I wanted to like it but this was unbelievably disappointing. First of all, a Korean restaurant where you don't get a single banchan on the table seems all kinds of wrong. Anyway, I let that go. Here are the dishes we ordered: Spicy Crab Kimbop: Large portion. Quite good. Potato Truffle Pancake: Quite average. Tasted more like hash brown. Fried shrimp skewers: Nothing special Tteokbokki: DO NOT get me started on this. I requested to add glass noodles to it which they did. They brought out the tteokbokki and took it back saying something was wrong and brought it back again. Anyway, our tteokbokki has NO FISH CAKES! Like what!? It was also not an add on option. It was quite underwhelming. The service was fast. The staff were courteous but I did not care for the food AT ALL. There are far better Korean restaurants in Austin with better food, less fuss, and FISH CAKES in tteokbokki and banchans on the table. Not worth the time or money imo. The broth hit, noodles are well cooked, seasoned well, meat is prepped well - though the amount of meat the give you with it is pretty pathetic, the taste is great! While their dakgangjung is easily the worst I ever tasted. I've legitimately gotten frozen ones from the hmart, that tasted better. Theirs were soggy, over cooked, while the sauce tasted like something from the bottle. Not to mention the amount they give is absolutely disrespectful, smh. Overall, it's a place I probably won't experiment trying new item menus, but sticking with what I know is good there. Walked in on a Friday evening around 5:45. Asked for a table for 2. Was offered a bar seat and was told they had no free tables. However, there was an empty table immediately to the left. They refused to seat us and put us on a waiting list that they said would last 20 minutes. If you have an empty table, even if it seats 4, You seat the two people waiting. Especially if you're a new restaurant that is trying to make a name for itself. There were children playing drums on their plates and another family with 2 toddlers where the toddlers were eating Mcdonalds or something. It was a very loud restaurant with no sound deadening. It stands to reason that if you're going to seat a family of 4 with 2 kids eating Happy Meals, that you can sit two grown adults at a table for 4. I can't comment on the food. I'm sure it's probably fine. But I'll never know due to the fact that their server was short with me and the restaurant left a very bad first impression. Thankfully, there are other options in the area that seem to value business. I look forward to trying the next restaurant to occupy this spot, as this place is on its way to following the poor taco place that predeceased this one. ***UPDATE*** The owner below states that others were waiting and/or had a reservation. There were no others waiting. Check their website. No ability to create reservations. Check OpenTable. No ability to create reservations. We were the only ones waiting and present, and waited 10 minutes while a table sat empty. You only get one chance to make a first impression. If you want a somewhat boujee atmosphere then come here. I do like the pork soup and the kimchi is decent. The prices for kimbap is very expensive. They do have some average prices for the dishes. My wife and I have dined here twice and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The Galbi Jjim is a standout--reminiscent of a classic Sunday roast, but with a Korean twist that's far more flavorful than the slow cooker meals I grew up with (no offense, Mom). Upon being seated, you're treated to a sampler of banchan, including kimchi, pickled daikon (I think), a crisp Asian-style coleslaw, and a noodle-like, slightly fishy dish that I couldn't quite identify--but I liked them all. For starters, the pork dumplings and Sotteok-sotteok are phenomenal. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and there's convenient parking available behind the restaurant. So I heard there was a sushi ramen place going into downtown Round Rock and then it all of a sudden became a Korean restaurant, but a little different than your typical Korean food. Everyone thinks of Korean BBQ when you think of Korean which this is not. I also would venture to say this although it's not fusion, is not traditional Korean either. One of their staple dishes is the tteok bukki which is a Korean street food with thick cylindrical rice noodles in a spicy sauce. I thought they did a pretty good job with this dish. They are also serving all sorts of kim bop which would be kinda like Korean sushi only I've only seen kim bop served with the same ingredients as opposed to hear where they serve it in a variety of ways like sushi rolls. They also serve a jjim or basically a stewed meat and potato type dish but they will warn you that it takes longer to cook. Everything we tried had good flavor. My main complaints would be they charge for white rice and I'm not sure how you plan the meal if ordering a jjim that is going to take longer then everything else. I guess you can possibly ask to to just wait on everything until the jjim is ready. read more

Soooooo good. I was on the hunt for Tteok-bokki and saw that this place served it, so I was excited to give it, and the restaurant itself, a try. So glad I did! Everything my friends and I ate here was excellent. The service was good and the staff, despite being busy, were attentive and helpful. Everyone in my group agreed we'll be eating here again, though next time with fewer dishes or more party members: the dishes are meant to be served family style so the portions are huge. Not a bad thing if you want tasty leftovers, but I'd rather introduce more friends to this great spot. I hope it sticks around for a long time! Edit: my one piece of feedback would be clarification on whether or not dishes are spicy. I LOVE spicy food, and will automatically seek those items out on a menu. If it's the case that the spice levels of the dishes have been muted across the board to appeal to American tastes, then it would be nice to have a little call-out on the menu that any item can be made spicy by request. read more

Wow. What a disappointment. Everything on the menu is confusing. The server was awful. Unhelpful and unable to walk us through the menu. The food was mid and the portions were small. Prices were high, ingredients were of good quality, but made little sense. Overall everything was below average taste and low value. The metal chopsticks suck at everything. The whole experience was awful and unless you're a Korean food person who knows what everything is, this place will infuriate and disappoint. I cannot stress enough how bad and useless our server was. We told him we didn't know or understand and he was absolutely no help. And don't even get us started on the oozie goozie hodduk with ice cream! The food came out at a reasonable time. We took a star off due to customer service. First time trying this place we decided to go with the appetizer : Dak-Gangjung . Great dish, loved the sauce on the meat. Lots of flavor and a subtle spice that slowly built. Then we tried 3 of the tofu pockets. We went with the Fried Salmon, Seafood mix, Spicy pork. We preferred both the seafood ones over the pork one. But all were good, just liked the flavor of the seafood ones better. Last we did a kimbob roll - chose the New Era one. It was good, a little more sauce than I would normally do. We were given aioli and Spicy Mayo but didn't see a need for either eith what we chose. The restaurant was nice, simple and basic and the staff was welcoming and answered questions- great service. Was nearby and decided to stop by and I am glad I did. I had not had the food I had at this meal. We had Hot Pot Bulgogi and Pork Bulgogi. All the food was yummy. Service was friendly, and attentive (thank you to Dimitri). He had us sample a "pocket" and I will return to make a run down that list. We drank a Chung Ha (wine). They have plenty of room. A great new restaurant that we will visit on repeat. This restaurant was recommended to me so when I was in Round Rock, I went with family and we all really enjoyed the rice cakes with sausage appetizer. It was crispy and delicious! If you're a Westerner you might enjoy the food but as a korean I did not enjoy the food. The kimbap portions are big and my non Korean husband enjoyed it but everything tasted too sweet for me. All the flavors were muted by the sweetness of the sauces and even the kimchi. Kimchi should be fresh with a nice kick and burst of flavor. Ended up checking out this place for a nice, quiet dinner. For a Monday, it was definitely a bit slow (which is to be expected) but the staff was really kind and sweet which is awesome to get even if it's slow. A little modern inside but the lighting was a little dim and cozy. The banchan (side dishes) were I want to say were a sweet/salty sliced fishcake, cubed radish kimchi (kkakdugi), a creamy mayo and corn pasta, and the usual napa kimchi. The cubed radish is my fav, very crunchy! We tried one of the seaweed pockets, the tuna mayo, which was really yummy. I especially enjoyed the little fried potato shavings on top, though admittedly there was an extra sauce under it which I feel like with a tuna mayo anything, you don't really need it! The menu I don't think mentioned the sauce. We also had some of the pork bulgogi and the army stew-- army stew was awesome, came in this sort of ... lol, sounds silly to say but a 'pail' with a handle. It comes ontop of this burner they light at your table so you can keep the stew as hot as you like it. Both the dishes had great flavor, though admittedly I get the feeling the spice level was toned down for the locals (I should have asked if I could get it spicier!) Last but not least, our server, Mereyah, was soooo attentive and helpful! She hit the right balance of being attentive but not hovering over the table, and I definitely appreciate that. We went last night and... honestly left super disappointed and won't be returning. We don't usually speak poorly of food places, but this didn't even meet basic expectations for what it should have been for food in terms of seasoning and portion expectations. (See below) TL;DR- Nice modern interior, faint nods to a hanok feel if you know what to look for friendly, but nearly all non-Asian staff Way Overpriced Some things I hear are good What we got- tiny portions, hard pass. Won't go back nor recommend. As Koreans, we were honestly excited to have another option in town. We went curious but unsure since the menu had mostly (to us) snack or street food for double average prices (gimbap, yubu/inari). We ordered the jungsik and a couple of appetizers- Dak Ganjung and a hand roll. Dak ganjung - tasted more like general Tso's American Chinese food than the Korean dish. I've had the original in Seokcho, and while I wasn't expecting it to match that, we were both saddened that it was far from it. Prob 50% breaded 50% chicken, which is too much. The myungran shrimp hand roll- sadly didn't really have roe in it. Myungran means fish roe but just a few specs present. It was Mayo and shrimp. Then there was the jung sik. they said it was portion for 2. It really was a tasters portion for 2 or lunch portion for 1. The worst part was- the wagyu was drenched in some marinade that was doused in salt! It was sooooooo salty I grimaced and spit it out! Also- why marinate wagyu? the meat had no marbeling, so definitely not high grade wagyu, and for $70 and 5 pieces, I'd expect higher grade. They still have to work out the table grilling thing bc a catering candle isn't enough to heat a cast iron grill (albeit a cute setup). It took 15-20 min to be hot enough to actually slightly brown the raw wagyu. With the portion sizes, we waited as long for the skillet to warm up as it took to eat everything we ordered (portion sizes were small). Also, jungsik - 정식 - means tradition meal. At basic, it should come with a soup, rice, a protein, and several like 10+ side dishes/banchan + multiple courses. It's a setting originally meant for a king or nobility. Their meal came with 6 small dishes of banchan, 1 protein and 2 rice (all to share for 2). No soup. When we inquired to our server (who is Korean, so understood it was a sore missing part), she brought us some chicken stock from the kitchen. For $70, tbh- imho, we should have at the very least gotten 2 sets of banchan and meat portions, and the meat should have been higher grade and honestly unseasoned. While the banchans were good (sans Dak ganjung), they were tiny portions. the thing I enjoyed was the sewoojang was good. (Banchan) - soy shrimp. When the manager came to ask for our feedback at the end, we did give her both honest highs and lows, but were were taken aback when her response began with, "well, I'm not Korean, so I don't know what Korean food is supposed to be like," we . Another off putting thing for us was that - with the exception of our server, a sweet ajumma who served us well, no one else was Korean. Our host had asked us if we wanted to sit at the sushi bar (which was setup as one). we asked if there was also sushi and not just gimbap, she asked me what gimbap was. In the end, the manager gave us a small discount for the wagyu bc we rinsed our meat pieces in water, "grilled" them for 10-15 min and ate the salty pieces, and we left to go eat fast food bc we were still hungry. I've done that after eating a Michelin star meal, but this was a far cry from that to go grab fast food afterward. It's a pretty interior, people seem nice, I like that they offer some dishes we don't have at other Korean restaurants in town, but it misses the mark by a lot, tbh. It was very overpriced and sadly not meeting even some basic seasoning sense ( ). I don't recommend the dishes we had. I've read a couple of other Asian food bloggers get other dishes and enjoy them, but they're not Korean. (The hubs of one is.) I get they're in a soft opening phase, but this is a franchise. You'd think they have a few basic things down? Anyways- those are our thoughts. We're sad bc we were excited to have a nice Korean option, however, eating Korean at home or w couple of trusted places if we don't want to cook, is a better time and $ investment. read more

Was flying solo with my 3yo and 4mos old tonight and was really craving Korean food. Found this place on a Google map search and thought I'd give it a try. They were accommodating for me and my littles... this was either going to be a disaster or great! I'm half Korean and half white. Grew up eating authentic Korean food so I had high expectations. At first glance, very nice ambiance and upscaled interior of the restaurant. You could tell by the way the servers were dressed too, they carry more upscale standards. My server seemed like she was new (didn't know if the restaurant had plastic ware for my son so he wouldn't bang the metal spoon/chopsticks on the table - which to my surprise she said they didn't have) and didn't seem to know much about the food I was ordering but she made up for it with her willingness to ask and find out. My son immediately asked for mandu (dumplings) which wasn't on the appetizer menu but was offered as a add-on to the tteokpoki (spicy rice cakes). They were accommodating and let me order them a la carte. They were fried and vegetarian (I believe they were stuffed with noodles and potato? *an all white filling). They were a little bland and boring but my son was happy. I also ordered the soy marinated eggs. Two soft boiled eggs that came on a bed of shaved scallions in a lightly sweetened soy broth sauce. Extremely mild... honestly I expected more flavor. Not gonna lie... got a little nervous about what the rest of the food I ordered was gonna be like... Ordered the OG kimbop... YAAAASSS!! Did not disappoint. Huge roll! Beautiful presentation (like what you'd see at a sushi restaurant). The rice was perfectly cooked. All the fillings were well balanced and on point with what you'd find in a traditional kimbop. I asked for banchan (sides) and they brought me cabbage & radish kimchi as well as two mayo dipping sauces. Both kimchis were on point! I also order the beef (short rib) bone soup (갈비탕). The presentation was wow... the two rib bones were massive (cut long). The broth has so much flavor. Packed with clear noodles, egg, and scallions. Came with a side of steamed rice. Originally chose to eat this restaurant because of its convenient location in downtown Round Rock but was so happy with my experience that I redownloaded Yelp just to write a review of it. The place is clean, modern, serving high quality Korean dishes. I tried the beef rib soup, bimbimbap, and classic kimbap, all of which were very good and I would absolutely order again. Jordan was very friendly and attentive, as well as knowledgeable about the menu and cuisine. 10/10 read more

Went to Ghama for the first time with a group of friends before the Wicked premier... and I was blown away. The atmosphere was so nice. It was later at night, 8:45PM, so there were not a ton of people there. It felt very personal and nice. The staff? INCREDIBLE. Our waiter explained the menu to us as none of us have been to a Korean restaurant before and did so beautifully-- nothing left to question. Ok, let me start by saying I'm not too knowledgeable on Korean Food, but I will say everything we tried was AMAZING! We had an awesome waitress, she was very patient and took her time in explaining the different items on the menu! We were so hungry, I didn't capture photos of all the foods, but what's below, is some of what we had. The restaurant had a very minimalistic feel to it and seemed very clean. Staff was friendly and even the manager came out to see if we were enjoying our meal, which was nice. If you visit, ask to sit in Mirayah's section.
