This is my fav ice cream spot in vb. It's located at the farmers market at dam neck and Princess Anne in the roundabout. Parking is simple as there are many spaces and the shop stays open pretty late, especially on Friday nights. My fav used to be the cookies and cream, but then I tried the peanut butter and I'm hooked. It's tastes like tiger butter fudge, if you know what that is. Service is always pleasant. The store is small, but cute. You can also buy milk and cheese as well. Oh and you can get milkshakes too. And you can get it with regular milk or chocolate milk! The last time I went, which was a few days ago, I got the strawberry ice cream blended into a milkshake with chocolate milk. The girl recommended it and said it tasted like a chocolate covered strawberry. She was right and it was delicious. Homemade ice cream! Come and get your homemade ice cream! Everything tasted so good! We ordered the strawberry, coconut and Carmel espresso ice cream!!! And they were all good choices! I especially loved the coconut bits in that particular flavored ice cream! They are allowing inside dining with plenty of room! But the farmers market does have outdoor tables available for the public too. They have hand wipes available for the messy kids or adults lol. Plenty of parking available. I've stopped in to Gilly's a couple of times in the past year - but have usually walked out due to the sheer number of people waiting in line. Yesterday was the PERFECT day to stop in - right around 3:30 pm for an afternoon treat with our little one. We almost had 2nd thoughts about coming to the market. The small carnival is running right now - hoards of people were there, most with no masks and certainly not many observing masking protocols. But we found the market itself to be quiet and parked on the back side. There were only a couple of patrons inside Gilly's. The 2 young ladies working both donned masks correctly, were kind and welcoming to the family in front of us and to my family. They were patient while we browsed the menu and offered tastes of any of the flavors if we were interested. They have a variety of ice creams, but were out of sorbet today which slightly bummed me out. I hope they have some when we return, but omigoodness...the ice cream! I'm glad we each ordered the Little Gilly - they shoved at least 2 scoops into that little cup alone. It was impressive! For 2 Little Gilly's, it was about $6.50 and was more than enough for the 3 of us to share. I chose the Black Forest, which is vanilla base with chocolate cake and maraschino cherries while hubby ordered Peanut Butter Chip which was peanut butter ice cream with mini chocolate chips. Both were absolutely delicious - super creamy and packed with flavor! We were happy to enjoy our ice cream in the center of the market, where several picnic tables were available. My sister and I were staring at the list when a little girl and her mom were leaving. This little girl was so impressed with the ice cream that as she was walking out she said " I just had the chocolate caramel and I HIGHLY recommend getting that." I was so surprised getting a recommendation from such a little girl and with such an enthusiastic endorsement THAT is EXACTLY what I got and yes it was AMAZING!!!!!!! During a recent Yelp conversation amongst friends, we were discussing favorite spots in the Southside to go for ice cream considering we're in the hot summer. One of my friends brought up Gilly's which is located at a farmers market. Since I've been venturing out to local ice cream joints for the past month (and earning a Yelp badge for that adventure), why not check out a hidden gem on a sunny day??!! Once my girlfriend and I pulled in, I was immediately won over. The farmers market is surrounded with everything you want locally: ice cream, fruits, vegetables and a butchers place among them. Due to the weather being kind of hot, we just decided to grab ice cream and head back to the car. I picked two scoops of S'mores ice cream, which consists of graham crackers, chocolate chips and marshmallows mixed in with vanilla ice cream on a waffle bowl (don't laugh, but this is my very first time having a waffle bowl) and my girlfriend picked two scoops of Coconut ice cream in a waffle cone (sadly, not pictured, but she enjoyed it). A winner indeed!! With all the ingredients mixed together, it truly reminded you of when you're at a campfire eating s'mores, except you don't have the taste of burnt marshmallows right from the pit.....LOL!! This ice cream was thick and bursting with flavor. And including actual marshmallow pieces.....say no more!! I can say it was a nice choice having this in a waffle bowl which reduced the chances of getting your clothes messy. Since I didn't eat anything all morning, this dessert was gone in 15 minutes. Overall, a very good treat. This will be a repeat. And hopefully, once the weather cools down, my girlfriend and I may walk around and check out the market stores. read more

This shop is at the farmers market in Virginia Beach. The red velvet cheesecake ice cream takes me back when I was a kid at birthday parties. Absolutely love their ice cream. Staff (one in particular) is as dumb as a doorknob. She was the manager on staff that weekend. She charged my husband and I for the couple in front of us' ice cream ( pretty sure they paid for it too as they left awhile before us) . My husband was questioning the raise in price to me as we were walking out the door. We turn around having not left the store and the girl refused to refund the money...either she didn't know how or she was just a moron. My husband was trying to remind her it was just us two and said he put money in the tip jar, so she grabbed the tip jar and held it to her chest like we were going to steal it. Strangest experience. She gave me owners email and he had the money waiting for me and I made a special trip back to get it. Miss the amazing Pecan ice cream, but wouldn't go back - the girl was so strange. read more

If your looking for the freshest of the fresh dairy products at the beach then Gilly's Creamery should be your first stop. It may not be the easiest business to access, but without a doubt will be worth the trip to this tiny store. This is only my second time here and I was impressed on both occasions. Gilly's is located in the Farmers Market off of Dam Neck and Princess Anne across from the new Sentara Hospital. Once inside the market the store is in the center. The circular area of the businesses are quaint with wood decking around them. Parking is not plentiful, but has never been an issue for me. There is also a gazebo and some green space for planned activities. I love the simple decor of the interior. Light color tile floors, tables and red chairs, with a few colorful pieces of furniture. The refrigeration area contains bottled gallons of milk, cheese, yogurt and beverages. There is also a freezer for ice-cream sandwiches and pints to go. The full service counter serves cones, shakes and waffles and has some unusual flavors that you will not always find. Such as a dark chocolate Salted Carmel. The staff is more than happy to provide you with samples too. I decided on a large Strawberry shakes that is pricey at $5+, but I believe in line with other higher end ice-cream places such as Brusters. The woman assisting me was friendly and helpful the entire visit. The shake was delicious and extremely filling. Upon talking with the staff I learned that the Oberweiss products are from Illinois. The milk is approximately four days off of cow. I cannot imagine this does not make this the freshest product in our area. The owner said the chocolate milk is rich and creamy like a milkshake. There is a deposit of $2.50 for the glass bottle which is refunded upon return. I can't wait to bring the whole family to try Gilly's Creamery out in the near future. Anyone wanting to try fresh dairy products off the beaten path should make it a priority to head on over and check them out. read more

Gilly's is an odd local nook hidden in the Virginia Beach Farmer's Market. If you look them up online you might notice their Mission is conveyed in Latin. It translates to English to be something along the lines of "embrace a life of pleasure, not the mistaken system's way of pain; expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of truth." Interesting. We arrived at about 5:30 pm on Saturday, and there was plenty of parking available. A group of four left, ice cream in hand, as we walked in. There was a party of four at the counters ahead of us. A chalkboard explained the ice cream flavors - 9 in total. There were also milkshakes and some other things available. I got 2 scoops in a waffle cone - they were out of waffle bowls - brownie batter and caramel. My fiancé got 2 scoops in a bowl - brownie batter and cookies and cream. We left a tip and were back outside in 5 minutes, taking the ice cream to the park across the street to walk the dog. I enjoyed both my flavors, but Michele did not like the brownie batter. So I traded her the rest of my caramel for her brownie batter. The caramel was tasty, but a little plain. The brownie batter tasted almost identical to it's namesake, but for some reason had colored sprinkles in it. Maybe for texture? All in all it was a decent little place. The setting - in the farmers market behind a (permanent?) carnival was strange, though. But if that's your thing then it's a great combination! A few more flavors would have been nice. And the website claims homemade waffle cones, but I am skeptical about that, too. It was a good value for the price and we got right in and out. read more

They have some fresh milk in glasses where you put the $2 deposit on the glass but get it back every time you bring it back in I think... not 100% sure how that works bc I've never done it. We decided to come to Gillys because it's been awhile since we last visited and their ice cream is pretty good. It's a local ice cream shop located in the Virginia Beach Farmers Market shopping center down the street from Landstown Commons. It has a country/small town vibe to it. They have everything from ice cream to sorbets to malts and milkshakes and even hot fudge sundaes! I got the small cookies and cream malt. My Fiance got some sort of blueberry graham cracker with honey ice cream on a homemade waffle cone. My malt was good but possibly a tad too sweet and not thick enough to my liking but still enjoyable. I am glad I got a smaller size because anything bigger would have been way too much. I liked the ice cream a lot better! The flavor was on point and the little pieces of graham crackers really made the ice cream. I would definitely get this on my next visit. The only downside about this place is the lack of customer service. No one seems to be excited to be working here and the energy is very lack luster. This place really is "WooHoo! As good as it gets!". Gilly's Creamery rests in the Virginia Beach's Farmers Market at the intersection of Damneck & Princessanne road. This hidden gem has been my go to ice cream joint for a couple years now, and I wish I would have made that choice years prior during my first visit. They offer a variety of flavors from Watermelon and Lemon-Basil to your classics like Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. The ice cream is rich, creamy, and THICK. No ice crystals in this stuff folks; smooth as silk. I wish I could eat more than 1 scoop at a time but the stuff is so rich it makes it hard! This stuff is as decadent as homemade ice cream. They also make great milkshakes, malts, and other cream based items. This place beats the pants off of your nationwide chains. Coldstone? DQ? Confetti? I won't be going to these places unless Gilly's is Closed (6pm most days). Even then, I might just pick up a pint or two so I can just nibble on that at home. Oh, I didn't mention that they sell their signature flavors and one-off flavors in pints? Whoops. Not to mention it is half the price of their competitors. Seriously folks, this place is great. We got to this place and we're not sure we were in the right spot because it looked like a Farmer's market. I got the salted caramel ice cream and it was good. My 5 year old son got the chocolate ice cream and enjoyed it. My 9 year old daughter got the strawberry ice cream with sprinkles and enjoyed it. My wife and her mom got a special ice cream of the day with pineapple and orange we believe and they both enjoyed it. Luckily there was lots of outdoor seating and it was covered so there was shade. We were hoping for some sherbet options but there were none. The nice thing when you got a cone was a paper drip catcher.
