We purchased the ResistAll rust, paint rust and interior protection from Gerald Hyundai in North Aurora, IL. When we brought our Santa Cruz in for the application of the products. We had just been camping. There was some mud splatters on the exterior and some mud on the seats. We assumed this wouldn't be a problem. Certainly they would wash and vacuum the car prior to applying the product. Two hours after dropping off the vehicle we got the call that it was ready. That seemed strange. In the past, when we had the product applied it took much longer. the paint coating needs time to cure. When we arrived , the car appeared as dirty as it was when we dropped it off. We went to the manager and questioned how they could effectively apply the products without washing the truck or vacuuming the seats. He insisted they did the work. After several minutes of "did not, did to" bickering, he conceded to "reapply" the paint and fabric coatings. Two hours later we we called and told the truck was ready. This time the truck was at least clean. All we could do is assume they did apply the products this time. Recently, after a car wash, we noticed drip marks on the exterior, as if the paint protector was sloppily applied. We're reluctant to reach out to Gerald and have for getting this fixed. At this point there is no trust. We've asked the product manufacturer to intervene and refer us to another shop. I've bought 5 cars from Gerald over the years. I won't be back and have warned friends they should go elsewhere. read more

This dealership is horrible. I have a 2019 Hyundai Sonata bought brand new end of sept 2019. I have been servicing my car every 3-6 months. Well come to find out I have been excessively burning oil and now need a new engine. I brought my car into the dealership back in September of 2021 and the oil consumption process was started. Since sept 2021 I have had to go back every month to the dealership, leave my car for days for service always made an apt yet even with appointments they "didn't get to my car" that's how it started off and no one even bothered to call me to tell me so I had made a trip out to pick up me car for zero reason and was asked to leave it another day. Talk about inconvenient with the amount of days my car has had to sit there for service they require me to do to see if my engine will be covered under warranty. Entire time I've been told will be covered and to find out they tell me they denied it because they tried to submit it without my receipts. I submitted my receipts was told was being sent to resubmit for engine .. oh boy..only did I literally have to Harass and call over 5x a time different departments for anyone to even talk to me but the type of customer service I got in return was horrible. Lied to. Blamed. Even with my record receipts was told it's my fault. There's no way. It's been having issues since I purchased it!! It consumes over 1.3 quarts of oil in 1,000 miles and that's my fault?! I got Hyundai corporate Involved got a case manager. They can't even get a response from Gerald!! They told me Dealership never submitted my receipts when Gerald hyundai they told me they did and my car sat for another whole week there for literally no reason! Mind you I spent 8 hours after work on a friday obtaining all my receipts for this submission. They offer no loaner or rental cars. I asked for a quote of trade it never heard back I finally went there in person and it was even worse not one single person could answer any of my questions it was a lot of that's not my job or department let alone I've even heard- "that's above my paygrade". If you did your job maybe you would deserve better pay! I've never experienced such horrible customer service in my life and I'll be honest I didn't expect the best service not from any dealership but this was such a waste of time and energy. Hyundai corporate can't move along w the engine submission because Gerald Hyundai won't even respond to them!!! It's been another two weeks!! I am so bothered by this care and lack of effort that I am so ready to go to any means Including lawyers. I can't get my engine even submitted for a warranty then what's the freaking point of their "great warranty!?" Let alone I asked for a trade in quote was quoted 6,000$ because need an engine for a 2.5 year old car! Then they tell me an engine is going to cost me about 10,000$ plus I need brakes so add another 2,000$ that's literally the value of my car that was sold to me brand freaking new. I would defer anyone and everyone from this place. You will literally be Ignored for their defective cars it's now only your problem they don't care one bit. The Only good thing I have to say is that joe from service was the most helpful person out of the entire dealership. He was unfortunately on a vacation during the last part of my engine service for submission and I literally refuse to talk to anyone else because no one knows what the freaking hell is going on there! I Went to this dealer on Sunday to do a walk around on a new palisade they had for sale on their Internet page. I took a picture of the stock number on the vehicle along with the snapshot from the webpage so I would have that information for Monday to deal on this vehicle.When the salesman brought the numbers the price of the vehicle was $1000 higher than it was on Sunday.I asked the salesman why and showed him the snapshot of the webpage with the same stock number. The salesman could not answer why so he went and got the manager who came and gave me a story about a computer glitch on their vehicles. FABULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE! If I could give them 10 Stars I would! :) We had recently purchased our car at another local dealership that was bought out. We had a warranty problem and that dealership REFUSED to deal with it---which meant---they wouldn't fix it! Instead, we ended up desperately looking for help. The big question was: Was this car even SAFE to drive???? We brought the car in to Gerald Hyundai and they took the necessary steps to fix the problem (covered by warranty) over the winter holiday and gave us a loaner car at NO COST that we used for DAYS while waiting for our vehicle to be fixed. I won't go into the sordid details of our car problems, it's just too exhausting of an ordeal. However, we were treated with RESPECT in the service department and our car problems were taken seriously by EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE we came in contact with. This is the worst dealer I have ever dealt with. Their service department is horrible. Let's start with the time I was lied to multiple times by the service department. After hours of run around and no answers on why my engine light was on I was informed it was my CO2 sensor and was covered under my extended warranty. 15 minutes after that call I received another call stating the warranty company called back and they made a mistake it was no covered. I was livid. I called the warranty company to follow up on a claim for another issue and asked about the CO2 detector issue. My findings were that the service manager didn't call the warranty company before calling me. I got times of the calls made and called Gerald Hyundai back to speak to a manager. Now this was another ordeal, as he was supposed to call me back in 30 minutes but did not. I went over to the dealer instead. I was told prior to this my car would be ready by 4:30 pm. When I arrived at the dealer I was brought into the managers office who then told me they didn't even gave the part and couldn't get it until the next morning. I was extremely unhappy and the lies were unacceptable. Now I take my car in again for a few safety recalls and an extended warranty recall on a coupling in the steering column that was broken. I get a call from the service department explaining that the fixed the coupling and did the recalls. They then told me I had a bill of $250. I explained that first I never authorized any work for and dollar amount, and second the coupling they were trying to charge me for was under the Hyundai extended warranty recall. He stated he would call me back. When he did call he back he informed that the coupling would be covered. So I pick up my car after service hours and drive out of the lot to discover my alignment is completely out of whack, and my steering wheel us at a 45 degree angle to drive straight. I had no previous issue with my alignment prior to bringing it in. I called service the next morning which was a Saturday to explain my issue, he asked me to bring it in but I had a funeral to attend that morning so I could not, but I made an appointment for that week. When I brought it in I was told that it was not their fault, and I needed an alignment. I asked how it was not their fault, my alignment was fine when I brought it in and now it is not. And when the coupling was replaced the tech had to take apart the steering column to fix it. I knew this because the broken coupling was causing a clicking noise and I had my mechanic check it out. My good mechanic told me what had to be done and gave me the details from Hyundai's site. I didn't have it repaired at that time because it would have been expensive and there was no safety issue because of it. I only had it fixed because Hyundai was covering the repair. The service associate told me again it wasn't their fault. I told him to give me my car back now, and I will never step foot in this dealer again. I went to my regular shop and had them do the alignment as I had signed up for lifetime alignment with them when I had tires replaced and an alignment done. My tech at my regular shop told me that it was their fault, and that they should have fixed it. I knew that but Gerald Hyundai just wanted me to pay for an alignment, but that was not happening. Now I gave another recall to get done but will go to another Hyundai dealer well out of my way just so I don't have to step foot in this poorly run establishment. I was a loyal Gerald customer until these incidents, as I bought my last 2 cars from Gerald dealers but my next car will be from somewhere else! read more

If I could give no stars I would. I went in to Gerald Hyundai wanting to purchase a 2015 Sonata. I had a great Truecar price on the car, which is why I drove 45 minutes away to get it. After test driving the vehicle, we went in to talk on pricing. When I finally pulled out the Truecar price, Tony, my sales person basically said that the price was ridiculous and he couldn't do it because the car had features on it the Truecar didn't and he wouldn't budge. He left me alone with my father-in-law to talk about the car. We then noticed that the microphone button on Tony's phone at the desk. The reason we knew this is because I told my father in law that I would be willing to raise my monthly payment to a certain amount, and when Tony came back, magically it was at that amount. He then tried to sell me leasing to own. He brought over Mike Chino to go over the numbers and I listened. After he finished, I said no thanks on the lease. I said it was clear he didn't want to honor the truecar price and he started to interrupt me and get angry. I said, "I'm done," and got up and walked out. I recently came in to get work done on my interior and exterior. Jaybee ended up taking care of me and when I tell you he took care of my car he took CARE of it. I was so impressed how exceptional my car looked. All the scratches and deep cuts I had in my interior were completely gone. On top of that Jaybee kept me informed everyday letting me know the status of my car and what needed to be done. At one point he explained that a portion of the discolored seat he would not be able to get it out. However, when I picked up my car I learned that he had his team look at it again, give it another try and boom! He got it completely out and looking normal again. My car looks brand new and it's all thanks to him caring about what my car looked like as if it was his own. Amazing team and an amazing guy. I'll start by suggesting you should go somewhere else. Our experience started out okay, we asked if there were any added fees, like a premium, and they said no. Well, turns out there is. They call it the "Gerald Protection Plan", you have to pay an extra $1,300 and it is not optional. It comes with specific add-ons, but definitely not worth $1,300. We decided to still get the car just due to overall pricing compared to other cars we were interested in. Unfortunately, they had sold the car we test drove, but they had one exactly like it coming in Friday of that week, it was Tuesday, so we signed the papers and figured it was just a 2 day wait.... or so we thought. Friday rolled around and they said the shipping was delayed, the car should be in tomorrow. Next day, once again, shipping delayed, should be in Monday, since they're closed Sundays. Monday comes around, once again the car is not delivered. They finally contact the transportation company, which they should have done Friday, and they say the car will be in the latest on Wednesday, which it finally was. They did offer us a loaner car, but with them saying it would be in the next day everytime it was late we didn't see the point in wasting a drive up there to get a loaner for just a day. Had we known Friday it wouldn't be in until Wednesday we would have gotten the loaner car, but they didn't contact the company until my car was already 4 days late. Also, being as this was my first brand new car, the constant uncertainty and lack of initiative really took all the excitement out of it once it was actually delivered. I will say our dealer, Gino, was friendly enough and answered our questions, but we weren't huge fans of, I believe, the sales manager, Alex. All in all, although I do love my car, I definitely wish we would have gone elsewhere and will be in the future. read more

The lifetime warranty comes with, in my opinion, unreasonable requirements for service. We purchased a 2018 Tucson in November 2018. Since our first oil change at 2407 miles we have only put 700 miles on the car in three months. I recently took my car in because my trunk would not open. The problem was that the valet button in the glove box was accidentally pushed in. I was charged $162.50 for diagnostics. An honest service person would have known that was a possibility and should have said, let me just check this out, and I would have been on my way without a charge. It would have taken 10 seconds. I had to leave my car overnight. They didn't even wash my car, which added insult to injury in this great rip off. Gerald used to be an amazing place for service. TERRIBLE experience. Super stressful! My salesman was very deceitful and lied to me about a lot of the cars features....telling me I had to pay $1200 for accessories that weren't even on the car. I argued over the price so much that he brought in his boss to close the deal. The boss tried to get me to pay the "certified pre-owned" price for a car that was NOT certified. The boss also stated they did a 360 degree car inspection. They did NOT. They didn't refill any of the cars fluids. I drove it off the lot with almost no washer fluid, brake fluid (VERY DANGEROUS) as well as a few others. When I brought this up to the boss he just feigned ignorance. I was lied to and manipulated at almost EVERY turn at this dealership. I caught them in many lies but all they did was, again, "feign ignorance" and try to distract me with something else. I almost walked out of the dealership to find the same car with better people. I stood up to leave and that's when the boss FINALLY started being more reasonable. They kept me there until after midnight! I understand that dealerships need to make money...but there is a fine line between milking an accessory for an extra paycheck vs lying to and manipulating your customers! No respect for those individuals. VERY stressful experience! They were lucky that I really wanted the car or else I would have absolutely walked out, no question. Don't even bother bringing in your Edmunds or TrueCar price "certificate" to this dealership. They will not honor it. They would make you think you clicked the wrong button and checked the wrong box when you were in Edmonds site that the quote includes incentive you're not qualified. That's what happened to me. They wanted to make me think I'm stupid. I get online quotes all the time and I'm 200% sure I did everything right. I even did it again couple days later and make sure I checked every right boxes. It gave me the same deal. The website said I could get a 2013 sonata for at least $4200 off MSRP regardless of trim level. No when i was in their dealership, the internet sales person said the price is impossibly cheap and just doesn't make sense. I know it's impossibly cheap. That's why I drove 25 miles and walked in into your dealership with something in writing - A CERTIFICATE. To them it's nothing more than a useless piece of paper. Gerald offered me a so-so deal. I asked them to lower it another $170 to make the number even. They refused. $170? Really? The car is for my mom and she's been without a car for almost 2 months. Her insurance stopped covering for her rental after a month so she was paying for her rental out of her own pocket already. She's also tired of all the car shopping for the past 2 days. She took the deal. Couple days later, their manager wrote me an email and thank me for the business. I wrote back and expressed my displeasure but since they already got our money, he didn't even write back. If you can't honor an online quote, don't publish it to lure customers in. These guys are a real piece of work. Ever see "Fargo"? It's the TRUE-COAT scene. I'll save you the painful narrative, just note that if you want to buy a car from Gerald Hyundai, you're in for a long, painful standoff in which they'll pressure you to buy extras up to and including the $1,500+ invisible protective stuff for the paint job. We held off for some time, then they sent in the Closer, some guy who identified himself as the Finance Manager, who, when pressed, acknowledged that they wanted about $1,500 -- we could decide how they got it (financing, price or TRUE COAT). This was after we'd agreed to terms. That's not all -- We were told by three different employees there that they'd really appreciate "All 'FIVES" on the survey from Hyundai corporate. They said if we'd give them "ALL FIVES," we were more likely to get attention from the Service Department should something go wrong. The suggestion was that you'd better stick to the talking points if you want them to treat you decently after the sale. I didn't buy a car there. read more

We came back in working with a different sales team and ended up purchasing a vehicle, as they were able to get us the exact vehicle we wanted at a good price. I definitely appreciate the GM reaching out to fix the situation. While I cannot give them 5 stars for the original situation that occurred, I certainly have to acknowledge how they tried to make things right. Original: This place was an absolute nightmare to deal with. Our two hours looking at the elantra was a nightmare. As our salesman flew through the financing numbers, he explained it completely different than the sales manager later on. It was chicken scratch on a paper that he explained upside down and made many mistakes explaining it, as my husband (who has his masters in finanancial management) just looked at the numbers knowing it was off. I pity anyone going in there that does not have an idea of how loans and financing work, because I can see this dealer completely taking advantage of you. We went in looking to purchase within 24 hours and it just simply wasn't enough. They didn't have the car we wanted, but kept pushing and pushing to get us to settle on other choices and take one home that night, as we told them time after time that we were not ready to make the decision. After holding on to our trade-in keys while they badgered us and bad-mouthed other dealers we were considering, they literally RAN after us in the parking lot knocking on our window as we left wanting to ask "another question." They literally ran us out of the parking lot! If you want to be fed a bunch of lies and be pressured into buying a car when you aren't ready, then this is the place for you. We went in there fully intending to buy a car this weekend at their dealership since it is closest to our home and it wasn't good enough. It HAD to be that night. I bought a used Genesis at Gerald. The experience in the sales and finance department was as good as can be expected. My concerns started and ended in the Service department. See, in order for a car to be sold as certified it requires a minimum tread depth on tires. To meet this requirement, Gerald put on Fuzion Sport UHD tires on my car, the cheapest and lowest rated tires in their class in multiple surveys. In the first rain after I bought the Genesis it lost traction. That's when I learned about the woeful tires Fuzion sells. When I pointed this out to on a Gerald customer survey the General Manager promptly contacted me and I thought the service was amazing. The net end result, however, after a week, was that they offered to sell me better tires at nearly the same price as I could get at any tire retailer. This was the result of them selling the tires at their retail price which is 75% higher than a tire dealer and after them taking a credit from the Fuzion dealer for their original purchase amount. In other words, they were seeking a profit on the transaction to make me whole. My advice? Do not assume buying a premium car at Gerald's nets you a premium service experience. Ensure the tires you are getting on your used certified car are reputable. And ensure your spare tire is in acceptable condition. I didn't do these things and it cost me about $700 more than I paid for the car because I didn't check these things out. read more

My son took his 2014 Elantra in because the oil light was flickering. We normally take our cars to Napleton but since this seems serious I told him to take it to Gerald since it was closer. (A decision I now regret.) They sure saw him coming. He didn't have an appointment so Jaybee said they'd work him in. They gave him a ride home, which was nice, and said that they'd contact him after they had a chance to check it out. He also said that there is a charge for the multi-point inspection and computer diagnostic service. When Jaybee called him he stated that they could not find anything wrong and just did an oil change to see if that might correct the problem. However, during the inspection he noted that the breaks were "very thin" and needed to be replaced. My son said no because he needed his car for work and could not leave it. Jaybee asked if he would have it done if he could find a loaner for him. My son reluctantly said okay. He called to tell me this and I told him to call back and tell Jaybee not to do the brakes. By the time my son was able to get a hold of Jaybee to tell him not to do the brakes he stated that they were already done! No call prior to this stating he was able to locate a loaner and should he proceed with the brake job. He just did it before anyone could give it a thought. My son called me back and I was furious. He went in for a flashing oil light and now the brakes are the priority. I asked my son why then, since they were so busy, they were able to do the brakes so quickly and still need the car over night. He said that they wanted to keep trying to get the oil light to come on since it didn't do it for them. I took my son to get the loaner. Jaybee asked him to be there by 6 p.m. since they close then. I got him there at 5:15. He was on the phone and we had to wait. In the mean time a woman and her daughter came in and wanted to speak to Jaybee as well. Jaybee told her that he was in the middle of something and that I was next so she would have to wait until then. She began ranting and raving over a brake problem. Hmmm...brakes again. Seems the repair didn't resolve the problem. This went on for about 20 minutes while we stood there waiting. Finally the manager, who had been standing 15 feet away the whole time and clearly heard the exchange, decided to join in. In the end they agreed not to charge her for the brakes, only the oil change if she promised not to give them a bad rating and she agreed. Isn't that illegal? We finally got our turn and I asked to see the inspection report. Jaybee said he hadn't printed it out yet. (When we go to Napleton they email or provide us with a copy of the results of the multi-point inspection.) Again I asked why they needed to keep it overnight if they couldn't find anything wrong. They'd gotten a brake job out of him what more did they want. He said they wanted to test drive it in the morning to see if the light would come on for them. This whole time my son's car is up on the lift with no wheels on it so obviously we couldn't take it home. My son filled out the paperwork for the loaner. First thing in the morning my husband tried calling Jaybee. It took several tries but he finally got through to him. My husband told him that the inspection was covered under my son's warranty so there shouldn't be a charge. Jaybee told him that besides the oil change and brake job they also performed Fuel Induction service and flushed the brake system because my son agreed to it. Really? So the original problem was fixed by correcting the Oil Control Valve (no charge, under warranty) and an oil change ($34.14). I guess that wasn't worth the trouble so extra work was necessary such as Brake service/clean ($52.50), Fuel Induction service ($139.79), replaced front brakes ($251.00) and brake system flush ($152.00). After taxes were added a grant total of $654.04. All for a flickering oil light. He did, however, get a free exterior car wash! And the inspection report? It seems that Jaybee lied. There was no report because there was no money to be made from it since it was covered under my son's warranty. What he got was a "Complimentary Multi Point VISUAL Inspection." To add insult to injury, when my son went to pick up his car the "manager" said that Jaybee was on an important phone call so he would process the payment. Worked with Marc Smith to try to get a deal on a used 2015 Sonata Limited. Car was beautiful and Marc was AMAZING! Low pressure and very relaxing experience overall but manager, Tony, refused to budge even a penny on the price of the used car, pushing a new one instead at a slightly higher cost. He also tried to talk me into a 6-year loan, which is financially so dumb, I can't believe that people really do it. That said, when I made clear that I was not interested in upping my bottom line or extending the term of the loan, he accepted that and did not pressure me at all.
