Went here for our anniversary a few weeks ago. The food was ok. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. The cocktails were delicious. Our bartender/waiter was someone that oversees the bars for the restaurant group (sorry I can't remember your name or job title), super friendly guy. The other wait staff seemed super frazzled, but no one was rude. The atmosphere is why we will come back. It's such a cozy, unique place. It felt special without being pretentious. Not excited at all about this place. It's just, "meh" at best. I know this sounds odd, but the drinks were overly strong and lacked a "good" flavor. The deviled eggs left much to be desired. The chips and duck wings were great. I was pretty annoyed when I paid cash and the waitress didn't give me the correct change. She shorted me $.81, which is not a big deal, but I expect to get all of my change back when paying. These men clearly need someone to organize them! We had reservations. When I arrived I asked for my party stating we had reservations. This was after waiting for them to be Unbusy enough to help me. He could not find the reservation. I showed him the confirmation, still couldn't find it. The place was absolute chaos with people going every which way, and people waiting clear up the stairs. They sat me at a table finally. It wasn't until a few minutes later when I got up to say hello to a friend I noticed my party around the corner! ‍ the food was very good. I got one glass of ice tea, sadly a refill was offered but alas never arrived. We asked for the Bill three times and finally got up and stood by the registrar. Inconsistent, good service, clean, nice ambience. The food can be hit and miss, temperature issues which was addressed with wait staff and it was taken care of. The food is innovative however, quality and finish can depend on how busy they are and pride in finished dishes. The last time we were guests there and they apologized to me. That should never happen anytime. I probably will not try again too many other better places. read more

Stopped by when passing through Spokane. I'll be honest, the name and the menu item names are what hooked me (who doesn't want to try "Magical Mac" or a "Sparkle Burger" ha ha). Super fun in an underground setting with a very pretty German(???) tavern/unicorn crossover theme. Had three kids and they accommodated us during dinner rush on a Sunday evening. The waiter was very kind, attentive, and spent a minute or two asking us about our trip. The food was great, The majority of our party ordered some variation of Max & Cheese and it was really good, very gourmet, lots of flavorful. Food slow to come out but it's all amazingly fresh and to be expected. The Guilded Unicorn has some really delicious flavors. It's family style so you order a bunch of different plates and they show up when they're ready. This really allows everyone to get a proper taste of each dish. We ordered the Tequila Sours with egg white which were tart, complex and refreshing. Then came the deviled eggs which were smokey with a touch of sweetness, so good. Next was Mac and Cheese, rich with a nice tanginess to it. On came the handmade Guinness braised root vegetable pan pie with a light flaky pastry crust and well flavored vegetables. We also ordered the Mini Fried Chicken dinner which with a robust spicy salty flavor and some magical little buttery potatoes. We also really enjoyed the scrumptious mini lemon pie. The mini sugar pie was the bomb (sounds weird but it rocked with a little ginger taste or something). All of these flavors for around $100 with a tip for 3 people. Be ready to hang out for a while and enjoy the experience. Our server could have been a little more excited about the food...but we didn't care once the plates started showing up. Went in for happy hour yesterday and was met with the RUDEST female bartender. Refused to offer one of the items on the printed menu at the price and when I questioned her she agreed to honor it but she was definitely not happy about it. The two entrees were mediocre at best while boasting a hefty price tag for what they were. Nice ambiance and restaurant. I had the trout with potatoes and no where on the menu did it mention having beacon. I asked the server if it had beacon and he said yes. He also acknowledged that the menu doesn't mention all the ingredients. First off let me say that the ambiance of the place is the only reason my review is two stars and not zero. The below street level restaurant takes you to another place... Like a castle in Europe. This used to be my favorite place to dine or just have drinks at the intimate bar when it was Catacombs. Thus the reason I was so excited to return when I heard it reopened under a new name. The menu has changed, the staff has changed, the chef has changed... All for the worst. When you name your stroganoff "rice-y-roni stroganoff" you better make a mean dish that doesnt taste like it was out of a box. Fail. It tasted worse. Rice-o-roni would've been an upgrade. I had three pieces of fat with hardly any meat at all and one piece of some meat with an equal amount of fat. I guess I shouldn't have expected meat, after all it wasn't called 'beef' stroganoff. The Guinness pie looked and tasted like it came out of a Hostess bakery package. Absolutely pre made, because when asked if we could add meat to it the server said it wasn't possible because the pies came that way. The chips were ok (how do you screw up chips though) but the sauce looked and tasted like mayonnaise. The deviled eggs were alright. Way over flavored. (I realize that is a personal opinion so I wont dwell on the eggs). The service was lacking. Our waitress was very impersonable and when she saw that after just a few bites of each plate we cancelled our dessert and asked for a check, she got visibly upset at us! She never asked what was wrong with it or why we decided not to eat it and not stay for dessert. She simply gave us a dirty look, turned around and went to get our check. Even the people seated across from us were doing the same thing. We laughed a little with them about how down hill this iconic location has gone and about going to D'lish Hamburgers to fill up! A soon to be Spokane fail. Too bad. Good Location. Good ambiance. Decent service. I am not sure what they are going for with this place. The menu is like meals but is served randomly like tapas or appetizers without sides. It seems they will not discipline the kitchen to time service. It was weird some of our group got their meals 10 minutes before the rest. Unlike apps or tapas the meals are not really shareable (for example a burger). On to meal quality and presentation. After our first meals started to trickle in I started to think what would Gordon Ramsay do? I am sure he would ask "What the F is this?" The tater casserole is a disaster only found at bad potlucks for people who like cream of mushroom soup. The burger was a grey meat pile with a piece of lettuce, slice of cheese and a decent bun stabbed with a pickle garnish. The meat pies looked like hot pockets, however they won the group taste test. The chicken shows up black, tastes ok, and comes with 3 sweet pickles and hash browns. Drinks meh at best. The next day the messenger chats were plagued with who got sick (most).
