Off the hook, 5 star for sure! Tacos are not particularly classy or complex, but they do a great job of making them and have great prices. Small but awesome, the best tacos I have had in a while. I tried one of each, pollo, asada and al pastor. All the meats were tender and popping with flavor. A simple menu, but good stuff! They are very close to the airport, and if you are driving through on i-70 or i-65, they are easy to get to and worth a trip off the road. My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch during the week and were pleased with our experience. The shop has parking on three sides, so there were plenty of spaces. We entered from the west entrance which is where you will find the order counter and where folks who are getting their orders "to go" wait for their food. The order area isn't much wider than a hallway, so it is a little hard to read the overhead menu, but fortunately, they have printed menus on the counter. We decided to get our order for dining in, so my wife ordered a chicken burrito. I ordered a pair of Asada (beef) tacos and an Elote. The tacos were the small 5" shells made of corn and doubled so that the contents stayed inside. Note that they don't come with any sauces, so you will have to add some from the dispenser bottles at the pick-up counter. The Elote was a large ear of corn covered with a mix of mayo, chili powder and Cotija cheese. It was steaming hot when served so it took a little wait to be able to enjoy it. However, it tasted really good and I would gladly recommend it. Note that I didn't see it listed on the menu, but asked and they had it. My wife thought her burrito was fine. It was a huge rolled serving that was halved by the kitchen. She liked it, but as served, could have benefited from a sauce. She ended up taking half of it home. The dining area is where the south and east parking lot customers enter, so we got a bit of chill each time someone came in that way. Was told by a co-worker to stop here if you want authentic Mexican food. It was full of flavor, colors and smells. Got a couple street tacos and was full. They have Harritos sodas too. We happen to eat at Gil's today for lunch. It's located just outside the Park Fletcher area on the Westside of Indianapolis. Honestly, one could easily drive by it. The food was great-easy, authentic no fuss tacos. Fresh quacamole. My colleagues had burritos which were a good portion, and really good. Locally the National Guard Armory is close and there were some soldiers there---meaning it's a good place to eat. Soldiers know the good places!! It's a small dining area, with an order desk and then sit. It may be a challenge to accommodate a large group unannounced at this location. But great for local date nite, or small group 4-6. It is also fair to say that having a table may not be available given small dining area. So keep that in mind. There isn't a wow factor with the aesthetics because it is about the food and timely service. Definitely worth checking out. read more

I really found this place to be a true gem that is out of the way so I had no idea it was even there till we were searching Yelp to find food late evening on a weekend. We paid in cash so we didn't get charged a fee. Nothing was too pricey. The tacos were very flavorful. I liked how everything was simple, but had good flavors. We went to Gill Tacos for the second time ever. Probably the best tacos I have had. I got the steak (carne asada) tacos with cilantro and onions and asked for cheese as well. I like flour tortillas so I ordered flour. Soooo good!! My wife got the taco salad. She said it tasted good but felt like nachos since it was served on chips instead of a fried bowl. We live in northern Indiana but can't wait to get back south to Indy and have tacos there again. Finally tried this place after numerous recommendations. It was ok, nothing to write home about. I ordered tacos Al pastor y lengua. Most of the Taco Restaurants that I visit are either mediocre, or don't have much flavor and authenticity. Then one day, my Brother and I, made a visit to this Gil Tacos location in Indianapolis, Indiana. We wanted to explore and try a restaurant that wasn't local. I had ordered the Chicken Quesadilla, and he had ordered four of the Cabeza (Beef Head) Tacos. These Tacos were extremely flavorful, fresh, colorful, had an incredible aroma, and were very delicious. I was very nervous to specifically try Beef Head, because I don't branch out from common foods often. However, I was very grateful that I did. I have never consumed a Taco such as these before. It was definitely a game-changer in my foodie World. My Brother travels nationally as well, and has had a huge variety of Tacos throughout his trips. He was a huge fan of both this location overall, and definitely this menu item. Not to mention, the Employees were outstanding. I ordered the Cuban Torta because, honestly, so many people said it was good but I didn't believe them because there's so much on it. Don't be fooled by its location on the corner of the road. This is some of the best Mexican food we've had since living in Indy. Sadly we only found it as it's time for us to move. But you bet the last couple of days we had we HAD to stop in for more. The menu is small which isn't a problem at all. IMO it's best to stick to those signature dishes you're really good at and this place does exactly that. The ambiance in this place is very family friendly. It gives you that homey feel and you know once you've stepped foot inside that you're at the right spot. Now for the best part .........the food: I ordered their tacos dorado which according to them is a rolled hard taco or as I know it a "taquito or flauta". It comes with avocado, crema (Mexican sour cream), cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and my absolute FAV frijoles (their refried beans) which by the way let me tell you is AMAZINGLY tasty and hot; and let's not forget the rice. One thing I love about this place is the portions are amazing for the price that they have it set at. I've been to places before where it seems like you're eating beans with rice and not the other way around. This place doesn't skimp on anything. The perfect ratio of rice and beans and 5 flautas. And let's not forget to top it all off with one or all of their homemade salsas it's that good. Chefs kiss for sure. My sisters had their asada tacos and their mike fries which is basically loaded fries with your choice of meat. Everything looked and smelled amazing. I work very close by this place and have passed by several times. It always seems very busy so I had never tried it but today I decided to give it a shot and I am so glad I did. I am originally from Southern California, so I know a few things about authentic Mexican food. Gil Tacos was such a pleasant surprise and was really outstanding! I tried a few tacos including Asada, Chorizo and Al Pastor. The Al Pastor was hands down the best I have had outside of California. They have a few varieties of salsa available and they were all good but the creamy one had a wonderful kick and was straight up delicious. A hole in the wall that is worth trying!! These tacos are hands down some of the most authentic tacos in Indiana! I've been to multiple sorts of Mexico and these are the iconic tasting tacos. I have to recommend the Gils Special which is a mix of their meats, cilantro, and onions.. on a corn tortilla! These are addicting and I would have to always say get three or more. They also have Guacamole and WOW! This is fresh made in house, and tastes soooo good! The lime and onion taste in it is amazing. The next is the Drink... you have to try their Homemade Pineapple Drink, and you won't be disappointed. It's perfectly sweet and perfectly refreshing! Being I'm not terrible my close to this place I ordered tacos via Uber eats and was basically prepared for my food to be not warm. Quite the opposite!
