a platter since there was too much on it. After reducing it to a manageable size, I was then able to start eating what was still a giant hero. We were on the tail end of our vacation in NYC. One of our last stops was the 911 Memorial and Statue of Liberty. I found this restaurant and chose it for 3 reasons: 1) It's history. It's been around since 1950. 2) It's a small family owned business; my favorite type of business to patronize. 3) It's slow food. Not fast food junk. A nice sit down kind of place. We were staying at the Club Quarters Hotel World Trade Center. George's is less than a 5 minute walk away which is so convenient. Our first visit we were there around 8:30a-9a and we were seated straight away on the 2nd floor. There were only two other parties there. We ordered coffees, the Italian omelet and the Waffle Super Deluxe. My husband loved his omelet and I loved my waffle. My waffle was definitely freshly made, crispy and firm on the outside and light & airy inside. It came served with whipped butter and slightly warmed syrup. The grilled ham and the sausages were delightful. The service was great and we left fully satisfied. Our 2nd visit, we arrived at 11:40a. If you don't like crowds, I recommend you arrive early morning since the place was packed! We didn't wait long and we were seated on the 2nd floor. This time every table was occupied. I ordered the French toast super deluxe, freshly squeezed orange juice and hubby ordered the protein omelet & coffee. The freshly squeezed orange juice was so refreshing. It was served in a chilled glass and no ice. The best way to get your money's worth and enjoy to the last drop. Hubby enjoyed his protein omelet but he really wished he'd gotten an omelet with cheese. His fault not theirs. Again, service was great. We did wait a minute for the check but we figured it was busy so hubby just approached a server and paid at the terminal upstairs. We are really happy we found this place and would definitely come back. Lastly, off topic. I appreciate the fact this business responds to all reviews not just good ones.
