A good friend had been recommending Gertie's for quite a while, so four of us happily made it there for a mid-week dinner out. The building is right in the heart of Clarence center, and fits into the surrounding vintage architecture. Interior is beautifully maintained and there is plenty of inside & outside dining. Menu is succinct but has good variety of beef, chicken, fish, & veggie options. I had the sea bass over risotto with coconut curry, which I luv'd. App menu was impressive, from which we got perfectly cooked pepper-crusted seared tuna and the yummy soup de jour. I don't know where to begin. We showed up for our 5 o'clock reservation restaurant was empty. It was a Tuesday night. We were asked if we wanted an inside or outside we chose inside. We sat down at our table. The owner came by said hello thanks for coming. That was nice. We told him it was our anniversary. He bought us a bottle of champagne, nice gesture thank you. After that, the waitress came up took our order. We ordered a bottle of wine. We ordered our entrées. She was very nice but new. She didn't know what the dinners came with, but that's all right. She's new. She brought out the bread. i'm not mistaken. It was a Constanzo sub roll heat it up. It's good, but really? she brought out our salads but only one because my entrée didn't get a salad, but she didn't know and I was under the impression all entrées get a salad so we started to eat and noticed we didn't have any napkins so I looked around. Nobody had napkins then looked outside. Everybody had cloth napkins on the table. She came back and gave us paper napkins, $48 entrée and we got paper napkins. She brought out her entrées. My wife's Seabass was actually good, but the side of carrot sticks were raw and the mashed potatoes was out of a box. The potatoes were larger than the entrée. My chicken Parm was deep-fried and well done as you can see in the picture. The sauce on the chicken parm was horrible. The penne pasta was cooked right but had that chunky sauce on it. We read all the reviews and they were not good. But we thought we'd give it a try anyways the owner said they've been open for six weeks and that's plenty of time to work out the bugs but unfortunately, we will never be going back. Went here for dinner last week. Food was better tasting than it looked. Flatbread pizza was tasty, cheese could have been a little more well done. Fingers didn't seem homemade but the sauces were good (honey garlic and hot). Chicken finger melt was basic, an upgrade in bread would really help it out. Waitress was nice but food took a long time to come out, even when there weren't many people . Seems like the menu changed recently and went to a more casual one, however the prices stayed high for what it is. The finger sandwich was almost 30 dollars!! We are locals and wanted to try this place out again since under new ownership... we had high hopes. Way overpriced to start, meatballs were so overcooked my knife could barely cut them! The chicken Marsala was definitely not chicken Marsala, dry chicken, no flavoring at all! Our salad was drowning in dressing we couldn't even eat it. First of all, my lamb chop lollipops were excellent. Perfectly cooked and juicy. Never had better anywhere! The prices are a bit off putting though. Even for Clarence, where I live. $18 for a very weak Cosmo was ridiculous. I ordered a 2nd requesting they make it a bit stronger. They didn't. I have Cosmos everywhere and these were definitely the weakest ever. Will not order those again. Maybe drinks at home afterward. We also spent the evening shooing away gnats. Was slightly reluctant to go to Gertie's after reading the reviews re the new owners but they obviously got their act together. The menu is short and sweet, the way I like it. My wife and I used to frequent Gerties almost every week before the new ownership took over. We had not been to Gerties in awhile. I was very very disappointed with the new ownership, the new decor, the menu changes and food quality my last visit about 6 months ago. I was forced to return since I had a gift card. I was hopeful that the restaurant had turned around. . My wife had the fish which was good. I had the Bolognese which was awful one of the worst Bolognese I have ever tasted. Much to my surprise Tina was no longer the manager. She put her heart and soul into the restaurant. I am not sure what happened there. In my opinion things have not turned around. She proceeded to seat us inside, but the air conditioning was not working We asked her to seat us outside and she asked us to Carry our menu and water Brought us our bottle of wine set it on the table and asked if we wanted her to pour it really The food was okay at best. New owners bought in a new chef and he has turned this restaurant into a great place. Not that it wasn't good before but this new chef really puts it all together! Finally another great restaurant that isn't the same old pub food that Buffalo has to many of. Many options to choose from and several daily specials too. The flavors this new chef pours into his dishes makes them all flavor bombs! Very unique touches that really elevates the food. Started with artichokes and also the calamari and both were excellent. Had an amazing dinner at Gertie's the other night! This was our first time going, and I was honestly surprised at how big it was inside! They do not have a parking lot, but on-street parking was easy to find so we only had a short walk. We started off with the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. It was very flavorful and creamy, and they gave us lots of bread to dip with. For our entrees, I had the chef's choice pork chop with mashed potatoes and veg (green beans and zucchini) and my husband had the black and blue NY strip steak with mashed potatoes and veg. Both we AMAZING. The pork was so juicy, and it came with the chef's sauce for the evening which was the perfect addition. Everything was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. Went here because I heard it was the chef bacchus, a restaurant I love. However my experience here was nowhere near that level of dining. The waitress was nice but it did take quite a while to even get our drink orders then a while to get our food. Cocktails were both gross and $15 each even though prices weren't listed on menu. The blood orange margarita tasted like it was made from a gross artificial mix with cheap tequila. The "wedge salad" was not a wedge salad it was just romaine with some store bought tasting blue cheese dressing on it, no fresh blue cheese like a traditional wedge salad has. The tuna sashimi had good flavor but was room temp and the bolognese was cold and didn't have a good flavor. Kind of tasted like cafeteria food but not hot. The tomato basil soup was very acidic tasting (no robust flavor) and there were no "grilled cheese croutons" as described. Disappointing experience for a birthday meal given how much money we spent. In the mostly empty place, the lovely waitress who eventually came to our table took our wine order. Returned to say they were out of our choice. Came back to say that our second choice was also unavailable. She did recommend a variety she knew was. When our wine finally came, we became concerned as no one in the restaurant seemed to have any food. We inquired how long she estimated it might take to actually receive ordered food and was told it was likely 25 minutes or more. We used to LOVE this place. The food was great, the atmosphere was fantastic inside and out and the people were like friends. Sadly, the changes under new ownership are disappointing. New menu items are not exciting, and the old favorites are gone or so altered as to be unrecognizable (pork chop, calamari, taco Tuesday). Most troubling are the staff changes. Wow.. why have I not been here before today? Family and friends have spoke about there great experience here. Glad we came in. The whole wheat rolls with the rosemary, roasted garlic oil and balsamic were tasty just needed a little butter. For my main dish the twin filets. It was melt in your mouth, high quality beef! The red wine reduction was great. The vegetables were fresh, crisp and tasted great. The mashed potatoes were the best I have ever had and I would come back just for them. High five to our server Katherine and the kitchen staff. This isn't a great time to own a restaurant during these crazy times. Glad we came out to support local business. Visited on a Tuesday. There were so many specials on food and wine. I got the steak tacos. They were delicious!

Ordered take out online, I picked up as soon as it was ready 5 min drive home. The peppers were flat maybe 1/2 inch thick and sitting in the same depth of butter, completely mushy and salty. The chicken and mashed potatoes dinner was also very unappealing, two chicken breasts very dark fried with no flavor, seasoning or sauce. If I wanted to put hot sauce on two chicken fingers I would've ordered from Clarence pizza, and the peppers from Dash's. My husband and I have been here twice, the second time because we had a gift card. The building is cute. You enter through the bar and the hostess/bartender was very nice. Bar looked nice but we didn't sit there. We were seated at a table near the back door which looks out over a beautiful little courtyard. Unfortunately the entire back wall does this weird shaking thing, which you can hear and feel all through the back room. We were there on a Thursday night. We were one of four tables. My husband had a salad and I had a pizza. The menu said that the pizza dough is house-made, which I doubt because it was shaped in a perfect rectangle like store-bought flatbreads. It took about 25 mins to get the food which seemed excessive. It was good but we spent $50 on a salad, flatbread and two drinks. The first time we went to gerties, the owner came out to ask why we didn't finish our app. We told her we didn't really like it for a reason I can't remember and she got really mad. Had a very nice dinner here recently. A nice little spot in downtown Clarence Center. We started with some of the salads on the menu. I had a beet salad. It was good but not great the beets lacked any real distinct flavor and the goat cheese was a little sparse. What made the difference from bad to good was the balsamic glaze that added a very nice touch. My dining companions had a Margherita pizza and the chicken schnitzel respectively. Both showed up hot and fresh. The pizza was very good. Lots of fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. The chicken schnitzel was outstanding. Nice breaded I. What looked to be panko. It was hot and delicious with a nice garlic aioli. I decided on the Chicago beef sandwich. It is a great simple sandwich. With a nice simple slaw and some hot and spicy giardiennia. Nice place, great warm colors, excellent service. Had the seafood Diablo. Chunks of wild fresh north Atlantic lobster tail, bay scallops, fresh gulf shrimp and hot peppers sautéed in a spicy marinara sauce and served over angel hair pasta and garlic bread. This dinner was great but my guest had the salmon which was good but the salmon was kind of dry. But wait...let me catch my breath.... DESSERTS! The most spectacular desserts. We had the chocolate cake, laden with cognac which was possibly the best chocolate I have ever eaten, we also shared a meringue dessert with silky whipped cream covered in fresh berries, I'm not sure if I'll go back for dinner but I WILL DEF BE BACK FOR DESSERT SOON! read more

This is my favorite place to eat. Before he went into care, I went here with my father for lunch every Tuesday. We never once had a bad experience, the waitress (Debbie) always handled any specific requests we had (sitting away from groups of people or near a window) and even remembered them every time we were there. Always remembered our drink orders as well. There is no formal parking lot as far as I can tell. There's plenty of street parking and there are two parking lots nearby. We never had an issue. This was my first time to Gerties, and it was a nice experience! The decor inside was different than I expected, and there was a decent-sized seating area. There is also a bar that fits around 10 or so people, and many were enjoying a relaxing cocktail. We did not have reservations, and were able to be seated immediately in a Thursday night. The food ranges from 15ish to 45ish, with sandwiches and pizzas, up to seafood and more elegant selections. We both settled on the specials, which were $15. They also had drink specials, and we really enjoyed the white sangria. Plenty of fruit, and nice and chilled, I would DEFINITELY go back for another of those!! I had the spaghetti and meatballs, which was good. My sister-in-law had the white pizza, which was flatbread style and very tasty as well. Our server was pleasant, and it was a nice, non-rushed meal. This restaurant is in need of a new bartender ASAP. I've been here once before and noticed this grouchy old man behind the bar before but my experience this time was just mind blowing and too insane not to share. My friend and I were taking a walk through clarence center on Thursday and just wanted to have some drinks at the bar. When we walked in, we were completely ignored by the bartender who looked right at us and ACTUALLY said "jesus fucking christ" when he saw us walk in. We thought maybe we misheard him or perhaps he was talking about something else....anyway, he ignored us for 5 minutes straight to a point where we were uncomfortable just standing in the restaurant. A cute server with light brown hair turned the corner and immediately greeted us and asked if we had a reservation. We told her we were just looking to sit at the bar and get a few drinks. She happily sat us and handed us some drink menus and gave us a food menu just incase, which we appreciated. The bartender continued to ignore us even though there were only 2 other guests at the bar who were already taken care of. He was standing there doing nothing but seemingly was annoyed we were even there. We finally demanded 2 glasses of wine from him and he served them to us without saying a single word - talk about awkward. We sat there sipping our wine and were absolutely shocked by what came next. The same server who sat us, walked over to the bartender and asked him a question. We were sitting in the chairs right next to the opening of the bar so we had front row seats to the entire conversation. He slammed the liquor bottle down that was in his hand and said "just open your fucking eyes it's all right behind me" and gestured to the liquor bottles. The girl seemed un-phased by his reaction which caught myself and my friend by surprise because we couldn't believe that just came out of his mouth loud enough for us to hear. She walked away and came back letting him know one of her tables was going to go a drink with grey goose and lemons squeezed inside of it instead of lemon flavored liquor. We watched her type the drink in and walk away. We then watched him make the drink, and he did not use the grey goose as she had specified. When she returned to grab the "grey goose" drink, something must have been wrong with the other drink she typed in because she called him over and asked him to remake it "without fruit." He actually threw a fit and at first, refused to remake the drink for her. She replied that she typed everything in exactly how they wanted it and she would appreciate it if he could make it how they requested. He then proceeded to say "tell those fucking whores that sangrias come with fruit. that's the whole point of a fucking sangria." The server asked him nicely again to just please remake the drink how she typed it on the ticket and she stood there with the "grey goose" drink in her hand while waiting for the other drink to be remade. When he walked towards the other side of the bar to remake the second drink, I leaned over to her and let her know that he did not use grey goose or squeezed lemons for the drink in her hand. I told her that we watched him use a lemon flavored liquor even though we both heard her request grey goose. She leaned over the bar to grab the paper ticket and turned to us and said "I'm not sure what else to do. I typed in grey goose." She seemed defeated and my friend and I both felt terrible for her. He walked back over and she thanked him for the re made drink and then said "just want to confirm this one was made with grey goose and squeezed lemons?" And he said "Yeah whatever you put on the ticket is how I made it. Now just go. Get these fucking drinks out of my face." What a disgusting man! So negative, unhappy and honestly just a disgusting person. Once he said that, we literally couldn't take it anymore. We asked him if we could sit outside with our drinks and he actually replied "Yeah you're not even supposed to be sitting up here unless you're ordering food." We couldn't believe it!!! He was now being rude to us and making it as if we were not allowed to be sitting at the bar enjoying drinks. That's what the bar is for!!!!! This is definitely not someone you want greeting your guests when you first walk in. The majority of these 1 star reviews are in regards to this man! Not sure who the owner or manager is or why they aren't taking care of this seemingly prominent issue but if I was that server, I would file a complaint ASAP. We will not be returning and we will be finding out who the owner/manager is and we will be writing to them about our experience. read more

Since my original visit, I've only been back once for a baby shower. It was tastefully done, the food was decent, and the servers were very accommodating. It was a private event, and no other diners were present, which was nice. But it reminded me how small and uncomfortable the space is. Yesterday evening myself and 5 of my girlfriends treated ourselves to dinner and drinks at Gerties. We enjoyed the meals and our server but unfortunately our night was completley ruined by a rude staff member. This staff member throughout our dinner made us feel as if we had to rush through our evening, at one point he stood approx 5 feet from our table and just stared at us, before coming over and shutting off lights around our table. Our reservations were for 630 pm, it was approx 9 when we decided to head to the bar as we got the impression they wanted to close the dining area. There were patrons in the bar area and as we were transitioning and finding seats, the same gentleman who had been glaring at us all evening, proceeded to yell at one of my friends, stating she had to be quiet, she was too loud. Everyone in my party actually thought at first the gentleman was joking, because it was so abrasive and rude and my friend was only telling a story. My friend was so upset she actually left the restaurant immediately, we ended up rushing after her and leaving our drinks we had ordered and paid for. We paid over $500 for our dinner, not including the seperate drinks we paid for at the bar and I am very sad to say even as a resident of Clarence I will not be returning to this establishment any time soon. Went there for brunch today with some friends and it was definitely a good choice. The environment was great, very casual and laid back. The staff was very friendly and always smiling. While the specials looked amazing, we stuck with the regular menu. The male friend had the French Quiche Lorraine, very light & fluffy, excellent flavor and the side of sausage was delicious!! I had the Huevos Rancheros. Eggs were perfect and the rancheros sauce was very flavorful. The female friend had the Ixtapa Benedict which was pretty much my breakfast with chorizo sausage added. The sausage was very spicy, but not overly so. All of the breakfasts had roasted white & sweet potatoes that were some of the best I've ever had. I went to Gertie's on a Friday around lunchtime. I was not expecting the restaurant to be in the town of Clarence but I found out that it was when I got to the restaurant. Parking is a little tough because you have to park on the street. The restaurant is in a house sort of. I actually like those types of restaurants as well as salons. Our waitress was very friendly but I was surprised there was only one waitress in the whole place. I did find that the food took awhile but nothing too long. I ordered the Chicago beef which was good (it had a little too much beef on it for me) and I also found that my side of potatoes were a bit too salty and burned. read more
