I went to the Germantown Ace store to have a broken Craftsman socket warrantied after it split open while I was doing a major project at my house. I was told by the owner that his store doesn't warranty Craftsman products. When I asked why not, he alleged that he would be out of business in a week if he did and that he loses money to ship broken tools to Craftsman. He said I would have to drive 15 miles to the Lowes store in Wauwatosa to get a replacement. This greedy shyster is more than happy to sell Craftsman products all day long for profit but won't do the mandatory support of the product after the sale. They're the worst and they won't see another dime from me! read more

Scott, the manager, was very comfortable being disrespectful to my partner and I. As soon as we asked the woman at the front counter about returning a lawn mower that fell apart as soon as we brought it home, we heard a condescending voice from across the store say "that's not going to happen". Scott continued to speak from behind a shelf until we asked him to come speak with us since the woman at the front desk was asking him all the questions. Scott interrupted my partner repeatedly and offered no remorse for the absolute inconvenience a broken mower was to haul. He cut her off with "so you're saying I'm lying?" Multiple times rather than having a discussion about the issue with the mower. Scott at one point looked at both of us and said "who am I talking to? Should I stand here or here?" While he laughed in our faces. Scott antagonized my partner while she attempted to resolve the situation. Scott claimed that "he didn't tell us to drive back and forth from new Berlin for the mower" but justified his behavior and disrespect because Scott had to drive back and forth for the correct bolt to fix the mower. Keep in mind Scott works at a hardware store. Rebecca, the woman at the front counter told me that Scott is busy because it's inventory day. On inventory day, Scott is a a bit casual in how he communicates. So Scott can treat customers disrespectfully because it is inventory day? She seemed to feel the need to justify his behavior to me. It's a shame that supporting a local business was not appreciated when we spoke to Harry, the owner of this store and the Franklin location. Harry was okay with Scott treating customers this way. Or maybe Ace hardware is just another cliché hardware store where woman can be treated as less than. As another review on this page stated, she was laughed at when she asked for an item in this store by two male managers. Curious who it was.. The disrespect from men in a hardware store, being brushed off, interrupted and not listened to are not new things as a woman who is renovating a second home. I would encourage you to shop somewhere else such as Neu's or Bliffert. read more

We brought our Toro lawnmower here for service and repair. Everyone was so helpful and nice even when they were very busy. Drop-off was super simple and the employees even helped unload the lawnmower from my vehicle. They don't do service at the store. The service is done at their Franklin location so I was a little nervous it would take a while for our lawnmower to be ready. I was wrong! I dropped it off on a Saturday and it was ready to be picked up on Wednesday! I was shocked! Overall, we will be bringing our lawnmower back here for service and repairs! read more

Lose the know it all attitude. Looked up item before going to ACE, to have elderly csr, flat out say they don't carry item, proceeds to backpedal, when he decided to look up item. Says oh, guess we can order this. Its was at this point, I told I was going to Home Depot because they in fact had my item in stock. I believe in Supporting my local hometown businesses, first. NOT in this case. Put in the time. Drive to Neu's Hardware. They're a ACE affiliate. Go to Hahn TrueValve, heck I'll drive to Tennies True Value in Jackson or West Bend, before stepping foot inside that fakea...s, joke of a store, ACE TrueValue, Germantown. Understocked. Overpriced. Went to Ace because there was a coupon in the mail and I needed some new tools but when checking out, the manager told me the coupon wasn't valid when it was. After he read it and stared at me for about a minute, I was told I could pay. Then he said "you can leave now". I find this extremely unprofessional, especially from a manager. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Love this store! I am always greeted with a hello and how can I help. They have some very good product lines like Stihl, Weber and Craftsman. I've purchased several things from Chainsaws to tools. When I have had questions, there seemed to be several of the sales reps who were knowledgeable or they at least knew where to find the answers and being so close to where I live is a huge plus. Not the largest of home improvement stores but when it comes to those small items which you may not find elsewhere, Ace is the place! read more

This place is a gem. Despite its tiny size compared to Home Depot and Menard's, they almost have everything that you want. I love their hardware section with nuts and bolts and everything you'd ever need. I bought a Toro snowblower there prior to the first real snow, and they put it all together for me, even put oil and some gas in, showed me how to operate it etc. You certainly can't get that kind of service at the big guys. When - through user error - I lost some hardware from the snowblower (a tightening knob with nut and bolt), I was apprehensive on how to fix it. I went to Ace, and they hooked me up with the exact same contraption as what I lost in the snow. The staff is very nice; you always get greeted at the door and offer help if you need it. Sometimes (but more not as much as you'd expect), they are a bit more expensive than prices elsewhere or online, but the convenience of always having a friendly local to help you it beats everything. I highly recommend this store to all in Germantown and surroundings. Save yourself the trip to County Line next time! read more

I walked in the door, was greeted by a young female associate and two old men. The young woman asked what I was looking for. I told her, she thought a moment, and then walked to the section the product I was looking for was located. She was very helpful, she was not the issue. The issue was the two old men, who started laughing and making derogatory comments when I stated the product I was looking for, a MadeSmart Drawer Organizer. I do not appreciate being laughed at, especially when I am a paying customer, and a local homeowner to boot. In case no one told these two old men, women are capable of owning property and purchasing goods for said property. My husband and I were so excited when Ace went in, as it is walking distance from our house, and could save us from trekking to Home Depot, Menards, Lowe's, etc. We will not set foot in this store again.
