What a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect to find an authentic upscale Korean restaurant in RR. When I arrived I may have been only one of three people in the restaurant. Fast forward the service and food was outstanding. By the time I left I was perhaps one of six or so non Koreans in the restaurant. It was bustling and thus the 'crowd' and the quality of the food was truly a testament to how good this place is. Great weekday lunch specials ranging from $13-$15 that come with soup or salad. I ordered the bulgogi bowl which came with a generous serving of ribeye meat over rice & glass noodles mixture with vegetables and white sauce. The meat was marinated well and flavorful, veggies were fresh, and the noodles were delightful. Ghana Zone is a cozy and inviting Korean restaurant. I ordered the Vegan Kimbap and Avocado Tofu Pocket, and both were absolutely delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I was tempted to try the Tteokbokki and Bibimbap too, but wasn't sure if they were vegetarian, and the staff didn't seem sure either. Two visits here and I can't wait to go back. Since we usually stick to jiggaes and meats, the mala rose tteokbokki was surprisingly our favorite. We added 2 packs of ramen and cheese on top. The options for pork and beef bulgogi are nice. The truffle potato pancakes were also a surprise great dish. Bibimbap and banchan were done well! Came here to get lunch with the guys in the weekend. It was pretty packed but lucky my friends already got a table. The restaurant itself is a bit small but located in the downtown RR area. So you can walk around afterwards. We ordered several dishes to try. The chicken wings was meh. Not crispy enough but well cook. The seafood pancake is really good but not traditional. It was also very greasy. The beef rib soup was good but don't expect beefy-ness in the soup. Prices are a bit expensive. A bit more expensive than traditional Korean restaurant. 4/5 The one thing that I would complain about is the service. I get that they are busy, but one of my friends wanted to order an entree because he forgot. The waitress said she will come back but after like 15mins. Then she forget to get his order again. So he given up on ordering. They also mess up our check with some other table. They took away my water away when I was still there talking. 2/5....and the standard tip is 20/22/25%. I was super hopeful at the price point of the menu, that the food was going to be good. Instead the video blogger that first shared about this place over hyper this place and left me disappointed about their super enthusiastic review of this restaurant. As other ppl have stated Korean food is hard to come by in Central Texas and this place seemed like a possible option. We got the dduck gochi app, one makguksu and one dak galbi. The makguksu was pretty standard and the closest to authentic of the three dishes we ordered. The app was ok, a little sweet n spicy, but most importantly came out hot. The dak galbi most certainly was not dak galbi but closer in my opinion a hybrid of tteokbokki sauce, with dak jjim chicken. Not a welcome interpretation on this beloved dish. I will say for the price we paid will definitely not be back or recommend this to anyone looking for good korean food. Service was so/so not good but not bad, the side dishes were tiny and stale, we asked for a refill the server forgot asked again and we finally got it, did not get a refill on our drinks. The restaurant was not busy, but service is definitely not where they excel...im sad to say this was a bit of a let down. The interior looks like this might have been a bar or some other popular downtown Round Rock staple before this came in. I will say downtown looked nice I may visit the area again in the future. Yum! This is located in downtown Round Rock! There is plenty of street parking along the street and some garages nearby. The inside of this restaurant has a nice luxurious looking aesthetic! The service was great. We tried the Kimbap, boneless chicken wings, and the little pockets. We ordered the pockets wrapped in tofu and they were sooo good, I've never had anything like it before. I came on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch with my best friend and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't super packed and that the staff sat right away. I've been really looking for better Korean options in or around Austin for some time. I come from Killeen, which isn't too far away but has more Korean food options due to the large military population that resides in the area. Once we sat, we looked over the menu to see what was different from most of the Korean restaurants in Austin, and I liked that this menu is so diverse and vast compared to other Korean menu options. They have jjim, tofu/seaweed pockets, and kim bop of different varieties. My friend and I ordered some Kim Bop, tofu pockets, and Beef rib soup to share. I'd say if we came back, we would get the Beef rib soup and the tofu pockets again. I felt the kimbap was a bit lacking in the overall combination of flavor depth I usually experience from K-bop (a Kim Bop restaurant located on Guadalupe). The service was attentive and friendly but didn't give us much indication of the beef rib soup since the waiter hadn't tried it and was unwilling to spend the money on an employee meal to try it. My only complaint is that the soup didn't come with Banchan so I can't attest for any of those items. It's a great spot to check out in downtown Round Rock, and I'm really satisfied that good Korean food has finally made its way out to the surrounding areas of Austin! read more

Tried for lunch and returned following week for dinner. For Lunch... 4 pocket lunch combo ($18) was a good size. It came with kim chi and radish as the banchan and light soup. I loved all my topping choices, crab all in, seafood mix. Their bulgolgi could've been more meat to rice portion but the flavor was good. The Myungran could've used more roe but I didn't mind. Shrimp and Shishito Pepper Skewers ($2-3 each) were perfectly panko fried; not oily. Hot and crispy. For Dinner... Ghama Jungsik ($70) was a nice variety. It also came with a light soup, one bowl of rice and the two daikon and kim chi banchans. The house sides of came first while they heated the grill. Apparently, they told me they up the sides from 6 to 9 dishes. The steak was a bit thin, so it didn't take much at all to cook but I wish it was q thicker juicier streak to go with the nice show! It came on a bed of nice scallion with soy and sesame oil. We ate everything. Only con was a bit overbearing flavor of truffle oil on the bulgolgi and gamjaechae, which we have this feedback in the end. Both times servers were great and knew about the food and were humble enough to ask for feedback after both my meals, which we gave. New Korean spot in downtown Round Rock! I had the carbonara tteokbokki, which sounded like a good idea at first but it was not (plain alfredo sauce with bits of pork). My table also ordered the army stew, which was such a small portion for $20 and noodles were an extra charge. There were a few side dishes served (ban chan) - kimchi and radishes. Service was good. There is free street parking and also a parking garage nearby. I prefer Korean cuisine over Korean fusion so unfortunately this didn't hit the spot. Starting with the location, it is in a prime spot in downtown Round Rock, which is so nice to stroll around the area after eating. This location has been so many different businesses over the years. I see this location has changed names and concepts within the past years. Change is always a constant, and this time, it was a change to improve. Ot looks really nice inside. The service is definitely great. Our waiter, Jordan, was very informative and knowledgeable about the menu and made good recommendations. We had Dak-Gangjung, which are the boneless wings for appetizer and the Army base stew. All was served with a side of kimchi, very good flavors and perfect spiciness, in my opinion. I need to come back and try new items and also become more knowledgeable about the menu items I can get. I made the mistake of getting my stew with noodles, which made it more like a Ramen soup. However, this absorbed the juices of the stew, and then I ended up with a lot of noodles that I couldn't eat nor take with me. When I saw "stew" in the name, I thought it was a think broth, but it was a more liquidy soup like Ramen. Again, this was on me for not knowing well. But this is why I try to look at pictures from people who have tried dishes to have an idea of the size and heaviness of the food. I know Ghama Zone isn't technically in Austin, but it's definitely my favorite restaurant in the area. My friend and I visited after some raving reviews from other friends, and wow. It's absolutely worth those stellar opinions. Our waiter (shoutout Isiah) was SO nice and friendly, and he gave us such a good introduction and rundown of the menu. He recommended the rose teokkbokki and short rib. My friend and I also got a tofu pocket to share. Ghama Zone also has some banchan like radish and kimchi, both of which are actually really good. If you like more fermented kimchi, their kimchi is bomb. The teokbokki came out really fast, and I loved it. The rice cakes were perfectly cooked, and I love that instead of fish cake, it had bacon instead. I definitely recommend eating kimchi with the rice cakes because it can get really heavy. The sauce is delectable, and I'm just such a big fan of rose sauce. I don't think there's another restaurant in Austin that has rose teokbokki, so it hit a craving I've been having for a long time. The seafood tofu pocket was delicious. It tastes a little bit like a piece of sushi or kimbap, and it's filled to the brim. The star of the show is definitely the short rib. Wow. My friend and I were exclaiming over this dish the entire night. The meat was so fatty and soft, and the presentation was STUNNING. I loved the little green onion salad it came with, and we just couldn't get over how delicious this entree was. We would order it every time we come here. The other reviews say that Ghama Zone is expensive, but honestly, almost all Korean places are expensive. For their quality and service, I don't mind at all. I was really excited to try this place because I've heard great things. It is pretty small but we didn't have to wait long. If you do go in a big group, you'll be split up by fours. We ended up splitting the tteokbokki and kimbap. The tteokbokki was yummy and Kimbap was delicious. I got spicy pork tofu pocket and that was yummy! This is definitely one of the better Korean restaurants in the Austin area. However, it's expensive and the portions are on the smaller side. The staff were super friendly. Wanted to check this place out since they had Galbi jiim on the menu and that's been a hard dish to track down in Austin. Came in for dinner with the family. Cool spot in downtown Round Rock. We ordered: Seafood pancake Galbi jiim Pork bulgogi Dak galbi The seafood pancake came out first and was REALLY good. Super crispy and the right ratio of batter to seafood. A nice start. The galbi jiim was really solid, especially for the the area. The menu says it's for 2 people but we were a party of 5 and it was plenty for all of us. The short rib was cooked well and the sauce was tasty. The potato slices were a tad under and I wish it came with more "stuff" (back in my California days it would come with tons of potatoes, rice cakes, etc). I'd order it again though, and try the spicy version. The pork bulgogi was pretty average. It came with a small bowl of lettuce leaves and truffle aioli for dipping...I presume to make some sort of wrap? Never seen it served like this but it was interesting. It was a little bland for me and I probably would skip this next time. Dak galbi was solid. Good sized chunks of chicken cooked well, generous amount of onion garnish. I wouldn't be mad if someone wanted to try this again but I would probably try other stuff first personally. Other things thoughts: Staff was really friendly and efficient. The banchan was really disappointing though. There were only 4 (kim chi, radish, fish cake, and mac salad) and they came in these tiny little dishes. Of course it's banchan and you can always ask for more (which again the staff were more than happy to grab for you) but I would have enjoyed more variety and slightly larger portions so we didn't have to bug the staff so often. The last thing of note was that three of us ordered soft drinks. We all asked for a refill. When my check came, I was charged for 6 drinks, so I guess refills aren't free? Which is fine but I dunno, felt a little...nickel and diming when I was already paying like $150 for dinner. It also wasn't advertised on the menu as such. Overall I'd come back to try the spicy galbi jiim and other stuff like the tofu pockets and bossam which are fairly hard to find here. If you're curious I'd say it's worth checking out at least once. read more

Everything tasted so heavenly!! The short rib steak was to die for. Just the perfect flavoring of savory and sweet. Meat was tender enough and I love that some parts were fatty. The stir fried chicken was okay and kind of lacked flavor. The gaejang was like eating red pepper since the sauce was so overpowering since and there was barely any crab. Would not pay $3-5 per skewer, lastly the hotteok ice cream which I heard sells out was not even hotteok, it was a store bought stale, room temperature pancake with no filling and the lowest quality vanilla ice cream on top. Fried shrimp skewers: Nothing special Tteokbokki: DO NOT get me started on this. I requested to add glass noodles to it which they did. They brought out the tteokbokki and took it back saying something was wrong and brought it back again. Anyway, our tteokbokki has NO FISH CAKES! Like what!? It was also not an add on option. It was quite underwhelming. The service was fast. The staff were courteous but I did not care for the food AT ALL. There are far better Korean restaurants in Austin with better food, less fuss, and FISH CAKES in tteokbokki and banchans on the table. Not worth the time or money imo. What a gem of a restaurant! This was our first time here so we ordered the $70 entree which comes with 9 mini entrees and a full entree sized bulgogi. It also included rice, soup, and side dishes. It was a massive amount of food and very delicious. The only two things we didn't like were the cold jellied shrimp and crab. I'm a huge seafood aficionado but those were too weird even for me. The service was also great and the ambience was lovely.
