We were staying uphill at Lake Alpine and had tried to get a decent meal at the lodge the previous day but it took forever to get served so we decided to drive down to Arnold for lunch. I've been coming to giant burger since I was a kid. I have tons of childhood memories traveling to big trees and stopping here on the way back. Today was my first time in years stopping here and it wasn't what I remembered it to be. The burger was pretty good but I've definitely had better especially when you take into account the price. My burger was about $9 with bacon and cheese and although I ordered a double patty burger, I expected a lot more for that price. There's really nothing giant about their burgers. The fries were stale and cold as well and I'm a huge fan of potatoes so that really killed it for me. All in all I think I may check yelp before going back up there and maybe find a new place to stop at when we travel to the snow. read more

Poor experience. They were out of lettuce! I know it sounds like a non issue but I'm doing the keto diet and was hoping to have either a lettuce wrapped burger or a salad but was unable to have either. The prices are also very high for such poor quality food. The food also took over an hour, yes over an hour to come out. I don't understand why it takes so long to cook a simple burger and chicken. Super disappointed since this place used to be awesome when I came as a kid every summer. Once you have been to the 88 Giant Burger in Pine Grove nothing compares... so far. This place has location that's for sure and it appears to have a loyal following but the order of fries was small and the burger was very plane. I was given two small containers of ketchup and that was it. Even my biker buddy commented on the 88 Giant Burger was much better. I guess this is as good as it gets in these here parts so have at it if you must. read more

Went here after a great day at Big Trees with family and friends. When our group arrived the girl at the register said "oh great, all these people." Our group of about fifteen people still ordered, spending about $160 for mediocre food and the worst service ever. The red head taking orders was so rude, some of us had to walk away from her. She wouldn't take orders for milk shakes, even from an 8 year old. When our orders were up, she yelled the order numbers extremely loud with a obnoxious attitude. If the owner knew she refused to sell milkshakes and treats people in the manner she does, would she be fired? She should be. Will never go back and I will tell all of my family and friends that live near by to NEVER go to this business. read more

I came here with the family and had a good experience for the most part. Burger was pretty darn good. Not gourmet, but good. It's pretty much what you would expect from a roadside burger place - burgers are decent, chili is mass produced, but hot and reasonably tasty, fries and onion rings are decent, milk shakes are made with soft serve - not my favorite, but they do have dipped cones! Went here for lunch, as we've loved to for years, and honestly, we were fairly disappointed. Not sure if they're under new managment, or just cycling through a new group of employees like they seem to do every 6 months or so. But their burgers aren't even close to what they used to be. Completely cooked differently, different buns, just a different flavor all around. And when you make a cheeseburger, put the cheese on while the burger is still in the grill! Don't slap on a cold piece of cheese just before wrapping up the burger. And the giant burger is definitely smaller than it used to be. They went from the best burger in the county, to one not worth a second try. BLT's were more like "BT's" almost completely lacking lettuce. Fries are still good. Stay away from the coffee shake - not really good at all. And customer service isn't something they particularly shine at, but then again, that seems to be a lost art with alot of places these days. Great shakes!! Lots of flavors! The burgers look great but we weren't hungry enough so we enjoyed the shakes.

My husband and 8-yr old son and I stopped in to Giant Burger about 6 pm last Friday night on our way to our friend's cabin. There were 5 young families like ours there; I said it must be "Family Friday". The place was clean, which is something that really matters to me, except the paper towels were out in the bathroom. But the staff replaced them when I called it to their attention. The food was tasty and the lettuce and tomato were fresh - I'd say the burger and fries rival Ford's Hamburgers here in Sacramento, for those of you who know that place. But this place is cheaper than Ford's. Also, Giant Burger uses this really thick incredible bacon on their bacon burgers that I loved. The next day my son had to go back for another chocolate milk shake. We'll be going back again the next time we're in Arnold. My only advice is to bring your appetite. read more

Brought some friends there for lunch today and couldn't believe how bad the service was. We waited in line to order, and it took 40 min. to get our order. Unacceptable! Our family just left the mountain last week after a week's stay in Blue Late Springs. The highlight of our vacation wasn't the pool, hikes, bbq's....the kids, by far, voted for Giant Burger! How about this? Butterscotch Milkshake and Onion Rings to die for. I had no problem finishing the delicious burger, either. It was refreshing to eat in a clean, well-kept burger stop. The owner happened to be working when we were there and she added such a personalized touch to our visit.....I think the kids enjoyed hearing about all the different flavor options =) We'll definitely be back....might try breakfast next time. read more

Maybe it's the clean fresh piney air that makes the food taste so good...it doesn't matter. This place makes a great hamburger fries and shake. Meh. That's my exact feeling about this place. The burgers are okay, the fries are okay, the onion rings are okay. I would have rated this place higher, however the bbq chicken sandwich I ordered was atrocious. I have an issue with sloppy sandwiches and burgers. Some people call it OCD, I like to say I'm particular. My point is, I opened up this sandwich to do a little rearranging (even distribution and what not) and found that I had half a strip of bacon and that was it. I was a little irked by it. But I let it go. The issue came when I went to bite into it and the chicken breast was so rubbery and dry I had to tear at it like an animal. It was as though it had sat under a heat lamp for a week before someone thought, "Don't throw it away, its still good. Just throw some BBQ on that thing, they won't know the difference!" My brother thought I was exaggerating and so he decided to brave the burger himself. A couple of chews later he spit it back out saying it tasted like a bbq'd tire. Admitting defeat, I ate my half strip of bacon and we ended up going elsewhere so I could get something to eat. read more

We've been coming to Great Burger for years with our family, and while it is pricey we always enjoyed eating there. Tonight was not that case though. All we ordered were fries and shakes and it took AN HOUR to get us our shakes. Our fries were cold by then! When we asked where they were, it had turned out new receipts were put on top of the old ones so ours had been pushed the bottom. Everybody behind us received their food before we did. On top of that, when we went to ask what was up we had the workers laugh at us, make snide remarks behind our backs, and ultimately give us the wrong order! The worse part of it all? We watched as workers (maybe the manager? unsure, but she was yelling at everybody and screaming numbers to where customers were grimacing) started grabbing fries out of the pile of them with their BARE, UNWASHED HANDS and eating them in front of all of us. It was truly disgusting and unfortunate to see, especially as later we saw another worker do that. Those fries were then moved into the containers for the customers! Absolutely not okay. I work at a pizza place and seeing this behavior was so unfortunate and upsetting. We all agreed that we won't be returning to this place anymore. read more

They make everything to order so takes some time, but worth the wait. Oh and the shakes are sooo good! We were a large group with a 60+ age span and we all left happy and satisfied. I heard about Giant Burger through a friend who owns a cabin nearby. I would first like to say, I am pretty picky about burgers and Giant Burger hands down had a great burger! The meat was neither dried out nor dripping with fat, it was made perfectly in the middle! Many burger places only offer one type of cheese so it was nice to be able to choose which type of cheese I wanted. They had a great selection of foods to choose from without being overwhelming. The fries were crispy and hot, I had to slow down eating them. The shakes were also really good! The oreo shake was definitely my favorite with a perfect consistency of oreo chunks! I really enjoyed the atmosphere of Giant Burger. It felt like a locals place but also a place were many visitors could stop by right off the highway to enjoy with family. I would no doubt come back again and recommend Giant Burger to anyone heading up that way! read more

Pretty greasy, not of great quality american food really. The shakes are the old school super sugary, but good ones, available in a ton of flavors. The butterscotch brings me back to my youth. The chili/cheese fries are a huge heap of sloppy goodness. I wasn't impressed with their burgers and always feel pretty bad after I eat here because of the crap that goes into their food. I try not to go here actually. Options in the area are limited though and sometimes while passing by the devil on my shoulder steers my wheels into the parking lot for something sinful. read more

My wife and I love coming to Big Trees State Park with our kids at least once a year and for many years Giant Burger has also been a part of that tradition. We are here again this year and were surprised to see the new paint and counter and even more surprised to see only 4 other people in there on a Friday evening. After we finished our meal and after reading other reviews I can easily see why it was so empty. I don't know if ownership changed, but the quality of the food has along with new higher prices. The fries had a weird batter on them and did not taste fresh at all. The sweet potato fries were also bland. They no longer toast their buns for their burgers or put special sauce on them. They also changed their soda machine so it now lacks many choices including Fanta orange soda. Even more sad they took down their bulletin board with all the pictures of people who visit Giant Burger. Since it was not crowded we did not witness the rudeness other reviewers reported, but this experience has sadly taken Giant Burger off of our annual to do list when we come to Arnold. read more

Ate here over the weekend for the umpteenth time. I love the burgers. They remind me of when I was a kid, except they're pretty huge. I love the shredded lettuce. They make my favorite item, onion rings, as good as I've had anywhere. I'd give them another star if it was just about food. But, they do have one glaring problem. They consistently have someone working the counter, with zero people skills whatsoever. Completely new guy this time, never saw him smile once. No "thank you", nothing. Unfriendly to the point of being borderline rude. You'd think a place with Biblical scripture posted about their establishment wouldn't put out such a negative vibe. On the way home from camping deceided to stop to get a quick bite to eat. The customer service was horrible, I was hoping the food would make up for the horrible service... But that didn't happen. I ordered my burger well done it was rare, took it back and asked politely to redo my burger they did and it was just as rare as it was before... I understand it's a beloved establishment as it's been there for so long, but I have been there 2 times, and I will not be going there again. Their burgers are disgusting. I watched them smash them as they cooked them, which makes sense when you try to eat the burger and it's terribly dry and gristly and charred. The fries weren't as terrible, but nothing to call home about. Probably frozen from a bag, like the burgers. The 2nd time I went, my bf's family was visiting and we were on our way up to Bear Valley for the weekend. We stopped for a quick bite, and no one finished their burger they were so bad. We all shared the fries, and we all felt sick afterward, which I blame on the burger. Like a rock in my stomach. Never again. read more
