I'm not a frequent reviewer, but I'll put in the time if I think it can help someone, and Ghassem's definitely is getting me off the couch. With all these great reviews, they're doing something right, but I feel a need to share a warning. HERE'S THE SHORT VERSION: For routine maintenance and repairs that you know need to be done, they are probably fine. But if you need a diagnosis of an unknown problem, I'm guessing they've gotten lazy. NOW THE LONG VERSION: I've only gone to them once... my car was stalling and Abbey suggested replacing the mass airflow sensor for $280 for the OEM part and $400 in labor. That is a ridiculous price, especially for the labor. The MAF is a pretty common problem and the first thing anyone should try is to just clean it with an $8 spray cleaner. I asked him about cleaning it and he said it wasn't possible. I did it in 10 minutes. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he knew cleaning wouldn't work (and it didn't). So as he suggested, I replaced it... in 10 more minutes, with a screwdriver. It didn't work either but the point is that it's a super easy job and he quoted $400 in labor. It's not even in the realm of reasonableness. When I plugged in my $20 OBD scanner (which reads the car's computer), lo and behold the 2 issues it put out were the exact 2 things he said I should replace... in other words, my guess is they did no thinking on their own, they just wanted to replace what the computer said, which is not necessarily the answer. I get that it can be more efficient for mechanics to just replace a part, but I can't make sense of why he quoted so much in labor. Best case scenario is he wasn't familiar with my car (after 30 years experience) which is sad for such a basic repair... worst case is, well, I don't wanna say. I can see why people say he's a super nice guy, and I'm sure he is, but just like with a doctor, try to get a second opinion or do a little research, especially when they say "you should replace it". I don't blame mechanics for doing what's easiest because troubleshooting a problem and being cost-efficient for the owner takes A LOT of time, but that means you have to watch out for yourself, even if they have a great smile and a charming demeanor. 1/21/14 UPDATE: I replaced the distributor cap and rotor by myself for $40 and problem solved. Ghassem's strong recommendation would've been over $900, most of it for labor, on REALLY easy jobs, that wouldn't have even solved the problem. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about a misdiagnosis, I know it's hard work. It's more that they didn't seem to think about other possibilities. I kinda feel it's like a doctor simply googling your symptoms and saying you need surgery without considering easier options... and on top of that, charging you way way way more than the going rate. Ghassem was outstanding. I dropped my car off (without an appointment) and before I even made it to the garage he came out to greet me. I explained my issue (car making squeaking and knocking noises) and that I thought it may be related to the brakes recently being changed. My car was checked in within minutes of my arrival. For the record, I am a girl and was there by myself and never felt ignored or condescended to, as the other review states. Perhaps that was a one off. What really blew me away was the prompt check in, timely repair, honest work, and beyond fair pricing. I have never had a car checked in for service for this cheap, let alone including labor. I expected it to be a few hundred dollars, but it was less than $50! And ready within hours. I will not go anywhere else because I found a mechanic I can trust to do good and honest work! read more

I have to thank my fellow Yelpers for turning my on to this place. I have had a hard time finding a good mechanic (as you'll see if you look at my other reviews) and I think that this might be the one! I have a problem car - it seems something new goes wrong with it every couple of weeks. Luckily, so far it's been stuff that has been easily fixed (knock on wood), but I was very concerned this past Sunday when my car suddenly wouldn't shift out of park. I called Ghassem's after seeing the reviews on Yelp and was told to bring it right over. The guy was able to manually get it out of park and into nuetral so that he could look at it and said that he thought it might be the brake switch. I mentioned that my brake light on my dashboard had been on for a couple of weeks, so he checked my brake fluid and saw that it was low. He just went ahead and filled it and didn't charge me anything! I left the car with them and a while later he called me and said that the car was working now, so they couldn't tell what it was that was causing the problem and didn't want to charge me or fix the wrong part. I'm only giving 4 stars right now because they didn't actually fix my car - but the fact that they were honest and want to fix the part that's actually WRONG instead of just charging me anyway or replacing an unnecessary part is SUCH a big difference from my recent experiences elsewhere that he has earned my return business. read more

Best auto repair shop in town!! My cls63 AMG clunking sound from engine, I went to another shop and they told it would be a $2400 repair. I went abbey at Ghassems auto and the fixed my car for $500 bucks!! Hands down a life saver. Thank you for all your help abbey! read more

Radiator sucked and the engine was over heating. Balls!!!! These guys helped me get a new radiator in one day. Took about 4 hours but I walked home and grabbed a couple of cold ones after that hot walk. They called me when it was ready. The price was what it was. $116 for the radiator, $195 for labor. It sucked to pay but I don't look like an idiot with smoke coming out of my car driving down the street. Good job Ghassem. read more

They have replaced the timing belt on my Honda Odyssey, they diagnosed a leak and replaced belts, gaskets, motor mounts, and serviced brakes for my Buick Century, and they implemented a variety of fixes on my Volvo s40. Abby (sp?) was absolutely fantastic! I brought in my car when the engine sounded louder than usual. I was given an accurate time estimate (1-2 hours; I arrived just as the team had left for lunch, so it took a bit), and upon my return I was given an honest account of what's up with my car and several options as to how to deal with it. In the end I decided to wait before treating the issue, and I wasn't even charged for the time they spent looking at my car! I couldn't have asked for better service. read more

I finally got a new car so I fell victim to feeling like I had to go into the dealership to get work done...welllllllllllllll the dealership shop seriously damaged my car so after that I went right back to Ghassems! I got a flat tire not far from this place and wanted something that could get done fast for cheap. I looked up "tire repair" on Yelp and this placed popped up. Immediately, I called and asked about a flat tire. He told me that he could do it in 15 minutes for $18. I went in and true to his word he fixed it in no time whatsoever. Once again Ghassem's proved why they are worth going back to. Cracked radiator suddenly got worse needing immediate replacement. Called and was told they could replace it that day. Got there and recalled I was overdue for timing belt, which the dealer had estimated about $1000+ for. They changed the timing belt, water pump, thermostat and housing, and installed the new radiator I already had, for an unmentionably lower price than a dealer charges. When I arrived to pick it up, they had the replaced parts neatly laid out and went over them with me. I keep giving them the business, and they have continued to earn it, over and over - thank you guys! read more

My other car had a slow leak on the driver's side rear tire. I also had family coming in from out of town within a few hours and couldn't take a chance on getting a new tire since it might take a while. So I went back to my new (favorite) mechanic. Despite having a car in every bay with a few more waiting to get work done, Ghassem rolled out a jack, took the tire off, we found the problem (a nail with no head) and he took care of it right away. I'd say I was in and out within 20 minutes tops, less than $20.00 and no longer having to worry about the tire. Thanks again guys....you're the best!! read more

Ghassem's is very close, walking distance from my house - I wanted this to be as good as the yelp reviews I read. My experience was much lower than the rankings I read on yelp. They were late in calling me for updates and work completed as promised - this happens. But I was losing oil faster than I should be on my BMW X3 - I took it here for examination - they just changed the oil said all was ok. The oli dropped faster than it should - they did an engine clean and service repair - refilled my oil - told me done. I continued to experience oil loss - took the car to Signal Hill Foreign Auto Service - Leo knew right away the issue - common on BMW cars of this time. Fixed it - done. I would not recommend Ghassem going forward. I do like Signal Hill Foreign Auto Service. read more

Once again Abbey saved the day...... If you want honest dependable service, this is the place to go. I have been coming here for years, and have yet to be disappointed. My engine light was on, and had to get a smog. Brought my car here, Abbey diagnosed the problem, and off I drove. Unfortunately, they no longer Smog cars, but at least they find the problem fix it. I never have felt like they have taken advantage of because, I am a woman. It's true, if it ain't broke, they will let you know. I thought I might need brakes, and all I needed was some brake fluid. Made for an overall excellent experience! I went in for an oil change and Abbey brought up the "noise" that my car was making (that I had been ignoring forever because I knew it would be expensive) and mentioned what he thought it might be. He offered to give me a quote but didn't pressure me into getting it done. Of course I ended up bringing it back to him to get it fixed. This place is really helpful and makes sure you are %100 satisfied with their service. I had to get my rear differential replaced and they went above and beyond to make sure my car was fully repaired. The job was a good deal for the price considering it is an expensive job to replace the rear differential, but overall I am glad I went here. Will go here again for future maintenance for my car. read more

We are vacationing from out of town and ran into some car troubles. We checked on Yelp for the best auto mechanic and we found him! We called Ghassems at 11:30am and were back on the road by 5pm. Another awesome experience at Ghassem's. My 2017 KIA Sorrento has had the check engine light on since the end of November. I took it in to the dealership 3 times and it was still coming back on by the next morning. The dealership kept trying to give me the run around so I took it to Ghassem's to have them run a diagnostic and within 20 min Nick called me and found that the engine was running too rich. After receiving the report I showed KIA and they immediately offered me a rental car and are still working on the issue with corporate involved. Ghassem is Awesome!!! I live in the neighborhood and have been bringing all my vehicles here for repairs and service for about 15 years now. Honest, fairly priced, prompt, friendly service experiences. Ghassem and Abbey always politely greet me when I arrive early to drop off my vehicle. They listen intently to my requirements and promptly get back with me on any diagnostics and estimated costs. After I leave my vehicle there, I can walk home, take the local bus somewhere in LB, or walk to a number of convenient stores in the area to do shopping. Although I have been there only twice. The first for brake service and second for battery replacement. No doubt the manager( and am not sure if he is the owner too) is friendly and explains the problem in an easier language. Though he did not remember that they had done the brakes just 2 weeks back when i went for battery replqcement, but that is alright considering the number of cars and customer he must be having to deal with. The mechanic did remember the car though. I sometimes still do feel that the brakes are not done perfectly, but maybe its just me. the second time i went for my battery replacement, I mentioned about it and he said that it probably must be something else. the problem is random and so I am not able to show him exactly what the problem is. And so I understand his point, that he will have to check everything. And that is why the 3 stars Quote is fair and honest. I have not dealt with many mechanics, but so far these guys seem to be reasonable for certain things. For work like oil change I still go to EZ but for works I will be continuing here for a while read more
