The only reason I am giving this establishment stars at all is because of their drinks and desserts. The waiter was friendly. Fillet was cooked well... but it tasted more like butter than anything a tender steak. They do not have a vast majority of sides to choose from. For a high-end restaurant, I wasn't impressed with the corn that was served, it's more like a corn medley from Chili's. Beef carpaccio is not your traditional beef carpaccio. It had an Asian fusion taste to it. The waiter explained it was supposed to taste like you were eating at a Pho restaurant. Not exactly what I expected at all. I hesitate to leave a negative review after just 1 visit. It could have been an off-night. But then I spoke to another friend who went recently. She used to love Georgia James. I guess they changed ownership recently and all changes they've made have been negative. I was not impressed by the value, wait staff and food. I ordered a salad and it was abysmally small. Like the size of a side salad but it cost $16! I would rather go to Granger, where the salads are larger and more flavorful. I also got a raspberry tart that had the soggiest crust ever. The tart had split and was chunky and not smooth. I would not recommend. I also like having hot tea with my desserts. The waiter told me "we don't serve hot tea." Really? It's just hot water and a tea bag. I've never come across a restaurant in Houston that doesn't serve hot tea. We were also not impressed by the steak. There is much better elsewhere. With so much competition in Houston, I don't know how a restaurant like this will survive. On a random note, at some point during the restaurant, when my water was not being filled quickly enough, I had my reusable water bottle on the table. The gulf oysters where so much better than the east coast. They where nice and briny. So we splurged for the baller board for 6 people. It is expensive but it is an experience. The a5 wagyu was of course exceptional. Unlike omakase menus in my experience where you might have a miss with a particular dish, this doesn't have that. It is an omakase dinner at a steakhouse. I really wanted to like the food at Georgia James but I just couldn't. The exterior of the restaurant is really classy and elegant. Located in a posh neighborhood near Upper Kirby Houston, it is enclosed by a nice apartment complex and surrounding high end businesses. There is complimentary self parking in the nearby shared garage but you can valet as well. Greeters immediately opened the doors and warmly welcomed us in for our reservation. The atmosphere was of course, an inviting white tablecloth occasion without seemingly being pretentious. Maybe the pop rock music in the background helped lol. Our host was so helpful with explaining all the menu items since it was our first time. It unfortunately disappointed when our food actually arrived. We ordered the gulf coast oysters and the oyster meat looked quite small. It was mostly oyster juice, which I'd have to say was really fresh but bland and I didn't get any of the actual oyster. Luckily, the tangy lemony sauce that came with it complimented it well to give it some seasoning. It also came with unlimited butter crackers, which honestly, was the highlight of the night if I'm being honest. We then had the TX strip steak precut and ribeye. My date's ribeye was okay, though again he said it was on the plainer side, but still it ranked wayyy higher than my order by far. My TX strip was super bland and it looked passed the point of being made well done. It tasted like I was eating burnt chewy pieces of beef jerky. Mostly salt and grease and not a lot of texture. The food was incredible but I wanted to comment on the service. Our waiter, Greg, was one of the best waiters I have ever had. We told him we were pescatarian and he was fully prepared with recommendations, adjustments to menu items etc. He made himself available throughout our dining experience. I recall saying, or at least thinking, what in the f&*% did we just do to ourselves as we finished ordering and the table looked at one another??!? We balled out recently one night as we finished a home move and decided we wanted to treat ourselves and friend who we suckered into free labor. After seeing the baller board recently on IG, I called to get the 411. Though I intended to grab takeout in all honesty, the guy on the phone and I apologize I forgot his name, convinced me we'd be missing out on the experience not to come dine in. My wife, myself and 5-year-old get take out all the time, we had not been out since March however due to Covid, and what a way to cannonball back into the pool. Forget dipping a toe in Georgia James has your safety as a primary concern. The staff were all awesome, and at no time did I really feel regret for having come out of our hobbit hole. If you're unsure about dining out, I'd say you're pretty safe here. Alright, enough with the boring stuff, we arrive and are seated directly in front of the kitchen. The staff are excited, we're excited and we jump right in. We started with cocktails, the Viet cajun oysters, and the most insane bowl of french onion soup. Before long wine was ordered and the staff came to expand the size of our table. As the staff built the board, we got to watch it all come together, and quite promptly mind you, began to get nervous. This thing had it all, literally all the sides and proteins you could order. The dry aged 44 farms bone in ribeye, was enough for 3 by itself, as was the wet aged Waygu. I really couldn't tell you which one I preferred more in the end, but you ain't gonna be mad with either. We were also served the most insane amount of Alaskan king crab legs I care to ever admit I ate, and some bomb ass fried chicken to really push that belt buckle. We finished the dinner with the apple pie and desert wines, got our check and rolled out of there. My partners in crime, I mean dining partners and I will usually jokingly take wagers on what our bill will be before it arrives. Not gonna lie, we blew it on this one and way undershot it. Great ambiance and not too bad food. I ordered lobster, grouper, rib eye, and tuna tarte for entrees. For the sides, we ordered Brussels spouts, Viet Cajun Oysters, roasted mushrooms, smashed potatoes, and charred corn. All I can say is I loved every bite of my lobster. The corn stuffing they added to the head was just ok, but the lobster was delicious. I'm not a red meat person, but the bite I tried of the rib eye was perfectly seasoned. The Viet oysters were by far the best item. I wanted more but knew my entree was coming, so I couldn't eat anymore, but I sure did want to. The only things I did not like were the mushrooms and the beef drippings that they served with the sourdough roll, but the presentation was excellent. The drippings came with a candle wick to keep the drippings liquified. The mushrooms were bland and did not meet my expectations, but the roasted corn and the smashed potatoes were terrific. The flavor combination was on point. My mouth is watering thinking about them now. I did not care for the fish dish. I believe it was an Asian fusion with Szechuan peppers. When you're seated there's a candle burning on the table, which serves double duty as dipping oil for the bread. The smashed potatoes were delicious and the steak was cooked to perfection. I'm typically not a fan of dessert, but if you like peanut butter and banana, don't pass up on the roasted banana pie. First of all this place had a change of ownership not long ago. Let me tell you, before it was starting to lower in quality and service but now with new management there a lot of things that have improved greatly. First the space is renovated and it feels very elegant and cozy. Mane changed for the good. They kept their best dishes and introduced new ones that are delicious. Georgia James - a disappointment. Ambiance: The restaurant is luxurious and located in a prime spot. The restaurant gives off a classy feel and the decor is high-end. The two greeters were warm and welcoming - which was unfortunately, the best service my group and I received last night. Food: Highlight of the night was the Farmer's Cut salad with a tangy vinaigrette and the chocolate ganache cake cake with a scoop of coffee/mocha ice cream. The cake was rich and paired well with a glass of pinot noir. The strip steak was forgettable. Service: Our party had a side event room reserved for a dinner program and the service was rocky from the start. I ordered a glass of wine at the beginning of dinner and had to remind the server to bring me my glass over an hour after the program had completed. The service was very rushed and our multiple servers were distracted and inattentive. The gentleman who was in charge of refilling our water glasses was the sole attentive and courteous server we had this evening. At the close of dinner, our party had to alert two different servers at multiple times to close us out - we had an almost 20 minute delay and there was a separate engagement we were late for due to the delay. We miss the old location where the ambience was smaller and cozy and the service and food unmatched. We celebrated my husband's birthday here last night, and the service was great until we brought to their attention that my mom's ribeye had a lot of gristle and tendon throughout. It was hard to cut and almost inedible. The manager stopped by and seemed annoyed and offended. The server came by once more to let us know that they would be replacing the ribeye, and after that, he never checked on us again or brought the drink we requested. We had to wait nearly half an hour for our check. Houston's restaurant scene is much too competitive for this petty type of attitude and service. Our table's host was friendly and made a few drink recommendations. For a high end steak house, and with little to no dinner rush, it took the bar 25 minutes to get 3 drinks out. We decided to order three starters: Crab claws with nam jin sauce and papaya salad. The papaya was extremely bitter, and we alerted our host to let the chef know. The carrot salad was great, and plated prettily. The octopus salad was not memorable. Tender and cold slices of octopus but fell short to alleviate the ingredient. Main: We decided to order the "baller board" per their website's recommendation, and restaurant critics. It is chef's choice sampler board of steaks and sides. When we had asked what goes on it, they never clarified that we would be charged restaurant price per item on the board and not a set price. For what we paid...I was hoping to get dry aged wagyu as a sampling, however, that was no where to be seen. The fish (snapper) was good, so was the potato au gratin, but could have done without the roasted chicken, plain mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. The steaks were done right, and the seafood wasn't overcooked. Dessert: The fried pecan pie was okay. Nothing exciting. We came here for the first time last weekend on their last Saturday in the 1100 Westheimer spot. We have been wanting to come here for a while and we were not disappointed. We got the baller board for the four of us and it was something to be seen - not only was the chef's selection outstanding but words can't describe how amazing it was to have this brought to our table. From the bottom up in the picture, tenderloin and steakhouse helper, smashed and fried potatoes, porterhouse, potato and eggs topped with caviar, stuffed lobster, snapper, and brussel sprouts. Steaks were well seasoned and cooked perfectly, lobster and fish were pretty solid, and all of the sides were good. One thing we could have done without was the caviar - I mean it's good, but for $200 I would have rather had another steak. We had a decent amount of food leftover and they offered to pack it up for us. Every dish was boxed individually, split between the two couples. I was very impressed with the care taken. The bacon sausage hash browns were pretty good, hash browns were nice and crispy, sausage was smokey -- just what you'd expect them to be at a higher-end restaurant. The Viet-Cajun oysters kind of missed the mark, they lacked the spice that viet-Cajun seafood usually has. They were oysters swimming in garlic butter and sprinkled green onion. For our entrees I got the ribeye and my wife got the king crab legs. Our sides were the smashed and fried new potatoes, the fried brussels sprouts, and the fried onion masala. The fried onion masala was fun and honestly surprisingly went great with the steak. The masala really came through and the turmeric yogurt added some nice acidity and freshness to it, but it needed more of it. Brussel sprouts were good, nice and charred and sweet. The potatoes were okay. My steak's peppercorn crust was too much, I'm all for more black pepper on a steak but it could have been dialed back a bit. Other than that the temperature was perfect. The king crab legs were too salty and generally unimpressive. The reason I say it was just "okay" was because we were expecting more. The dishes we got were very fatty and salty, and one dimensional; there was little to no acidity, spice, or sweetness (save for the brussels sprouts).
