My wallet was already bleeding from the VW dealership but worse, the VW dealership in Maryland didn't completely repair my issue. Even worse and second issue with my car arose. I had an an EPC issue. My car was slow to start, it would shake and if drove to fast upon initial start up. Worse, my car had a oil leak and my dashboard indicated low oil pressure-engine shut off. I have a 2008 VW Passat with 104,000 miles, no longer under warranty. Unable to self-diagnose on VW forums plus I thought, the VW dealership has let me down so why not try a local auto repair. Tony was kind enough to reply to my yelp request for a quote.... in less than an hour. I towed my Passat to German Autogroup. Tony was in constant communication. The quality of BMW dealerships is good but the prices are an arm and a leg. Count me in to the "5 Stars" club on this one.... brought in my 09 M3 convertible [his name is "Baby" if that tells you anything] to these folks to diagnose a mysterious leak in the front end. Turns out my transmission was having issues. Stephen and team very capably diagnosed the issue, called with an estimate, and got the work done in 2 days. The service bay itself is huge and SPOTLESS. The guest waiting areas [there are 2] are also large and clean. Stephen [the manager I think?] took my car in, communicated with me on status, and met me when I picked it up. He seems very knowledgeable, respectful, and just gives great customer service. Although I've had only one interaction with them, I was thoroughly impressed. My friend recommended German Auto Group because they did a great job repairing her BMW at a price much lower than dealer's. The dealer repair cost was so high she was literally about to sell her non working car, now her car runs better then it had in several years. Takaways -Andrew is a SHADY businesman -the car wash was exceptional I was referred here by a friend with the expectation of getting quality work at a price more fair than the dealership. I was very WRONG. My manual BMW had been bumping me out of the first gear for a couple of weeks. So I called this location and informed Andrew that I suspected it was a clutch issue. He asked questions to confirm whether it was a clutch issue or not. I ended up getting a couple estimates for clutch issues ranging from $1300 to $2600. The next day he called and informed me that it was not in fact a clutch issue but a transmission issue, which I commend because he could have been dishonest and fixed what we agreed upon that wasn't the cause. But although he showed decent character and honesty on one hand he would later prove otherwise. He asked if I would like him to tear down the transmission and disgnise the exact issue, since it would be possible to rebuild it. Hours later he told me the news, the transmission needed to be replaced, a new one would cost 8k from the dealer but he can get me a used one for 2.5k plus labor would make 4k. Wow, not expecting to spend 4k on a car that I drove into the shop, I tried to negotiate a better price. But then I thought about how the car is still driveable and asked how much would it cost to wrap it up so I can fix it at a later date. He told me it would cost 1300. I was appalled. Thats 1300 just to have my car in the same condition I dropped it off in?! I couldn't make it make sense. This guy had asked me for the green light to tear down the transmission leaving out that that alone would be 1300, which is illegal in the state of VA. Yes, everything has a cost, but wow. I advised him of that being a problem and we began debating negotiating. He said he would cut it in half. When I went to pick up my car and the receipt came out it was more than $60 over what half would've been and not itemized at all. I was then offered an opportunity to speak with him. I asked why the receipt wasn't itemized and he showed me on his computer 12 hours of labor. There is nothing that would make me believe having my car back without even being fixed would cost 1300 or even 700(BMW diagnostic fee is $250). He got nasty as I accused him shady business practices. He ended up accepting 500. I will never be back. I'm sure they do and have done decent work but this is unacceptable and the better business bureau will also be on notice. read more

Everyone here is very friendly, they are dealer certified technicians that also work within your warranty, and they are HONEST - meaning they told me I didn't need to do any of the stuff the dealership and other auto shop I went to told me. I serviced by previous Audi A4 and current Audi Q5 with GAG of Springfield without a problem. Tried GAG of Alexandria and had numerous problems. It was for a 55,000 maintenance. The bad: 1) They left the skid cover below the oil pan unattached. The next day my Q5 was making a loud noise driving down the highway. Had to drive on the shoulder back to GAG, and take the morning off work. What a rookie mistake. Incompetence. 2) They claimed to fill up the fluids, but less than 30 days later my washer fluid light came on. They didn't fill it. Many auto places that do these checklist maintenance appointments just skip it all (it has happened to me at a dealer, Audi of Alexandria). Cheating. 3) They said it was all done, come by to get the vehicle. I showed up an hour later, and they said they were washing it. Waited. 25 minutes later I got the car. Insolence. 4) They did not reset the service indicator. I think they tried to explain that they can't do that, or whatever. Inexperienced. They do have a positive attitude, in some respects. But they just have too many negatives. read more

Everything positive written about this business is accurate. I found Steve to be patient, knowledgeable and customer service friendly and Uncle Joe consistently checked in to see if I needed anything. I used their work space area which had granite desks, comfortable chairs and great lighting. The main reception area had nice comfortable chairs with a large flat screen. The snack room was stocked for all to enjoy with a great variety but I stayed clear since I have a problem in over indulging. After my diagnostic Steve thoroughly went over all of my issues with a timeline recommendation as to when service would be needed. I appreciated the timeline since I just relocated here and maintaining two households. There was no pressure from Steve as if I did not get all of the items completed today my car would fall a part. I also noticed how Steve inreracted with the other customers and everyone seemed so happy. You definitely dont see that at the dealership. This will be my new service shop. Great, honest shop! Brought in a car for pre-purchase inspection. Before they got too deeply into it they noticed a few things that concerned them and checked with me just to set expectations. We agreed that it would not be worthwhile for me to have them continue on with the full inspection. Steve took me out to the car to show me the things that they found while they had it on the lift. My BMW 535 broke down, had it towed to the nearby dealer, who promptly diagnosed the problem as well as a list of unrelated things and asked for $4100 to repair it. Shopped around and found German Auto Group. They fixed the problem for 15 percent less than the dealer and said the rest did not need to be done and suggested simply monitoring these things when I bring the car in for normal maintenance. The car was returned in great working order, looked great as they cleaned it, and Andrew showed me a few cool features I did not know the car had. The cover of a compartment where the cigarette lighter is located got stuck, it wouldn't open. After searching online and reading numerous reviews of many repair shops in town, I decided to call this shop. I spoke to Christian. He said I could bring it in for him to see if he could fix it. A few hours later, I drove my car to the shop. I met Adam and Geoffrey. Both were very helpful and courteous. Geoffrey was able to open the cover of a compartment, he said it got jammed. Both Adam and Geoffrey advised me to leave it half way open or not close it at all to avoid future problems. He didn't charge me anything. Later, I spoke to Todd, the shop manager inquiring about Schedule A service and new set of tires. Todd inspected all tires and asked me a few questions about my car. He told me I don't need a new set of tires, explained about Schedule A service and what needs to be done when the car has 40,000 miles. He was honest, thorough, and his quote was substantially lower than the dealership. With this great service and reasonable charges, I definitely bring my car to this shop for any maintenance/repair work in the future.
