We ordered a bunch of food and here is what I can say about each dish: *Broccoli was ok *our white wine was served warm. Not cool. Not room temp. But like it had been sat next to an oven. *Arancini was over fried and sauce was flavorless *Lemon chicken was SO salty that it was inedible *Gnocchi sauce was so watered down that it kinda made the gnocchi flavorless as well We had originally planned on getting the tiramisu but the couple next to us had it and said "it was only ok". read more

This was such a cute place for a dinner. I was super impressed by not only how pretty everything looked, but how tasty the food was! My friends and I got: For drinks, Aereo di Carta, The Sophia Loren, Italiano Cobbler For food, Polpo alla Griglia, Eggplant special, Risotto al Manzo, Rigatoni alla Vodka, Carbonara And of course a luscious tiramisu for dessert, paired with espresso martinis- dark and creamy. The risotto was incredible, and all of the pasta was al dente. I loved the rigatoni, it was a bit sweeter than I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it that way! I would definitely want to come back for the other things- I saw the table next to us order some delicious stuff and it made me want some too. Love the green aesthetics in here, and the waiters were attentive. Great meal all around! The server really never checked on us either. I barely drank my sangria. Pictured it after 3 of us tried it. Still a full glass. It was not sweet like he had said it would be. Sorry yelpers but you all rated this one way too high. There's clearly a reason locals are not coming here. The food is mediocre at best. I had their deep fried rice ball dish that the server recommended. It was actually tasty. I love the fact that it was unique and interesting. It could have used a bit more seasoning inside the ball but overall these are nice and fun to eat. It tasted like if you were to deep fry risotto except that it's just plain rice with filling. The chef could have gone more creative here and put several versions of this on the menu. Maybe one with risotto or one with potato like a cuban style potato ball. Or maybe no carb just a meatball breaded and deep fried. The possibilities are endless. I was pretty hopeful that the next dish might be nice too. The server recommended pasta with vodka sauce. She said that was a popular dish. When it finally came I had to send it back because the pasta was undercooked and inedible. Second time it was cooked more but still not quite al dente. Also the vodka sauce touted as fabulous I wasn't all that impressed. It was very bland with no seasoning. In the end I really wanted to like this place but there are just way too many inconsistencies. You clearly have a chef that is too afraid to use seasoning and doesn't know how to cook pasta. Get. The. Gnocchi. The softest, most buttery gnocchi I've ever had in the most perfect tomato-based sauce. My friend and I both agreed that the Rigatoni Alla Vodka was "different" that the standard in that it had more tanginess and was slightly pungent, therefore not my favorite dish. However, all the pasta tastes very fresh and house made. The salad with the beets was the perfect flavor combination. I do wish the portions were 25% larger considering the cost of each dish. We'd wanted to try Gigi ever since it was the old Giacomo's and, living in the South End, finally got around to it last week, early on week night. Our verdict? Meh... there are much better Italian places in the South End. First of all, the service was very spotty. We'd ordered an app (carpaccio) first and a side of broccoli rabe as a side with our meals. The waiter even asked us if we wanted it this way and we said yes. Well, about 15 minutes later, the food runner came out with the rabe, but no carpaccio. We told her we didn't want it yet and to check with the waiter. They took it back.... Then we waited, and waited and waited... for the carpaccio. I finally flagged the waiter down and asked what was up... we were 40 minutes into the meal at that point. So he went back and about 5 minutes later the food runner came out with the carpaccio. As I feared, the whole timing was messed up now and they brought our entrees about 5 minutes after the carpaccio. Both were lukewarm. They also brought a side of broccoli rabe that was ice cold. It was apparent that they'd just taken the one they'd mistakenly brought us 25 minutes earlier and re-delivered it to our table. Total amateur hour. It seemed like there was no manager on duty and the waiter was spread way too thin - across too many tables. We sent it back and they warmed it up, but by the time it was re-delivered for a 3rd time, the other parts of our lukewarm entrees were done. All in all, very meh type of night. We won't be back. The service was attentive, the ambiance was nice, the food was delicious. The portion sizes are to the appetite while the flavors pack a large punch. My plate was the lobster fra diavolo I was blown back by the marriage of the spiced kick with the tomato sauce. My wife opted to the carbonara which she raved about the texture and cook of the pasta. We finished with an espresso martini and the tiramisu. Deadly combination anywhere but with the tiramisu being the only dessert offered it had to be good. Trust me it was! I would leave 5 stars because I loved the food, the ambience, the vibe and our servers. All was lovely until... This horrible, proverbial, sour taste was left in my mouth because were asked to vacate our table. My friend and must have been chatting awhile -- we hadn't seen or spoke in over a year! So 2 stars is all I can muster. It's a very strange and unhappy feeling being asked to vacate your table after dropping $100+ and leaving a 22% tip. This was a real first. When my partner and I went on our first date we were so engrossed in conversation we stayed at a restaurant in Cambridge for 3 hours! Did anyone glare or kindly ask us to leave? No. Did we go back -- yes!! Many times. Do I want to go back or do I recommend this place. No. Definitely not. Granted the host asked us to leave in a very nice way and invited us to stay/stand at the bar. But c'mon...it's 100% rude to ask a patron to leave their table. I get it that you are a business in the South End (where rent is exorbitant), and so you need tables to turnover to make money and pay your bills, staff, yada, yada, yada. But asking a guest to go? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see this is not a recommended best practice. I also don't like leaving bad reviews, unless it's warranted. In this case, it feels 100% justified. read more

As a preface to this review I will say I went on Valentine's Day so it was very busy which may have affected the service and food. I had heard rave reviews about this place but overall I thought it was just so so. Our service was meh, I had a reservation and they say you have the table for 90 minutes but throughout the whole meal I felt rushed and our server kept asking if we were ready to order our entree. We started with the arancini which was easily the best food we ate there. It was delicious 10/10. The complimentary bread and oil were also great. The entrees were where things were not great. I was planning on getting the risotto but then our server heavily recommended the tagliatelle. I asked him what was in the sauce and he only said "the sauce is really good". I trusted him and got it but it's basically just spicy red sauce, nothing special. I'm also not the biggest fan of red sauce so I wish when I asked about the sauce he had told me it was a red sauce. My boyfriend got the chicken parm which was good but nothing notable, could get the same dish from somewhere else for a cheaper price. Overall the entrees were about a 5/10. I would return because I think we maybe just ordered the wrong thing? But I'd also probably just prefer to go to the North end for Italian food. But the interior design and ambiance in the restaurant were nice. read more

You are kidding me. This was some of the best Italian iv had since moving back to the east coast. I recently went with some friends and this place did not disappoint. Our waiter was attentive, the place itself is small with mood lighting but very clean with old style Italian vibes made modern. We got the chicken parm and penne ala vodka which although is simple and basic is hard to elevate. They 100% did. The pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly al dente and the chicken was as thin and crispy as could be while still being moist. I will say the sauce on the side pasta for the chicken parm wasn't my favorite but it just had a different taste than the sauce on the parm itself. Right when we walked in, a woman's bag knocked over a champagne glass of the table next to us. You literally need to be a size 0 to fit in between the tables. What a great little restaurant find! Giving it a 4.5 stars for ambiance, drink selection, and very reasonably priced food that didn't disappoint. And rounding up ;) We were searching for a restaurant in the Back Bay that would have something for my picky, vegetarian kid and found this restaurant on yelp with good reviews. Reservations on Resy did require a credit card, but there were plenty of times available so we booked about an hour before we wanted to eat. Ambiance was great - beautiful, intimate space with a cool bar and impressive Amaro selection. Menu had a ton of options. We ordered the Rissotto with short ribs, and Branzino (and kid got spaghetti with marinara). Portions were appropriate. Prices were very reasonable. Every dish under $30 and drinks/wine were very reasonable as well. The Branzino was excellent. It was served with grilled summer squash and a romesco sauce. Rissotto was good - lots of nutmeg (I think it was nutmeg...) we shared plates so it might have been too much if that was the only thing I ate. But husband loved it. Service was efficient. read more

My family dined here on our last night of a two week holiday in Boston and it did not disappoint! The restaurant has a nice rustic Italian feel and a great atmosphere to it and all the waiters were warm, friendly and very helpful. The food was superb- delicious Italian done perfectly. We shared a beef tartare and caprese salad to start which were both amazing- lovely fresh, good quality ingredients. For mains we each had a pasta dish. Would highly recommend the lasagne as it was perfection! Thin sheets of fresh pasta (some spinach) and delicious beef and pork mince with a white sauce and some tomatoes. Desserts were also another highlight- the semifreddo was to die for! Such a lovely restaurant with beautiful real Italian food- cannot wait to dine here again soon! read more
