Oh yum yum. I love me a good fish taco, and Gil Tacos does not disappoint. Fish was crisp and flavorful; the sauce made it perfect. My son's torta (with pork, chicken and cheese) was yummy. Steak taco and chorizo taco were good, but the fish taco was the star. Order some chips for scooping up all the yummy bits that fall out. Can't beat the prices. This place is amazing. The food is phenomenal. We had some delicious homemade tamales, a number 4 tortas (Campchana) that was delicious as well, and a Pambazos that was sooo good. Everyone we asked who was there said they come back every day. I would if I lived close by. Line was long but moved fast and so much food (our fault) but still so cheap. I just finished my tacos. I ordered 4 but could only eat 3. The tacos come with a lot of meat for the size of the tacos. The tortillas were yellow corn, delicious and soft. I ordered a tripas, lengua and asada tacos. Very good flavor. I'm from California and I would say I'm a Taco Conisour. These are best tacos I've eaten east of Texas so far. There is no actual seating except for a little bar along the windows. But it makes it hard to sit down because there is a line. You might want to call your order for pick up. read more

These are excellent tacos. They have pickled jalapenos, pickled onions with habaneros and mango habanero salsa on the counter you can help yourself to with little sandwich baggies. On two separate visits I had cabeza, chorizo, lenqua, pastor and asada tacos. All very good. My only complaint, and a star downgrade is that for 2.25 each they are very small tacos. Mind you three tacos were enough to satisfy my hunger. Very friendly and quick service I will be back again. read more

Relatively new only have a small strip countertop to eat at inside but they are expanding into a dining room which looks like it will probably be ready in a couple weeks. Great tacos done right. I had the Assad and carnitas -- both great. Nicely roasted meat, quality corn tortillas, fresh cilantro, and fresh onion. The spicy sauce was mild but flavorful. Be warned that there are no restrooms, but they do have hand sanitizer. read more

This place is so damn good I'm about to become a weekly regular. Ive had some great Mexican food living in Southern California and Gil's is probably as good as it gets in the Midwest! Happy to have found them. Slowly but surely will make my way across the menu, their tacos alone will keep me coming back though! This is where yelp should shine! Finding these off the beaten path type gems and helping others to find the as well. I tried this place for the first time. Tacos were excellent! I have three... Cabeza, pastor and steak and chorizo. The Cabeza was my favorite and probably one of the best tacos I have eaten followed by the pastor a close second. I also had elotes which is corn on the cob spread with a touch of mayo and rolled/ Coated with Mexican cojia cheese (like a mild parmigian cheese) and sprinkled with chili powder. I would have given 5 stars but the corn was cold and over cooked. May be frozen, not fresh or if fresh it had been boiled to shit and then refrigerated. It tastes good but it should not be cold and over done. They are in corn country so in the summer they should have no excuse for not using fresh and cooking it right. read more

I really wanted to like this place, even with the delivery mistake (not necessarily their fault; although they didn't cancel the order like I called and requested, once I saw the est. delivery time) of it coming a day late - yes, a DAY late. Anyway, the guacamole was plain in flavor (I also prefer wholly avocado guac, sans cream), the meat was dry. The tacos came with onions that I requested not to have and sauce that I didn't know would be there. The fish taco was good, but probably because the fish was fried. We wanted some tacos for Cinco de Mayo/ Taco Tuesday so we tried Gil Tacos for the 1st time. It did not disappoint! My husband and I agree that they may be the best tacos we ever had. This place has fantastic tacos, hence the name "Gil's Tacos". I have been a regular customer here for the past 2 years. I have recommend many friends and colleges here and they thanked me. I saw a couple less than positive reviews of the restaurant and I think the reason is obvious. If you go to a restaurant called "Gil's Tacos" their best tasting food won't be american style burritos. If you are visiting for your first time I recommend the Chorizo tacos with cilantro onion and cheese. I would put those up against any Mexican style tacos in the city. If you eat kosher or halal I would recommend the chicken tacos with the same toppings, or ask the chief for a recommendation that suits your diet. read more

These are some of the best tacos in the city. The al pastor taco is a real treat, amazingly seasoned the flavor is something I crave at least once a week. The steak tacos are also delicious. Recently I just tried the al pastor and chicken quesadillas, they were delicious! There's always fast service every time, I order over the phone and never have to wait when I get there. They recently reopened their seated area, I've never sat over there but there is an average amount of space. I highly recommend trying this place out! read more
