This should have been done on a lift, would have taken less time and I would have received a smaller bill. I couldn't get my hood opened and he was honest in telling me that it was common issue on a BMW and he didn't know how many labor hours it would take to get my hood opened. Gino suggested that I make an appointment which I did. I dropped off my car and found the establishment to be inviting, clean and it had a lot of personal touches (coffee, snacks, candy, cookies etc) I received a call from Gino stating that he was able to get the hood opened and it only required a little grease. As a woman I am always concerned about being taken advantage of when it comes to car maintence and I am happy to say that German Auto Speciaist is honest, fair and does the right thing! read more

A check engine light came on in the 2005 BMW 325i I just purchased for my son a week earlier. I took it to another German auto place who told me ome of my cylinders was shot (very low compression) and it would be cheaper to replace the engine. They said that would be between 5,000 and 7,500 depending upon whether I went with a used engine or a rebuilt engine. I started calling around to price engines and how much others would charge. I talked to Emilio at German Auto Specialists on the phone and their price was better for the used engine. He didn't even recommend the rebuilt for various reasons. So I go down a few days later to meet him and get a feel for him. I'll cut to the punchline because this is unreal. They take the car in to check it out (no charge). All that's wrong with it is a cracked spark plug. They replace that for free, test drive it run a compression check on all cylinders, and its fine. I had them do an oil change. They knocked that out in a half hour, we come and pick my car up and go home. All I got charged for was the oil change. I cannot say enough about the honesty of Emilio and this place. Oh yeah, and they drove us home while they were working on the car. Un-freaking-real. read more

I've been taking my cars to German Auto Specialist for YEARS and they have never done me wrong...I recently purchased a used car and have had it for about 10 months until I noticed a coolant leak. I called German Auto and they couldn't fit me in right away, so being super impatient I decided to check out a new place (mistake number 1). I called German Auto Doctor and spoke to David (the owner) and he was nice and told me to bring it in right away and he could go on a test drive with me..we drove around for a bit and he was certain he could figure it out and work on it right away. I felt good with what he told me and decided to just give him a shot (mistake number 2). I dropped my car off to him the following day and was told he'll call me in a few hours to go over everything. When he finally got back to me he told me I had a very serious coolant leak...not to drive the car..he can fix it and will get to it the following day, however, this was going to take 8 hours to fix, this is a big job and is going to cost $1400!!! I was so upset, and didn't understand but trusted him based on his yelp reviews (mistake number 3). After hearing this news, I was extremely bothered but figured there was nothing I can do! Well, this morning I woke up and was on my way to work when I realized my glasses were left in my car...I didn't want to head over to the "doctor" so I decided to get to work and deal. After work (1:00pm) I had this tug to go there and get my glasses knowing this would give me an opportunity to check on my car (note: 8 hour job). When i arrived my car was sitting!!!! How? This was going to take 8 hours hence $1400 to fix!!! I immediately felt I needed to get my car out of the "doctors" shop and have my dad take a peak (retired mechanic) and then take it to the most trust worthy German mechanics I know...so off to German Auto Specialist I went! They had my car looked at within 15 minutes and diagnosed the same issue...the difference you ask...$1000 LESS! Yes! I was being scammed by the German auto "doctor". He was going to take complete advantage of me! When I told him I was taking my car to have my dad take a look first, he was a smart ass and rude and told me "just have him fix it then, he'll see how hard this job is" that's when I knew I was being takin advantage of and about to be scammed in to paying more money! His reviews have to be fake! There is no way this guy hasn't pulled this shit before!!! Lesson learned, GERMAN AUTO SPECIALIST is hands down the BEST in simi valley..actually BEST in Ventura county!! Trust me when I tell you that you don't need to look elsewhere! If you've got a German car and need an amazing and honest shop, these are your guys! DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE!!! New ownership and new mechanics, and not for the better. Had a relatively minor, 3 hr labor, under the hood repair required. Took it in early on a Monday morning, checked in with the female clerk, and received a ride home, being told that the car should be ready by noon or 1 pm. Just before 11 am I received and approved the estimate via text. At 2:40 pm I requested an update. I was told the wrong part was delivered and were trying to have it done before the end of the day. Never heard back. Not a courtesy call; nothing. I called the next morning about 8:30, and after asking for the status of my car and why it was taking so long, it was apparent I was dealing with an irritated man. This man was so irritated that after complaining about all the problems getting the part he actually said "We are @#*@*%@ swamped." I was told the car would be ready mid afternoon and fortunately about 2 pm it was ready to go. *****NOW THE WORST PART***** Oddly enough the next day I heard a series of rather loud thumps from the right rear of the car. I checked the trunk and undercarriage but there was nothing obvious to the untrained eye. Over the next few days the noise became louder and louder, and more worrisome. I had it checked and discovered the nut securing the right rear sway arm was gone, causing the loose sway arm to cause not insignificant damage to the wheel. Moreover, had this not been identified and corrected the damage could have been CATASTROPHIC to the vehicle and any occupants. I've since learned that a missing or loose nut at this location is unheard of. And one would have to believe the missing nut was the result of tampering by persons unknown. Furthermore, the left side wheel lugs were not as tight as they should have been and the sway arm nut required a fair bit of tightening. I'm well aware of auto repair scams and how they work, having been involved investigating such claims - I go back in, complain about suspicious noise and voila they discover loose or damaged sway arms. They simply tighten them but claim they installed new parts/labor, etc. The only reason for 1 star is the pleasant female clerk and the driver of the courtesy ride to and from. read more

Gino is very knowledgeable and honest. He does regular maintenance on my 2015 BMW 328d. I recently purchased a 1988 560SL (R107) and Gino knocked it out of the park - he replaced the timing chains, valve cover gaskets, chain tensioner, chain sprocket, guide rails, and transmission fluid/and filter. Whether you have an older or modern European car, Gino should be your go-to! He's an honest mechanic, local business owner, and great guy. Why spend a fortune at the dealer (stealer-ship), when you can get better work done here and support a small business? :) Side note: his shop is spotless. I ended up getting wrapped up into a pinch with my VW cc..a cute/ neat little ride Forsure, but it came with some issues I wasn't capable of addressing myself nor did I want to even try to wrap my head around German engineering at that point *face palm*....so I took it to our local German auto specialist in Simi Valley hoping to have someone well versed with this specific manufacture (just one of many that Gino is a specialist in) and not only did they identify the issue quickly, Gino and his staff got it handled even quicker...not to mention they are SUPER fairly priced and do not do what most mechanics do and try to reach deeper into your pockets. I brought my 2 Mini coopers here recently for just for oil changes/tire rotation and have been very satisfied with my experience. Upon servicing, they noticed some excess overheating and clicking sound on one of my Minis. I've noticed this before but never quite paid attention to it.
