About 3 years back, I shopped around for the best price on a Hyundai. After having received an email from a sales rep at Gerald with the best deal out of the dealerships I went to, I decided to go. As I'm signing paperwork, I find that they are not giving me the deal I was promised. I was told my credit score wasn't good enough (over 730 at the time). I was told that no dealership would be able to give me the deal that they had originally promised with the credit score I had. As I'm about to walk out, they stop me and agree to make the deal. I told them that it was too late and that I was walking. They then gave me a better deal than they originally promised. I took the deal. Fast forward to a month ago and I'm bringing my car in for a recall. They tried to sell me on two things I didn't need: a $145 fuel induction service and a $118 max "break" [brake] service. My car has less than 30k miles on it. Bottom line is if you don't know much about negotiating or car maintenance, you might want to bring someone with you who does to this dealership. read more

I always have issues with them. I keep trying and never any better. First time went to look at purchasing a new car. I was very up front and said was NOT buying one that day. They were pushy and rude. Then I had an engine issue and needed a new engine. Took 6 weeks to install and couple times I went to lot to get something out of car, the car was found unlocked on their lot and last time we had to drive around to find it cause they werent sure where it was. This last time called for a service call. They said the recall I had on the vehicle didnt affect my car and it did and also no appointments until late September! read more

I got a great deal on my new Subaru Crosstrek hybrid at Gerald hyundai! (I drove 2 hours) It's used (2014), and I didn't know when I drove it on a test drive that it wasn't perfect. But this is where Nick Smiley (gen manager) really shined! He let me know what was wrong with it upfront, and his nothing. He simply said don't worry, this Will be like a new car when we are done. I was very skeptical to say the least. I bought my car the night before Thanksgiving, and they kept it until it was completely fixed last Thursday. Each time they thought it was fixed, it threw another code and they took it back into the shop until no more lights came on! All of this cost me nothing! They also threw in a complete brand new pair of tires, an alignment, and a beautiful detail job! I also got an amazing bumper to bumper warrantee from them! My experience with them couldn't have been better and my Crosstrek runs like a champ! I've since put over 1000 miles on it, and it's still running like the day I brought it home! I am mentioning all of this because I couldn't be happier, and if you are going to get a car this winter, it's worth a drive up to North Aurora to see Chris Smiley (gm). Gerald also has several different new car dealers in it's group all under the Gerald name. My brother just drove into Wisconsin to buy a car, and says he wishes he had bought his here. They were extremely attentive, professional, and yet very friendly and accommodating. The general manager Mike Chino, I cannot give enough accolades to describe the services extend it to me by him. My husband's Sonata has been in the shop for two weeks now. Promised that the a/c fan would be in on 9/11 but found out today that it should be in on 9/17 but not given any guarantee. No loaner vehicle available. Service dept should never have told us about the 9/11 date. It seems they are just throwing dates around and blaming COVID for the problem. They should never have given us the 9/11 date. They should be providing us with a loaner vehicle since they lied about the 9/11 date. I booked a service appointment in early November for December 21st knowing how hard it is to get an appointment a few weeks out. When I booked I had a ride and selected "drop off". On the day of the appointment I had forgotten this and had planned to wait. The service advisor did not ask if I was dropping off or waiting but I did ask where the waiting room was and proceeded to wait on site. I sat in the waiting room for 4 1/2 hours, assuming the break pads and oil change were just taking a long time. This is not the first time I've waited for more than 3 hours. No one addressed, acknowledged , or spoke with me during that time. Frustrated , I spoke with my advisor who went to the back to check. Because I was listed as a drop off, they got to it late. I was told it would take an additional hour to hour and a half. i spent over six hours in the waiting room. I should have spoken up sooner but customer service there has to improve for other customers. I don't think I'll be returning and I'd recommend any other dealership. read more

I purchased a car from this dealership on 9/26/19. All paperwork was signed and everything went well after the financial department tried to upsell on everything from seat and fabric protection to coatings for the car. I agreed to bring in the down payment the next day and would pick up the car then. As promised I was back Friday with a $7,000 down payment and gave this to the finance representative working. On Tuesday the following week I received a text from the sale person that sold me the car, Brian, that I needed to come in with the $7,000 down payment and to let him know when I would be in. Within a few minutes I was left a voice message that I needed to come in with the check to settle up. End of the month, told me of our deal and said I needed to come in. I had to call the dealership. I asked for the General Manager, not in by the way, and left a voice message. I spoke to the finance person and he had no idea what was going on. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence in the way money is handled there. Is service kept track of just as well? The salesman called me back asking why I was upset and basically was chastising me for not understanding. Really? Because of poor communication in your dealership you called and texted me to bring in money that was already paid. If you can't understand why a customer would have a problem with this then there are customer relationship seminars on the web that might be of help. read more

We will never purchase another vehicle from the Gerald group! We purchased ours a Gerald Hyundai and told us how if any issues arise the warehouse is right across the expressway. My car was acting up for 3 weeks I had called every other day to get it in and kept being told that they had no appointments until end of September.... Well beginning of august my engine blew. I have been told for the last 2 weeks my car was going to be completed... nope now we are going on week 8 of no car, no courtesy car available, and given a different date each week I call to find out the progress of the car. I had to come for two visits in a week. First time I brought my suv in for a service recall. It took about an hour for them to tell me that yes, the abs module needed to be replaced but they didn't have it in stock. So I had to bring it back again a week later once the part arrived. It would be nice for you to keep parts in stock for a major recall like this, so that customers don't have to make two trips. On the return trip, they estimated it would take an hour, it actually took almost two hours. On the plus side, the service managers were courteous and professional. Oh yes, when I called to make the second appointment, I told the phone person I wanted to come in on Friday the 29th. She said OK and scheduled me Thursday the 28th instead, so I had to straighten that out. read more

I'll sales person Nick was amazing however his sales Manager mike did not let him speak, was very condescending to us, very unprofessional and in round about ways telling we were dumb for not understanding how these imaginary numbers came about for payments. They claimed they fix the issue I have a receipt and everything not even a week later my car starts doing the same thing I thought they fixed . I took it to two different shops & they both said they would have to fix the exact same thing I got a receipt from this place . They lied ! And I put my son into this car that wasn't even fixed so why give me a receipt. Not one to leave reviews but I'm astounded at how horrible this place is. I haven't had a single positive experience after the day I bought my car, brand new. I have a 2015 Hyundai Elantra and I bought the prepaid oil change package at the time of purchase so I come here for my oil changes. I've waited over 2 hours when I had an appointment, my most recent oil change I had an appointment, made it clear I couldn't wait a second longer than an hour and a half and they said that wouldn't be a problem at all, turns out they "got behind" and I ended up being late to where I needed to go. This is just the most recent event. Prior to this: -Ordered touch up paint, waited over a month and then they gave me the wrong color -Had a loose bolt in the seat due to improper installation of the seat track (which was still under warranty) and I had to come back 4 times until they finally replaced the track. Had the head service manager look at me and degrade me because he didn't believe me that there was something wrong with the seat. -long waits every single time -I ask them every single time NOT to wash my car because whatever crappy washing system they use, leaves water marks all over my car and leaves my car looking significantly worse than it did when I brought it in and they still end up washing it every single time. Overall, I just can't catch a break here and I'm so ready to sell my car and be done with Hyundai forever 100% due to how horrible this branch is. I love my car but they really tainted the Hyundai brand. read more

Additionally, the vehicle that I had purchased was used and had an issue with the locking system on the passenger door. But please know that I had a religiously bad experience at subject, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone but the guy who stole my highschool girlfriend. Sure, that was thirty years ago, but a man must stand on principle;) Allow me to explain: My mother has long coveted a hybrid vehicle, and after months of research and test drives, she chose the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with a few simple options. That is to say, she knew exactly what she wanted to buy. We visited Gerald Hyundai, explained to the dimwitted sales guy what we wanted to buy, and told him what we were willing to pay, inclusive of the vehicle and all associated fees, taxes, etc. i.e. an "out the door" price. Mr. Dimwit, between grunts and drooling characteristic of Cro-magnon Man, explained that such a price was not possible through his dealership. We said OK, thank you for your time, and we would take our business elsewhere. 45 minutes later, my Mom receives an email from Mr. Magnon telling her that he was able to pull some strings, and that we had a deal. We dropped everything, my Mom grabbed her check book, and we again made the trip out to North Aurora. As we were pulling into the driveway, 30 minutes after receiving the affirmative email, my Mom receives a call from the same guy, during which he explains that "Oh shucks, I just sold that car for more than list price. Too bad for you, but we have more of the same car, and we can sell you one for more than list price too. Since you're here, you might as well come in and buy one." Needless to say, we didn't. Totally devoid of any ethics, masters of the bait and switch, and unpleasant to deal with in every conceivable regard. I'm telling you, if the car makers would grant franchises to Carmax (see my review-Toyota has done so) all of these scumbag dealers would go the way of the Dodo bird. read more

I purchased a 2016 Elantra from Gerald Hyundai in September 2015. Before my first oil change I started to experience an intermittent vibration. I took it to various service departments but since it's so intermittent it couldn't be duplicated or diagnosed. I tried working with Hyundai Motor America who said they couldn't help me so I returned to Gerald Hyundai to see what they could do as far as trading it back in or something since I felt I was sold an unreliable vehicle from their location. The trade in value they were offering me was definitely low balled and was based off of a 2015 instead of a 2016 because KBB can't generate a value for a 2016. But that is no excuse for the dealership to use fraudulent information. If we are just going to pick years that aren't accurate then lets just value a 2010 while we are at it for only $5,000 and then they really can rob me. I did not appreciate the dishonestly during my visit and the devaluing of my 2016 which is only 4 months old and has only 4,500 miles on it! Then they were not reflecting any of the incentives that I qualified for into the cost of the new replacement 2016 Elantra I was looking at buying instead. They had me at nearly $100 extra out of pocket per month than what I currently pay. I know it is an unfortunate situation that the dealership cannot diagnose the problem with the car but I shouldn't be stuck with something that is unreliable and I shouldn't be penalized by paying an additional $100 per month for an identical car that I just purchased 4 months prior. I feel like the dealership isn't standing by their product and they definitely don't care about their costumers as much as their profit which is directly impacted anyway because they will lose continued business from myself and my family. It has definitely turned into a very disappointing and negative experience with Gerald Hyundai. read more

Alex Kapouranis, the sales manager who had a distinct accent was a douche who treated me with no respect whatsoever. Aren't you supposed to be nice to potential buyers?? I guess that doesn't apply to Gerald Hyundai. As most salesmen use psychological tactics to get you to pressure you and ultimately give in, I thought it couldn't be worse than that. Boy, was I wrong. When the salesman brought Alex over, I knew it was over, INSTANTLY. His body language combined with his arrogance and cockiness made me wonder "how can this guy have a job that involves dealing with people?" As there were other dealerships that had the Sants Fe with a lower price, I asked Alex to see if he could match the price or offer a lower price. As Gerald Hyundai didn't have the lowest price for the Santa Fe, Alex not only refused to offer a lower price/match other area dealers, he SAID THAT HE SHOULD CHARGE MORE BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN THE MSRP. He said "Why should I lower the price, when I can sell it for more?" He then stated to get the price advertised I had to be a recent college grad and currently enrolled in the military. Refusing to recognize the advertised price while treating me with no respect, providing misinformation, giving me attitude and refusing to work with me was what really got to me. I hope Alex Kapouranis doesn't epitomize/represent other managers that work for Gerald. I would not recommend Gerald Hyundai to anymore and I'm sure as hell that I wouldn't recommend Alex Kapouranis to anyone. Run away! AND RUN AWAY QUICKLY!!! read more

This was the absolute worst service I have ever experienced. I purchased my Tucson from them and not even 2 weeks later, had multiple issues. I made an appointment, dropped it off the day of appt. and they took 17 DAYS to give me my car back just to tell me there was nothing fckin wrong with it besides surface rust. this was after I reached out to Hyundai customer care that's the only reason it was "ready for pick up." they literally made me pay $150 just because my check engine light was on. I had this car for a less than a fckin month, and you're going to make me pay for a diagnostic fee? I called for an appointment 2 weeks after purchase. Service manager could've cared less too, same with the guy that sold me the car. One never even got back to me to this day. So unprofessional. My engine literally just overheated, and there was nothing wrong with it? Brake pads should have been replaced too, but they denied saying they were just fine. I had my new car for a MONTH and it already had so many issues, but they did nothing to fix the problems I came to them with. fckin lemon their technicians must be awful. service was terrible too, I did not get a single call from them during those 17 days they had my car. just told me it was ready for pick up. My wife and I just purchased a 2011 Santa Fe from Gerald and our experience was very good. I had been researching SUV's for a month and narrowed the field down to a couple of autos. I requested a quote over the Internet and got an unbelievable price which roused my suspicion, but I called the dealership anyway. John, the Internet sales manager, was very responsive to my request to deal only via email. He answered my questions directly, so I came into to test drive. He handed me off to a sales rep, Frank. While other salespeople had given us the smooze-over or made "rapport building small talk" , Frank efficiently walked us through the car features, answered all our questions and gave us a quick test drive. We were in and out in 30 minutes. I hate it when car sales people will not let you leave without trying to drag you back into their office to close a deal. They were not like that. Once we had made a decision to pursue buying the Santa Fe, we returned. Frank was busy, so John, who get's no extra commission once we are in the door, helped us anyway. The price was already way below Edmunds TMV and less than any other quote on the Santa Fe, so there was not much negotiating to be done, which was fine with me. We found a way to shave a bit more cost off anyway. The car we wanted was not on the lot, so we signed a hand written offer and left a $500 deposit so they could go find the car and do a dealer swap. John patiently answered a bunch of questions we had, since we were not familiar with this process. Once we got through out questions, they did as they said and had the exact car we ordered on their lot the next day. We picked up the car two days later, the evolution went smoothly even though it took longer than I would have liked, but they always do it seems. The Finance Manager, Ed was very efficient once we got back to him to pay for the auto. We knew from experience that they would try to sell us the extended warranty and paint/leather protection package - which they did. No surprise. The pitch was low key and explained the features and benefits of the two plans very matter-of-factly. Since my wife and I were buying and planning on driving the car until the wheels fell off, it made sense for us to load up with the extra mileage and protection. Ed was very straight forward and low pressure and gave us a decent prices with some but not crazy markup (I'm in the insurance business and did research afterwards on what these warranties cost if bought 3rd party.) All told, the experience was very pleasant as car buying goes. We got a price way below TMV/Invoice in a low pressure environment. We would buy from there again. read more

Unfortunately, I've experienced very poor customer service at Gerald Hyundai due to a general lack of communication between staff members and departments. After purchasing my vehicle at essentially sticker price, we negotiated that I would receive a free cargo net in my trunk - something that costs little to nothing for Gerald themselves. After agreeing to include it at no cost, they said it would be a simple installation process and would take minutes. That was not the case at all. After THREE rescheduled installation appointments, I am frustrated and disappointed with the level of service at Gerald Hyundai. Despite living in downtown Chicago, I have came in on 3 different occasions to be told that they are "unable to install it because the only person who knows how to do it wasn't there" - making it seem like a huge process for a "simple installation". While rescheduling my appointment for the third time, the representative mentioned that I could come at 7:20am - right when they open - to ensure that I have the installation done as soon as possible - probably by 8:30am. When I got to my early morning appointment, a different rep (not who I scheduled the appt with) mentioned that "his team wouldn't start working on it until 8am because they don't start until then". At this point, it's almost laughable. After three rescheduled appointments, why was I advised to come in 40 minutes before you open? After sitting at the dealership for an hour and a half, I was told they weren't able to complete it within the appointment time and that would have to give me a loaner until it was done. I didn't get my car back until about 1pm. Please figure out a better process of communication between both your customers and your staff - it is a silly reason to lose customers and completely avoidable. read more
