I really liked the original owner. We talked old school VW's the first couple times I used this shop. Unfortunately, he told me he had cancer. I really enjoyed our chats. The new phone person, who I assume is the new owner, was frustrating. He was condescending, and didn't seem to understand why I would make him talk to one of my coworkers who knows VW's instead of me. I took auto shop. I used to work on my classic Bugs. After years of be disappointed by dishonest, shoddy work shops I have found a place that does what it promises and does it well. Brought our 2013 VW Jetta in for a preventative maintenance task that was way above my comfort level (timing belt replacement) also had an oil change and fuel filter done.. aside from a couple of extra days in the shop due to circumstances beyond their control Jaime the Mechanic that did the work did an excellent job, and I know that these tasks shouldn't have affected the way the car runs, but I swear its running better, So after 66 years of being on this earth I found a shop thats clean, has good people and foremost, I'd recommend to others which I've never done before. Drew is a nice guy but his mechanics are terrible, sloppy & unprofessional. Here is a list of repairs they had to re-do because their first attempt failed. Fuel pump Shift linkage Fuel system leaks Brakes They also damaged other parts of the car that were not being worked on, had to replace two of my wheels because the left gouges/scratches in them. Left grease stains on interior carpet & seats. kept the car for 4 months and gave it back to me with damaged wheels leaking fuel tank etc. This was my fathers car and has great sentimental value, I told Drew this and asked him to take care of it for me, to which he agreed. Drew's word is not good, and his mechanics treated my car like an inconvenience they didn't want to deal with. I even fabricated a part myself just so they could get the work done in a timely matter. Wasted thousands of dollars with them. Worst mechanic experience I've ever had RIPPED ME OFF!!! read more

This place saved my life, when my Boxter just up and quit on me in Placerville en route to the Tahoe area. The owner/manager was extremely helpful in making sure that my car arrived via a tow company I had accessed via AAA. He also got me out of there in time to pick up a rental car at a nearby Enterprise location. Because it was around close of business and approaching the wekend, I drove on to Tahoe. In a few days (as promised), they called and I returned. My car had a faulty fuel pump and it was replaced and my car was ready to roll. It turns out I was very fortunate that my breakdown occured near this town, as apparently nobody services Porsches further up the hill. I strongly recommend this shop for its responsiveness and expertise working with Porsches (and presumably other German cars). They were lifesavers for me! read more

Do not take your cars here. I hate to make a bad review on a local business but my experience was unsatisfactory, to say the least. First off, this shop had my car for 3 over weeks. I brought it in for a check engine light and a drivetrain warning that would come on when accelerating over 2K RPM. After barely hearing from the shop, what seemed like me constantly calling them to get some kind of feedback, a rep calls me and says my car is now done. When picking up the car they explain, the warning light is still coming on but I need to drive the car to "reset the computer". After charging me nearly $2400 I drive my car home WITH THE SAME ISSUES IT HAD WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. I start the car this morning to drive to work and the check engine light is on. I feel like I got absolutely ripped off. There should be absolutely no reason my check engine light is on AND my warning light still comes on after 3 weeks at your shop AND $2400 later. I honestly feel like they weren't sure what was wrong so they just started guessing. I've called them 2 times today to get more info and what exactly I need to do but no answer and no phone call back. I repeat, do not take your cars here. I had just bought a used BMW from a scumbag in Roseville and every looked and ran exceptionally well. Well little did I know this shop hid all things wrong with this car and me not knowing a damn thing about cars, didn't notice. After 4 days the thing was leaking oil and coolant like a broken faucet. After a week long depression and many looks in the mirror letting myself know how dumb I am. I stumbled across Vlad at German Autowerks Needless to say the amount of time and money this guy helped me out with made all the difference in the world to me. Not only is he a great German auto mechanic but he's got above par customer service and he's extremely good at explaining stuff to someone who doesn't know one damn thing about cars. We brought our BMW to German Auto Werks because the battery kept draining and wouldn't start in the morning. They charged for a diagnostic and gave such a grim report about everything from bad catalytic converters to drive train issues that we ended up buying a new car. Mind you, this BMW was our daily driver up until this point. After having it for 3 weeks, they said it was overheating after changing the spark plugs. We decided to get the car out of that shop after hearing that spark plugs have nothing to do with the car not cranking over in the morning. They charged us around $500 for the spark plugs after having it for over 3 weeks, but the car would still not take a charge or turn over when they jumped it so we could drive it out of there. Just to be clear, we were able to jump it every morning and drive it all day before bringing it to German Auto Werks, and had just installed a new battery ourselves before bringing it in. Drew, the owner, advised us that it needed a new alternator and a new electric water pump. We had another mechanic look at it, and in less than an hour had diagnosed the real problem.... the heater blower motor control module had gone bad and was draining the battery. A $45 part and an hours labor and the problem was resolved. It also had a sticky thermostat which took care of the overheating problem. For a couple hundred bucks at a knowledgable mechanic we could have saved ourselves weeks of agony with German Auto Werks. Oh, and to top it off the front end was damaged which they also said was not their fault. Now our insurance company has to go after them to fix the damages. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO GERMAN AUTO WERKS UNLESS YOU LIKE SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NO DIAGNOSTIC SKILLS AND WILL DAMAGE YOUR CAR WHILE CHARGING A LOT OF MONEY FOR UNNECESSARY WORK. read more

Excellent shop. Very knowledgeable. I picked up my 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon from Tahoe after getting "repaired" and it lost all coolant before I could get home. Luckily, it was near German Auto Werks, and we had it towed there. The folks at Autozone recommend them. They diagnosed my problem honestly and quickly, found other issues along the way and repaired them while completing the original repair. The labor rate here is extremely fair for any repair shop, let alone specializing in german cars. Well I give two thumbs up on this place. Got two guesstimates on my BMW for some kind of oil leak and got high estimates and really not knowing what it could be. So driving around with leaking oil for awhile until I saw this place after shopping at Safeway.Went in talked to guy behind desk (owner) and he came out and he actually checked out my problem put it on a lift, and seemed to guess the problem and blah, blah, blah. Told the husband no questions asked that I'm taking it here to get fix. And there you have it my car does not leak anymore. If it wasn't for Drew English I still be driving around in my leaky car. Oh yeah price very good plus we had the part that he had to replace so that was a plus.
