Decently priced large, 2 topping pizza for $17. Dough was nice and crispy outside and chewy inside. Sauce was zesty without being overly sweet, toppings were nicely proportioned to the pie. All and all, I'd return. It doesn't compare to the pizza place from my hometown in upstate NY, but it can beat the cravings lol. read more

I've been very absent from writing reviews on Yelp, primarily because of laziness, and while I heard discussion of Yelp on 'Squawk on the Street' one morning recently, regarding how all the reviews are good, I can say that this one will not be. Having just admitted that I don't Yelp like I should, coupled with the fact that this was a place that we were heretofore excited about, I'm here to write a very bad review. It is prudent to note to you, that this place does not deliver and that we went out of our way, to the tune of a 20-30 minute round trip to pick these pizzas up--yeah, we thought they were that good. Our issues not only exhibit bad product, but absolutely poor customer service. We ordered two large pizzas, both with light cheese -- one pizza was supposed to be split with pepperoni and olives on one half and mushrooms on the other half, and the other pizza was a Godfather pizza. Upon arrival, mentioning our order, they (jokingly) said "yeh, the complicated pizza," when going through our order. Blindly accepting what we had given, we drove back home to find a number of problems with our pizzas, the most egregious problem being that the mushrooms were completely missing from the one half of the split pizza, yielding a plain cheese pizza (and far from being light on the cheese, as we had requested). This, in itself, is not reason enough to bring about a 'federal case,' but what ensues does. The toppings on the Godfather pizza exhibited clumping, such that the pepperoni was overlaid 4-5 pieces dense in places, and non-existent others. On the pepperoni/black olive side, it literally appeared like someone grabbed a handful of black olives and threw it on the pizza in a very close proximity without any care to distribute it at all. After about an hour from pickup, consumption, and stewing about it, I called Gianni's and spoke with the younger of the two gentlemen from behind the counter. About halfway through my complaint, he abruptly said "hold on" and I was placed on the phone with the older gentleman. After I elucidated my complaints, he said "we'll try to do better next time," and, completely shocked, I said "thank you" and hung up. After some discussion with my wife, she decided to call back and confront them on this issue. She started out, like I did, with the younger gentleman, to only be handled off to the older one. As she started over, as I had to, she essentially stated that his statement of doing better next time was not acceptable. (After all, this assumes that there will be a "next time".) As my wife spoke about the poor construction, and lack of care about the pizzas, she said that she expected a refund. The older gentleman told her to bring the pizzas back and ... most shockingly ... to "go somewhere else next time." I will clarify here, that both of us spoke clearly, professionally, and without profanity during these conversations, so the indifference we received was not warranted. As such, here we are with this review. We've had very good pizza from Gianni's the first time, and pretty good pizza the second time, but today wasn't their day, and they had little-to-no interest in making it right in any way, or even attempting to retain customers. As such, given that their product can be a pretty good approximation of NY styled pizza, if you go there, be sure and check your pies prior to leaving, otherwise expect no interest from Gianni's, after the fact, in your satisfaction. As a matter of fact, you may just be told to go elsewhere, too! read more

I just had two sandwiches at Expressway Pit Beef and yet I still wanted to eat a bit more (Expressway sandwiches are not small). Thus I stopped by to get a slice at Gianni's on my way home. My taste buds appreciated it but my dong bae (belly) didn't. I was pretty full yet the cheese slice was still tasty. I especially liked their crust which is crispy and has a hint of sweetness that was quite unique. They only have two pizza by the slice options: cheese and pepperoni. Cheese costs $2 and pepperoni $2.25. This pizza is definitely in contention for my favorite pie in the area. read more

I have yet to find anybody who makes pizza like Gianni's. They are the best of the humongo, greasy pizza-by-the-slice joints. Locally, at least. It's your typical undiscovered treasure in your respective neighborhood, but seriously...to have something like this in the Severn/Odenton area of AA County is just delightful, cuz--let's be honest--there's really not much around these parts (outside of the craziness of the mall). The pizza slices are HUGE, and the staff is so cool =) I can't comment on anything else other than the pizza...that's all I've ever wanted from them! Pizza is a very personal thing. I know this yet I'm always surprised when I see a horrible review for a place like this one. I grew up in NJ, 15 minutes from NYC and like most folks from the area I'm a pizza snob. Just because some pizza does not taste like the pizza where I grew up does not mean it's without merit. Case in point, I don't care for pan pizza but in some parts of the country it's wildly popular.... Gianni's pizza however tastes like the pizza I grew up eating, more so than any other pizza joint in the area. Basically, it's as close as I've come to NJ/NY style pizza in MD. It may not be your thing but those who have called it bland and tasteless would most certainly find most pizza up north (and yes folks we are know for our stellar pizza) offensive. For those of you who are looking for your pizza to be neat and the toppings to be "evenly distributed" as I read in one review, please do not set foot in my home state or any of the surrounding areas. We don't subscribe to the school of OCD pizza making. Their pizza is pretty darned good and I will go back. No 5 stars though because that would imply it's as good as it gets. If you've ever had coal-fired pizza from Di Fara, Motorino, Grimaldi's or one of the countless other amazing pizza joints up north, you would know that that is as good as it gets! read more

It's decent! Cheap and huge pizza that tastes better than any other pizza in the area. They don't really have much competition but still they are the best in the area. Don't be afraid to try the calzones. 1 will feed 2 people and they are super tasty and stuffed with mozzarella. 1 medium pizza will feed a family of 4. A large pizza is almost enough for 2 meals. I swear we get a pizza 2-3 times a week from these guys! Every time it's so delicious! The owners/workers are fantastic. They're not your typical. They are real people and they like to joke and tease. I love how personal they are. They remember us every time we come in. :) The pizza itself is amazing. We normally get 1 large 1/2 mushroom 1/2 sausage. The hubby and I can blow through this size in no time! That's how good it is! Always hot, always fresh, always filling! We used to always order Pizza Hut, but since discovering Gianni's, it's worth the trip (since they don't deliver). We even sit in the pizzeria and wait for it to cook so it's at its freshest! I've only ever ordered individual slices here, and they are tasty. The slices are huge, and you have a choice between pepperoni or cheese (you have more options if you want a whole pizza). The sauce is what makes this pizza - it's sweet and not too overwhelming. The pizza is also not incredibly greasy, which is nice on the stomach. The price per slice is ~$2.25, so that's nice on the wallet. I actually prefer their cheese over the pepperoni, which is a first, because usually I like it the other way around. The service is great. The guy at the counter is always respectful and friendly. The pizzas come out very quickly, too. The place is tucked away in a little strip mall with plenty of tables to sit and ample parking. I ordered a "Warrior Roll," which does not appear on the regular menu, but I swear, it does exist. It's a stromboli/Calzone type of thing, with a lot of cheese, peperoni, and sausage. I only ate half. (That being said, I rarely eat more than two or three pieces of pizza at a time.) It took a few minutes to make (10), and I was warned there was a wait for this particular order. It came out piping hot, I drove back to the office, and ate it there. It was good. It had the traditional greasy pizza feel and taste. The guy taking orders was good, everything seemed to be made to order (as is normal in a pizza shop), except for a small selection of slices. Their menu up top seems incomplete, but it appears to be a place where you have to be "in the know" to know what all they have. I have been told a number of times that the cannolis are amazing, and should be tried. I did not try one, but I did see one, and it looks fantastic. When I go back (and I will, when it is time for me to splurge for pizza during lunch again), I'll likely pick up a cannoli while I'm there. I went on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered a Italian cold cut sandwhich, the gentleman was older, slim and had a mustache. I watched him handle money with the previous 2 customers before it was my turn. Once I ordered my sub I watched him make it without washing hands not even a squirt of hand sanitizer :-/ I pulled the gentleman to the side explained to him what witnessed and he asked me if I wanted the sub.. I went here for lunch a couple of days ago. The pizza is pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised. Out of this world good like the pizza I used to get from a little italian guy in Germany? No. But rather good none-the-less. I do recommend calling your order in ahead of time at lunch if you plan to get a whole pizza. Our order didn't take too long, but I think that's because we beat the lunch rush by a few minutes. ##Excellent Food ## The NY pepperoni pizza here is delicious! Very large slices with thin crust. One was enough for me and I usually eat 3 slices from Papa John, they are that big. It does not taste like commercial pizza (Papa Johns/ Pizza Hut etc...) and is definitely a style of pizza to try. I was moaning the pizza was so good. Actually my mouth is watering just typing about it! Calzones are also yummy, the lasagna is ok. Chocolate cannolis is also a must! Gianni's is a small little carry out joint that has few tables for dine in (probably for those who can't wait to go home and eat their awesome pizza). It is usually crowded during meal times so call ahead if you want whole pizza. Try the Godfather pizza (pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, onion, and mushroom) I get mine without mushrooms... they put too much on it. They also sell beers too so it can be one-stop shop. This pizza is disgusting!!! I don't know people rating it at 5 stars for. We ate, this is our 4th time trying since 2004 and I realize why....though we are less than a mile away. I ordered a godfathers and larger pepperoni. The kids ate the pepperoni but everyone said The Godfather's was disgusting. We ordered 2 gyros that were lacking on meat and overpowered with sauce, a meatball sub that was just OK, 1 antipasto salad where the meat was just thrown on top, no cheese; Cesar salad and Greek salad. The dressing for the Greek and Antipasto salad was nothing but oil....no flavor at all. I spent near $100 and was completely disappointed. A really nice unaffiliated pizza place. Being from NYC, I have a deep affinity for the small pizza shops that were on every other corner in Queens, NY. I found this place on a lunch break, and I'm always willing to try new pizza. They have a great lunch deal, and the two slices you get are hot and bubbly, and delicious. The pizza is so good I decided to drive over last Friday and order a couple of pies, to help support them. I ordered the medium pizza's one veggie, one half cheese, other half meatball. The whole pies were a bit of disappointment. The dough was too thick, chewy rather than crispy. I get the feeling the stores use the same amount of dough, regardless of size of the pie. They stretch out the pizza on the 16" so the crust is thinner and crisps up nicely. That same amount of dough on a 14" pizza results in a thicker chewier crust much like the pizza's from Wegman's. Overall the quality is really good, my next visit I'll try the larger size, fingers crossed read more

We were looking for good pizza and found it. We could have gone to the hut of pizza in front of this small strip mall shop but we like local, over chains whenever possible.We ordered a large meat lovers and sat down to wait at one of about 8 tables. The wait wasn't long (15 min?) before our pizza was called out. I would call it New York style pizza but I'm not really an expert. There were plenty of toppings and seasoning to make adding any of the available additional seasoning unnecessary but after the first few bites I cannot help myself. I am glad I tried out Gianni's and would eat there or order takeout from there again. I am looking forward to the leftovers now. read more
