I had a better experience here. I met a girlfriend here for lunch. I was lucky enough to find a parking space. I got sat right away while waiting for my friend. I decided with the crunchy roll and the hot and sour soup. The soup I could definitely do without next time. It was luke warm and filled with mushrooms. Sort of greasy and suspicious. I ended up throwing it away. Sesame chicken is one of my measuring sticks when ordering Chinese food. The chicken pieces were grisly and chewy with soggy breading. Their sushi is priced well and they give you a yellow to-go menu that has coupons that you can use for your next visit. They almost always have a Living Social, Groupon, or Yelp deal. The best thing about Ginbu is that they deliver for a $1.00 fee plus tip. Atmosphere: The service inside the restaurant can be slow at times, but this doesn't take away from the quality and taste of their food. We almost always order to-go or delivery because they are accurate and you can use the coupons on these two options. Order: We have had almost everything on the menu. Our sushi favorites are: Cherry Blossom Roll (This is to die for), Spicy Tuna, Avocado Roll, Fire Island Roll. Horrible Service!!! I ordered broccoli stir-fired with a spring roll and a coke. I took maybe two bites of my food and noticed a roach on my spring roll. Called the waitress to my table to notify her and she had the worst attitude. She gave me a nasty look and asked did I want to take the broccoli and rice home. Came here a few months ago after purchasing the $15 for $30 of sushi deal on Groupon... The space was pretty small, dimly lit with a really small "bar" area. I came by myself and was initially the only person there but a few more parties came in after me. My server was okay- not bad, but not great either. She got the job done. I didn't realize how much sushi I'd be able to order with the Groupon deal, but I got 5 different rolls (2 hand rolls and 3 regular rolls) which was A LOT to finish by myself, but I pushed through. I got the Alaska roll, Volcano roll, Rainbow roll, Spicy yellowtail hand roll and Spicy salmon hand roll. All of the rolls were DELICIOUS. One of them was actually served with a warm/cooked sauce, which I wasn't expecting but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I made the mistake of eating the hand rolls last. I'll never make that mistake again! Trying to bite/chew through the seaweed was IMPOSSIBLE, but that was no one's fault but my own. Note to self: always eat hand rolls first... Had dinner at Ginbu 401 last night. First time we have eaten in the restaurant but have had take out before. I think the sushi is pretty good and for the price - one of the best values around us for sushi. My son and I split a few rolls - eel roll, spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, and rock and roll roll. First off, waitress was excellent. Very good service. Went above and beyond for a special request. We ordered a star roll, crunchy roll and California roll. All rolls were excellent and had great flavor. We also ordered seaweed salad. I'm picky about this. I will not eat the neon green seaweed. Asked the waitress if theirs was neon, she went a step further and brought a sample for me. It was excellent. The edamame was lightly salted and hot. The wonton and miso soup were both excellent. We come here for a slice of sushi and a slice of 'American Chinese' food. Driving around with a mad sushi craving is never a good thing, but with the Yelp deal, this place will hit the spot. The rolls aren't madly inventive or the ambience isn't the next Charlotte hot spot either. But. Last time, their version of General Tso's was surprisingly good, but should be expectedly fresh during a slower weeknight. Sorry to report that Ginbu 401 was a dud tonight. I have been in the past and while not spectacular the place has been ok on other visits. Tonight however - mediocre would be welcome. We ordered two dishes - one of which was to be Kung Pao - and according to the menu - a spicy dish. There was nothing Kung Pao about this dish. The brown sauce was thin and so bland I could not believe it. And forget about finding any peanuts in this dish - another key ingredient. The only thing decent was the brown rice but why would I pay $9.00 for a small bowl of brown rice?!?! The second dish was supposed to be mild and although it had more flavor it too failed miserably. Runny brown sauce. No flavor. Boring. The best was when we were hit with a "non cash adjustment" for using a credit card to pay for our sad little meal. ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE WAS THIS POSTED AND OUR WAITER NEVER SAID ANYTHING WHEN WE HANDED OVER THE CREDIT CARD. Hey - if the food had been amazing or the service decent maybe I could stretch the situation and agree to the charge. But to add this fee on top of a terrible meal? Not how I would do business. Take the hit Ginbu or post this important information. At least educate your staff on what this fee is. UPDATE: the owner commented on my review blaming the poor experience on the fact that sushi doesn't travel/deliver well, and that is ridiculous because I actually order sushi 2-3 times a WEEK and never have a problem. This was not sushi not traveling well, this was poor quality and tasteless sushi that traveled just fine. I ordered delivery from here and it was bad. I ordered a lot for one person, and there wasn't a single thing that was exciting. The dumplings were fine, the fried chicken was eh, the sashimi was BLAND and NOT fresh, the crab sticks nigiri was bland, and finally... the rolls. The rolls were GROSS. Great Chinese food! Currently during covid I got take out. They also have dine in and delivery available. Everyone was in masks and following guidelines. I got the orange chicken- it had oranges in it!! Also recommend the general tsaos chicken. Price is also very reasonable. Serving sizes are good. Our food was very fresh and ready on time. Do yourself a favor: skip the sushi here. I can't speak a for the entree dishes but the three sushi roles I ordered were horrid. The rice tasted like it was days old, the tempura was soggy, the shrimp was scarce... basically my worst nightmare in a sushi place. I physically rejected the spicy salmon roll the minute I tasted it- it tasted too funky for me to be comfortable. I was in the mood for sushi last Saturday night, so we decided to give Ginbu a try since we had a coupon. The outside and inside aren't anything that you'd "wow" over. They've definitely tried to create an Asian atmosphere, but it's not classy or even "fun" or lively. My partner thought the place used to be a bagel joint. Our server was fantastic and attentive. Sure, it was a slow night, but we never had to wait for anything. While the regular menu looked pretty extensive, the sushi menu was pretty short. We ordered several sushi rolls and all were good-sized and VERY delicious. The only bad thing was that they were priced the same as a fancier sushi place, so I feel that I didn't get the same value. The others offer atmosphere, so you don't mind paying the price. Ginbu, unfortunately, doesn't offer any sort of truly "wowing" atmosphere, so I feel they should compensate by lowering their prices on the sushi rolls if they want repeat business. When it costs to pay with a credit card at any establishment, I'm wary of that place because I don't care how you spin out- that's the cost of doing business. You should never pass that expense knowingly onto your customers. Build it into the pricing structure. Don't let people know up front. It appears so freaking cheap. Just don't do it. My visit was pretty straight forward as listed above, so this review will not take long. I didn't even look at the other parts of the menu, I just wanted sushi. I'm still looking for the best Chinese restaurant in town. Ginbu's menu looked good, with solid variety, and the lunch prices weren't bad. I placed an order by phone and picked it up about 10-15 minutes later. The food was hot, ready and the check-out was quick and easy. The egg roll was ok. Nothing fantastic - pretty much your standard Chinese take-out fare, though a bit skimpy on the filling. I went for my old standby of cashew chicken. The portion was large, the balance of veggies to chicken was good. Flavor was good... not exciting, but it worked well for the meal. Good mix of veggies - zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, water chesnuts. The chicken was a bit soft and mushy - in chunks as opposed to slices or thin pieces. It's a big enough portion and enough flavor that I'd go back again and try some of the other dishes. I'm not a "fan" where I'd recommend it right away, but it's good enough that I'll try it again. read more
