Good service, food and company. All were were excellent. We are so grateful for a good restaurant this side of town.

Food was ok... lunch on a Thursday. Crab cakes... mezza mezza... good thing the sauce gave them some flavor...too much boring bread crumbs & corn? In a crab cake? Shrimp appetizer was delish but 3 shrimp. Salad pretty good... a funky lil round 1/2 bread roll with butter and parsley... no crunch at all. Service was horrible... just gave us the bill for our meal... never asking if we were done....so that had to be redone cause we wanted desert. We went to the bar...ordered 2 Irish coffee.. that's what we got ... just black with Jamison... no cream even mentioned or inquired about. Again the bill... we wanted a coffee Kalua ... Told one server who had to tell another but she brought 2... no we only asked for one. Then we asked if we needed to leave..'no it's fine the chef is here' ok... then another one comes to let us know she needed to leave... but we were told we could stay. So hurried us out. Decided to try the new digs. I ordered the filet mingon which was done to perfection! I was disappointed that the veggie it came with was strictly zucchini and not a mix. My husband ordered the sole which was good. My son ordered the French dip which was good, not as much meat as I would expect but good. My other son, he ordered the 1/2 burger. Not only it came 5 minutes after everyone else's meal it was burned . I gotta say, I liked the old place better when it was family style and you got bigger portions! Very pricey $134 for 4 people. Not only is there food amazing!, but they took 12 of us at the last minute, due to another restaurant not being open, even though they said they would be, it was my daughters birthday! First of all maybe get the door fixed because the slamming is distracting. The staff hustles a lot but the service is still slow and wasnt very friendly. I had pretty low expectations because people seem to go here based on sentimentality. The prices are pretty high- maybe 15-20% over what youd expect. We ordered three different meats- pepper steak med rare, filet rare and a steak sandwich med- and all three were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The pumpkin cheesecake was also pretty good. We stepped in for dinner for the first time Friday. The place was clean and the service was not bad but the food was far below my expectations. I ordered pasta and the dish would have taken an easy loss to a Marie Calendar's frozen dinner. The garden salad had several pieces that were wilted to the point of being soggy (I sent it back). My lady got a seafood dish with mussels and clams. She said it was pretty good but the Clam Chowder tasted like it was from a can. Overall we were very disappointed! read more

So I am a "foodie" and have been in the original restaurant and always enjoyed the Lamb Shanks and Osso Bocco. When I took my GF out for a special night, I drove all over town until I thought of again going to dinner at Gervasoni's.... I did and I am happy again... The food was great, not good.... The service great too. There were people enjoying the evening and it was a nice change. I have been back on more than 6 occasions in the last month... I Celebrated my birthday with over 20 friends and family members who enjoy food and good times and they all were happy. I'm excited to get out to the new location! Has been a family favorite for years and years. I personally go for the ribeye, but others in my family love the rack of lamb. We will be out there very soon! I was finally able to make it out there this evening. The service was great, the environment was fun and engaging. The Restaurant was full and the food, well it was just as I remembered from the downtown location. I had the Ribeye and it was phenomenal, my wife had the shrimp linguini, she enjoyed her's as well. Looks a little like a bar from the outside BUT the dining room is separate and although you can hear a little noise it's all local folks relaxing at the end of the week completely respectful. We were seated quickly, the hostess and our server did a fantastic job. They serve fresh outta the oven sour dough rolls. We also had clam chowder, fresh green salad, chicken marsala & calamari. My husband and I were looking for a restaurant that served seafood... found this place online and decided to give it a try. We were seated pretty quickly however waited about 30 minutes for our order to be taken. The menu has a variety of choices...seafood ( oysters, calamari, salmon) steak, chicken and even hamburgers. My husband was stoked to see they served frogs legs...something you don't find often. He ended up making his dinner from a couple of "appetizer " choices...including the frog legs and deep fried oysters. I went with the chicken Marsala. I was a tad disappointed because I am used to ordering Marsala and it is served with pasta. I assumed this was as well so I was confused one of my " side choices" was pasta. That's where I made my mistake, thinking it was coming with pasta as has been my experience in the past.... I ordered the Marsala dinner with a vegetable and fries. I never eat fries and ordered them so my husband could eat them because I thought my chicken came on pasta. When the waitress brought me my plate and I saw just the piece of chicken there with zucchini and fries... I actually thought she had brought me the wrong plate...lol! I was expecting a piece of chicken with a sauce on top of pasta. It was not. The chicken was okay, I would've preferred it with a gravy or sauce on top like I am used to. I was served soup before my meal...chicken verde soup...which I have never had before and it was quite delicious. My husband however absolutely loved his frog legs and oysters. So much in fact, he asked me today if we could go back again. He said he definitely wants to go back and my he is very picky! I'm happy to see there is a local restaurant that serves a couple of his favorites. Other than taking a long time to order, service was good and they were attentive after our food was served. This use to be my favorite place to get a steak in modesto. The service is still great, and the bar area is amazing. I ordered a $35 steak which i ordered medium rare. It came out just about medium and had literally no salt or pepper that i could speak of. It wasn't horrible since i can live with a medium cooked steak, but in the end it was pretty lackluster for the price. The dining area is brightly lit, and the booths were pretty small. I will be back again to see if this experience was a fluke, but in the end none of the 3 of us that went left going: wow that was really good. read more

I really want Gervasoni's to succeed, as I live in a very close proximity and have been waiting for them to open for over a year. The place is packed always so I don't want to discredit what other people may like but it's just not a restaurant that pulls me nor draws interest. I sat on the bar side, which was reminiscent of the 80's show Cheer's, however much smaller. Lots of brass and wood if that gives you an idea. The dining area is small overall. The food was ehhh that's all I can think of. Minestrone was warm at best and Ribeye was under seasoned if even seasoned at all. I have no desire to come back, however my 15 year old daughter went with a friend and received the worst service. I know sometimes waitstaff think teens don't tip so they slack off on service but my teen tips! Your loss. Took 25 min just for waters, 30 more min for the wrong food to come out and a 60 dollar bill to top it off. Not worth it to me and I will not allow my daughter to go back without a parent since they treated her with such bad service. read more

New restaurant-open two weeks. Three of us had drinks and meals. Service was poor. Food was too pricey and my bun less hamburger did not have enough lettuce to wrap it and it could not be picked up. If you are looking for a good steak or prime rib, look no further! My husband and I went here for dinner since they moved to this location. What they lack in decor and fancy atmosphere they more than make it up in the food. Menu is basic but because it is, everything is done right. Or at least our steaks did. I order the New York steak medium and it came out perfect, juicy and tender with nice grill marks. My husbands prime rib came out melt in your mouth tender. Both was better than what we got at Texas Roadhouse. Even the salad and rice pilaf was better. Next time I'll try the rib eye. Prices are higher but ounce for ounce comparing to the same prime steaks at Texas Roadhouse it's the same. And the service was fast and attentive read more

My husband and I went for an early dinner on a weeknight. There were two tables occupied. We were seated across from the waitress and hostess station and it was noisy. They let us move with no problem, but it was awkward. We should have had a better table from the start. The service was fine, no complaints.The minastroni soup was too tomato for my taste. The cesear salad was fine. I had salmon and my husband had sole. The small piece of salmon was dry and too salty. The vegies were probably frozen and pretty soft, but pretty good. We ate at this restaurant for the first time on a Friday evening around 5:30. We walked into an extremely loud and crowded place. The hostess walked us to the bar and said "we only have room to sit at the bar. She could have said that to begin with and let us make the choice. Anyway it was more quiet so we sat at the bar. ONLY 2 bartenders for the whole place. They were so busy they were running into each other. They were friendly though We had the ribeye which was excellent they charged us extra to share the meal. I have been going to Gervasoni's since 2007 when it was downtown and we would all go from Merrill Lynch after work for drinks and dinner. I loved the downtown location and love how they brought some of that ambience to the new location. I have been to the new location a few times and am happy to see that it is still just as good if not better than before! Ran into the owner a few days ago and said we were going to be there Saturday night. We asked if they were going to have prime rib, and they said "for you we will." Sure enough, we came in on Saturday night to celebrate the birthday of a friend and prime rib was on the menu. Everything, from the prime rib to the rack of lamb was perfect. Ok, our first time at the new location but the second time for who we went with. First impressions; parking is strange, outside of the building is nice. The bar is really nice and comfortable with reasonably priced drinks, beer menu is pretty basic. The dining room is kind of sterile with little personality but appears very clean. Service is kind of slow and seems very inexperienced (ours didn't know how to count back change). Tables are very basic with ketchup and mustard in plastic bottles on the table. Silverware wrapped in nice linen napkins, but the silverware is super cheap like you would get at Home Town Buffet or any cafeteria, soft drinks and water come in cheap plastic cups like you would find in a cafeteria. Took awhile to get our food, but it was a busy Friday. The staff seemed a bit panicked because of inexperience. The salads and soup were very good but hard to puncture the salad because of the cheap dull forks. Calamari was very good, moist and tender with nice sides. Prime rib sandwich was an excellent choice, meat was good and came with real au jus. Chicken piccata was on point and rib eye was excellent, cooked perfectly. Overall good meal. Maybe they still need to work out the kinks and dress the place up and then they'll have what it takes to match the high prices. What a crazy night. I was excited that they reopened and was looking forward to the pork chops. We walked in and no one was seating you. I asked can we set are self and was told yes. We grab a table right next to the bar, we sat there for 15 min before this nice lady at the bar told the girl behind the bar we were there. She went and got the waitress. She said sorry for the wait and took are drink order, wait 25 more minutes and no drinks. I asked the bartender where was are drinks and said your waitress never put a drink order in. So after are Friends showed up we ordered are food. 35 min later the waitress came out and said the kitchen is running behind and food would be out soon. 10 min goes bye and no food. We asked for bread and butter to hold us over. The waitress brought a basket of bread and butter but we never received the Place settings. We said come on, what's going on here. Our family recently had the misfortune of dining at this establishment. As a kid my family dined at the location downtown and I had nothing but very fond memories of the people and the really great food, so for my husband's 50th birthday and a cousins birthday I chose Gervasoni's. Boy did I ever step in it with this poor decision. However I did attempt to do things the right way. Several days before his birthday I called and requested reservations. I Was told that reservations were only allowed for parties of 10 or more. I clearly stated it was my husband's 50th birthday and I wanted things to run smoothly. I was told they would have "no trouble" accommodating our party. Since his birthday fell on a Tuesday I figured it would be okay to dine here without reservations. Our party arrived at 6:30. We were told it would be a 45 min wait in order for our party to sit together for our family celebration. Because everyone was so excited to eat here we chose to wait. What's a little wait time when the food is supposed to be amazing, right? Approximately an hour and 10 min later we were still waiting. We were then told that the only way we could eat was if our party sat at two different tables - across the room from each other. Things only went down hill from there. Our drink orders were forgotten and after requesting them twice it took 25 min to receive them. After taking our food order it took no less than 40 min to receive our food. My husband's 30$ steak was over cooked, extremely fatty, and not seasoned well, if it was seasoned at all. This was not the cut of meat the menu claimed It to be. It was almost as if they were using a very poor quality piece of meat and trying to pass it off as something it clearly was not. The vegetable sides served were over cooked to the point that they were slimy and ice cold. Just the sheer amount of poor cooking was, quite frankly, disgusting. Who thinks they can charge these prices for what doesn't even pass as decent food? Apparently Gervasoni's can. Sadly, after waiting no less than 40 min for our crappy food one member of our party received no food at all. When his pork chops didn't arrive we were told at first that they would be right out. 15 min later we were told the waitress had forgotten to put his order in. Another 20 min went by, and after our entire party had choked their way thru this less than stellar meal, the long awaited, much anticipated pork chops finally made an appearance (!) Overcooked and dry. Now you would think a restraunt of any quality what so ever would have the decency to at least comp this plate of food? I can tell you sincerely they had no plans to comp the plate, or anything for that matter. Only after it was discussed amongst our party, and our ever forgetful waitress overheard the conversation, was this one plate of food comped. 7 people attended this celebration with great expectations for a fabulous meal. Over 300$ was spent paying for crappy food and crappy service. Worst. Meal. Ever. If you're ever considering dining here all I can say is don't. Better food and better service can be found in a vending machine. Needless to say our family will never return to waste our hard earned money here ever again. read more

Where do I start....the place is in a sketchy, middle of nowhere location. Looks like a strip joint, extremely uninviting. The first time we tried this restaurant we were told they were closing early because they were out of so many items. Ended up trying this again after we accidentally passed Nino's. They were out of calamari, bread, soup, mushroom's, and lamb. On my fourth attempt to order they actually had a cheese burger, ordered medium. It came out 30 minutes later, well done and the bun was completely black, totally burnt. I couldn't believe the cooks actually served it. Came in for dinner Saturday night 8 pm, they close at 9. The menu is a little pricey, ordered the $35 lamb and s $9 well vodka Black Russian. Got the meal in about 30 mins. The dinner salad was completely drenched in dressing, 2 bites was all I could endure on that. 10 mins after that I was given the bill. With the "oh no hurry" the lamb rack was cooked and seasoned very well, but on the small side. 5 mins after I got the bill, I was asked if I'd like anything boxed? We told the server we were still eating our meals! So 10 mins later I said let's box the potato to take home. Ok. .waited some time. No server or potato, asked another server to track mine down. She said it got tossed in the garbage. They microwaved another one and sent me on my way. Took a look at it at home, it looked like a prune. That one got tossed by me. Side note the mgmt; if you're going to serve $35-$40 meals don't use cheap silverware. I was using knives from smart n final that run $5 a dozen. One customer came in at 8:50 I hope he fared well. You guys need to step up your game from service standpoint and the overall customer experience needs improving.
