Chili burger is probably my least favorite things on the menu. One of the worst hamburgers I've had in humboldt. I know I went to a seafood restaurant for a burger, but if you put it on the menu, it should at least have some flavor. Breakfast is good here. Waitstaff is eh/okay. This place disappointed me a little because it has such great reviews. The location is amazing, and the staff seem very nice. However, I ordered an omelette with shrimp (I don't remember exactly what it was called) and it was very dry. The portion sizes are nice though, and they do make great milkshakes. read more

Gill's on the Bay is the equivalent of Pier 23 in SF. I don't go to either place for the food. However, go for breakfast on a sunny day, order a crab or shrimp omelet or Benedict and you will be happy! Especially if you choose to wash it down with a Mamosa. Kid friendly, incredible view of the bay, gorgeous garden and pier, friendly and attentive staff. MANDATORY Humboldt experience for a SUNNY morning. Lunch is OK, but still great if it's a sunny day. Great diner/DS style seafood joint in a great location. Local seafood is hard to find even on the coast but you can get it here. If you are heading up/down the coast I highly recommend Hang town fry if you're in the mood for an oyster omelet. Sole or calamari burger also great. Very charming place, next to the sea, friendly personal and delicious food. That grilled crab sandwich with a little bit of melted cheese is fantastic. Wow! Fresh crab eggs benedict was amazing. Eggs were just right. Hollandaise sauce was superb. Crab was sweet and mild. Will have to go back for more. Service was great as well. And the view is spectacular. Just wish it was located more conveniently and had better seating arrangement. read more

I get up to this neck of the woods about once a year and I always try and stop in for breaky at Gill's. The crab in the crab omelet (one of my favourites) is always fresh, the omelet fluffy and the green onions snappy. I had the pancakes instead of the hash browns as a side today and they were hearty yet light. The staff is very attentive, the coffee is good and strong, and I've always had a good experience here. The patio is also very nice and the views of the surrounding seaside are quite nice. read more

Came here on a slightly overcast morning. The restaurant is off by itself with a view of the ocean. The patio is surrounded by a rather large flower garden, which I found to be a nice touch. We sat inside with a window seat looking over the patio and ocean. The service was top notch, and the bloody mary's were good. Our waitress was very considerate and suggested we place our order sooner rather than later, that way our food would not get stuck behind a large group about to order. Had the crab omelette (seasonal), and boy was it good. I was a little concerned about seafood in an omelette, but it was fresh and delicious. Would come back any time! read more

We stopped here while driving through town. The food was delicious and there is a very pretty view. The fish and chips were excellent. Fish was firm and flaky and the breading was crunchy and a great flavor. The fries were nicely seasoned. Some in our party also had the crab sandwich and the shrimp sandwich which they also enjoyed. The seafood chowder was also good though not to my liking as I don't like mushrooms. The service was fast and fairly friendly. However, the staff was not super attentive and the waitress never checked on us again once our food was delivered. This is a big pet peeve for me. read more

We went for lunch. The service was prompt and attentive, and the fish and chips were delicious. We're told that the crab sandwiches are where it's at, but we were in the mood for fried food, and this spot definitely delivers in that regard. I simply can't live without the Sandy Beach sandwich. I love their fries (highly salted and seasoned, yum) and when I can force myself to try something else on the menu (and order a Sandy Beach to go haha) I'm never disappointed. Clam cutlet burger, sole burger, crab sandwich, all great. But the Sandy Beach you won't find anywhere else. Sounds weird to have a sandwich of shrimp, cheese,bacon, and green onion, but it's amazing. And if you happen to get it to go or want to take it home, it reheats perfectly and will make anyone in your house jealous. Great staff that has been there a while.. .they remember their customers and the kitchen is amazingly fast. Busy Sundays the staff gets overwhelmed but the kitchen never disappoints. Sitting outside or inside, amazing view and great walk on the beach afterwards! Prices are more than fair especially for the gorgeous view. Wish I could eat there all the time. Stopped there for breakfast while visiting, we love to have a good breakfast. It was not the fastest meal we've had, but I didn't feel like we were waiting long at all and everything was clearly made just to order. I had the crab benedict-- fresh crab a given since you can buy it nearby, but the hollandaise sauce was perfection, the yolk ran, and the balance overall just scrumptious. We were here visiting family and they took us here before we left, food was amazing! We came for breakfast, the batter that they use for their waffles is amazing! The biscuits and gravy were also very fresh and super fluffy. I was a little upset that our "$3.99" Mimosas were $6.99 on our bill but was too happy with the food to say anything. We have been here many times. As all reviewers note, the restaurant is cute, the patio dining provides a beautiful view and the food is top notch. On this visit, we came on a packed Sunday morning with a party of 5 and asked to sit on the patio. I was impressed by how all of the staff, including the owner, were all hustling to get people seated and fed. We did get a table within about 20 minutes. We knew that we might have to wait a long time for our food, so we put in our orders when our drink order was taken. We still had to wait a little over an hour for our food, but we noticed others who had been seated before us waiting longer. Thankfully, we enjoyed the view and our company, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes once they arrived. I ordered the gluten free waffle, a side of potatoes and eggs. Delicious!! This was the first time I noticed anything gluten free on the breakfast menu, so I think this is new. I want to express sincere thanks to the chef and owners for adding gluten free pancakes, french toast and waffles to the breakfast menu. Such a wonderful treat for me!!! read more

If I could have given it a "0" star, then I would but solely based on the waitress that served us. After ordering a ham/cheese sandwich and two clam chowder bread bowls, my husband and I waited 45+ minutes for our food, and we did wait PATIENTLY. It was not until we noticed that multiple tables were seated and ordered considerably after us were receiving their food that I inquired as to how much longer our food would be. That's when our ray of sunshine turned in to a very snide and condescending waitress who chose to ignore us and then brought our check to the table without saying a word. To demonstrate an example of her condescending attitude, when she brought the table beside us their food, she thanked them considerably for their patience even though they were seated and ordered 30 minutes AFTER us but received their food 4 minutes after us. I have been a waitress and would never treat a customer in such a manner. Otherwise, food is highly recommended and ambience is awesome! read more
