We very much enjoyed our dinner here last night! Very pleasant atmosphere (not at all noisy, which is important to me), classy but not stuffy. All of the wait-staff were charming and attentive. I had the Sushi Dinner (9 pieces of sushi and a spicy crunch tuna roll) and my girlfriend had the Grilled Crusted Sesame Salmon. Both were very good -- not off-the-charts amazing, but very solid. Prices seemed about right for the neighborhood. No parking lot but pretty easy to find cheap metered parking right on the block. All in all, a great experience. read more

The other day I went to Ginban to try it out for lunch. It was completely empty and we could sit where ever we wanted. I ordered the California roll and the King Lobster Signature roll. The waiter kindly took the order and he was off. The food came out quick and the food looked quality. The California roll was perfect. The King Lobster roll ... not so much. After the first bite i noticed it didn't seem anything like the description. I stopped eating and told my waiter who kindly told me he would fix this and get me a new one. My waiter returns and then tells me he is going to just give me all the missing ingredients on the side instead of having the chef make a new roll. (I guess after talking to the chef, the chef didnt want to make me what i ordered originally). I was confused and pretty agitated at the response. For one, this roll costs $15 and it wasnt even made correctly. Secondly, the place was EMPTY. He wasnt being rushed to make my order at all. In the end, instead of arguing and making a scene i just settled for ingredients on the side. I have to note, they did sense my agitation at what they did to me. When i asked for the check, they gave me a complementary dessert. The gesture was nice but i would've just preferred what I ordered in the first place. At the end if the day, the meal was fine but what killed it was the poor customer service. I understand it might be expensive to replace someones roll free of charge, but if they chef made it right the first time we would avoid the whole problem. Everyone makes mistakes, but making the customer deal with it is not right. Next time I'm in the area , ill just go to one of the other sushi places near by so i actually get what I order. read more

Finally tried Ginban after all these years and I was very pleased with the quality of the food, service and atmosphere. There are quite a few Asian fusion restaurants on the street and I will say this one may be my new favorite. There is an excellent selection of maki rolls and sushi, along with some other choices ranging from Thai to Chinese. We decided to go with some maki rolls and thought they were all tasty. We selected the Samorai roll, spicy shrimp with mango sauce and the maki roll combo D. The shrimp tempura roll was very tasty and probably my favorite. The salad that comes with the combo could be a little bigger. I think I counted 4 leafs of lettuce, 1 tomato slice and 1 cucumber slice. read more

DICLAIMER: Sorry that I didn't post any pix. I usually do but since we waited SO long for the food to arrive, by the time it did finally come to the table, I was too hungry to think clearly enough and remember to take the pix. I mean, the food looked good; it just didn't taste good. My husband, son and I came here to use a Groupon voucher that I purchased. We were seated immediately, considering we had no reservation and the place seemed to be packed. I didn't like the fact that every time the table next to us was visited by their server, I had more ass in my face than I would have cared for. You would think that they would be considerate of the close proximity of the tables to one another. I understand that it was pretty busy but I do feel as though we waited an obscene amount of time to be asked for our order. When we were finally able to give our order, we ended up waiting even longer for our drinks and food. We weren't served water until after our meals came. I ordered the Thai Spring Roll which was good and a list of sushi including, a Salmon Skin Hand Roll, California King Roll and Spider Roll. They offer the option of having brown rice in the maki instead of white which is great because that's how I order my maki anyways. My husband had the Beef Negimaki and my son had the Four Seasons Seafood entree. My son enjoyed his entree but as for myself and my husband, neither of us liked our meals very much. The Salmon Skin Hand Roll was okay but the rest of my order fell flat. I asked for a Spider Roll but I am not sure what exactly they gave me. It didn't look or taste like what I know a Spider Roll to be. I was expecting tempura fried soft shell crab but it looked more like octopus. Let's just say, I didn't finish it and didn't want to wait another hour for them to remake it. The Negimaki was bland and had it not been for the sauce it would have completely sucked. Now on to the 'waiting-for-the-check' game. So, we ask for our bill and then we see the server was asked by a number of tables for their bills also, after we asked for ours. We also see that the server gives out, about four bills to other tables and cleaning tables in between before he even thinks to give us our bill. When he finally remembers to give us our bill, he tosses it down on the table. Now, as I previously mentioned, we had a Groupon voucher so I looked over the bill and pulled up the voucher on my phone. I don't like the idea of staff taking my phone away to get the voucher number so I carry my own pen and write the numbers down on the receipt so that the server can cross-check it at the table and I don't have to actually hand over my phone to anyone. It took so long for the guy to come back to the table which is completely absurd considering we were seated right next to the bar that he had to go to all throughout the evening. It took so long for him to come back that I finally got fed up and asked some other server to get his attention. Needless to say, he is lucky he got any tip at all. Now, here's the clincher! As we are walking towards our car, the "Captain" or so he says, follows us out, holding what looked like our bill, to ask us if there was a problem with our service. My husband plainly said that the service was not good and the server was extremely inattentive. I am assuming he confronted us because we left such a lousy tip. I won't be going back. Both Asian Temptation and Haiku have better food and they're both located right down the block. read more

Now why do I love this place, its clean, appealing to the eye, the wait staff is prompt and polite just for starters and the food.... FABU!!! So my food was fine and the portion was decent. The dish was supposed to be spicy and was not at all - in fact, it was extremely sweet. I posted a photo of my order when it arrived, there were two sizeable holes punctured in the top of the container. I have no idea why and it caused sauce to spill all over. The garnishing and presentation is beautiful! It definitely made my experience better here in this modern asian fusion restaurant. I had Ken as a waitor, and he is very kind. Some of the best sushi in the area. We always get the Gin Ban sushi for two, which is great every time. Sushi sizes are always large relative to other restaurants. The sushi is fresh, too. One point of comparison is that in many restaurants that serve sushi, the fish is cold from the fridges which gives it a sterile taste. This sushi isn't like that and simply tastes fresh and of high quality. Desserts we have tried are very good. Green tea ice cream is awesome. Drinks are reasonably priced. Service is generally pretty good. When it's a busy night the service can be lacking, but the staff is aware and always accommodating. Decent vibe, typical Westchester county crowd. My husband and I used to come here when dating and before our daughter was born but since she was born it seemed like a hike from where we lived. It was our absolute favorite sushi place. Fast forward four years later and during the pandemic who else would I trust with sushi? We ordered tonight and it was just as amazing as I remembered. The sushi is fantastically fresh, and the fish is abundant in the rolls! My only complaint is that it's hard to find a specialty roll without avocado. The Rock Shrimp is tasty, but the sauce that came on the side with it (take-out) was weird (almost like a spicy ketchup). I suggest using Trader Joe's Sweet Chili sauce on it if you have some at home- made it a 5 start app! The Orange Chicken which my friend got seemed a little burnt tasting to me, but no complaints from them. Also the veg fried rice was actually the old school kind of fried rice (white rice made brown with soy etc), and was tasty. Stick to the Sushi; it may be on the expensive side, but worth it. If you eat there, go with other sushi lovers to share lot of different items. The other stuff seems hit and miss, but they give you a lot for the money. Enjoy! read more
