Food is remarkable for the price, this is more than a diner. Breakfast is served all day, portions are generous, senior specials, large dinner specials all. Lunch is less $ than a stop at McDonald's. Almost always get the fried cod sandwich, it's big and very tasty. Soups are excellent, meaty chicken noodle and (when they have) it stuffed pepper soup tastes like a stuffed pepper. . Their cakes come from Baltimore and are wonderful, I promise you will never forget the baklava cake, when they have it prepare to share, decadent and large slice for what it is. Their iced tea is the best. Service is fast (when they're not swamped) and friendly, I come once a month on road trips but they remember me and check if everything is ok and a drink refill a couple of times. Good thing I don't live closer, probably would go once a week or more. Ambiance is different but friendly depending where you sit. At the counter I run into regular locals almost every visit. They are friendly and love, share stories and joke with their waitresses. But this is more than a diner. As well as the classic diner they have a private dining room for about 20 and a large dining room for more than 75. Some lunch times it has 50. We stopped into Hunterstown Diner for dinner and ended up seriously impressed with both the quality and the value. We both went with the dinner specials, which were only 14.99 each and came with two sides. I ordered the ribs and my husband got the NY strip with butterfly shrimp. For the price, the portions were honestly huge. My ribs were fall off the bone tender and coated in a tangy BBQ sauce that had just the right balance of sweet and smoky. Easily one of the better diner style rib plates I have had. The fries were natural cut, perfectly seasoned, and had that ideal texture where they are pillowy inside with a light crisp on the outside. The succotash was simple but still good and comforting. My husband's steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had great flavor throughout. The butterfly shrimp were crispy and paired really well with the steak. His side salad was super fresh with iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, and shredded cheddar. I did not even get a photo of it because he immediately dug in and loved it. The service really stood out too. Everyone was so attentive and quick to help with anything we needed like extra napkins or more sauce. It felt very welcoming and genuinely cared for. The interior has that true hometown diner feel where it seems like everyone knows each other. It is mostly booths with some tables and even a classic counter with stools, which gives it that nostalgic diner vibe. With both meals and drinks, our total was under $40, which feels rare lately for portions and quality like this. This is where the locals eat. The atmosphere is homey and casual. Quite nostalgic, it's where my granddad would have come. The servers knew most of the diners by name and you could tell they've been coming here for years. This felt like home. Service was friendly and fast. Food came out hot and quick. It was late at night and thankfully this diner was open. We were seated right away and our waitress quickly stopped by. We were happy to see they had a special menu for those over '55'. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs, my husband got the fried clams. Soup was included as well as a scoop of ice cream. My chicken soup was good as was my husband's crab soup. My spaghetti was ok but my husband really enjoyed his clam strips. The ice cream was really good. Our waitress was friendly, warm and checked on us quite a bit to make sure we were okay. You might consider this place a small truck stop.it has gas and diesel pumps.it also has a small convenience store. The menu has nice selection.No high end expensive dishes. Food had gone a bit down and doesn't seem like they quite know what toast is considering the bread comes out flimsy. Hash browns/home fries have always been bad...we just don't order them. Not sure what happened to the French Toast. Normally, it is really good. Today it was dry and had very little egg batter on it. Always a simple way of knowing if a local diner is any good...if you walk into a place and there is a table of police officers/troopers/sheriffs eating...then the food is good and the place is affordable. Never once has that failed me. As we were leaving Gettysburg we needed some breakfast and this place looked as good as any. This part of Pennsylvania certainly isn't the same as Northern NJ when it comes to demographics, but who cares if the food is good and people just leave others alone? Our waitress brought us some delicious coffee quickly and we were set to order when it was dropped off. I had two eggs fried hard, crispy bacon, and order of biscuits and hash browns. Wifey ordered a short stack of blueberry pancakes. I made three little bacon and egg biscuit sandwiches (the biscuits were small) and they were great... very good biscuits, even if small, and the hash browns were good too. Don't pass this little nonchalant dinner. It's tucked away right off the main US Rt15, but worth the added .25 miles and 30 minutes to your drive. Very reasonably priced and large servings. WORST DINER IVE EVER BEEN TO. We waited MINIMUM 45 minutes, so about an hour for our food. People came in way after us and got their food within 5-10 minutes and they noticed that too and were confused. Some of their orders were much bigger than ours, our order was a small order for two people. The manager was AWFUL his workers HORRIBLE they all had a big attitude and gave looks to their customers. When we asked where our food was they would walk by and ignore us and some of them said "just wait it's coming in 2 minutes" 15 minutes later they would say the same thing. This is the worst diner I've ever been to, if I could I wouldn't just give them 0 stars I would add a negative along with it. DO NOT COME HERE. We gave them respect and were patient for a very long time and they didn't respect us once. We were hungry and just wanted to eat, seems like they did not care whatsoever.
