Went here for takeout for the first time in the 29 years I have been living in the area. I ordered human chicken with broccoli and roast pork fried rice. The roast pork fried rice decent but the human chicken with broccoli was okay. The texture of the chicken was too soft and didn't take much effort to chew. That was scary. Anyhoo, I like for my meat to have texture and bite back when I bite it and this wasn't the case so I definitely won't be ordering that again if I decide to go back. read more

Got take out for my family of 9 to celebrate my birthday. We usually go out to my favorite Chinese restaurant which has fallen from my list. We have tried different Asian Fusion places that don't reach my expectations. I asked my family to get take out from Hunan of Larchmont even though it is so many towns away. It is Chinese and Japanese cuisine which satisfies everyone. Egg rolls, spring rolls, Wonton Soup, Empress Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Orange Chicken, and a ton of Sushi. The food was great. Been coming here for years. I get the same things and every single time it's always consistent. NEVER had a bad meal here. In all the years I've been coming I think once there were others dining in, so they must be killing it with takeout orders. This is the only Chinese restaurant I've ever been too that I feel is a "cleaner" meal. Deep fried is deep fried I get it, but for some reason all the food tasted fresher and cleaner than any other. -Steamed Dumplings: 5/5 -Sesame Chicken: 5/5 -Boneless Ribs: 5/5 The noodles they serve while you wait are the best I've ever gotten, and their tea is very good. Food arrived on time. The delivery person was courteous a quick and follow the instructions to the letter, and the food was fresh and delicious. This was my first time ordering from this restaurant, and I will be adding them to the neighborhood, favorite for delivery and fresh food I ordered three rolls which included the mango role which was delicious. The mango was fresh and right and I also ordered the wonton soup. The wontons were light and fresh and the broth delicious. I've ordered also the pad Thai which I haven't eaten yet, but if what I've had thus far is any indication then, I cannot wait! Sorry I was super hungry & forgot to take pics! Came here for lunch today with my husband and what a treat it was. We ordered two lunch sets: the General Tso's chicken and the 四季豆 pronounced "si ji dou" and translates to "four seasons beans". The latter is one of those dishes that is particularly hard to get right. How to describe it? I don't think I can do it justice, but it's not soggy nor oily. I think this place does this dish best in all of Westchester. They're also really generous with the meat here - most other places just give you a little bit of minced pork. I also like their hot and sour soup which is full of Chinese vinegary goodness. The General Tso's chicken was also very good and is quite different from what you get at a Chinese takeaway. There's not many formal sit down Chinese restaurants any more, so this place is a nice change up from your standard takeout. The environment is quiet and spacious. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is consistently good and the quality is better than regular takeout. Portions are large and prices are reasonable. Lot of options on the menu as well. Great for a family dinner! read more

Getting sushi for the first time here. Nice spot for a before/after movie meal. The prices are kinda up there but it's conveniently located right next to the Larchmont Playhouse. A good dinner but an inept waitress. At the end of the meal I gave her my debit card and also a $20.00 bill, requesting that she "break" the bill for me. When she returned, there was only one $10.00 bill inside the check folder instead of the two I was expecting. When I asked where the other $10 was, she took it out of her pocket in an abashed manner. I told her, "Well, that's what I was going to give you anyway, so just keep it." To which she replied, "Only ten?" Why, after all, should I be taken aback? Such a disappointment, I should have trusted the 3.5 star rating. The service was absolutely terrible, to the point we felt as if the server was personally offended by our eating there. Our meals were, frankly, gross. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, sauce on the side, and orange chicken. Upon slamming the plates on the table (as she had done with every dish that evening, she stated "she put sauce on it". The soggy dish was tasteless and the rice was, no-doubt minute-made. Of the three Chinese food options in Larchmont, we frequent Hunan Larchmont the most. They have tons of vegetarian and vegan options, which for me is huge in the vast steak-loving sea that is the NY Tri-state area. Hunan Larchmont has a mix & match menu with many vegetable, tofu and sauce options. Normally the tern "mix & match" printed on a menu would cause be to back away quickly, but this option combined with a hearty bowl of rice and maybe a scallion pancake (or two) should keep any hungry vegetarian or vegan feeling stuffed for hours. The bill is always reasonable and the staff is friendly and attentive. The decor leaves a little to be desired, but then again... don't all Chinese food restaurants? The only thing I can't feel good about here is the fish tank in the lobby with giant Koi and other various fresh water fish. Seriously, some of these fish are about as long as a baby's body and the tank is way too small and over-crowded. Not cool. But good food. read more

I visited Hunan Larchmont for the first time in over a decade on a recent short trip to the area, remembering a variety of tasty dishes I had shared with my family back then, and I was hoping that they had kept a good thing going. My, how those fish have grown! When I saw only two other tables occupied, I wondered if I'd made the right decision, but it was a Monday night, after all, and I soon was quite happy I decided to stay. I had what I can fairly say was the best meal at a Chinese restaurant that I've had in many years. I started with the Corn Egg Drop Soup - it was piping hot, tasty, and promptly delivered, and although it didn't seem to have any corn kernels in it, it had the nice sweet notes that corn lends to the soup. I can never resist a few dashes of the traditional powdered white pepper in egg drop soup - overall a very pleasant appetizer. I decided to order what would presumably be their "signature dish," the namesake, so to speak - Hunan Beef. I asked my waitress to make sure the chef knew I actually did want it actually spicy, as most Chinese restaurants I go to around my home don't seem to expect that a "faan-gwai-lou" will enjoy sinus-clearing spiciness, so I've gotten in that habit. A beautifully-presented, piping hot plate arrived at my table, and it was a delight to behold. Check out the photo and I'm sure you'll agree. The smell was enticing, as the last sizzles of the wok tapered off to release the mouth-watering aromas. As I served myself a helping over white rice, the sauce was a perfect consistency to cling to the cubes of beef and crisp vegetables and to lend its flavor to the rice. The beef - oh my. I had been thinking earlier in the evening that a nice medium steak would be good for dinner, and I was glad I had passed up a steak house in favor of Hunan Larchmont. The extremely generous portion of just-over-bite-size cubes of flawless beef in this dish were tender, succulent, and perfectly seared to a mouth-watering medium- to medium-well. No knife needed - the side of my fork was enough to divide the cubes to provide twice as many delicious forkfuls. And the spicing was expertly executed. Some inelegant Chinese cooks will, if you make a point of asking for it extra spicy, will just turn up the single solitary "spiciness" dial at the expense of the rest of the flavors in the dish. Not so with this chef! The enjoyable, tongue-sizzling, brow-moistening, cheek-flushing spiciness worked together with, not against, the dish's panoply of other flavor notes in a symphony of deliciousness. The crisp snow peas and sweet bell peppers, the savory scallions, the tender mushrooms, the crunchy flavor-soaked water chestnuts, and of course, the mouthwatering sear and tender delight of the beef itself - all of these elements worked in harmony in the spicy brown sauce and made every single bite an enjoyable experience. My only small regret was that I couldn't stand to save any of it for later, and left the restaurant somewhat uncomfortably stuffed. I do need to lose some weight... but in the face of these flavors, I thought "to hell with it, I'll eat less tomorrow." The dish would have served two easily, or three after appetizers (and a risk of a fight over the last spoonful), but dining alone, I took my time and diligently cleared my plate, savoring every last bite, gathering up the last grains of rice that had soaked up the sauce. I had brought a book and my new iPhone for want of a dinner companion, but this delicious dish captivated my full attention. This meal, coupled with the prompt, attentive, conscientious service I received (while easy enough on a quiet Monday night in a nearly-empty restaurant, it's surprising how many restaurants can't even manage that much...), and the spotlessly-clean dining room, are why Hunan Larchmont earned my five stars. I intend to make sure it will NOT be another decade until my next visit. Enjoy! read more

Hunan has been a fixture at this location for decades and is easily the best Chinese food around. When i'm back in town it's where friends and I always meet up. Service is good with good prices and generous portions and they are fairly quick about it.
